Keyboard that lets you charge... - Galaxy Note 10.1 Accessories

Looking for a good keyboard/cover for my Note 10.1 that lets me use the docking connector (charge/OTG while typing) but so far nearly everyone one I've seen has the note rest flush against the bottom of the case so I cant access the port. Is there one on the market that keeps the note raised up enough to use the connector without turning the note upside-down (which makes the wake/volume buttons and the headphone jack inaccessible)

Did you consider the Samsung keyboard dock. It works great for me!

You do know that you can position it so the port is on the top?

Does anyone know if the Samsung Keyboard Dock will fit if the device has the Samsung Book Cover on it?

Guess I messed up, sorry.

yeah but they stopped making them due the fact that they weren't as popular. i purchased one off of ebay and i think it's amazing

I am just using the Universal Dock - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007UOXV3W with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse as a compromise. I have the Poetic cover - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008YZ8VL8 which can stay on with the stand in use.

That's what I do, too. Also, I have the Samsung Book Cover and the Note fits in the dock with it on.
I only wished I'd've bought more than one of these when I had the chance: Motorola Wireless Keyboard and Trackpad. It's perfect for traveling (I keep one in a keepcase that I carry the note around in). It's thin, has a cover that doubles as a stand, integrated trackpoint mouse and charges via MicroUSB. Picked up one on sale for $40 and haven't seen it that cheap since.

I had a galaxy tab 8.9 and still have the original Samsung keyboard dock. If you take out the black plastic insert (it pops out along the top edge), the Note10.1 fits in relatively well with the bookcase cover still on. The extra thickness of the cover actually works pretty well to support the tab given that the custom insert isn't in there.
Not perfect, but you can still pick up keyboard docks for the 8.9 or 7 relatively cheaply on Amazon. ($30 less than perfect vs. a $100 import from Asia)

This is basically what I'm looking at doing, except my folding case lifts the charging port off the table if I turn it facing out, watching some normal BT keyboards/mice on eBay (average cost $20-$30)

If that had an actual trackpad on it, I might bite, but I absolutely *hate* the "dots" (one of my laptops actually had it's dot missing the cover so it was unuseable - I never noticed I jsut used the trackpad)

I might try this, I've seen the Tab docks cheep, didn't know if they used the same pinout for the connector or not. (and now wondering if it's somehow using the USB OTG and a usb keyboard with a pass-through for power... might be able to take it apart and mod in a micro-hub connection if their room...)

Heh. Touchpads and Trackpoints are apparently polarizing; I'm quite the opposite (I can't stand touchpads and tend to disable them unless I don't have an external mouse )

Picked one up used off of Amazon for $16. With the book cover one, it is well supported. Android specific keys are great. Thanks for the suggestion!

Quick question - Does the blue light on the keyboard stay on when your Note is docked and charging? I thought mine did initially but now it doesn't consistently stay on. It also seems to charge slower (but that could just be my imagination).

I'm not sure - I never charge while it's in the dock. The blue light seems to come on intermittently for me - not sure why. At first I thought it was strictly for caps lock, but it is not consistent.

Looking for a keyboard for my Tab. Not sure which is best...

I've been looking at the Samsung Keyboard dock, Logitech Bluetooth keyboard at BestBuy, and the Motorola Xoom keyboard.
I'm still not sure which is a better buy, and which one will work best for me.
I was using the Android on screen keyboard, but it no longer vibrates after installing the TouchWiz update.

did you check that haptic feedback is enabled? You have to check the configuration of whatever keyboard you're using (it's under settings--language and input--configure input methods--[select the keyboard you're using, i suspect it's the default samsung keyboard].

It's selected. I've tried numerous times of turning it on and off. Seems to be some type of bug within TouchWiz that keeps it from working. It works in a few other keyboards I have installed, but the Android keyboard will no longer vibrate.

