UCAMA4 sammobile - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Just thought I would share. UCAMA4 is available for download over at sammobile. It is a big file and you have to go through Hotfile.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SGH-I317&pcode=ATT#firmware

Have you installed this update?

I did, just for something to do though, as it not so much an update as it is just UCALJ with the last two OTA's that AT&T had pushed out.

Is there a new modem?

No. It is the UCAMA4 radio.

Well kinda depends what he's running. It's newer than the UCALJ2 and K7.

True. But at about a month old "I" would not call it new.

Thanks for the replies.

I downloaded this as a 'just in case" backup in case I needed to return to stock - but, I am curious how you installed it. When I downloaded it - I expected it to be a tar file - but it doesn't appear to be one - did you use Odin to install? Or some other method? Can you explain
Thanks

After you unzip it you will find a .tar file that has a long name. I cannot remember the name but I know it is a long one and it is indeed a .tar file. And yes, use Odin. After I backed up all the files I wanted I did a factory reset, put it in download mode, and ran it through Odin.

1. Put the phone into Download Mode (Volume Down + Power when turning it on).
2. Load the .tar file into the "PDA" section of ODIN on your PC.
3. Click Flash

It's mainly a security patch and modem yes?
I have it running already via the OTA, but I think I'll pull it for storage..
Thank you OP.....g

You are welcome. That is pretty much what it is good for.

Unzip and put file into PDA in ODIN and flash away! If you need ODIN, it is attached below.
*WARNING* DO NOT CHECK RE-PARTITION OR ANYTHING ELSE. ONLY AUTO-REBOOT AND F. RESET TIMER SHOULD BE CHECKED.
If you need more information about this file and what it is/what to do with it, read the stickies at the top of this forum to learn more about ODIN and what it is used for. This file is provided mostly for people who like me who prefer to odin a stock rom and tweak it themselves. It will also prove INVALUABLE from here on out for when you need to unroot your phone (send into t-mobile/samsung, just want it un-rooted).
IF YOU WANT ROOT:
I also attached the latest superuser and CWM recovery for those who want to root.
Put the recovery.tar in the pda slot and flash for CWM recovery.
Then install the attached superuser inside CWM recovery to have full root!
FYI: It's a known issue that superuser usually does not "stick" on the first try. This is with ANY ROM for our phones. Just keep flashing it (usually 2 to 3 times)until it says installation complete.
THIS WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR DOWNLOAD/FLASH COUNTER (+)

Can't wait for your link, can I use CWM to flash? Is the firmware already rooted or
factory fresh one?
Wow you guys...just wow...

Will be factory fresh. Will be like any other stock rom, not rooted. Root it via odin like we have always done for all of our roms. I think it's best to just leave completely intact so we always have an option to get our phones back to 100% factory. The CW flashable zips and rooted custom roms are on their way.

An odin file is just that: an odin file. No offense if you knew what an ODIN file was you wouldn't be asking.
Whenever the upload finishes in 15 minutes or so, i will make a short description to go with it.

Great, Problems after JB update!

Got my JB update today, I was rooted stock before, and the install went fine without any problems.
After the update, my Quadrant score went down dramatically, from 4500 (stock rooted ICS) to 3700 JB.
So I did a factory reset and all hell breaks loose. I dont seem to have 4G anymore, although the 4G signs is showing on the top. Play store, Maps, Navigations, etc wont load (maybe since I dont internet it wont load?). After noticing all these problems, I did another factory reset.
And now I cant even sign in to Google.
Seriously, I never thought an OTA upgrade would mess up my phone.
Can anyone shine a light my way?
Thanks.
I had a similar problem with the OTA LH2 on a rooted stock ICS , I couldn't connect WIFI, a lot of apps weren't working properly. After 4-5 factory resets, still no go. My only option was to use ODIN and reinstall the complete firmware that way, and all was back to normal. Im pretty sure this happened because of OTA over a rooted device. Worth a try I think.. Good luck.
Odin the update like above then enter recovery and wipe again, sucks you got a messed up download.

Unzip the odin file, turn the device off, holding volume down, home button and then the power button, the phone should go into download mode, start odin up, connect the phone via usb, hit the pda option, then browse to the file you downloaded and unzipped, the md5 file should be the only file showing up, select it and hit start.
Phone will auto restart upon completion.

