[Q] Altering a rom? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Can a rom be altered to include a notification setting for "sent mail", or does this feature have to be built in to the original (stock) phone settings?
P.S. I'm not talking about GoSMS, or any other app, but something that's built into the settings. Thank you for any answer.

What do you mean for sent mail? Like whenever you send an email it plays a notification sound? I don't see why you would even want this as you would know its being sent by hitting the send button, but yes it is possible I guess.

Voicemail notification?

Hey,
I get quite a few voicemails every day & I had the same trouble with my HD2... that I have to call the voicemail number (901) in order to find out if any have been left for me...
This is the one (and only) thing I really miss from my iphone... it would just display notifications like sms/email to let you know you had a voicemail, who it was from and you could play it/delete it straight from the screen.
The only thing I'm interested in is notification - am happy to manage from calling 901... but would really like something to let me know
Any app for this?
EDIT: Note... I don't mean these visual voicemail things I've seen on the app store where you have to re-direct to another server and they convert it to text for you... cheers
Try Hullomail. It's free. When you get a missed call, you get an email and a notification from the app. Also will email you your voicemail or you can do it through the apps UI. It's great
Just downloaded this & very much like the look of it but I'm on Virgin UK, the settings don't include this o I tried T Mobile but just keep getting an invalid mmi message. Any advice? Cheers...

But...when you say you could see it on the screen and play/delete it right from there, that is EXACTLY what you're asking for. The conversion to text is a secondary feature to services like Ribbit.

Should have ellabourated more... it's the idea of my voicemails going to a random 3rd party i don't like the idea of
Their main "selling" point seems to be these (pointless as far as i can tell) voice->text conversions :S

Phone sending entire inbox.

hey I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this yet, as I can't find any info about this in any forum so far:
Whenever I flash a rom, this issue doesn't show up right away, but it always does, regardless of phone or build. Currently every sms message I send is stuck in a "sending" status on my device. The recipient always gets the message, but my phone thinks that it hasn't been sent. So, whenever I reboot my phone, if I haven't cleared all of my threads, my phone will resend every sent message on my phone. If I flash the same rom on top of itself, it goes away for a few more days, but it always comes back. Again, this is regardless of rom and even phone (D1, Eris, fascinate, DX, and incredible). Does anyone know what could be causing this? At the very least if someone could direct me to the property place to ask this question, I'd appreciate it.

What email account is this happening with?
If its over many phones it could be a problem with the towers around you, try calling verizon about it but get to the to the top of tech support

It's not an email account, it's sms.

I don't think it's a tower issue. When I send a message, in handcent there is s spinning wheel next to the message until the phone registers the message as "sent". this happens in it's own way across any and all sms apps on my phone. If I create and send the message in the stock messages app, it will show as sending in my other app and vice-versa. For the record, I have tried this with handcent, chomp sms and go sms.

This definitely sounds like a network issue. Have you tried sending a sms with a "dumb phone" and see if you have the same problem?

No, I haven't. I'll try it tonight when I get home from work. I sent a text to myself last night to test, and while it got to me immediately, it sent itself again 4 hours later. I'm not sure if that means anything significant or not but I'll try using another phone tonight.

This was a known issue with some phones and some SMS/MMS clients. Handcent implemented a fix, not sure about other clients. See this post in android forums for implementing the fix: http://androidforums.com/android-ap...on-without-resending-old-sms.html#post2136469

Thanks for this info!! I'm currently trying go sms again jaded on a reply in that thread, which seems to be working. I want to try the handcent fix, but I don't feel like taking the time to see how well consistently it works and risk text bombing people again. Hopefully some better themes start popping up

As far as on the phone, I don't think you can. If you want to see where your texts have been doing/sent to whom, call up sprint, and request a sopena [can't spell the word for my life], but its a log of your texts, and they'll mail it to you.

It may have been from like a backup app.
As far as I know, I don't know a way to double back to see where it was actually sent to.
You can install handcent, open the app, click menu, then try delivery report; it shows the message, and if you tap it, it'll show you the time and to the person/number.

Thanks for the help!

Way to tell if an SMS was sent to multiple people?

Over the New Years weekend I got a text from a friend saying something like "Hope everyone has a safe New Years!". From the message it was obvious that it was sent to more than one person. I just happened to be with another friend who also received the same text. He has a Droid 3 and in his Messaging app the Send button changes to Send to All or something of that nature. Is there a way to easily tell if a message has been sent to multiple recipients without looking at the message info? I feel like this would be a huge help considering that replying to those sends a text to everyone who got the initial message. Hope that was clear.
Long press the message and put view details

Right I get that. But sometimes a message can seem like it only was sent to you, but then after you reply you find out that it indeed was not. I was hoping for an obvious way to tell, like on the Droid 3 messaging app changing the send button to say send to all.

Unless I'm mistaken, that Send to All is a Motoblur specific feature. I don't think by default that SMS messages sent to multiple recipients automatically reply to all recipients. MMS messages might, but not SMS.
I may have to test it later. I'm fairly certain the replies go only to the sender, though.

I figured that was specific to Motoblur. I like that feature though. Makes it really simple knowing if you received a mass text. I was hoping to find an app or ROM that has this feature as well.

Galaxy S5 texts on the Moto 360

I can't appear to directly reply to text messages on the watch for some reason ? I have the option (reply or send to phone) but when I choose reply, all that happens is a green check mark comes up and it doesn't do anything.
Anyone else have this or know what I'm doing wrong?

I have the same issue with the stock messaging app as well. I really want to avoid connecting Hangouts and Texting.. the people I talk to do not overlap at ALL.

Well even with Hangouts set for sms on my Moto X, the watch sends texts using the "Messaging" app. And, touching that app in recent apps sends the message again and again.
Also, sending a text to a number sends it to some inexplicably chosen contact. If they can't get it right with their own phone, I sure others will have problems as well. I have returned mine and will try again next year.
I have exactly the same problem. Did you get that one sorted? Works perfect when voice replying to email but sms with OS messaging software doesn't work.
Any Progress?

you can try textra, hello sms, or some other sms apps.. i recall trying those and i believe they work..
New Google messenger works great
