[Q] Audio Levels too low for me - 8.9" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there an APK out there that really boosts audio levels, I've tried quite a few so called boosters on the market and none of them seem to make much of a difference. I'm getting fed up re-encoding my videos to get a decent sound level on the Kindle, (FYI - the same movies work ok on my Nexus 7).
I have just installed Hashcode's CM10 and was hoping it would help, but it has'nt made any difference.

Try volume booster from play store or in the pimp my ROM app go to apps and mods and install the Sony xloud and clearaduio . it will reboot into recovery and install for you if it fails just do it manually. The zip will be in the pimpmyrom folder in twrp

Thanks csolander, I've installed pimp my rom and will give the Sony stuff a go.

FYI of anyone following this thread :-
After messing about for a while I've come to the conclusion that the only way to get a decent sound level is to ensure that the source has a decent level to begin with, I've had a lot of success using AVIDemux to re-encode the files with a higher "volume" - there is no need to re-encode the video as the program strips the audio - re-encodes it a higher level and re-muxes the file - takes an average of 2-3 minutes for a 1Gb movie file on my laptop.
Hope this helps anyone having "hearing" probs.

Update
Now the movies speed up / slow down randomly - back to the drawing board

Any improvement for you with the Sony stuff

No Difference with the Sony stuff, I'm trying to find out what AVIDemux is doing to the movies to make them behave so strangely, bloody annoying cause it sorts out the sound level beautifully in just a couple of minutes.

Do I need to flasha stock ROM for Smooth Video playback and TV out?