Ok, I downloaded the *.7z file, extracted, flash it through ODIN and get my wifi to work, and my 4g to work for a brief moment.
Then my 4g stopped working again, and i notice that when i go to Status option in the setting, my device is listed as Modified, whereas for a few minutes after i flashed, it was listed as Normal.
When my device was listed as Normal, my 4g would work, then it switched itself to Modified and it seems that Samsung or Tmo locked my device.
Ugh, I am so bummed!
Modified ststus is jusy becsuse your rooted. It goes away if you revert.

I am on stock ICS (Android version 4.0.4)
My baseband version is T999UVLEM
I rooted my phone when I got it at launch, and then put off all the incremental updates until official JB was released for Tmobile. Now that it's released, I'd like to update to. What is the proper way for me to do this? Flash through odin I assume? Will I still be able to keep my root or root the device after JB is installed?
Thanks in advance, I just don't want a nightmare situation like the OP if I flash incorrectly

One that I'm still wondering about though, is can I go straight from rooted UVALEM to the latest JB firmware? Or do I flash back to stock UVALEM and THEN flash JB? Or do I need to flash each incremental update before finally finishing off with JB?

Or they can use the regular firmware file, flash it via mobile odin which roots it for ya, without the hassle and is much faster, I used it so I can say clearly it did an excellent job.
Note: if hotfile is too slow and there are no alternatives, I can upload the full firmware odin file to dev-host for everyone.

I always use mobile odin pro. My favorite app! But not everyone wants to pay for it and the free version doesnt have EverRoot.
I usually recommend it, but too many people were updating today so I wanted to stick with what everyone should be willing to do!

Here is a step by step guide:
Easy and sure way to root your phone - Here is s step by step guide:
After you have followed these instructions your phone will be in the same condition
as it was the day you have purchased it except with the benefit of being rooted.
Download the stock-rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 Jellybean v4.1.1 T999 firmware: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390169635556426451
After downloading make a folder on your computer's desktop and unzip the
file using Winzip or 7zip so the .TAR file is in the new folder you just made.
Download and extract Odin into the same folder you made containing the TAR file
Here is the link for Odin: http://d-h.st/Q14
Download ODIN which is required for flashing the stock rooted firmware (a windows app)
Download the Odin Flash firmware for T999 Tmobile then copy it to the same folder as Odin
Run Odin by double clicking the Odin.exe within the same folder as the TAR file you extracted
Turn off your phone and boot into DOWNLOAD MODE (Volume Down + Home + Power Hold until phone powers up, then release and press Volume Up to enter Download Mode)
Once in Download Mode, connect the USB/Charger cable to the phone and plug into the USB port on your computer.
You should now see a COM** port listed toward the top-left of Odin (under ID:COM)
Click on the PDA button in the middle-right area of Odin.
Browse to and select the Firmware you downloaded (TAR file)
Make sure Auto-Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only options checked and that PDA is the only other thing checked.
TRIPLE CHECK your settings and that you have selected the correct firmware for your model phone and are using the correct options.
If you are using a laptop, make absolutely sure you are plugged in, or if on battery, that it is charged enough and will not go into sleep mode during flash.
Click Start to begin the flash. This will take a while, so be patient!
Once complete, in the top-left box in Odin, it will say PASS and the phone should have automatically rebooted.
You may unplug the phone and close Odin if you wish.
Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the system to boot the first time and then build its cache!
(It may seem to take a long time on first boot, this is normal so you must be very patient!!!)
Good Luck!

The reason is that Jody (the developer) removed the new RADIO/MODEM image
from the rom so everyone including those people who have AT&T Unlocked phones
can use the rom.
If you want the original baseband/modem/radio cwm/twrp flashable zipfile here
is the UVDMD5 Radio/Baseband Download Link - http://db.tt/RgrCGufl
Only flash this if you have a Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 device and you have Tmobile service.
You can root same way as all prevouse stock ROMs. Install custom recovery with Odin and then flash superuser in recovery.

Except for one thing. After odin flashing recovery you cannot let the device restart. Everytime you boot up it checks for correct recovery and if its not there it rewrites it.

That's one of the main reasons I always suggest NOT to odin flash the stock T999 4.1.2 tar rom
but instead flash the cwm/twrp T999 pre-rooted deoxidized 4.1.2 rom which Jody setup for us.
People should have been warned about what you said before they allowed the OTA update to
upgrade their phones unless they don't want root access and want their phone to be pure stock.

