I used the tool kit for sgh-l747 to root and get custom recovery. Now my brother wants me to do the same for him but he has the T-Mobile version sgh-t999. Can anyone tell me, do I have to do anything special as far as removing files or drivers or anything like that, Before I use the tool kit on the second variant. or will the toolkit make a different folder for sgh-t999 and be able to differentiate between the two? Thanks for any help. I asked the same question in the toolkit thread but got no response. Maybe it's a stupid question I just don't want to brick my bro's phone.

The toolkit supports both devices so there shouldn't be a problem. When you begin the process, you'll have to select which device you have. That's when you'll select t mobile and version of firmware.

The two are fairly close ot each other anyhow. Even if you flashed something at&t on the phone you aren't even close to bricked. These are hard to brick devices and the toolkit makes sure you are using the right filed and as long as you choose correct carrier you are just fine. Only thing that bricks your device is flashing stuff made for the i9300

Hey guys a bit ago i wrote a batch script to help people root their nexus s and their nexus s 4g's. why? because i could.. so anyways long story short, ive glanced over the galaxy nexus rooting procedure, seems fairly familiar . ive got a version 5.0 of my one click for teh nexus s 4g which now has menu options for the gsm version of the galaxy nexus. just need someone to confirm taht it all works buttery smooth before i go make a post about it over in development

There's been a batch script out for rooting the GN since a week or so before the phone was released, from a developer who has a test phone: it includes versions for windows, mac and linux.

yea im aware of it, however that flashes a pre-rooted kernel. id much rather flash cwm so that users can then flash any themes/roms/tweaks. the superboot method indeed does root the gsm model just fine. but all it does is send a fastboot command. you have to unlock the phone yourself and have the drivers from somewhere else get the phone into fastboot mode so the script can send

my script on the other hand talks you thru enabling usb debugging, includes drivers gets you into fastboot to unlock (if you need it) flashes cwm and then guides you thru flashing root.zip but still doing most of teh heavy lifting for you (rebooting bootloader, unlocking, pushing the zip etc etc)

which is done by borky. hes a cool guy, when i had made the orginal one click for teh nexus s 4g he asked permission to make it nexus s compatible. was un aware that he had made a GN version tho that was a my bad... as such if anyone wants to use this then its of their free will (obviously) but ill step aside and give any assistance to borky should he need it and everyone should refer to this thread here for further inquiries regarding one clicks that flash cwm

ive had over 40 downloads of 5.0 and no one has come forward and said anything... i dlike to check it off as a confirmed working by some users so qbking77 can make a nice sexy video on how to use it/root etc etc.

Apparently, you can download GalaxyS2RootNew.zip. Unzip the file and install runme.bat.
This is supposed to work on all variants of the Galaxy S 2. You will get ROOT access but this method does not install a new kernel with recovery so you can't install custom ROM's.
Please advise if anyone has heard of this method, has tried it, does it work?

I have followed the stickies and have watched videos on how to root the device using ODIN. That method works very well, but you need to back everything up first which requires a Micro SD card. I don't have a Micro SD card at the moment so can't use that method.
I was just wondering if anyone has tried the alternative method on the T989 model. It seems a lot more user friendly, easier, safer and you have no chance of bricking your phone. Thanks for your reply.
You don't need to backup anything but it is recommended in case you screw something up. Probably not going to happen if you don't flash a new rom, and stick to smaller changes like theme, or maybe a new kernel.
I've done odin method and seems pretty foolproof to me. I don't see how it can get less of a change to brick unless some other physical hardware problem intervenes in the process in mid-flash.

Tried it last night on my new T-Mo GS2 (followed the galaxys2root.com instructions), it did not work for me. Plus side is that nothing bad happened to my phone even thought it didn't root successfully.
I have the U.S. based T-mo phone... so not sure if that's different than the phones used in Canada.

I think the Tmobile (T989) and Telus (T989D) version of the phone are the same. Unless you are running version 2.3.6, then the zergrush exploit doesn't work.
Backups are overrated (lol). I never do them and completely ignored it and went ahead and ODIN flashed the recovery and then flashed Juggernaut immediately.
Took me literally 2 minutes to do.

Right - my phone did come with 2.3.6. I ended up using another method to root - which was relatively easy also.
Anyway to root Bell Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE???

