Received my Huawei Ascend Mate - Huawei Ascend P6, Mate

Just received this evening. Biggest best phone ever. Just ranking under the note 2. Good quality. Fast. Works on tmobile 3g.

Totally thought that the phone was limited to internal memory for apps. Not really, you cant switch between your sd or internal memory as default storage.

22 hours on battery and 5 hours screen on time, I still have 50% left of battery.. this phone is not failing my expectations..

Yes! I just bought this phone too. I bought it Wednesday night after e-mailing back and forth with the seller in China, and I was able to pay $5 extra on top of the $20 shipping (so $25 total) to get the phone, case, and screen protector to me by this Friday! (so essentially overnight shipping.) I'm so glad I'm going to have it by this weekend.
I absolutely can't wait to get this phone! I can't wait to see peoples reaction when they see my phablet!
So Google Contacts and Calendar events doing sync? Damn!! I rely on Google's sync options immensely! So I guess I'll just have to enter in all my contacts manually, and then download an app from the Play Store that will backup contacts automatically to the SD card.
I too bought a 64GB sd card, so I will have plenty of space.

You have the option to switch your internal memory for your sd memory as internal. You are able to install Google stuff after you rooted, but not sync. I had to transfer my contacts via Bluetooth from my previous phone. This phone is really amazing and at a great price.I got my phone after five days due to weekend delay.should have ordered my case with it since no body here sells anything for it. =/

Yeah, the seller is rooting it and installing Play for me beforehand.
I did not know the sync doesn't work :-/ that really stinks.

I mean, there could be someway,I just needed that for my contacts. You might be able to find a fix somewhere.

Something such as this should work: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.soocial&hl=en
Sync the contacts on my Note II, then switch to the Ascend Mate and I can download that app and sync the contacts to my phone. I will have to try and find calendar sync. I use calendar for appointments, birthday reminders, etc.

Voila!
For contact, simply install GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk, then you get it in the sync menu.
The latest version is posted on adroidfilehost.com.

Cant belive that you rarely find stuff for / about the Mate, as for me its the only current real N7100 competitor in the market.
Is MT1-U06 the internal / Huawei product code?
Is there any knowledge about custom roms in the making? MIUI? CM?
Root routines / manuals?
Does anybody know if it will take a 64GB SanDisk without problems?
Did anybody already try to remove the backover / battery? Any warrenty labels preventing to do so?
I've just ordered one to test it parallel to my Note 2, but i fear that a massive lack of community interest & support will be the real and main con.

MT1-U06 is Huawei's model #.
There's no custom ROMs for this phone, no ClockWorkMod Recovery (probably won't be).
There is root, and it's fairly easy: http://androidforums.com/ascend-mate-all-things-root/707294-huawei-ascend-mate-root-guide.html
Mine takes 64GB just fine. Although I did have the SD card formatted to Fat32. Still reads it just fine.
No, you cannot remove the back cover. It's a solid phone and it would be very difficult to start prying things apart on this phone.
I love this phone though, it's a solid phone. I only wish Huawei would bring it to the U.S. so we could get some ROMs and ClockWorkMod installed

I love this phone too, big screen, fast, but low development here is a no go. Plus Huawei is saying that they don't want business here in the USA anymore. I might ditch this and go with the s4.