Its all been covered pretty thoroughly, and all folks need to do is read! I know its asking an awful lot for some.
I haven't looked at jovys but there are two files that cause the recovery rewrite, and if he didnt remove them his rom will do the same.
If I remember right they are:
Install-recovery.sh
Recovery-on-boot.p
The second is wrong im pretty sure, but its something similar. Check my firmware thread and it should be there.
Hope that helps.

I was just looking in your "Firmware/OTAs T999(V) Official, Leaked & Root66 FW & OTA Updates" thread
and downloaded the "root66_TMO_T999UVDMD5.7z" which is the pre-rooted Odin flash 4.1.2 firmware.
The reason I downloaded it is that I just want to have a odin flash rooted backup of 4.1.2 in case I need it in the future.
I wanted to ask if this firmware includes the modem/radio in the TAR file?
If it does, what is the filename of the modem/radio file? (I need to remove it).
My phone is an Unlocked AT&T I747 Galaxy S3 which I am using with Tmobile service and
I do not want to flash the modem/radio since it will not work with my phone.
Thanks.

Modem is NON-HLOS.bin. Can't remove it, because the md5 check will fail.
Maybe ask mrrobinson if he can give you any pointers on how to remove it correctly. The steps he uses to create root66 would likely work to remove the modem as well.
Do you have the same partition layout as us? If not, dont use any of the firmware. If so you can always flash it and then flash your correct radio after.

What if I remove the .MD5 from the filename ?
I don't think that Odin requires the .MD5 extension, I know I have Odin flashed
roms a while back which did not have an MD5.

I am sure I have the same partition layout, I am using the cwm/twrp flashable zipfile of the pre-rooted UVDMD5 T999 4.1.2 rom.
Before I got the Unlocked AT&T Galaxy S3 I had the galaxy S2 which I used with AT&T network and flashed the
root66 Odin flash roms before and had no problems, but since I am with Tmobile now I need to remove the radio file.
Since I am with Tmobile now, I never odin flashed roms due to the fact that they all contain the radio file.
Mobile Odin will flash without the md5 extension. Cant remember for sure with pc odin. I may try it later tonight to see for sure. You can also deselect the modem when flashing via M.O. in case you didnt know, though
I am also pretty sure you have the same layout as the t999. I appreciate you taking the time to do it in a way that is safe and wont brick!
I do think you would be ok to flash the full fw though, just make sure you have a copy of the correct modem and flash it right after.
Ill let you know for sure about the md5 after I get home and try it out.

[Q] Noob question :)

To start off my name's Gerry.
I have an sgh-t999v from videotron in Montreal. I would like to root my phone and just want to make sure I'm downloading the right file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687
I'm running completely stock 4.1.1 at the moment. Do I have to use the version 4.1.1 or can I use the 4.1.2 for videotron ?
I follow the directions from the same page right?
I ask because I've already tried doing this with instructions from here and it ended disastrously .
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-t-mobile-galaxy-s3-sgh-t999/
Phone crashed twice then could not get out of download mode.
I ended up finding a stock rom from sprint that I flashed with ODIN.
My counter is now at 9 I believe. I just want to make sure this will work because I don't want to have to go through the bs all over again.
Any insight as to how to make it even easier than it already looks would be greatly appreciated thanks.
4.1.1 or 4.1.2, either is fine. download the root66 file for your phone.
Extract the root66 tar file from the .7z file you downloaded.
Put phone into download mode [ with phone off, hold vol. down + home + power ], connect to computer and open Odin.
once in odin click the PDA field and select the root66 tar you downloaded.
Leave Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checked.
click start and
when done let phone reboot.
If you have issues flashing with Odin please ensure you are using the microusb cable that came with the phone, users have had issues using other cables.
you can stop here if you just want root.
If you want to flash custom ROMs, download ROM manager from play store to flash the clockworkmods recovery.

When I click on the links to download it doesn't let me.
Brings me here
{"INFO":"failed posted hashcheck","SOLUTION":"please make sure you have javascript enabled for androidfilehost.com. Hit the back button, enable javascript and try again please. we promise we are probably not doing anything nefarious. maybe. no promises though."}
Try using a different browser, like chrome or firefox (if you are not already using one of them) It seems your current browser settings are not properly set. So downloading a different browser could just save you some time and allow you to enjoy the almighty rootness of your S3!!

