Yea, but I have this OTA update that came to the phone recently and it has not been able to install via the OS. I am guess one of those three is blocking the update from installing. Can't sell the phone like that!

[Q] 4.0.A.2.368

has anybody who is in canada on rogers figured out how to unlock the bootloader for this phone? or is there a rooted generic world version of 4.0.A.2.368?? ive tried everything and cant get fastboot working
The trick that was needed in order for my system to use fast boot was to disconnect the phone from USB, turn off the phone, and then when powered off, select the menu button (the button to the right of the home button), and hold the button down while you plug in the USB cable. The light above the usb slot will turn blue.
once that is done, use the code that Sony/Ericsson provides, and use that with fastboot.

Both questions have been answered numerous times and your second question is a piss take!
I've seen the rooted IMG of this firmware but has there been a ftf of it done for world generic? I'll try that trick and see if I get fastboot
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
tried unplugging it from usb powering it off and holding the menu button. my pc makes a noise telling me something is hooked up but the light on my phone turns green once the screen lights up with the sony ericsson title the screen goes off after thet but the light stays green.

Have a browse of the section you're most likely to find it, and have a browse of the namaste thread. ;-)

still havent had any luck getting my bootloader unlocked. tried some stuff from the namaste thread de branded flashed the north american generic firmware did a ota update after rooting but it is only .145 and not the new .368 do you know if there is a rooted .365 ftf file? im pretty new to this and cant find alot of info for rogers phones
So far i know the only way to unlock rogers band xperia arc bootloader is using the setool. I am rogers xperia arc too and unlocked the bootloader already XD

thats awesome do you have a link on how to do this?
ive read somehwere but cant find it again if you use the custom hk firmware you can get the new .368 ota update i tired the generic north america one and only got up to .145
first of all, setool is not free software. If you want to know more about setool, you can google search "setool".
If you just want a root version of 4.0, i can suggest just flash a hk version 2.3.2, do gingerbreak, then OTA to 4.0.
ill try the hk firmware then ota. is there a specific hk firmware? or just the generic 181 hk firmware?
flashed the generic .181 hk firmware used gingerbreak and did the ota update to .368 and now im one happy guy. not in a rush for the bootloader. thanks for the info

[Q] Arc Root

Well It looks as if I Cant remove unnecessary apps on my Arc without rooting.
But here is something i wanted to ask before I go ahead with doing That
Q1) Is it necessary to Unlock My Boot Loader for Rooting or Rooting can occur without Unlocking it aswell?
I mean that I have read rooting without unlocking it but will it be the same locked or unlocked?
Q2)Unlocking My Boot loader means a 100% surety that my warranty will be Nulled right? (I Live in India, Rules don't differ here or in UK does it?)
Q3) If I have Rooted and NOT Unlocked my Boot Loader, Can I still update my Phone software through SE PC Companion? And Is my Warranty Still Safe?
Because I read that ICS will be available for Arc in the first quarter next year so I want to update my phone using SE PCC and NOT by flashing even though I know the pro's of flashing
Thank You so Much!

1. No you dont have to unlock BL to root your arc search for doomlords easy rooting toolkit
2. As far as I know yes
3. Yes you can still update with SE PC companion but I think updating via PC companion removes root. And your waranty is safe
You can use zegrush to root without unlocking bootloader. I live in India too. U can still update after rooting but not after unlocking. Rules apply everywhere.
Xperia Arc (rooted)
Thank you sooooo Much!!!
One more question
@Tatit1011- in reply to ur question 1, are dere any pros/cons of rooting after unlocking BL and. Rooting without unlocking it??

If you unlock your bootloader you CAN: flash custom roms, kernels(for overclock), and generally anything.
You CAN'T: upgrade via se, either pc or ota via the phone. Plus drm is lost, as is your warranty, but you can re-lock it
Generally, if all you want to do is remove system apps and use apps like titanium backup, root explorer etc then just root. If you want to try custom roms(there's only one you can flash over stock kernel, I think) then unlock the bootloader.

Upgrading from .42 to .62

I have a UK Xperia Play on .42 firmware with CWM recovery and root provided by Zerg Rush.
I've heard that I need .62 to install some of the custom firmwares.
.42 appears to be the latest firmware I can get OTA. I'm not sure the best way to upgrade to .62, do I need to go via .58 or similar.
Does it matter that I have a UK phone?
Is it possible to preserve my settings?
Will I need to re-root at any time?
In the long run I am looking to install DooMKerneL and probably something like Jokawild.
You have to flash the ftf file for your phone
Here is a link to 99% of them
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1589399
If you install a new firmwares. Maybe you'll need to root it again..
But since the devs makes the pre-rooted custom ROMs, you don't need to root it anymore

I don't have an unlocked bootloader. Is this required to install a custom ROM even if I have root?
Is there any disadvantage to unlocking the bootloader?

