BIG Problem - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

For like the past day or two my phone has been running extremely hot and the battery isnt charging like it normally does. Now it charges extremely slowly, if at all sometimes, and no the contacts are not dirty. I Tried charging it using USB and also wall outlet, ive tried changing the wall "brick" used to plug in my usb cord to higher and lower amperage and voltage but same problem. Now back to the heat problem, Ive tried switching up ROMs, kernels, ROM/kernel combinations just in case it was a kernel and/or ROM problem and same thing. Both problems happen with my 3800mAh extended battery and stock battery. Please if anyone knows anything about this or has any help its well appreciated.

Weird, dude. Well you close to being able to safely assume its not a software issue. But before ruling that out completely I would Odin back to stock; it really does make a difference. Also, can you tell me where the phone is getting the hottest at? Is it just the battery or is it somewhere else?

Its starting to sound like you have a hardware problem. I'm not sure what device is right there but I think its the radio? Maybe someone can confirm.

Think sprint will look at it even though its rooted or must i unroot first? I took my old Nexus S and 3D to them rooted and they still checked them out. Thanks for the help

They may not care, but I personally would try to get back to stock not to chance it.
Also, I most definitely recommend fastboot over Odin. The only time I would use Odin, is if my USB port died and I wanted to get back to stock.

OKayy thanks ill try that

[Q] Phone Will Not Boot / Bricked

Hi there...
So I have a slight issue. I've been away from the XDA community for a while now, and anyways, I came back and wanted to upgrade into the latest Fresh 3.5.0.1 Rom. So I downloaded it, new radios, and new pri pack, and put it on and went to work. Now that I'm here at work, I flashed 3.5, the new radios, and the new pri. Rebooted (I think I probably should have rebooted after flashing the rom, before loading up the others :-\). I got the wonderful green error arrow thing. I've had this happen before when flashing roms, so I pulled the battery, waited a few minutes, then put it back in. Pushed the power button, and now I have a brick. It won't power up at all.
So I need help, as I've never had a brick before and I'm stuck here at work, working on my mac laptop. Any advice on how to get the phone to start into recovery so I can nandroid backup would be wonderful.
Edit: I was upgrading from Fresh Evo 3.3.0.1. According to Fresh, I should have been able to flash this rom over my old version. :-\
Edit2: Realized that General wasn't a good place for my to ask my question, so I brought it over here.
Are you positive the battery didn't get super drained? Regardless, if possible, keep it on a charger in the meantime.

My battery was around 95%.
Alright, and what is this about a green error arrow? Try removing the battery for a few minutes, again and see if it powers up. Keep it on a charger.
After it wouldn't turn on, I pulled the battery for about 5 minutes, then put it back in--nothing. It's sitting on the charger atm; I might stop in at the Sprint Store during my lunch break and see if they can replace it without me getting hit with the 100$ deductible from Asurion :-\
Well, keep it on the charger. By any chance, anyone else in the office that has an Evo where you can test the battery to make sure it didn't magically die on you?
If not, try putting the battery back in and holding the power for an extended time...like a minute. I have heard that to work on occasion.
The green arrow was downloading the radio img. I think your pretty much bricked when u pulled the battery u caused it to stop downloading the img. Dors it by any chance enter bootloader if not itsbricked

But unfortunately, you're bricked. When you go see Sprint, don't tell 'em you were rooted..blah blah...say that your installed the latest OTA and its suddenly not responding.

Right. Yea hopefully my boss will let me out for my lunch in about 45 minutes and then I'm going to head to the sprint store and see if I can get a phone headed this way asap. Thanks for all your help!
Random Question: Do you think they'll let me keep the mSD card if I tell them that I have a bunch of private information on it that I wouldn't want getting into the wrong hands? And secondly, if anyone has gotten refurbed units--do they send them with SD's equipped, or will I get to keep my old one?

Yup, you're definitely bricked. That green arrow meant it was writing the radio image, and a battery pull during htat process almost gaurantees a brick. That sucks man. Before you go to Sprint, I would highly suggest you clear your sd card, either completely, or just ensure that there are no ROMS, flashable zips, or anything that will give the Sprint tech a clue that you've been rooted and flashing stuff. I've read where a phone was bricked and wouldnt turn on, so the Sprint guy wouldn't have known he was rooted, but he looked at the SD card, and saw ROMS, kernels, and other things that indicated the guy was rooted before. The tech was a jerk and wouldn't work on the phone and red flagged the account. Guy with broken phone = screwed. So yea, either remove your card before you, clear your card before you go, or remove all root/flash related zips and files from your card. Good luck man.