Loitech keyboard! I love it battery life seems great, had it for 3 weeks. Its less than the Samsung one and uses bt so it will work with other devices. Comes with a nice protective case / stand.
The Samsung Bluetooth Keyboard Case is now available on their site for the 10.1. You can ask to be notified when available. They said it will be available in the next couple of weeks. If you google, you will see some CNET reviews that give you better pictures. It is supposedly as thin as the notebook case. I just hope it does not have the same flaws as the notebook case. I am returning mine tomorrow. The case seems to allow for easy depression of the power button. I am constantly turning the tablet on/off. I will pick it up, lift the flap, and find the device is booting back up. Not very helpful at all!
The samsung bluetooth keyboard/case looks the best so far. Of course its not out yet. Personally I want a keyboard that has capabilities of charging my tab, kinda like the asus keyboard. Anyway way to extend my battery life!!
I may have missed out on all the Touchpad craziness, but I did pick up a closeout Touchpad bluetooth keyboard from Office Depot for $25+tax using a Staples coupon from here. They had it priced at $69.99 in-store, but their website has it at $29.99 on clearance so just ask for a price adjustment.
It's a really nice feeling chiclet keyboard, about the size of the Apple Bluetooth, and uses AA vs. AAA so I expect good battery life. Some of the function keys don't seem to work (brightness, power, not sure about media) but the top left works as ESC and the Control keys do what they're supposed to, and it works great with Connectbot so I'm happy.

I looked at the logitech and samsung keyboards.
I chose the logitech.
I didn't want to have to remove my tab from its case to use a keyboard. Thats one of the reasons i ditched the asus.
I like the keyboard shortcuts on the logitech, and i like that i can use it with my home theater pc.
The samsung seems too expensive for a non wireless keyboard imo.
Besides, its just a rehash of the old tab keyboard.
are you guys talking about the zagg keyboard or the Logitech one with the little plastic stand. I'm waiting on the zagg one up for preorder on Logitech. Com

The zagg case just arrived today, got two shipped to NZ (one for my gf) and i have to say im very impressed with it.
They claim several weeks battery life of normal use(not sure how that compares to alternatives). though it charges through micro usb along with most new phones.
its very light, but also feels solid at the same time, the keys feel similar to the asus transformer dock but they are definitely more responsive.
although they state on their website that it has poor compatibility with the 10.1 in portrait mode i think it works quite well, stands fine and doesn't feel like falling over at all.
it has raised rubber feet on top of the metal so you can lie your tablet down ontop of dock without worrying about damaging it.
it has all the shortcuts you need, including full music control, android function key. escape takes you to home screen while the back key is placed where right alt is on a normal keyboard.
all in all, very nice dock of solid build that weighs less then the tablet for $69.99
Edit: its also bluetooth, so no need to take tab out of its case.
Anyone know how to fix the problem of the onscreen keyboard popping up with any of them? It gets annoying.

Galaxy Note Docking Station

Hey,
has anybody already tried out the docking station?
Is it possible to fit the Note including a flip case into the station?
Does the station have an audio/video out or is it only for charging?

Sorry... docking station ? More details please?.
It has a speaker out port, but sadly is not compatible with the flip case; too much extra bulk around the side and back. Very nice if you don't use the flip case, though, the Note slips easily into the dock, and it looks elegant.

I wouldn't say it fits fine with the flip case; because of the extra bulk on the side, some pressure is required to jam it in, and because of the extra bulk on the back, the Note has to be tilted forward to mate with the USB connector, and you can't just drop it into the dock. You can make it work, but it's really not comfortable, and I'd be worried about damaging the connector. If they showed someone dropping it into the dock on the video, it would not look quite such a good combination.
That Dock would be just perfect if it came with an external battery fitted within it to be used as a stand while away from a power source.
Might still get one though.

The official dock does not seem to allow use of an MHL adaptor on the back of the dock. Power still goes to the Note but no HDMI output. Tried several times, even tried internal/external speakers settings in "Dock" but no difference - still no video.
Can anyone else confirm?
PS. The dock does not come with a power supply, you just use you existing PSU/lead.

Have you actually experienced this, or are you speculating? I don't believe the Samsung flip case adds any extra bulk at the back, as it replaces the original back cover.

I have the cover and dock. I watched the video and though the Note did fit in the dock with the cover and ordered both, but it doesn't.
One the left side the back cover is thicker to allow room for the leather flap. You can still use the dock by titling the phone forward at the top but the the only thing supporting the phone is the dock connector.
Once I get a screen protector I'll remove the cover as I'd like to use the dock and it will be easier to use with my car dock.
The case does make holding the phone easier and it feels more secure in your hand.

Yes, I have. The back is more substantial than the rather flimsy original battery cover, making e.g., the camera more recessed, and the extra width of the flap doesn't help the device slide down, either.
So is the dock useless if you have the flip cover-case on? Or can you use the dock, although the phone doesn´t fit "perfectly"? I´m considering getting both accessories, but am a bit confused.