I got my TP2 a few days ago and already had a custom ROM (EnergyROM Sense 2.5 Cookie + dinik glass May 31) waiting to be flashed before I even got the phone.
Yesterday I flashed the phone after reading the great noobs guide a few dozen times.
Flash went perfectly and the new ROM kicks the crap out of the stock 6.5 (obviously).
Then late last night, I decided to test Video playback by copying 2 random vids to the SD card on my phone.
(Both vids are Divx (.avi), one is 624x352 res and the other was similar resolution).
The SD is a Transcend 8GB Class 6.
Both videos were a complete slideshow in core player (built into ROM). Probably 5fps in the 'small screen' and maybe 1 frame every 3 seconds in full screen!
This was the first time I have felt dissapointed with my new phone. My previous phone (Samsung Jet) played these same vids super smooth. (I know its 800mhz vs 538 etc).
After doing a fair bit of searching/reading this morning I have learned that temporarily disabling sense SHOULD help ( I will try ASAP tonight) and I can use a script for auto disable/enabling of sense. But people who used this fix didnt report framerates half as bad as mine so I'm not too hopeful on that.
Even worse is that I read that TV-out is screwed on ALL custom ROMs except maybe Valkyrie. Is that still the case??? I cant test this as my TV-out cable still hasnt arrived.
Smooth video and TV-out are two of the MAIN reasons I bought a TP2 AND the Jet before it.
AM I GOING TO HAVE TO FLASH A STOCK HTC 6.5 ROM TO GET SMOOTH VIDEO PLAYBACK AND TVOUT?
I hope thats not the case because in every other respect this energyROM has been a pleasure to use. Eyecandy and customisation are EXACTLY what i was hoping for as is the improved performance/speed. Please dont tell me I cant use this ROM.
ANY help on this would be GREATLY appreciated.
I HAVE searched, I HAVE read the FAQ
Also one quick question
Neither vid would even start in WMP. Is that just a case of missing codecs? Whats the best codec pack for these ROMS?
Thanks in advance.
short answer. NO.
Use coreplayer to play divx etc. You have to play around for the correct settings. Then you can watch your movies smooth. Search for some tutorials. The tv-out will work BUT, the quality is poor.
Thanks for the reply Lennyz1988.
I'll keep looking for tweaks and tutorials re: coreplayer....no luck so far, cant seem to find anything.
As for the TV out being poor quality....I'm devastated to hear that.
There are a couple of TP2 tvout demos on youtube and the framerate and resolution looks great (on a 42inch plasma).
Whats the deal with that, is the TVout quality better on stock rom?
Also just found a very strange quirk with my problem.
I just tried playing both vids again and both played much smoother in fullscreen than they did last night (still only ~10fps though).
So then I open up task manager and kill 3 apps that were running (file explorer, comm manager and I forgot the 3rd)....
After closing these and trying the vids again it was back to 1 frame every few seconds in full screen mode!
How can I get worse performance with less apps running in background?? that just doesnt make sense...does it?
Now I'm really stumped.
Gonna try the mortscript to disable sense as soon as I can....fingers crossed.
Thanks for your help Lenny,
cheers
I agree that if you are getting poorer playback on the Energy than the stock ROM, you just need to tweak the Core settings.
This is what I did: In TCPMP, go to Option>Video and select GDI. I forget what the default burned into the EnergyROM is, but I think it was Direct Draw, which was incredibly stuttery. Changing to GDI made the playback smooth on most videos for me. Some videos (probably higher res ones) will still stutter/freeze. But most of what I play works great, and MUCH better then it did on my phones stock ROM.
well... after playing around with some settings in TCPMP the framerate has improved from 0fps to around 10fps (guess), but obviously thats still pretty unwatchable.
In TCPMP I went to options>video, and changed the driver from Drirect Draw.
Raw Framebuffer runs at ~10fps but with bad tearing.
GDI runs at ~12fps with no tearing.
I tried all other options with no luck. I havnt tried any buffer settings yet in TCPMP or WinMo.....Got any suggestions for buffer sizes?
One setting that did give DirectDraw the same performance as GDI was to disable "Use Device stretching for blitting".
I have no idea what this does though so it doesnt help me when it comes to gaining some more fps.
Just gotta find that mortscript to try now and see if that helps too.
Any help on any of this would be greatly appreciated. I AM trying to find the answers for myself but Im having no luck.
only just saw your reply redpoint, lol. Thanks for that though.
I'm still only getting low framerates with GDI though, lower than you get by the sounds of it.... and this is only with a ~170mb Simpsons episode @624x352 resolution.
There must be another setting I need to tweak, somewhere. Hopefully the script to disable sense will give an acceptable framerate.
Thanks for your help.
PS... Is WMP not worth trying? Where can I get codecs for it? any searches for codecs keep coming up with links to coreplayer.
You should use Qtv in Coreplayer. The playback will mostly be good but not 100% of the time.

Qtv is not available on the version of TCPMP that is cooked into the Energy ROMs. And using Qtv when I was on the stock ROM had tearing down the middle of the screen constantly, that was not watchable for me.
doh! so thats why I cant find any mention of qtv in TCPMP.
Can someone PLEASE do me a big favour?
Point me in the direction of the mortscript which shuts down TF3d/sense while coreplayer is running and then re-enables it when CP closes?
I cant find it anywhere and Ive spent the last hour trying.
Does this scrupt exist? I read about it earlier - was it just speculation/ wishful thinking?
Anyone know where to find this script
Here are my buffering settings that I am currently using. No real reasoning here, just trial and error. And its something I always seem to be messing with, just to see if I can get it a bit better.
Normal buffer size: 4992
Preload at underrun: 5%
Preload for audio: 128kb
Microdrive unchecked.
Make sure you different videos from different sources. Some (a minority) videos will stutter and freeze no matter what. But most of the TV shows and movies I've obtained from "sources" on the internet play fine on Core.
Don't feel alone that you are confused by the Core settings. I was searching around, and found a post on the Core official forums, and it basically said that their documentation is terrible, even for the pay version, and it something they are working on. So there is no official documentation explaining the setting options, and not much better info on the internet from users, aside from trial and error experiences. Pretty much most users have no idea what many of the options even mean.
And no, WMP is not worth trying. Codecs are pretty non-existant. And even for formats which are compatible, the playback is usually not watchable. Most everyone on these forums and elsewhere will tell you Core is the best player on WM.

