Tried installing OTA on Rooted phone - Hero, G2 Touch Android Development

Hi,
I had rooted my phone and was using a custom rom with android 2.3.7. Since the phone was lagging and slow, i though of downgrading to 2.1 OTA.
I flashed a 2.1 OTA file via the recovery mode. Now the phone is not booting up and also not entering the recovery mode. While trying to enter the recovery mode, a RED TRIANGLE and an exclamation mark is what is showing. At this point, if i press volume up button and power button together, its going into the Android system recovery mode.
Also i'm able to get into the FastBoot Mode by pressing volume down and power button together. But i've no idea how to use these modes (FastBoot and Android System Recovery).
Please help me out in recovering my phone..
Thanks in advance

I had the same problem, I couldn´t install the official software any more.
I advice you to install HEROINE ++, if you want the stock HTC rom without all the bloatware and also more performance improvements.
I'm using elelinux, with android 2.3.7 and I can tell you, it works like a charm.
And another reason why I would advice you to use elelinux is because android 2.1 doesn't support much apps anymore. Most usefull apps require at least android 2.2. So you should really consider staying at 2.3.7 and then with elelinux.
Cheers.

recovery...i can't go in

hi all
i followed the guide to go into recovery mode...i try 3 o 4 times, but nothing.
When i see the greendroid i press the bottom right but nothing.
What is wrong?!?!?
maybe u can get some answers from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046427
Put custom recovery , push recovery boot, the phone power off , then power on and appears the motorola logo....and then nothing all black.
To restart i should pull out the battery .
My rom is 3.4.2-145 Finnland Deblur.
You need to boot up the phone holding down the volume down button.
Try installing 2nd init from market... much better way to get into recovery.

Sorry for a possibly not "good" question, my Defy just arrived - new to robots, but I had win95 up and running for months right after release so probably not hopeless idiot, if ya know what I mean
So, the custom recovery is only accessible via "reboot into recovery" in themselves? What I mean is, installed this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875233 and it seems to work, but what bugs me is that the "hardware" power-up-while-volume-down still brings the old menu. Got me thinking, if I love my Defy into not loading Android at all, those nandroid backups gonna be useless cuz I wouldnt be able to access the expanded recovery boot menu, right?
Is there any method of getting custom recovery down at "powerup+volumedown" loading menu so I can safely love up my ROMs )))?
(Or even in that condition RSDLite + USB are normally enough? Worried that PC wouldn't recognize the brick if android is hopelessly broken)
Yep, I'm starting all my Android experiments with learning all about recovery PPP
P.S. UK 2.51 if anyone cares
Before reboot,pay your attention to Setting->Applications->Development->USB debugging.If ticked,cancel it,then reboot.

[Q] Hey everyone! Would appreciate your help with my cousin's DHD

Hi everyone! I own a rooted Nexus S with a custom ICS ROM, so I'm pretty familiar with flashing new ROMs using ClockworkMod in general. My cousin asked me to update her phone because it has become quite laggy. I figured I would take a stab at it, but I've run into a few issues.
First, she bought the phone used about six months ago. The guy she bought it from had already rooted the phone and installed a custom GB rom on it (Android Revolution HD 6.1.5). I can't seem to figure out how to boot the phone into recovery mode. ROM Manager has not been installed, and when I try to boot the phone to recovery mode by pressing the vol down button and the power button, it just boots regularly. Here is some of the other info:
Android version:
2.3.5
HTC Sense version:
3.0
Kernel version:
2.6.35.14-RCMIX3D-ACS-ACE-NCR-[email protected] #9
Baseband version:
12.56.60.25U _26.10.04.03 _M
Build number:
3.06.405.1 CL150597 release-keys
Browser version:
WebKit/533.1
I was going to attempt a full wipe, but I don't want to mess anything up. How would you recommend I proceed? I would like to load CWM onto the phone to make flashing a new ROM as familiar as possible. I was thinking about installing IceColdSandwich 8 AOKP, if that makes a difference. I also might try the most recent version of Android Revolution HD, since that's what she's used to. Whichever is more stable is what I will keep on the phone.
Again, your help is greatly appreciated. Mods, I understand that some of my questions have been answered in other threads, but I would appreciate if you would keep this thread open until I have a solution to my unique situation.
Thanks!
Mike
tri to install rom manager and flash recovery or you can try ron toolbox.
i use rom toolbox and it's working pretty good, i ca't boot in recovery using volume + power because volume button it working pretty hard.
so i use ron toolbox it has manny option including rom manager
^^ Thanks!
Any other suggestions?