working great on my SGS
i thought they are still in beta stage?
This app is a must if it's as good as has been made out, all I would then be interested to know would be data usage charges etc.
Thank you for posting this.
Fantastic! Been waiting for this for a long time!
I can't find it in the Market on my phone. I can see it on the web, but it won't install. Wierd.
free call and texts
Description
Viber - Be Free to Communicate. Call and text anyone, anywhere.
Viber is an Android* and iPhone application that lets you make free phone calls and send free text messages to other users that have Viber installed. When you use Viber, your phone calls to any other Viber user are free, and the sound quality is much better than a regular call. You can call any Viber user, anywhere in the world, for free and now also text them. All Viber features are 100% FREE and do not require any additional “in application” purchase.
Read our privacy policy here: http://www.viber.com/privacy
******************************************************
WHY USE VIBER VS. OTHER VOIP (VOICE OVER IP) SOLUTIONS
******************************************************
* COMPLETELY FREE AND WITH NO ADS: Viber and all Viber features are absolutely free and do not require any additional “in application” purchase. Once you and your friends install the free Viber application, you can use it to talk and also text as much as you want. Just makes sure all your friends get Viber! All you need is an Internet connection: 3G or Wi-Fi where available. On top of that, Viber doesn’t contain any annoying ads.
* NO INTERNATIONAL CHARGES: It doesn’t matter where you or your friends are, be it on the same network or in a totally different country. You can talk for as much as you want, for free. Just make sure your friends have Viber too.
* NO USERNAMES, PASSWORDS OR REGISTRATION: You know your friend’s phone number, so why bother with yet another username and password? Viber uses your phone number as your “identity” and lets you make free Viber phone calls to any of your friends that have Viber – using THEIR phone number.
* NO NEED TO ADD BUDDIES: Unlike applications like Skype, Windows Live Messenger or Fring where you need to “add buddies” and have them approve you, Viber behaves just like a phone. Just like you don't need to “add” someone in order to call them, you don't need to add your friends in order to call them on Viber. If you know their phone number, then you know their Viber number, and you’re ready to go!
* DON’T KILL YOUR VIBER: To make sure you always get incoming calls/messages notifications, we strongly recommend you to keep Viber running in the background. This doesn't drain your battery or use up memory and improves your Viber experience.
* SOUND QUALITY: Viber uses state of the art technology in order to make sure the sound quality you get is much better than GSM or a regular phone call.
* MUCH MORE COMING: We are hard at work bringing many more features to your Viber phone. More ringtones (and custom ones), wallpapers, location based services and more are all coming soon to Viber!

I also noticed that. And the funny thing is I saw the app in the Market before they've announced it! I'm even the first one to comment.
In the past few months I've been begging Viber to include me in their beta testers but to no avail.
Finally, my friends with iPhone can no longer say anything about my SGS not having those must have apps!
WhatsApp & Viber on my SGS! Sweeet!
no "exit" function (like skype before modded)
Seems a bit buggy at the moment. Big battery drain since installing and was only able to stop it running by stopping in battery use option in phone settings.
Re-started phone but froze on start-up with app running in background. Pulled battery, it restarted this time so i uninstalled it!

Just install it via the Android Market Web page like I did.
I Swyped this on my Galaxy S
So it only allows you to call other Viber users? Pretty pointless if it's the case.
well almost everyone today has an iphone or android device, so its not that pointless !!
besides free calls and texts is good, Although it needs an internet connection. but if you have mates like mine, who talk for freakin' ages, then this is a must !!
will save me money on my bill anyway

Working good on my SGS. Really good idea for an app.
Although I've had one FC and a curious thing.. When I rebooted my SGS, the app thought I've killed it with some kind of task killer.

Well there are gazillions of VoIP apps available... I don't see the advantage of this particular one. Especially since I would have to beg all my friends to install it before I can call them with it.
It also seem a lot less integrated than some others. Do we really need yet an other proprietary, non-standard, VoIP app?
Tanks for the news

Rooted and debloated but cannot add new contacts

Hey guys. As the title says I cannot add new contacts from texts I've received since debloating. Not sure which process is causing this issue. I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue.
Will see about posting the frozen processes later.
*edit* I can't add contacts period. When I select new contact the page is blank..

Quick n simple
I didn't realize until after I read this thread that I also disabled that function. Good advice Namuna. I think I may have it fixed. Hope OP gets it solved.
edit: Since we're on the topic of contacts and such... What exactly is the "AT&T address book"? Why can't I import my contacts from my SIM card without choosing AT&T address book or google services? Does this mean AT&T would then have all of my contacts?

I'm thinking this is their new service to keep your contacts for u in the case of emergency, just like wat sprint n verizon r doing since they do not have a sim card to save contacts to. Instead of having to save your contacts to a gmail account, which many "common" users might not have any idea dat it syncs with the phone, at&t provides the service of migrating the contacts to a new phone just by placing the sim in a new phone n activating it. This is what I assume though, might be totally incorrect. lol.
edit: Btw, I think if you freeze/delete AT&T address book, u also will not be able to add new contacts to the phone.
Yeah I followed some guy's list of things he froze/disabled and one of them was the WMsync... something rather. That is the AT&T Address Book and it didn't show up in the options to import from SIM. I've since enabled it and it's there again and I'm also able to add contacts.
I just thought it was weird that I can't save the contacts directly to the phone. Is the AT&T Address Book just like a cloud sync?

I guess you can say so about AT&T address book.
What do you mean save directly to the phone though? Won't you want it to sync to your Gmail acc directly so in case anything ever happens to the phone, you won't lose your contacts?

I understand how u feel about cloud servers at one point, I felt very insecure about having my information somewhere where other people with power can easily access them on a whim. But then I thought to myself, if someone really wants the info, with enough power they can get it as long as we are connected to the "network" aka the internet. We have to be totally void of connectivity to the internet to avoid having our info in other people's hands.
Reminds me of something I saw when I watched Battlestar Galactica; how Galactica had to be completely and utterly network-less in order to avoid any possibility of being hacked and accessed by the Cylons (Cybernatic Lifeform Node). The moment they networked their infrastructures, they immediately got hacked, and had to rely on firewalls to defend themselves lol. Just a side story it was a great series too

Any Idea?
You need copy these files in /system/apps
Another question about the cloud servers. Would you guys recommend the AT&T Address Book or the Google account thing? And why did you choose it?
I'm trying to download my contacts into the car Bluetooth, but it wont recognize any contacts. I'm guessing that's due to them not being saved to the phone.
I'm wondering if its something to do with rooting and debloating. I could swear it was working before that, but I can't figure out what I would have disabled to cause the problem.

using a nexus without google-account?

Hey guys,
i am using all my android phones for a while with all the gapps provided. i really like them, but there are some things that make me angry and really would like to get rid of them.
let me start with the contacts syncing.
contacts app is fine, especially the way u can attach pictures to your contacts, which will be displayed in nice looking hd quality when getting a call.
so far so good. lets sync with your google account. oh well... picutures really look bad now. and each time you sync with it... it will be bad again, no matter what
(i know, the problem is the googleservice itself. we cant do **** here)
but how to handle this? if there would be another way to safe my contacts in a easy way, i would like to hear it.
so first point: no need for contacts sync
next point is gallery. i dont need the sync for it. google does not need to know anything
next point, music app. its fine, but there is no need for me attach it to my google-acc
calendar is nice and will be used. but even with this, i do not need it on other devices.
last two points are the market and maps. here we get a problem
i do need both of them. is there a way to avoid using a google account?
this could be a workaround for ppl who dislike using a google account in future maybe... if it is even possible. i dont know right now
You can disable account-wide sync for all the apps that you've mentioned. Gallery is a little tricky especially if you are using G+ but it's possible. In fact, you can skip signing into a Google acocunt completely should give you a clue.
You will only have problems with the market. As far as I know, you have to have a google account to download apps from the google market. But you could always install 3rd markets like Amazon appstore, Slideme and GetJar, off the top of my head.
the biggest problem i have is the contacts.
is there a way to easy backup them and restore, maybe when switching roms or whatever?
some for my calendar. how to restore it without signing in?
ps: i am not using g+
pps: if someone would know if there is a data folder or whatever, where the contents of my contacts and sms and calendar are saved, that would be enogth for me.
coz then i could just cut it off there and place it in my new roms
Your problem with contacts is bad picture quality..? Then don't put pictures on your contacts.. Google isn't looking at your pictures either. If you want to use the market you need a Google account. None of the information is stored on your phone so there is no folder on your phone that will let you back these up.

You can completely disable all syncing to your Google account if you want, but you're really just making it harder on yourself than it needs to be.
I realize there are some little niggles that are annoying about how its working right now, but I think its a bigger hassle to completely turn it off and do it all manually with a mishmash of other services.
if there would be a solution to have high quality contact pictures, i would use it. no problem with it
but it seems really ugly. dont you have that ****?
just as an example i found on the internet...

this is what any contact picture looks like after syncing my contacts.

there must be any workaround for this problem...?!?

You just said it yourself.. don't sync your contacts. You aren't forced to sync anything. If you get pictures from Facebook there is an app called Haxsync that will give you high quality pictures.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
thats the point, where to get my contacts if not syncing when switching the roms?
and no, i dont use any social network
STOP
We are forced to sync! Ok one can avoid it if you now what options to be checked and which not. But in first place everything is synced to somewhere. You have to some kind of "pro" to avoid it completly
I had all my contacts accidently synced to google after android "stole" my thunderbird contacts claimed that they have to be googlemail.com contacts and then after an accidently removal of an small hook evrythink went to google.
The best was that my thunderbird then all contacs removed as well, because my phone said "all contacts in the homeaccount have been deleted"
###Just to have my anger put at least somewhere###
To come back to the orginal poster:
Now it works all perfectly well with birdiesync (i read somewhere but havent tried thta MyPhoneExplorer would to the trick as well), i have only an google account for market access reasons. I dont use gmail (as google reads all mails in order have the right advertisement for me) but k9. Just deactivate syncing under settings.
But i cant so far confirm that the contact pics arent downsized. Because i dont really care...

[Q] Stolen Galaxy Note 2

So i had my galaxy note 2 stolen from me right out of my bag as i was playing basketball at the gym this weekend. Sucks im mad but whatever life goes on. i had no password on it but already called ordered new one had imei blocked ect. I just had one question. If they block the imei does that mean that the person just cant use the phone for calling texting purposes or like the phone wont work at all. Can they still access my apps thru wifi or something, i had soo much info on there and im just trying to think if i need to change passwords which i already changed my gmail but for all my apps which would be a major hassle. ughhhhh lesson learned i will never leave my stuff where it has the chance of being stolen. people are shady but ill let karma take care of them. and from now on i will always put a password on my phone. i think all those mobile security find ur phone apps are useless too...as soon as i found out it was gone i had my friend call, phone was already off (smart) so that was basically game over. f*$k.
I'm glad you can get a new one. Maybe if you act as if nothing happened and keep an eye on people who seem to be curious as to what you are using now. Maybe you will find out who took it in time. They might give themselves away. Are there any security cameras around where it went missing?
If you research some of those security apps, I think they might be better than you think. Phoning the device is not so smart in my opinion. I suspect some of those security apps have more subtle options to track it undetected.
Maybe you can pretend that you have the Galaxy Note 3 soon. Then put a hand grenade in your bag at the gym. (or maybe just a mousetrap.)
Or do what banks do and place a dye pack which explodes when the bag is opened. It should be easy to spot them then.
Enjoy your newer version.
I believe they will still be able to use data with wifi. Won't be able to text or call or data with any sim card though... Sux, sorry that happened.

I worked for Tmobile for quite some time. They can definitely still access your data over wifi. Change all of your passwords.

Sorry that that happened to you. on the topic of security what's the best way to secure yourself if your phone is lost can't they root something and unlock it is there secure way I know I put my pictures zips what password on it on the SD card. Any thoughts on full security instead of just the PIN pad lock screen

yea i guess ill definitely start using a password as annoying as it is to unlock everytime i need to use it. But at least if it ever happened again nobody would have access to my files. I heard about some security app that if u input the wrong password the front camera takes a picture and uploads it to dropbox? anyone ever heard of that. guess im gonna have to change all my passwords as well. wish i could remote wipe it. o well u live and u learn i guess.
Cerberus do this. Can protect your phone after lost, posibility can help to got it back.

Some apps have a few interesting options. You can check out a few examples to try here.

Thanks. I'll add it to my page. :good:
Cerberus is amazing.
You can:
Make the phone sound an alarm remotely, lock the phone with a password. Display a message on the screen. Track the phone. Type a message and make the phone read it via speakerphone. Remote wipe sd card. Remote take a picture, video or audio recording from either camera.