Well if they are able to swap it right there, they should let you keep your sdcard, and they can keep the other one. And they would have to give you the phone as a "complete" unit, so it should come with an sdcard, and if so, you can keep it as an extra.
Also, just in case, take the sdcard out now and copy it to the mac, and remove all you "rooting" files, roms, kernels, ect and place back on the sdcard; in case they don't let you keep it...but they should.

Yea I pretty much deleted everything. Never know which files might look not good to have on there. My store isn't a full blown Sprint Store--I don't think they have any real smart tech people, but it never hurts to be safe. I'm still going to ask for the card regardless.
Thanks for your help everyone--I can't click thanks anymore today--apparently I'm limited to 5 per day!

Update:
So I received an express ordered replacement on Friday. I'm was super excited until I saw the screen. There is a thumbnail sized bright spot. I'm assuming that the phone I got was a refurb, but this makes slightly angry. Now I have to go to a repair center and probably get a screen swapped out or get a new phone ordered in. Worst part about it: it's a 45 minute drive to nearest repair shop. NO wait, I lied, the actual worst part about it is the fact that I can't root until I can get it fixed
Random question: I had been away from XDA scene for awhile. It looks like CM7 is looking pretty snazzy now with 4G functionality. Is there any downside at all anymore? Before it was because there was no 4g and no HDMI. Any thoughts are appreciated.
Take your sdcard out and then tell them you just downloaded the latest ota and I have had one refurb with card and one without either way KEEP Your sdcard

ICS isn't unstable you just messed up basically. This is why you should read the brick threads and warnings first about flashing between ICS. And gingerbread. Your phone sounds like it's bricked. Sorry dude.
As for the guy with the boot loop. You're probably not bricked you just need to try and get into download mode and odin a stock rooted rom. How long did you pull the battery for?
Under volting can cause boot loops but your issue could be a combination. I would post in the brick thread. Someone experienced with that problem can help you.
I recommend pulling the battery and waiting an hour or so then redo it.
Good luck!

That's possible if its some proprietary cable. These phones use a standard mini USB to USB so any standard generic cable should work. I use a really thick and durable Logitech cable that came with a mouse, or sometimes a generic super long one I have that's like 10 feet

Ok u guys to to read the OP again for what your flashing you cannot flash any ROM from ICS right now it has a high risk of brick if your going to flash an ICS ROM the best bet is from a cwm based kernal like EL26 not Rogue and you shud be back on GB so use one of SFhub packages it takes an extra 10 minutes tops

Wow. Now you're spreading more misinformation. You certainly can flash roms from ICS recovery its just not 100% safe in all versions and flavors.
Its generally user error that's causing the bricks. The OP will usually claim he did everything perfect but 99% of the time it comes out sooner or later they did something wrong out of haste or neglect.
You're not necessarily helping though with your false info. No offense intended I just don't want you further confusing some poor noob who takes your word...
And just to further clarify: yes odin'ing stock EL26 is safer than flashing from ICS based CWM.

@Carbajal, yes it's your LG cable. I have same problem with same cable (from Optimus S). Sammy cable will fix it if you still have it. I forget the specific reason why but in layman's terms it was explained to me that the Sammy cable may have a longer pin which triggers the recognition. If you search the Q&A forum you should be able to find the thread.

As you didn't clarify it before, did you try the Sammy cable provided with the phone? If that isn't doing it you may want to check Device Manager (assuming Win PC) and make sure nothing is disabled or not working properly. I mention this as it happened to me once when I tried to reassign the COM ports to use CDMA Workshop.

Word!
It freaked me out when I first tested this phone months ago since I came from Optimus S also. Didn't want to unpack all the accessories so just used the cable that came with the LG Optimus S, would charge, but no data. Thought the USB port on the E4GT was busted. Then tried 2 more LG Optimus S cables with the same result. Was about to return the phone when on a whim unpacked the flimsy looking Samsung cable and voila, it worked.
That flimsy looking Samsung cable has gotten me through over 300 flashes now w/o ever having a cable related problem.

ross, this is your problem. i'm in the same boat. in that thread, someone was able to repartition the /data partition to his sdcard and it worked (albeit at the cost of sdcard space). worth a shot, but keep up with that thread as it's pretty active.