No unlocked bootloader = no custom kernels/ very limited to roms
Only disadvantage is it voids your warranty, but being that you have root, you have no warranty anyway lol
I was in the same position as you. I wanted to get a custom ROM and be able to overclock my phone. After a few annoying errors, I finally got it up and running
Basically, your going to have get your phone into flashmode and then flash the .62.ftf file on your phone. Congratualtions you now have .62FW (although youve lost root).
To get root on .62 FW, your going to have to flash a custom kernel (I did DoomKernel v14). To flash a kernel, your going to have to unlock your bootloader. After unlocking and flashing the kernal, your phone is now rooted.
And plus the positive side Ive heard is that you CANNOT brick your sony eircsson phone. (well you probably could but there is a very very slim chance of that happening).
Thanks.
It seems I can't unlock via the regular Sony way as Unlock Bootloader is set to no.
I think I need S1Tool or something similar (maybe something I have to pay for) to get my bootloader unlocked. I'll check the forums a bit before I ask any questions that haven't been asked before
i did it via omnius and it work great, i just payed 19.76 for one single unlock credit on gsmserver
not sure why people say that root voids warranty.
i have ATT play 4g and it was having hardware issues, so i flashed the stock ATT software back and took it to the store. i got a "new" one in the mail two days ago.
I also sent my rooted xperia play that had the slider broken to CLARO El Salvador and they repaired it (They flashed their ROM again XD)
Now i have unlocked bootloader but who cares i have premium insurance
Any modification to the software voids the warranty..
Update:
I downloaded s1tool and connected the test point to the ground. Everything seems to have worked so I am guessing my bootloader is unlocked. Is there anyway I can verify this, or should I just attempt to install a kernel?

Try to put the phone in flash mode (green light) if it recognizes it, it's unlocked. I think there is a sequence or symbols/numbers you can do to check it, but idk what that is since im a r800x
To check your unlocked bootloader you need to dial: *#*#7378423#*#* , then go under, Service info > Configuration > Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes/No.

Build 10.1.A.1.395 - Is this the newest

Hey
I've had a Xperia ZL for about 2 weeks now, love the phone.
I'm using Build 10.1.A.1.395
Mine is a Rogers C6506 Variant - I got it brand new (off contract) from Kijiji and unlocked it via code.. I'm using it with LTE on Virgin Mobile Canada without issue.
Am I using the newest firmware? PC Companion says so, but from what I can find my firmware is from March and there was new firmware out in May, is this correct?
Never heard anything about 395...anyways,253 is the latest firmware available(307 is going to come soon,,also a 4.2 update is nearby),try updating through Sony update service(Google this for more info)
If you feel that I've helped you in any way,,please hit the thanks button
Sent from my C6502 using Tapatalk 2
.395 is the oldest, actually. So no.
Since your phone is branded with Rogers, you will need to wait for Rogers to update their product which will probahly never happen. Maybe they will update when Sony updates to 4.2.
If you want to update via PC Companion, just flash your phone with a generic 395, 434 or the latest 253 FTF with flashtool and the next time they (Sony) release an update you will be able to receive it via PC Companion or even OTA.
Remember that flashing a stock Sony FTF file doesnt void your warranty since you dont unlock your BL.
Don't wait for Rogers to update, you'll wait forever....
Have fun...

This is great news. Is this difficult? Would you be so kind to point me to the correct files or provide a little guidance? I want to do this yet can't afford to muck up.
I am having the same issue with my phone. If I unlock it though Rogers
can I update it directly from Sony PC Companion or will I still have to wait for
Rogers updates and would have to flash it like you guys are recommending?
Also would unlocking it through my carrier enable me to unlock the bootloader?
Thanks

If you flash the Sony generic, you will get the updates through PC Companion or OTA as they get pushed out by Sony. Rogers is extremely slow to release new builds and i really dont think they update unless its like from ICS to JB or something major. But not from 4.1.2 to a different build of 4.1.2.
Flashing your phone with the stock FTF will not change your BL unlock allowed to YES.
If your phone is from Rogers like mine it is probably on Allowed unlock BL = NO
But it doesnt matter, all firmwares can be rooted and recovery can be installed so unless you want a custom kernel you want to tweak, there really isnt any point of unlocking the BL. Besides, its voids your warranty.

Great! Thank you for your help! I will try it out this weekend.
One more question about the Rogers phone and unlocking it with them.
Will the unlock BL allowed switch to yes? or does the unlock just enable me to switch
carriers?

BL unlock does not change - will still not be unlockable
Sim Unlock and BL Unlock are not the same.
I want to flash the FTF but want to make sure I'm doing the right file - Where do we get the newest Generic FTF that will work on the C6506 (Rogers) Variant?
BigStyle84 is right. Do not confuse unlocking your BL with SIM unlock.
SIM unlock allows you to use your phone with any carrier provided the baseband is compatible. Unlocking the bootloader allows you to flash the Kernel which isnt something I would recommend doing if your not comfortable with. You can still flash other ROM's via recovery if you are rooted.

Hyelton has a thread where you can download either the 395 or 434. The 253 is also in XDA somewhere, I can't remember from which thread I got it from...
Here is thread where the FTF for the 395 or 434 is for your C6506:

Looks like the latest 4.2.2 is getting released as we speak....

Might as well wait a few days for this one to get released and update to it or flash it once the FTF gets leaked for the C6506

Are all r800i unlockable?

So I want to buy an r800i, I can't post links yet.
But if you go on ebay and find "SONY ERICSSON XPERIA PLAY R800I - BLACK (UNLOCKED) SMARTPHONE"
I currently have an r800at which is manufactured 12W25 which is way too late for the bootloader to be unlocked unfortunately. It is sim unlocked though, but I don't have bootloader access.
So if I buy that device, will the bootloader be able to be unlocked? It's marketed as an r800i

yes the bootloader can be unlocked.. for all r800i models.. and rooted too.. ofcourse other models can be..
but tbh.. I broke my r800i.. my cousin had a r800at .. but my sim worked in it although I don't stay in USA.. so I installed r800i firmware on top of that and viola.. everything works as r800i.. bootloader unlocked and I am running Android Lollipop 5.1.1 atm.. I suggest u mess with ur current phone.. rather than go for a new one.

Can't because the manufacturing date is too new. Omnious and setool don't support it.