I can't help you as far as the script. But what I can say is that some users will swear that unloading TF3D/Sense got them better Core performance. But I tried this on the stock ROM (unloading TF3D), and it made zero difference to Coreplayer performance.
Thanks for the help peeps.
Just tried those buffer settings and it did seem to help slightly....will play around with those some more.
And yeah, I'm gonna try a whole load of vids tonight see if there is a encode configuration which plays smoothly.
I'd even be willing to convert my movies (from similar sources to what you probably use, redpoint) if I can find the right encoding settings for good framerate and reasonable resolution.
If you have any suggestions for a good converter and some good encode settings, I'd love to hear them
I still REALLY want to try coreplayer with sense disabled.
Anyone know where to find that script please?
I notice that CHTEditor restarts Sense when it applies changes, Is there any way to use the editor to shut down Sense and then let me start it after playing a movie?
Failing that...
IS THERE A SIMPLE WAY TO TEMPORARILY DISABLE SENSE?
What about video drivers? Is it worth updating them or does the latest energyROM come with the latest and greatest drivers included?
Sorry for all the questions people. I just really want to get this playing smoothly and its driving me nuts
Thanks again for all your help.
Well... I couldnt find the script I was talking about but I did find one for the HD2 which disables sense while Youtube is running (Created by 'HJ200' here on XDA).
Code:
regWriteDword HKLM, Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\HTC Sense, Enabled, 0
RedrawToday
Rotate(270)
RunWait "\Windows\YouTube.exe"
Rotate(0)
regWriteDword HKLM, Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\HTC Sense, Enabled, 1
RedrawToday
Exit
So i simply changed the RunWait so that it waits for TCPMP.
Ran the script and I get the warning about disabling SENSE, I click OK and nothing happens
It doesnt shut sense down like TCHEditor does.
Can any of you coders/devs tell me why it doesnt shut sense down?
Or can someone please tell me a simple way to temp disable sense?
Come on guys, Im trying Ive spent all day on this and I'm getting nowhere fast lol.
If I can try playing vids with sense disabled then I can rule that out (or not) and move on to something else
I too was frustrated with poor playback with divx. Even after re-encoding for TCPMP. So I just bit the bullet, and encode with the "Ipod touch" settings and have excellent quality with the built in (but limited featured) players.

yeah, I'm pretty much ready to give up on it too
Looks like I might have to buy a cheap Portable media player that takes a micro/sd card, even if only for decent TV-out.
I'll definitely try encoding to "ipod touch" standards though.
What do you use to encode? Are the settings basically .mp4 @ 480x320?
Ive tried half a dozen different divx files now and all are slow/stuttery. Some are better than others tho as redpoint pointed out.
I also found a few semi-interesting things out.
On the files that play 'resonably' well, lowering the volume to 0 seems to help quite a bit (good for buster keaton movies? lol)...indicating a sound driver or codec issue?
Also, in the buffer settings of TCPMP....
Setting the "preload at underrun" to 1% seems to help quite a bit with some files, especially the ones which were helped by the volume=0 thing.
Setting the "Normal Buffer Size" to 5120 and the "preload for audio" to 192 SEEMED to help all videos VERY SLIGHTLY.
I'll try encoding with ipod touch settings and see what its like, but I'm guessing that resolution will look horrible stretched to 42" making the TVout almost useless? Gutted.
Can anyone tell me how to disable sense please? Once I try that and the re-encodes, I give up
Cheers fishel

With CORE player select GDI it was VERY choppy. I selected QTv and it plays ultra smooth. This is a youtube Avatar HD trailer btw. My normal video files on the card play smooth too as long as I get the right enconding..which I am still trying to figure out.

