[Q] T989 Charging Port Flex Cable? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Long story short, the charging port on my S2 is broken and I'm unable to charge my phone. Does anyone know of the charge port assembly from i777 or the i900 will work?
Thanks,
Mike

hey Mike,
Unfortunately, the charge port on the t989 is soldered directly to the motherboard, so it would have to removed and replaced via precarious (at least in my fumbling fingers) wicking/drilling/reattaching. maybe there's a shop in yr vicinity that offers the service?
take care
bryan

Find one that says it is designed for the T999 specifically. Odds are a i777 or whatever would work but don't risk it. Get a brand new port assembly and have a pro do it. Don't pay more than $30-35 for it and check mobile tech videos or similar online if a local isn't available or doesn't have any reputation for quality work.
The job is simple but painstaking, so make sure it only needs to happen once.

[Q] sim connector broken

hi guys
i have a big problem...my nexus doesnt recognise my sim anymore.
i have opened it and i can see that one of the 3 sim connector is broken.
do you know a online shop where i can find a replacement for the sim slot ?
or do you know a workaround ?
thx
Same EXACT issue here.. are these pins really fragile or what??
Also, a quick update. I brought this to a store in NY and they said that on each of the 3 rows, that make contact with the SIM, there are 2 pins that make contact. If both are broken (like in my case), they need to replace the whole SIM port because they can't solder the lower pin as the heat will do damage. If it's only the top (longer copper looking pin), than they may be able to fix it.
I am going to get another opinion this Friday and I'll update here. Otherwise, I am seeing if Samsung UK can send me parts or give me a quote to send the phone in for service, but it might not be worth all the money and may have to sell it.
Let me know how you make out if you have any updates!
Thanks!~
Sim connector/tray part
I have the same problem with my Galaxy Nexus...not too sure if the nexus s uses the same part but I ordered from a site called tanstartrade (.ca) and the connector looks similar to what is on the Galaxy Nexus.
have you guys found any resolution to this? broke a pin off with the help of a sim adapter
You checked "yes this is a question"

shipped my phone to a member's (kawgirlval69) repair store: http://hasslefreecellphonerepair.com/
will keep you guys posted
So did they fix it for you? I have a broken pin as well.
I'm curious how you are all breaking pins. I have swapped sim cards lots of times (I was testing three carriers at one point) and I was decently rough in doing so. All my sims were normal size sims. Were those of you with broken pins wedging micro sims or using adapters?

Bingo Though in my case, I broke it trying to get it back OUT. I just stupidly assumed that the phone company would send me the proper-sized sim when I told them which phone I had, so I tried to put it in the only way it looked like it would fit. Then again, I am about as mechanically inclined as a monkey, and tend to break things easily
Yeah go with RussianBear's suggestion and mail it to FL.
Im not affiliated with them and havent tried them but I guess they charge around $50 to fix. Locally you might find a place to fix it as well. GL in getting it fixed .
If its a google play store model, Samsung USA should fix it for you free of charge.

Same thing here. Just got the nexus and still had the stupid micro Sim adapter from one s... Needless to say,i was pissed. The seller turned out to be a great guy though, helped me out a bit.
They did charge me about 50, but i didn't have to pay for return shipping (priority). I'll recommend this shop to anyone from now on not affiliated with them in any way, except for them doing a great repair job lol

Do you really think they will? I sent a message to Google, who referred me to Samsung for warranty support:
(Forum won't let me post link)
On that site, it says:
If your Device is defective through no fault of your own, you have up to fourteen (14) days from the date the Device is delivered (the "Advanced Replacement Period") to contact Samsung customer care at (855) 392-6398 regarding a replacement Device under the Samsung Advanced Replacement Process.
Since this was obviously my fault, and I'm not going to lie to them and tell them it just showed up this way, I didn't even bother to call and ask.
Just an update... I sent my phone off to the Hassle Free repair place. Apparently, they have one tech (a female) who is the only one that can do these repairs, and they claim she has been sick in bed for over a week now. They've been very responsive to inquiries, so I'm hoping they'll get it fixed eventually.
Will let ya'll know how it ends up.

About 12 days after I sent the phone in, I got a call from Crystal using my phone, saying they had fixed the phone, and apologizing profusely for the delay. After I made the Paypal payment, they sent it off the very next day. Phone arrived 2 days later... SIM card slot looks brand new, and phone works great
So I'd definitely recommend them, but I'd also check in advance if you're in a hurry, and make sure the repair person isn't on vacation or something, since there seems to be only one of her.
thanks for the good feedback guys... we really appreciate your business and feedback as we strive to give you the best repair we can give...
@worknman.. thank you for your patience, we actually had a family emergency and had gone to ohio for a few months to help out and were doing the repairs there. not being used to the weather i came down with a horrible case of sinusitis and really was bedridden for a bit over a week. again i do thank you for your patience and i hope you were more than satisfied.
as for our shop we do have 2 techs but only one that is capable of doing board level soldering properly. i take great pride in doing a perfect job so if theres a chance to keep the warranty intact, my repair will go unnoticed.(worked and was trained by samsung so i know how they solder so its easy for me to replicate) we have 25 years total repair experience and we are guaranteed to not be a "you tube" shop where we watch a video and think we know everything.... i was trained by samsung, motorola, nokia, audiovox...
bottom line is we do things right the first time.... hope to help anyone in need.... i promise you wont be disapointed...