Am also still looking how to root this thing. The Skyrocket HD is merely the same phone, branded on AT&T carrier and this article made it clear that the phone has been silently put to the side, in favor of the coming S3. (phonesreview.co.uk/2012/05/10/samsung-galaxy-s3-buries-att-sii-skyrocket-hd).
That is, even on samsung online personal profile page, you can even find the SGH-i757M in the list of phone version, to add in your owner's page.
If anyone of you manage to root the phone, thanks to let me know.
Correction: The SGH-i757M can be found in the BAR model section on Samsung profile page and not under Smartphone. Hmm... weird categorization. Are those bar phones not smartphones? Oh, they are mini tablets.

Try the Zergrush method which I linked in the previous page.
I haven't decided 100% whether to get it, as I still love my original S2. But if I get it I will incorporate it into the kitchen, once we figure out the custom recovery method.
I'm assuming any of the Tengrak GS2 HD recovery images (Odin .tar) will work, as long as you don't flash the associated Tegrak kernel for the ES120L/S/K?
You can always flash the stock firmware above in case you mess up.
Tried the Zergrush method, I had no luck. Oh well no big deal for now

Or flash the first link provided by rxulan in page 1. It's the stock ROM but the system.img has superuser injected in it.
And/or Google for the Tegrak custom recovery in Xda. Just flash one of those recovery.tar meant for the HD, but not the kernel.

ODIN does not recognise .img or .ext4 files. I understand those are recovery files that CWD can restore but your device should already have been rooted. This is exactly the purpose of this thread, rooting the device first of all. This have been difficult for us to find the right .md5 files to use in ODIN. The device we're trying to root, SGH-i757M.

Odin doesn't recognize the files inside the rooted tar archive (the one linked on page 1), but you can flash them as a tar.md5, which you already know is a preferred format. There are guides online on how to convert it to tar.md5, you can Google it or I can post it later.
First, try to flash the TAR file as is; if it doesn't work then convert to tar.md5, then flash it.
Anyways, it's strange that nobody wants to be the lab rat to test the rooted TAR or the custom recovery that we have already discussed. We have the emergency stock ROM to fall back on if anything goes wrong. Looks like I'll have to purchase this device soon and try it out myself I already have all the files and stock firmware downloaded and ready to go

I have my S3 all clean and sexy.
I'm looking for a way to Root my SGH-I999 (correct me if im wrong), and i have a macbook pro. Sorry for mentioning that, i know i should be stoned to death for even mentioning that.
I have seen a few different tutorials on rooting the S3 for windows, and even one or two for MacOSX. But i wanted to be sure that this would work for my T-Mobile variant as well as the international versions that are shown in the video.
Could i use the international version's tutorial?
If not, where could i find a good place to root my device?

You could use boot camp/parallels on your mac for windows, and root your device that way. After rooting, be sure NOT to install ROMs that are not compatible with your device variant; doing so will result in a bricked phone.

This is my second android device (skyrocket being the first) but that one was easy. All i had to do was "oneclick" which was run a bat file and your rooted. then to get CWM i could use rom manager and i could nandroid/flash/restore/etc

i finally ended up rooting..
it was a little confusing because the forum said "use odin , download here" and there were 5 versions .. wasn't sure which one to use =) then in the 50 pages, like 20% of the people had problems..
in the end, i used 3.0.7 and the newest AT&T image from here...i had problems at first but that was resolved by using a USB port in the back of my computer instead of the front.
i am now rooted =)

My work is the same way. I got an Elago micro-sd card reader to do this. After you have cwm, twrp, etc, you can just download roms, take your micro card out of the device, copy your downloaded rom to the card and re-install.
There is multiple versions. But it should not be difficult to know that of you an AT&T GS3, you don't use the international version or Verizon version.
I do agree that it can be complicated compared to other devices though. But Samsung is a lot better than some companies in this regard. Also, the Nexus devices are something to keep in mind.

Samsung phones are ABSOLUTELY the easiest phones to hack. HTC is the ***** with supercid ****. All I did was use Odin flash a rooted stock image and then went into the market and downloaded GOO MANGAGER and in goo hit settings and hit flash recovery. Tooooooo easy. :thumbup:
