Internet usage/traffic tracker - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So my niece is using to much data data and although I can easily just shut it off I'd rather get to the root of the problem. Are there any apps that allow me to see what they download that take a running tally of what access data and also maybe how much ?
She says it's just doing reading homework for school and APUSH notes... that doesn't use 3 gig in 2 weeks.
Any idea of something anyone has heard of or tried ? It's an Atrix HD and not rooted and I'd rather not root since I have no desire to mess with Motorola stuff . I know I'm in the GS3 area but this is where I hang out haha.
Thank you !

No idea about the Atrix HD but under settings on the S3, there's Data Usage.

what are your thoughts on this, buddy?

Ended up being stupid Facebook... 2 GB in 7 days of background activity. Used the app and set it up easy to let her known and restrict background data.

Data throttled! Four weeks until end of billing cycle...options?

I just got data throttled after uploading my entire music library to my Amazon cloud drive (very dumb)! I can't go four weeks with 56k speeds. What are my options?
Thanks

My second would be for you to call your carrier..jesus

Erm... this would be a question. They come down on you pretty hard if you don't read/follow the forum rules. Anyway, there is a (discontinued) thread in development on how to beat data throttling. Unfortunately, it was discontinued because the carrier(s) are throttling on their side; so, pretty much nothing you can do but appeal to your carrier. My other advice would be to find a favorite free wifi spot for the next 4 weeks (McDonalds or coffee shops usually have them). Good luck.
wait......... so the 5Gb soft cap affects when youre UPLOADING aswell?!
I seriously did not know this
I didn't think about the cap being on the upload side either. I saw the thread on the workaround but after seeing that it was out of date I wasn't sure what my options were.
Thanks

On uploads, huh? That's weird... have you gone on tmobile's site and checked the usage details? I guess it does make sense though... I mean upload speed is important and is mainly forgotten by consumers, carriers, and isp providers alike. The only thing I know that works is deleting the throttle files in /data/system/throttle folder and that's very temporary. I'm sorry not thing else really works anymore since it's pretty much controlled ota now.

If deleting the throttle files is temporary, couldn't we set the throttle file as read-only so it can't be written?

I think we did try that in the past but since some things have changed in the way tmobile throttles... its worth a try, for sure.
Any users who are currently throttled... try it out for us and let us know, please.
I'm throttled right now thanks to ATT turning off my internet even though I paid and left me with no internet for 2 days, but i don't where the throttle files are. Could someone point me in the right direction?

umm wut... I recently moved to a new apartment an don't have a isp so I'm doing tethering and currently at 1.3gb of my monthly usage. I get really good speeds here (1mb/s+) I would like to be able to have REAL unlimited data so I don't have to settle for a land line. I'm sure plenty of others are in the same boat, any new info or thoughts on how to accomplish this would be awesome.

Excuse my ignorance, even though I'm pretty handy with rooting, switching roms and such. Exactly where am I looking for active users? I'm assuming this must be on the computer, if so, where?

This is unavoidable guys. There's nothing we can do about it we've been trying for a long time. All we can do is switch phone companies what are contracts are up. ):

The only thing you can do is delete it everytime you get slow speeds. That might be every reboot or after several hours. I figured that setting it to read only won't do anything but it was worth a try, I guess. Just use wifi as much as possible next month. That's the only way to avoid it if you stream a lot of music or video. Oh well...
Thanks bro

First there is a step by step thread so pull a search. Second, I'm capped atm since I downloaded all the Rom making tools.. and I have done the walkthrough with removing the cap files, and they don't work for me. Thirdly, use WiFi and lastly, as an idea try getting on one of their old servers, so check for an older APN setting. Hope that works.

We know... it's my old thread But yeah, it doesn't work anymore, nor the alternate apn, or any other hacks. The only thing to do is delete the throttle file after ever reboot (or as needed), watch your data usage with the tmobile app or via their website, and use wifi as much as possible.

Yeah I was driving myself and it seemed to work for me as a fluke. I have cards up up but I'm not able to activate them. I'm hoping this is at least a start to fix our borked wallets.
So I guess it is a software problem if this is working.... so can u tell me exactly what u did to the T bro???

I put what I had in the original thread. It seems like after changing the phone name in prop I rebooted and didn't have data. Everything seemed pretty random. I was literally driving while messing with it. I'm going to teu and reproduce this exactly though.

Unlock while at home

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone knew of a good app for unlocking the tablet while connected to your home's WiFi? To be clear I would still like a lockscreen, but be to have it that when I leave home it goes back to being pin protected. I tried tasker but it can only disable the lockscreen completely, and while I would settle for that, I was wondering if anyone here knew of a solution! Thanks
Easy to do with Tasker. Best money you will spend if you dive into it. You can make your devices do anything you want.

I couldn't figure out how to make it only unlock but leave my lockscreen there (like it doesn't go straight to home screen when I press unlock button) do you know if that's possible ? I looked around rather quickly because if it didn't have it I wanted to be within refund period :S
Check out this link http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57478334-285/the-most-practical-creative-ways-to-use-nfc-with-your-android-device/ . Came across it on FB and just watching the vid showed some of the possibilities for the NFC chip and I think it will do what your looking for.
Seems interesting.. I think the main problem is that disabling security and and leaving lockscreen is not an option sadly so like, it's all or nothing :/ I could live with that I suppose haha but kinda sucks
Have you seen this app? It does exactly as you want and works great, I've had it, and its great

it doesn't support patterns, the only lock I use. PINs and passwords are too slow to enter every time.
Try "Settings Profile" on the app store. Similar to tablet but much easier to use. I use it to do exactly what you describe.

I'm going to treat myself to some NFC tags to see if that will do it

It's basically a bunch of Tasker tasks already programmed. Taller is more powerful, but harder to learn.

What are you doing with those files? If you have to even ask what Perseus is, then you for sure shouldn't even consider thinking about that file again.
Have you tried restarting your phone? This is a very peculiar issue.

Best way to optimize my nexus ? Seems slow and laggy after 4.2

Hello,
I got my Nexus in August. I have changed roms on it, and am currently running bigxie 4.2 rom. I run a smart optimizer that has like 119 MB ram left in general, and has so many background apps and services running. Whats the best way to control this ? My phone seems like it has some really bad resource problems, and its just SLOW. I have setcpu running t at 1.2 GHz as well....but its just laggy !
Whats the best way to fix this ?
Thanks !
Stop interfering in Android's multitasking is the main way. Just let it handle its own memory. That's how its intended to work.

That's exactly what's interfering. Just let it function as it was intended. If it needed optimization you don't think Google would've done it in half a decade?

MSconfig is the figuring out. It's built in. Your optimizer wasn't. So keep it from mucking up Androids multitasking if you want smoothness. I'm not going to argue with you. I gave you my advice.