Samsung Warranty Fail

I have tolerated the charge cable coming out of my phone since day 1 with my Note2. I call to ask for a new cable and I am told to send my cable and charger to Samsung. After their technicians evaluate for defects, a new charger and cable will be sent out. So, what you're telling me is that I won't be able to use my $700 phone and $100/month service or communicate with friends and family until you figure out what you did wrong and send the replacement???---> Supervisor (same Filipino voice) directs me to Section 13, page 383 of the owner's manual. No cc option to send beforehand and charge in case I don't return the defect. So sorry for your inconvenience. You know that ain't right.
I think this is how it always worked as far as warranty goes. So, what do you think they should have done?

My experience with T-Mobile/HTC/Asurion/Motorola has been simply send a replacement or send and if we do not receive a replacement we will Bill your cc.
my usb cables always go bad. i just go buy a replacement and be done with it. its not worth any delay or warranty replacement when they cost less than $20 at any store.

You can't spend $15 on a charger to use your $700 phone and $100/month service and communicate with friends and family? Do you really need someone to tell you that it is OK to go buy your own damned charger instead of crying about how the world is screwing you? How much coddling do you require before you take matters into your own hands and solve a problem like an adult?
Sorry if I seem crass, but seriously, did the thought never cross your mind to just get another charger? And, why do you feel the need to point out the perceived race of the technicians at Samsung? Would it matter if the voice was Filipino or Indian or White? Do you think that has anything to do with your charger or the validity of your concerns?
If it were me I would just use one of the chargers from the other five phones I own.

...how is this a warranty fail? Seems they are doing what they stated they would do. And surely you have to have another micro usb laying around until you get the replacement.

They want the ac adapter too. But to answer your question and shut down all the negative rich people in here, I do have a backup charger. In fact I have 3-4 ac adapters and probably 3 cables from my HD2 and S2, in addition to the white on white pair that came with my white Note2. They have different varying mah output and are not Samsung oem(voids warranty, for those that gave that solution...I gave the S2 to the wife(who leaves her charger at work, often)...I take a charger to college and leave one at home. Charging or paying for a charger is not the issue, or the point. The point is service. You have lower expectations and bigger pockets than someone of the people that visit this thread. What you eat won't make me run to the restroom. My expectations are higher, in that: I expect a company to fix something that is defective, I expect them to offer more than one possible solution as experience has shown with other companies within the industry(T-Mobile,Motorola,HTC,Asurion), I expect them to be accomodating to continue to earn my business. People get on like I asked for a new Galaxy Note2. Pay this thread no mind then. This thread is for like-minded individuals with expectations and little disposable income. This thread is for people who like options, consistency, and quality workmanship from suppliers. I was trying to bring awareness and generate constructive conversation. If you wish to brag how many chargers you have and how $1000 to me is like a $1 to you I've got a cookie for you. First enable cookies in your browser. Exit this thread. I'm sensitive to your question about the voice. My point was that I did not think that I was genuinely transferred to a supervisor and the voices were distictively alike. In addition, I was implying that the place handling my concern was not Korean, or American. The Samsung Return Center for the United States is about 15 minutes MAX from where I live. I grew up less than 10 blocks from there. The service I was being provided by phone was too far removed from Samsung Korea or the Samsung Return Center America. The rep told me she was in the middle of the Pacific.

Obvious troll fail, where do I get two minutes of my life back?
I think that this post is valid for the simple fact that I have had the same problems with my OEM cable coming out of the phone so easily and sometimes it won't even charge the Damn thing. It's ashame when my old HTC cable fits better in my Note 2 than the cable that came with it! I don't have a problem using a different came to charge, but I do flash Roms using Odin, and I have found that Odin only works with the OEM cable! So there is obviously a difference in these usb cables. It is a problem, especially for me. If just for flashing alone. I have my Htc cable in right now and it fits perfectly. No falling out. I think we should stop throwing insults and really see that there is a problem. I am completely happy with having the best phone ever created, but it's a nagging thorn in my side when the freaking cable it came with sucks.
I think Samsung should send all registered owners of Note II a free replacement USB cable. The stock cable sucks big time.