For the T999V and T999L, its best to not use Rom Manager or Goo Manager. There are a number of flashables that will only flash if you are using the d2tmo (T999) recovery. Using one of those apps will install d2can or d2ltetmo.
Easiest way is to download either TWRP or CWM (both are good, its up to you which) and flash in Odin right after you flash root66.
You'll want to download one with the .tar.md5 extension. Flash in Odin the exact same way you flash the firmware.
You don't have to do this, but its better for broader compatibility.

I flashed WICKED but no luck . The camera wouldn't work and couldn't connect to the network either maybe I'm doing something wrong . The phone is rooted but I've flashed 2 Rom now and no luck . Does anyone have a link for Rom that are just for the T999v model? Maybe I'm not looking in the right place.
If you flashed your stock kernel the camera wouldve probably worked. If you can't find one, ill make a zip for you a little later. Its usually tge kernel on stuff like that.
An no there are zero roms built only for the T999V. Everyone else has been doing fine with what's available.

Is there a rom that you would work on my phone that you could recommend then
please. it is greatly appreciated.
Just look at the ones that seem to get the most discussion. As far as I was aware, wicked worked fine for just about everyone, so I'd say just try another with similar features you want. If it doesn't work maybe another T999V user can give you a clue as to what you might be missing, if anything. I haven't tried most of them so I'm going by what I hear others say. There are several very good ones to choose from. I'd just start trying them each for a few days to see if any work well for you.

When I flashed a rom different from the stock rom I also had issues with the camera.
Option 1:
- You can try dialing *#34971539# (don't forget the * in front) and then selecting your Phone/CAM FW Ver Check
- Once you do that, a little box on the bottom will tell you your Rear Camera Firmware. You have to make sure that they match. If not, you can install the proper firmware (look around on the forums, I know its there)
- Extract the file to the root of your storage and then after that dial *#34971539# and select the second option. This should write the firmware onto your phone
- Exit out and then redial *#34971539# again and select the Phone/CAM FM Ver Check and see if the firmware are both matching. If they are, reboot the phone and it should work again
Option 2:
- If you are running a different rom and stock kernel, the camera may not work so you should probably flash the ktoonsez kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871946) I ran into this problem and after installing this kernel and changing my firmware my camera worked again
I hoped that help you out

Sorry, but Ive got to correct a couple of things here. This hasn't worked since at least a couple of updates ago. The firmware write option is locked. Also, you said to extract the file? Do you mean the option to perform the fw dump? This doesn't create a file you can see, use or flash that I've ever found. Not sure what you mean by this. Sorry it just doesn't make sense.
This is the correct way, if it were working.
Chose Cam to Phone FW Ver Check, if the camera firmware is older than the Phone firmware, then you would choose Phone to Cam FW Write. Thats it.
The dump, I believe basically created a fw img dump on one of the underlying partitions. No one ever reported finding it.
Anyway, I believe it was when we updated to LJA that we lost the ability to update the camera firmware. Also, the camera FW is not the device firmware, just so you know.
If you know something different I'm glad to hear it, I'm just not sure what you are trying to tell people to do...

I flashed Dandroid this morning and am loving it so far.
Completely trouble free. The only thing I ask is how do I keep all my apps that i've bought ? Or do I just have to keep downloading them from playstore ?

[Q] Latest CWM

I was wondering, does the latest CWM 6.0.4.3 have a tar.md5 version that I can use to flash the recovery via ODIN? I've digged through a few threads all over the place and tried Google searches but nothing comes up, either it's not available (only through ROM Manager) or I missed it somewhere.
Doc holiday 77 has them in his sig

Your othe option would be to use mobile odin from the play store, rename the .img to recovery.img and place in root of internal storage. then choose and flash with mobile odin.

That's true, but when wanting to switch from a stock non rooted rom to a custom rom, it makes it a lot easier and faster if I can simply get CWM and flash a rom instead of having to root the stock rom and then having to go through that process.

Good point. The last few times i have gone from stock to custom, i have used odin to flash a rooted stock. then I move forward from there since cwm .tars have been hard to find. I should have read your post more closely.