when the phone is fully booted then choose to reboot in bootloader. From there u can choose recovery. If CWM is not there u can just flash it from command prompt. I would suggest u use 4ext Recovery that is far better than CWM in my opinion.
If the phone is already rooted but laggy maybe u can try to do a data and cache wipe...
^^ I don't have the option to reboot to bootloader, only a full power off. I will try a data and cache wipe, but I've only done it in CWM. I also know nothing about using 4ext, has never been mentioned in the Nexus forum.
How can I do a data and cache wipe without access to the bootloader? Can I just delete specific folders?
1.Power off the device
2.power on the device while holding volume down.
3.from bootloader choose recovery
4.proceed from there

That's the problem, when I power on the device while holding volume down, it just boots normally, not into the bootloader. No idea why this is the case.. I'm wondering if I should just do a factory data reset and go from there?
It sound like your volume button are broken =\
And can you boot into your Rom? and are you rooted?

Hi. If you can't reboot into recovery via pressing the volume and power button. Go to Settings and then Power. Unclick the Fast boot checkbox. Now power down the phone completely. And then press the volume and power button. You should now boot into recovery mode. Please click Thanks if this method works for you.

If You still can't reboot in hboot with volume down, You can do this...enable USB debugging, plug the phone to the PC as charge only and then open a CMD as admin and type adb reboot-bootloader, or better adb reboot recovery. In order to do that You must have the drivers installed. Have in consideration that if You don't have a working volume rocker You won't be Able to choose anything unless You use touch recovery.
try install this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377757&highlight=4ext
all the information u can get from that page,,,,
The volume buttons do work, I can change the ringer volume no problem. I gave the phone back to her for now, but I will try again in a few days and report back. Thanks for all the help everyone.
Since it has a sense based rom, is fast boot turned off? Maybe the reason with difficulty in booting into boot. Though pulling battery should negate that.
Personally I would install 4ext app and recovery and use that
Heck you could use rom manager to boot you into recovery. Then manually wipe and install.

Avoid using from manager. It doesn't work well on this device. Use the 4ext recovery.

As has been mentioned already, did you pull the battery out and put it back in before trying to boot into recovery?
Also, make sure that she knows or saves her APN info which she uses with her carrier to access the internet. You can use APN Backup & Restore to save it as an xml file to your SD Card. It doesn't work with Ice Cream Sandwich (in case you flash an ICS rom) but you can manually read the saved xml file (on your pc) and enter the info from that.
This makes sure that you can reconnect to the internet according to your original phone and carrier data contract (regardless of what APNs happen to come with the new rom).
If I can't boot into recovery, pulling the battery out first and putting it back in works for me.
Choose a rom and download it to your SD Card beforehand too.
Well, thanks for your help guys, but she turned around and sold the phone for $150 yesterday =P
Appreciate your help! I may be in the HTC forums more often, looking at picking up a One X very soon.

[Q] T989 stuck on samsung logo - no power button

hey guys,
I was on 4.1.2 I had a "NO SIM" issue so i decided to try to root and flash 4.4 rom (was using touch recovery 2.7.0.0 all the way)
then it got stuck on samsung logo, I need to know if it's possible to boot RECOVERY MODE either FROM DOWNLOAD MODE or some touch/vol buttons way to boot into recovery, I have tried everything within my knowledge, I start the phone by sliding the battery out and in while USB plugged. or into download mode by holding both VOL buttons. I need to get into recovery and do a full wipe so I can do a fresh jelly bean 4.1.2 again.
thanks!