I had the problem with the cable sliding out very very easily, got a replacement phone and cable, and while the problem is there still, it's not as terrible.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
I myself had issues with the cable/adapter so I sent both of them in with return label they provided me with, in the mean time I used my old 1A charger. The whole return and shipping back the replacement took less than a week, didn't even experience any inconvenience. When they say "technicians has to evaluate the defect", it doesn't mean they will hold on to your defective item and can't ship the replacement till they figure it out. They will ship the replacement as soon as they receive the defect.
Yes, I do think they should send the replacement first and have CC option, but this is their warranty policy and you complaining here posting "Samsung Warranty Fail" won't change anything or get you a new cable/adapter anytime soon....
This gave me a good laugh thank you. We all have the same cable. It works great when u not using the phone. Meaning just plug it in and walk away from it. If u wanna use it while u charge it u need a better cable to lock in to the micro usb port. It has nothing to do with getting the charger replaced. They not gonna do it. If by some chance u do get it replaced it will be by the same junk u been using.

[Q] Riff Box and correct jib for Sprint Samsung SPH-L710?

I have a hard bricked Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710). My fault, fortunately it was the spare phone after a recent upgrade.
So I could send it to Texas or find a local person about an hour away with a Riff box and try that.
BUT I am thinking about getting a Riff Box myself and documenting the experience.
That way if I hard brick... again I can fix without sending to someone else to do JTAG and I can post it also.
Here comes the question. From what I read, I will either have to solder or jury rig or buy a 'JIG' to connect the cable
to a chip on the motherboard. Does anyone know for sure which 'Jig" would go to the 'SPRINT' version of the S3?
I also read posts saying the 'Polish' jigs are better...
But again which jig will work with the sprint U.S.A. version of S3?
(sorry can not post URL examples do to new to forums)
If no one on the forums has done this for the sprint S3 then this may be something that should be done and posted for others to read.
Jtag no longer necessary.
All you need is an SD card. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43724690 This is proven to work, pioneered here for Sprint S3 and has worked on T-Mobile and Verizon as well.

tried the SD did not work with this brick.
I appreciate the cross reference, I did search forums before posting and I already tried the SD card, used a level 10 16gig, maybe I should have tried a 32gig card... but I did try that. I do know unix and I prefer openbsd for gateways, and freebsd for servers over linux.
BTW I did get a reply from the company FONEFUNSHOP LTD in UK, concerning the "Samsung i747 / i747M / T999 / T999v (aka. Galaxy S3) JTAG Jig (+ 1 X 12 Pin Molex Port) " and the response was:
--not sure as we dont see that model over here in the UK, i doubt it, so i will say no.
So -bump- if no one knows, I could try posting with the riff box support forum as a presales question... They do list the SPH-L710 as a supported phone... but what jig?

Fingers crossed... Just ordered a Riff Box from ipmart... l paid for UPS shipping with insurance from ipmart and used paypal to give me some protection but it was less than $150, which is a good price if I get it. I did use a vendor listed on the riffbox.org site so I should be supported according to their site.
I never did get a good answer on what jig. To try something I ordered the multi-com jig off an ebay seller in California for a JTAG Samsung I747/I747M/T999/T999V (Galaxy S3) but I have no assurance that will work on a SPH-L710 because the seller did not know either.

I ordered the RIFF box on a Friday and got it the following Thursday. Faster than I was ready to use... So IPmart is okay!
I ebay ordered the jig for the T999 mentioned afore and bad news... while it looks like the correct connector on the jig... the way the jig is built it will not fit the phone it appears. The cable pins are in the way, if the cable pins had been on the other side maybe.
As to your question. The software with the riff box has a "clues" section as part of the resurrection that gets downloaded... and it explains exactly where to solder along with a photograph of motherboard and pin numbers. The clues section is must read and may also include tricks. Since you need the riffbox and the software to do this I will not repeat the information here in respect to the manufacturer.
I may give up on trying to find jig and just solder.

This may be the way to go to avoid soldering, but I don't really want to put out another $70 and wait another couple weeks for another thing from China. Google "JPIN JTAG Molex Flex cable for Samsung LG without soldering support Riff Box"

Not sure if they will. Maybe. I havent tried my cables, I did use the Orange brand, them suckers are hard to pull out
You can try to show them it's defective you may be better off contacting Samsung. I contacted them via text chat or call for my note 3 awhile ago over chargers. They ended up giving me a bunch for free due to me waiting so long ect. Just remember be nice patient and it will work out, if not hang up until you get a rep that is nice and will help you.

My guess is you could buy the exact part for your tablet. I know I can for my Note 10.1. Then there's this:

Thank you very much i appreciate your suggestion. I guess my question was asked to avoid buying the part and since I have numerous Galaxy products (already apart or used for parts) I was hoping to save $$ but overall prolly should just get the part lol. Thanks so much imma look into it now