Very surprised to hear that...
I use the TV-out functionality on my Touch Pro 2 quite a bit. The quality is excellent for things like presentations and pretty good for videos when using the built in album to play them. The setup I'm using is the 2.07.401.1 stock ROM with PAL output via the official HTC store TV-out cable.
by built in players I mean the windows media player or the HTC player (by Photos and Videos) and it plays great, I never tried video out.
You disable sense by un-checking sense in the item tab in the today icon in settings and choosing "windows Default", (or anything) instead.
Well first of all I'm an idiot When I was mentioning coreplayer earlier, I was actually talking about TCPMP... I didnt even realise there was a difference lol.
So now I have aquired coreplayer with mixed results
QTV seems to help on some videos and doesnt seem any quicker than GDI on others.
The only thing is... I tried one vid which has AC3 audio and of course coreplayer gives me a codec error. But it lets me play the file with video only and it runs SMOOTH AS SILK.
Benchmarking gives around 150% on this file compared to ~60% on most of the others ive tried.
So I'm guessing this is mainly (soley?) down to the greatly reduced total bitrate (looking at the benchmark results).
SO...COULD THIS POINT TO A PROBLEM WITH MY SD CARD?? OR EVEN A PROBLEM WITH THE SD DRIVERS ON THE TP2???
My SD card is a transcend class 6 so I doubt that is the problem.
The only thing I'd like to test now is An AC3 codec for coreplayer and/or a QTV plugin for TCPMP.
Anyone know if either of those exist?
Searches turn up nothing.
Thanks for that fishel! Tried tcpmp without TF3d and there was very little or no difference.
Was worth trying anyway.
Chazco, I'm glad to hear that about the TV-OUT. But It will be useless for me unless I can get a smoother framerate on some vids.
Looks like I'll just have to start converting my movies....
either that or try a stock rom
Bad times.
Thanks for all the help anyway peeps.
I'm off to try and get TomTom working instead....maybe that will cheer me up

[Q] Music player with 5.1 ch sound?

I love the stock music player that came with my galaxy s because of it's ability to play music in 5.1 ch.
However, I have now flashed the latest MIUI to my sgs but the music player is not able to play music in 5.1 ch, so I was wondering if anyone of you guys know an app that can do this?
Thanks
5.1ch is just a sound effect. You can get it on any player app with basic tweaks to the equalizer settings.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Ah, I see. Does anyone have any tips on how to achieve this with an eq?
Sent from my Computer using My Keyboard
With 5.1ch people usually mean that instead of stereo (which is 2 channels, left + right) you have 4 additional channels (Center + Back left + Back Right + LFE or Bass (.1))
Your phone only has one speaker so I'm not sure how you want to achieve this.
The audio output is only capable of sending out stereo as well.
A source file with multi-channel audio is usually in *.vob format (DVD video format) but I know of no player that will show this on Android (except for the Archos Gen8 stock video player).
Audio only files would typically be in *.wav or *.ac3 format but same here, I know of no player that will play these multi-channel streams.
Perhaps I misunderstood your question?

The stock galaxy s music player was able to simulate 5.1 ch (when headphones were plugged in) which provided a very nice boost in sound quality. What I'm looking for is either a port of that music player to MIUI or another music player that is able to do the same thing (or some eq settings that does it would also be fine).

That option is a load of bull XD.When you listen you only have 2 speakers assuming you are using earplugs which makes 2.0 the highest you can achieve. You shouldn't bother about it... just a stupid tweak that imho makes the sound sound worse...
your comment is a load of bull.. no offence here. But the guy is asking for something dont tell him if its bad or not. He likes it other people like it some dont like it you find it bull. But he doesnt comment you on that does he?

All I was saying that the option is stupid and it's fake it doesnt provide 5.1ch surround sound and I thought he was thinking that and I was helping his out of his dream (read his 3rd post... this is the case here..). If this is the case my comment is valuable if this isn't well.. he'll just do nothing with the information... It's a win anyway, he has nothing to lose, playing around with a EQ is way better ;/. Install voodoo sound tbh if you want a good musical experience...