Samsung Galaxy Note Accessories–Now available to order
Friday, November 11, 2011
If you are one of the owners of the new Samsung Galaxy Note, you can now order some accessories for delivery by the end of the month.
Available for order now are the desktop dock, car kit, MHL/HDMI adapter and stylus holder kit.
Samsung Galaxy Note MHL/HDMI Adaptor:

Samsung Galaxy Note Vehicle Dock: http://www.clove.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-note-official-vehicle-dock
Samsung Galaxy Note Desktop Dock:

I wouldn't use them together. It's a really tight fit because of the flip on the left, so doesn't slide down as easily as the naked Note, and needs to be jammed in. Because of the thicker battery cover, when the microUSB connector is mated, the Note is tilted forward, putting stress on the connector.

The old universal dock EDD-D100 fits. It has an audio jack, but no HDMI builtin. But you can link the HDMI-Adapter EPL-3PHP between the power supply and the dock to add HDMI output to the dock.
I haven't tested the audio jack, but HDMI output works.
(As a new user, I'm not allowed to post links here yet, but you can easily google the items with their product number.)
Here's a few picks of both the regular desktop dock and the keyboard dock. The keyboard dock required some sanding to get the note to fit but the desktop dock just required trimming around the edges. The tools I used were a jigsaw and some sandpaper.

I find it disappointing that Samsung doesn't create a dock that has HDMI out so you don't have a cluster of cables/adapters. USB ports would be nice too.

Seems I saw this keyboard/dock for the Note 10.1 on the european site. I have the one for the Tab10.1 and am still deciding whether to mod it or not.
I also want a replacement for my samsung folio/keyboard.....no mod will make that fit right
In the meantime, bought a folio/keyboard off Amazon by iLuv. Unlike on the iLuv site, the seller on amazon lied and said it was for the note as well as tab 10.1 and tab 2 10.1. It works but really doesn't fit right and I will probably return it.
Early adopter hell, eh?

Did you take the black part off to cut it? There doesn't seem to be an easy way to take this thing apart unless there are screws hidden under the friction pads (which I'd like to avoid removing). Can you specify where and how much you had to sand to get it to fit? I trimmed the edges quite a bit with my Proxxon (like a Dremmel) but it doesn't seem to want to go down all of the way and I'm not sure what's keeping it from connecting.

I was just going to edit my post with that...let's see what kind of damage I can do now =)
Update: It seems that the "sanding" (or carving with a Proxxon) needs to be done at the bottom of the tray. I kind of regret carving off a few layers from the back support.
The additional work need for this mod beyond the giving it more horizontal space only makes me dislike those litigious jerks at apple even less. The squared off edges have to be a result of that for this and the tab 2.
Finally got around to modding mine. used a dremel. Didn't just chop the ends off, as I was trying to preserve the look. but having to dig that groove out was a real pain and lead to various other scuffs. Would love to have a fresh go at it after learning what it took, to do it more cosmetically pleasing, but with the note in it, it still looks pretty good
The tab desktop dock works great bought one at best buy no modifications were needed for the Note 10.1

I just cut the edges of the guide(that black thing) from the P7500 keyboard dock but that connector doesn't fully go inside the tablet, any ideas?
Does the HDMI from the Tab media docks work with the Note?

Here's a few picks of both the regular desktop dock and the keyboard dock. The keyboard dock required some sanding to get the note to fit but the desktop dock just required trimming around the edges. The tools I used were a jigsaw and some sandpaper.

did same thing works great.

Which stands/cases allow the device to charge while in use?

Hello, I noticed that the charging cable is connected to the bottom of the device (below the home button). If I want to charge the device while watching video with the device standing, what can I do? Obviously the official samsung bookcase cannot do this.

Something like this would work.
This is what I use.... I love it. Used it for years with my XOOM, and now the Samsung. I like that I can use it with a case on it. http://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-A...&qid=1399018140&sr=1-38&keywords=tablet+stand

Official book cover works perfectly
When using the official book cover in standing position your galaxy note is actually upside down, so the micro usb is on top. Just tested it

Really? 'Cause I've been looking at reviews of it on YouTube and that's not the case (no pun intended).
I have two of these and you can actually charge while sitting on the stand. You have to configure it to lean the Note back some but it works.

Apparently this one works w/ the Note 10.1 2014 Edition, according to 1 review on Amazon - EE-D100TNWEGUJ.