I did this sunday morning, trying out AOKP. Read that there was a possibility for corruption, did it anyway. after deciding it was too buggy for my liking as a daily driver, i attempted to go back. Tried my USB Jig with no luck.
Took it into Sprint on Monday, an hour later the tech tells me its toast. (Tell me something I don't know). I tried so hard to weasel out a new White model.
I've got a refurb'd black model and i'm suspecting there's a few issues with it. Its completely stock, no root. I've had to reboot four times today already from not turning on or coming out of sleep. Then every so often the phone will not stop vibrating during a haptic feedback response. I've turned haptic and vibrate off, but it still locks up on occasion. Funny but weird as hell. Probably gonna take it in later this week and try my luck again at getting a new model.

wont turn on, vibrating when screen is off, am i bricked?

my phone will not turn on or go into recovery or download mode, every time i put the battery in, the phone turns on for a second, then the screen fades off and the phone will constantly just vibrate every 2 seconds... with the screen off... i dont know wut to do... has anyone else had this issue?, id really appreciate the help. thanks.... honestly ive never seen anything i couldnt recover my phone from.

It could be a hardware issue. in which case you could send it to Samsung for repair. But they might not want to cover the bill if they find out its rooted and running custom firmware.. Maybe try to fully brick it first so they can't see your flash counter

might be out of the question, its locked on tmobiles network, only works on att... lol in other words "blacklisted IMEI" so........ im kinda on my own here...
This exact thing happened to me.
I couldn't ODIN or went into recovery because the phone wouldn't stay on long enough.
It would turn on for a few seconds and died and would constantly vibrate.
I tried JIG to force into download mode. Didn't work.
I tried JTAG service. Didn't work.
I was lucky enough that the phone was still under warranty so I had it replaced. But I think your phone is as good as gone.
You can always try JTAG (the only service that MIGHT bring your phone back to life) and hope that you're luckier than I was.

I suggest that you send it for JTAG service anyway. If they can't fix it, they'll refund your money less shipping charge so you're only out a few bucks.
If they could fix it, then you obviously could sell the phone for a little bit more. Considering that you're already willing to cut your losses anyway, might as well give it another week or so. At least this way you know that you've tried absolutely EVERYTHING and know for sure that the phone is actually beyond fixing.
Or, you can try contacting this guy.
He's looking to buy a T989 motherboard. I'm assuming a "working" motherboard, but hey... you never know, right?
Good luck!!!! :fingers-crossed:

Help Me Fix This [CASH REWARD]

Hello All
So, on my GSM Galaxy Nexus, i clean flashed the CodeNameAndroid ROM, and still using the Stock Kernel that comes with it.
My issue is, when i charge my phone, the battery is charged to 91% and stops there, it keeps charging, but never goes above 91% and the charging does not stop too...
I did a battery stats wipe, i replaced the battery with a new one, same thing, took phone under warranty, workshop tech said nothing is wrong with the phone....
I'm galmost giving up on this, it's really annoying, if anyone can help, a cash reward will be sent your way through PayPal, upto $100 because i love my GNex and not planning on replacing it.
Thanks!

Dang... Well, imma give the stock JB a go n see
I forgot to mention something...
I was running Android Revolution HD 6.0.1 ROM 1st, combined with franco Kernel r281 .. then saw the ROM got an update to 6.1.0, so i fully wiped my GNex, flashed 6.1.0 and then flashed Trinity Kernel.
Since then, i had the battery issue.
Now, running CNA ROM 3.6.6, and just few seconds ago i flashed franco Kernel r282 which is the latest nightly build, i have the phone on charge now, let's see how it goes

I had a very very similar issue with my Samsung Infuse and I tried EVERYTHING! Turned out to be my wall charger; apparently Samsung wall chargers are known to have cheap internals and crap out.

I had the same issue using cna once except it kept stopping at 93. I wiped dalvik and cache and re flashed the rom, gapps, and kernel and everything was good. Maybe give that a shot.

[Q] Small battery issue

Alright so I'm charging my phone (which was at 30%) and I do a quick reset, when it boots back up its at 100% 0_o, this happens pretty often. It's not a big deal was just wondering if anyone else Experiences this?
I've had it happen a handful of times. I haven't noticed any issues with battery life so I'm not worried about it.

I actually had a similar issue when I was flashing another rom at about 30%. When the rom came up it had full battery. So right now I am trying to use hipkat's guide to calibrate my battery.

i just finished the calibration on my phone and so far so good.
It happens to me often. However, you will probably notice the battery life sink like a BRICK out of a plane, but it will stabilize somewhere around the correct battery reading.