Are you saying that your power button doesn't work or what? Also, this belongs in q&a. I'll ask a moderator to move it.
Sent from my SGH-T989
EDIT: thread moved.
I'd fix the power button first. Then the rest is easy. You're in for many headaches with a bad power button. Plus, if it acts up while flashing anything, you could be in real trouble.
it's a little urgent on needing the phone to use it, thats why am digging into this. the button wont be here until at least wednesday 13th.
but yeah i guess i'll wait
thanks for your responds guys!

[Q] Help, please with installing Operating System

I successfully rooted my phone yesterday. While trying to get tethering to work, I somehow corrupted the operating system. In one of my more spastic moves, while trying to get things working again, I managed to erase the entire operating system. The only thing I have on the phone now is unlocked bootloader and TWRP recovery.
I tried reinstalling the latest Sprint RUU through both adb and SD card. No luck, I get error messages each time. And whenever I try to boot normally, the phone freezes with a white screen and HTC logo until the battery runs out. Any ideas what can be done, or is the phone dead? Thanks for any help.

Download a ROM on your PC (ViperOne is my favorite) and put it onto your external sd card. With your phone off, hold down the power button + vol down. This will take you to fastboot. From there, using the volume keys, navigate to hboot and press the volume button. then navigate to recovery, and press volume. You should be able to flash the ROM from there.
EDIT: If the phone is on, hold power+ vol up to force the phone to reboot (takes 20 seconds or so), then AS SOON AS THE SCREEN GOES BLACK, slide you finger from vol up to vol down. Then follow the steps from there.
Thanks very much. I'm downloading the Venom ROM right now. Just a couple of questions though. Do I have to update the firmware before loading the Venom ROM? If so, can you explain how? Second, from your instructions, I can't tell if I'm installing the ROM directly from bootloader or through TWRP? Thanks again.

Firstly, you should use the reply function on a post if you want a response. That way the person you are responding to will get a notification. I just kinda stumbled back onto this thread.
What was your firmware before? Chances are you'll need new firmware if you are asking. If you go to hboot/fastboot, it will tell you under OS. If it is blank, it will be because your recovery is outdated and we can tell by the hboot number. 3.16=4.4.2 ~3.18=4.4.3 ~ 3.19=4.4.4. The OS number would be more useful though.
Thank you so much. It was a piece of cake, and the Venom ROM is so much nicer than stock. I can't believe I spent hours trying to unsuccessfully flash the stock ROM when I could have upgraded to Venom so easily. And also thank you for your recommendation of the Venom ROM. It keeps what I like about Sense but is a much nicer experience.

[Q] Keep getting recovery instead of download mod

Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade the phone so I can get a new android version to play pokemon go on for my son.
I have tried pressing volume +- down , power volume +, and power volume -.
Everything I tried gets me to the standard recovery.
This is a non-modded phone.
Any ideas?
I have an option in the recovery mode to apply update from ADB. That knocks out odin but I'm not sure if the default android recovery will work for that.
Any suggestions?
Hello, I don't know if you are still having trouble, but to enter recovery mode you must hold volume up and volume down while plugging in a USB cable (one that is plugged into a computer). You can find the latest stock update, Jelly Bean, for this device here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226886
However, I believe Pokemon Go requires Android Kitkat or newer so you may need a custom ROM. If you decide to install a custom ROM you should still flash the newest stock update via Odin first to ensure your device is fully updated. Although I am not entirely certain if Pokemon Go will work on a custom ROM, as you may run into problems with SafetyNet.
I wish you the best of luck . Let me know if you need any more help.