While it was probably not designed for it, and it is not quite as stable as the standard upright position, you can configure the cover for the inclined typing position and stand the tablet on its head. I was using this position before I figured out the correct position. I still use it for charging.
Personally, I can't justify buying a stand--I have too much crap already! So are there any decent case/stand hybrids that do the trick? The whole layout of the Note seems pretty... haphazard. I've got the cheap Poetic case, but to charge it up while using the folding-stand it has to be positioned at the very edge of the table/desk/surface... which makes the flimsy stand even flimsier. (I seriously want to punch whoever it was that decided thin folding stands were okay to use with 10" tablets).
Just got the one I mentioned, today. Confirmed it charges while the Note 10.1 2014 is docked.
I purchased the Samsung EE-D100TNWEGUJ and it charges the Note and has a audio jack on the back too. Works great.

As far as cases go - this one you can charge when using. Love the case - Poetic Slimline Case - bought it on amazon for $13 several months ago and now it is $20.
If you're willing to shell out the money, the Thought Out Stabile stand is amazing. I have the Stabile Pro and it's the best stand I've ever used/seen

Accessory Recommendations

I'm looking for a few things for my new P600, but not really turning anything up. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
1. Is there a dock charger for this device? I thought I saw one that might work, but curious to know what others might be using.
2. What usb cord can I use instead of the included one that is way too short. Will any work or does it need to be "special"?
3. Alternate pens? I have tiny hands but I can't stop from clicking that button while writing.
1. don't know
2. any cord will work
3. no , which button?
3. Turn your Note AT 180°
Ok, so here is the charger I'm considering: Samsung Desktop Dock (EE-D100TNWEGUJ); found at Amazon.com; There seem to be mixed reviews as to whether it works or not. Has anyone here tried it with success? I've found other 3rd party ones, but again nothing to determine absolutely if they work.
Next, I found one of my longer USB cords and it did work with the charger. So, that was helpful.
As for the stylus - I'm not talking about the button on the tablet itself, I keep accidentally pressing the little button on the stylus which then opens the s-pen wheel, or causes other issues. I've read that other wacom pens might work, but those posts were 2 years old. I'm not sure what's available now.
1.There are many and various kind of micro usb charing and sync on Amazon and Ebay, but it's annoying when you want to pick the tablet up,so I recommend you to just buy any simple tablet stand and turn your tablet 180°. In this way, you're also able to turn you tablet vertically to open some documents aside you while charging.
2.I'm using Moshi's micro usb cable wih 3 metres long which I don't have to be worried about where the plug is anymore. However, due to length of the cable and high power consuming of the tablet(because of 2K screen and other), if I play some high graphic games like asphalt8, it won't charge but just slow down the percentage.
I tried this cable with other smartphone, there is no problem with charging speed as 1m metre.
I bought it from iStudio(an authorized Apple retailler in my country) at around 25$

3.I'm using Wacom Bamboo Smart which is compatible with any Galaxy Note. Unfortunately , no eraser tip.
Compare to original Spen, there is nothing change much but almost real writing feel because of size of the pen.
I'm prefered this one more than the original spen.

Thanks for the pen recommendation, that looks terrific and the price seems reasonable.
As for charging... right now I do put the note upside down so I can plug the charger on top, but the annoying thing to me is that the buttons are now moved to the top. I wish they were software buttons and not hardware. This is beginning to be a problem with me as I am always having to reorient myself every time I rotate the tablet. Not to mention not being able to access the volume/power buttons underneath. I thought a dock could perhaps keep the tablet in the mode that it's intended.
Hey I'm not sure if you've made your decisions, but I would like to add my $0.02.
1. The Samsung Desktop Dock is what I'm using right now to charge my tablet overnight. The microUSB port is placed on a flexible platform that slightly bends back and forward to aid in tablet placement, but I would be careful just in case. Also the dock might not fit most cases unless its a ultraslim tpu case. But if you have the official book cover, it fits without any problems.
2. I think most cords would work.
3. The Wacom Bamboo pen, if I'm not wrong, was mentioned often in threads for S-Pen alternatives. The earlier models (V1?) had a considerable amount of offset while the second version was more improved. Personally, I have stuck an extra S-Pen in a Pilot G-2 pen and it works awesomely, lol.

Can you do a step by step of your g2 mod? That sounds amazing. I tried the full sized Samsung pen, and it was alright.pilot g2s are awesome though and I never lose them, unlike that Samsung pe

This is the mod I used for the G-2 pen.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49496454&postcount=125
It's a seemingly simple mod, but I recall that shoving the s-pen in the G-2 pen took a considerable amount of force, so be careful of that.
I also didn't do the second part to access the s-pen button because the rubber part is a PITA to remove lol.

If you are still interested in a full-size pen, I got model form this site:

It works very well, including the back that works as an eraser. Try find in your area!