The 5.1ch option was not stupid, even though it was fake. It made the sound much clearer and better on all headphones I used.
Will look into voodoo sound, thanks for the tip.
I had 5.1 available when I was using a gingerbread version I got from here. Now I can't seem to find one Pretty sure it was Calkulon or something along those lines. It was way better sound (with headphones) in my opinion, so I'm trying to find a current version that will deliver that "fake" surround

On a side note, I got Jellybean using a vid a watched from QBking77 on youtube, and he references you guys alot.
There are some bugs with Jelly Bean... For instance my mic cuts out when I hold the phone to my face and the screen goes off. Bluetooth headset... NOT A CHANCE lol. On speakerphone i can talk just fine. Headset, works great too. Sometimes I have to pull the battery because the screen dims. But for the most part, it works great.

[Sound MOD] AC!D Audio Technology: Treat your ears to a whole new sound experience!

Hi guys...
I've used Beats Audio Installer (from Play Store), Nexus Louder and Modified DSP with Beats on my phone.
All of them are fairly decent enhancements of our Defy's already nice audio output.
>
But then I flashed AC!D SoundMOD, which I came across in one of the Galaxy S3 forums.
>
IT IS AWESOME.
>
There's a major improvement in sound...
I noticed that even complex background rhythms are very noticeable when using the phones speaker.
>
Earphones and external speakers improved by whole orders of magnitude!!!
>
I'd like more of my fellow Defy users to be able to enjoy this great sound package, and hence I'm making this post.
Please keep in mind that I'm just reposting this here, all work on AC!D SoundMOD was done by r-ikfoot, Rizal Lovins and Knight47 and any other associated devs.
>
AC!D contains all this audio technology:
- Beats Audio by Dr Dre (Powerful bass)
- Clearbass Sound by Sony (Clear Bass)
- Xloud by SonyEricsson (higher sound
volume and clearer sound on speaker)
- Dolby Digital Sound (Equalizer enhancer
bass setting and Surround setting)
- Surround Sound (Deeper bass and
reduction of bass distortion plus EQ setting
support)
- Alsa by Walkman (Audio resampling and
driver activation for android phone)
- Dynamic Bass by Walkman (more Bass
frequency and better bass support)
- DSP Manager by Cyanogen Team (EQ
setting support overall more powerful sound)
- Audio resampling from Sony Xperia T
(NEW!)
- Clearbass audio setting from Xperia
T (NEW! Bass even clearer and deeper
than before!)
- Sony Walkman Player ( NEW! now
with Xperia V style!)

1. After downloading the zip, first make sure your System partition has at least 20MB free space. (That's quite a bit, I know, but we'll talk about reducing that later in the post.)
2. Place the downloaded zip on your SD card in your folder of choice, and reboot the phone into recovery.
3. Clear the cache partition.
4. Now choose 'Install zip from sdcard'.
5. Choose your zip file from its location and confirm that you want to flash it.
6. Wait for the zip to get installed.
7. Wipe cache again. [I just like doing this a lot ]
8. Reboot and rejoice!

[HOW TO] Free up some memory after flashing AC!D:

Now this zip is 18 MB, but 8MB out of that is Walkman visualiser. The Walkman Google and Facebook plugins are ~2MB.
All these apps are no use as system apps, so go to Titanium Backup or whatever app backup/ manipulation software you use, and convert VISUALISER to user app.
This won't affect visualiser functionality, just free up some memory.
Similarly, you can move or uninstall the Google Images, Facebook and other plugins.
Only the WALKMAN player won't move to user storage.

All those audio mods for android are useless, everything you need is an equalizer and a trained ear.
Even if you put 10 plugins modifying the bass frequencies on there, that won't change the fact that you're plugging 1/2 inch headphones into your ears.
The AD/DA converters will still be as bad as they were when being manufactured.
You won't get the same bass response like from a subwoofer (which isn't really audible anyway, most of it you feel in your stomache area) and you won't have ANY crosstalk like from regular speakers.. and bear in mind that this is the setup your music is being created on.
There are two ways to improve your listening experience on your Android phone:
1) Don't use those ****ty earphones
2) Use those ****ty earphones but try to recreate a linear frequency curve by listening to music on a better setup and then use an equalizer to match it at least a little
If you've been listening to your music as MP3s then this whole operation is stupid anyway.
Buy (!) your music, and rip it in a lossless format like FLAC. This will increase the size of your rips, but it might be worth your while.

I know that with crappy speakers, there's no way to improve the sound experience.
As I say in the OP, most of the improvement was over EXTERNAL SPEAKERS.

And I'm not talking just bass boosts here. To be honest most plugins end up over emphasizing the bass, and end up distorting the music.

I have disabled dsp by renaming it and then rebooting .
Using Sennheiser CX 680 in ear .
Work fine. Also Acid Mod for Sony. I tried and works well ^^
there is no need for audio mods, an equalizer is more than enough... its all about the headset, not the software.
im using a thermaltake esports isurus headset and have 320kbps mp3 files, highly doubt that anyone would need better sound quality than this...
Have tried today for a couple minutes....poweramp is much better than this mod....
Sent from my MB525 using xda app-developers app
DSP Manager with 10hz bass unlock is significantly better
but ty anyways.
Thanks.

[Q] What’s with the EQ cluster****?

I’m using a Jedi Rom with Awesome Beats preinstalled and find that the EQ only affects the music app (in my case Sony Walkman). Not satisfied with that, I installed the Equalizer app from the play store because it is supposed to be a system wide EQ. Indeed, I did for some moments in time get it to work that way, ie it affected the sound in phone calls, audio streaming apps (like NPR News) as well as music. But somewhere along the line what with updating Rom versions it all came apart and now I am getting conflicts and errors (Equalizer fcs when I try to use it on phone calls in particular). I think it wants to be the only audio EQ effects package.
Further complicating the mix is MusicFX, which is apparently an EQ for the Google Music app (which I don’t have installed - Walkman is currently my only audio app). Having made my Xda searches, I know mine is not a new problem – variations have turned up with different phones and EQs. I have tried uninstalling Beats (various methods) and MusicFX, freezing and unfreezing one or both, reinstalling Equalizer between reboots after doing the former, etc but unfortunately, nothing has gotten me back to my goal of a single system wide EQ, maybe because I’ve had botched uninstalls every time. (Some of the errors I’ve gotten are: “Sound Effects Currently Not Available”, “Unfortunately MusicFX has stopped”, and Equalizer audio effect not available.)
Given that every audio app seems to install its own EQ (ex. PlayerPro and PowerAmp), how do you get a system wide EQ to work, much less remain stable when trying out new players? Do you have better luck with Roms that start out with no EQ (is there such an animal)? If anyone can shed any light on the subject (ie, how to set up and keep a system wide EQ working), I’d be grateful…
Eh, i don't believe it was supposed to be system-wide. You probably wouldn't want to EQ calls or your ringtone though for the safety of the small speakers.
You can go flash Ac!d 5.0 which works great on the GN2. Disable Awesome Beats and any other EQ app you have and let Ac!d do the job. It's system-wide, and works as soon as headphones are plugged in. You can also flash the volume mod, maybe the one that goes to 58db, if getting it louder is a concern.
>silentecho13, thanks for your response!
Actually I do want to EQ calls, or minimum I want to be able to if I need it. What brought it up in the first place was I had some really terrible earphones that needed a huge amount of EQ in order to use them for calls (it was like a tin can on a string lol). I've ditched those earphones, and I have already applied volume edits to my default_gain.conf which helps somewhat. Still, using EQ I find helps the sound in a better, controllable way than just upping the volume, and I still would like to apply it to phone calls, especially when the person on the other line is using a poor phone. When the EQ cut out and stopped working I really could tell the difference and I didn't like it.
As for the question of whether EQ was supposed to be system wide I don't know. Judging from the posts I found, it appears to me that the subject was more discussed a couple years ago than recently. I don't know why this is, or if I just don't know where to look. Was Android changed in a way since GB that makes it harder to implement? Did people give up on it as a goal? Or am I just doing it wrong? Well, I'm sure I am doing it wrong, but I was hoping to hear from someone who knows how the OS handles it and understands the issues of conflicting EQ app installs.
In any case, I just tried your suggestion of flashing AC!D Audio (5.0 for Samsung along with their redo of the Walkman player) and it was more of the same ("Unfortunately, Sound enhancements has stopped") except now I don't have access to any EQ settings. If I re-enable the Awesome Beats, its EQ will load, but the controls have no effect on music. I think I need to start with a Rom that has no sound enhancements or EQs preinstalled. Or perhaps I could make Acid or Equalizer work if I could just successfully clean the Awesome Beats Audio off my system. I guess I'll just try that again and see...
Alright, some new info and theories...
I managed to uninstall Beats Audio from my Jedi 6.1 system. I followed TEKHD's method in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003153&page=3, except that I got the replacement files off the CleanRom 3.0.1 zip. This was to make sure that the files are from JB 4.1.2. I didn't flash, I just manually added the files and changed their permissions. The other change from TEKHD's method was I had to put back in the MusicFX.apk that I'd deleted, also from CR3 in order to get AC!D working later.
I tried to reinstall the Equalizer app but that was a no go. I'm starting to think it might have a problem with 4.1.2 - the same conflicts as before no matter what I did, and when I had it working before it was on a 4.1.1 base. Anyway I uninstalled that and installed the AC!D Audio 5.0 for Samsung and the Noozxoide equalizer. That I finally got working, I think, as designed. Unfortunately it is not a complete system wide EQ, or at least, it didn't affect phone calls for me. It did work for music and an NPR news stream, just as Beats did. I also tested it with the stock video player and it was able to alter its sound too (didn't try with Beats on that one).
What I do wonder though is how different any of the EQs I have tried can be from one another? They all clearly have the same interface to what I guess are Android system level controls: Compression, Bass Boost, EQ, Virtualization, perhaps the same audio controls that the STweaks utility also exposes. They (Equalizer, Beats, Noozxoide, etc...) all look the same. Why doesn't Android just have its own stock EQ to use those presumed controls? As far as AC!D goes, it appears to have put back the same files that I had to delete to get rid of Beats, though I have to believe that the AC!D folks have changed plenty of settings in those files.
Still wondering what it takes to get an EQ to handle the phone audio and hoping someone comes along who actually knows this stuff so I don't have to keep guessing...

[Q] ABX Double Blind

Hi, I've recently discovered an audio format I'm looking into using on my device in the future, instead of MP3. The format I've recently discovered is opus. I know it's not quite as universal as MP3, but it appears as though it's becoming commonly accepted that converted files are nearly transparent at bitrates as low as 144kbps for a lot of people, even lower for some others. This would be awesome, as I'm out of space on my phone and have about 30GB of MP3s I'd like to have with me in addition to what's already on my device. I'd like to find a way to make sure the difference in audio quality between my V-0 VBR MP3s and my Opus files at 144kbps is undetectable to me.
I was looking for a way to test this reliably directly on my Galaxy S4, because the sound quality I get on this device (using V4A) is far better than the quality I get on my computer, even with lossless files. Does anyone know of an application that will allow double blind ABX sound tests on Android and that can support .OPUS, .MP3, and .FLAC files? I've searched in the play store, the forums here, and on Google and haven't been able to find any such application, but figured my last step was to ask people here on the forums before I gave up entirely.
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read my post and respond.