I just got Cerberus, last night took off my sim card to test it on my cousin's phone, turn my note on without sim, suddenly I got email from Cerberus, saying that my phone is activated without unauthorized sim, complete with tracking, pin pointed to my EXACT adress .. Impressive.
Yea Cerberus rocks and it works really well and it is cheap. So if you value your data, that would be the first thing I would install. It works better if you have your phone rooted to use it but can be used either way.
I prefer avast
It data wipes
Lost gps tracks
Displays stolen message on lock toggle
Siren
Ect
All written to root dir to survive a system flash
So if u steal my phone, flash a new rom
I can still activate these features, lock u out, track u, and/or data wipe the device

Google talk is now Hangout

Did anyone else get this update is yet?
iTzAmazed on note 2
I haven't downloaded it. When I check through on my desktop, on the Android Market website, it shows Hangouts (replaces Talk) as incompitable with the GN2, or at least the Sprint variant.

Yes, just updated. Signed out and revoked access via my firewall just like with Talk.

If you're using dpi mods, the Hangouts app won't work. As of yet tablets aren't supported.
I'm on Sprint (Note 2, SynergyROM) and my Talk updated automatically not long after release.

If it ever happens. As of now Hangouts is not even close to feature parity with Talk.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
Still can't get it to sign in. It's telling me it can't reach Google.
Sent from my Sprint Note 2.
Im not touch of a tech but maybe clear data and force stop it then try going back into app.

Being rooted, I deleted Talk and then installed Hangouts. It works for a short time and then I start seeing a message that says it can't reach Google. Not sure what that's about. I also kept getting a Talk and Hangouts notification every time I got a message and I wasn't allowed to clear the Talk one.
In other news, I manually placed it on my Note 10.1 and it has worked flawlessly...
Still no update available for my phone. Hopefully today

Having played with Hangouts...
You're better off with Talk and G+. Hangouts doesn't even have online/busy/not-online status, which has been a fundamental piece of online chat since....I dunno....AOL AIM?
I played with the "update for all of 30 minutes before I reflashed my ROM. Hangouts is currently not even a feature-complete AIM replacement. It is pretty, but that is about the only thing it has going for it over what it is supposed to replace.

If the contacts picture is faded then they're not online, if it's clear then they're online, I prefer this much better than a green dot over my contacts picture! Welcome to 2013

What is the difference between online (green in Talk) and offline (gray), busy/do-not-disturb (red) or away (yellow)?
What is when one does not have any picture?
How do I see the list of my Talk-/Hangout-capable contacts? I have about 10 such persons in Google Talk, but suddenly 20 more in the Hangouts list.
Sorry guys but it's really crap.
I've deinstalled it.

You're calling it crap without bothering to trying to learn the app?...if they weren't capable of chatting I'm sure they wouldn't be on the list

WRONG!
Some of them only use google account to activate the android phone and to use the app (play) store, they do not use GMail nor Talk or Hangups. At least one is only using iPhone and iMac. I used to talk to him once. He never starts Talk or Hangups since them. They are all on the long long list... Why?? How do I remove them easily?
And: how do I signalize that I am busy and may not be disturbed ("busy" = red)? How can I see that someone is away (Android phone online but screen is off: yellow/orange)?
Sorry but is is crap, CRAP *CRAP*, not an upgrade!
Bask to Talk ... and happy again!
I have the update.. But didn't take it.. I like my inverted talk better

I'm in the camp that says it's the biggest piece of crap google has put out in a long time. While I think the name itself is lame as hell. My main issues in order are...
1. All of your contacts are added whether you want them there or not. Face it, I don't want every contact in my address book in my hangout. There is no way to remove the unwanted contacts from the list without blocking them (which also blocks them from your google+. Now I have 200+ names in my hangout. Wheres that stupid sign that we can hang around google's neck.
2. I have 2 separate accounts one for just my family and the other for my xda friends. There is no real way to separate these accounts all the contacts for each are merged together. Again, where's that sign?
3. While it does show when you are online or offline it doesn't give you to option of being away or busy.
There or more but these are my top 3.
It's really a huge step backward from talk.
