hey a month or two ago i read an article about a guy putting his own bluetooth chip into the kindle fire and then stealing power from other parts and know cant find the article again wondering if any one had read and could post either the link to or a way to do that. if you can i will try to test it out?

Kindle Fire running KANG CM9
New developer, working on my own custom rom
I have bricked my Kindle Fire I think. I have only just spotted the "read this before you do anything to prevent bricking kindle fire permanetly" thread in general.
I have run the utility then installed the drivers. Then connected my kindle fire to my PC using a factory cable. I boot the kindle and it went into fast boot mode. I then ran option 2 on the kindle fire utility 0.9.6 - install permanent root with super user. Some text went across the window on the PC then it said it was rebooting the kindle.
I waited 10 minutes but nothing happened so I disconnected the fire from the cable.
Now it wont even power on. I have tried the power button for 20 seconds and that doesn't help.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it a dead loss!

Yes I do.
try holding the power boutton down for 30 seconds and let go and try to power on this dies a power reset also i just rooted my tablet tonight it is so awesome i luv it and i used the same utility

These suggestions will likely not work. Your symptoms are typical of modifying a 2nd generation device.

That is if it is in fact a second gen. device.
Do you remember the version of os on the kindle??? If it was over 6.3 then it most definatly was a 2nd gen if you don't have that info then do you know when the kindle was originally purchased? ?? 2nd gen kindle fires were not released until october of 2012 so if it was originally bought from amazon after that date chances are its a 2nd gen fire and although they can be rooted custom recovery and roms are a bit sketchy at this time as the bootloaders are locked tighter than fort knox

After trying to root, my Kindle Fire HD 8.9 shows up as "OMAP4470 USB Device on Windows. Screen is black. May have damaged bootloader. Think I may have used a file intended for an older version Kindle. Can't get fastboot. Factory cable does not work with this device.
The device ID shows up as:
USB\VID_0451&PID_D012&REV_0000
USB\VID_0451&PID_D012
Screen Capture attached:
OMAP4470 is the TI processor used in this device. Anyboody care to comment/help?

I'm far from an expert, but I don't think there's much you can do. No one has the drivers for that omap device. See if you can send it back to amazon. I dont think they can verify for sure that you voided your warranty.
BTW, there's a chance I'm totally wrong.

I had a brick as well and they told me they would replace it. I don't think it's the right thing to do, however, so I didn't accept.
Same here. Not fair to ask Amazon to replace it. I think I may have found something to try using linux/usb. I will post results after I try it.

Open the device manager before you plug the kindle in, if you see a jem, otter, or Tate device that appears for an instant, you are in luck, if it says omap440, you either need to send it in to amazon or if they won't accept, you can send it to @kurohyou and see if he can fix it. Before you think its hard-bricked there are other ways to know for sure if it is one so don't freak out if u can't see any device in the device manager when it connects and disconnects.

Thanks for the reply. I understand omap is the processor amazon uses, so there's that. Can't send to Amazon. No funds to pay for repair. I found something here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430038 that I think I might try. What do you think?
That doesn't work on the second gen devices, it requires a signed version of the xloader that only amazon has, the kf1 didn't require signatures, so it worked on them but not the second gen devices. If u want to have any shot at fixing it since you said amazon won't accept it back, I would recommend sending it to kurohyou, he has a hard brick fix method in the works for kf2's, that should also work on the kfhd's, but the layout is different and he has no kfhd's to work with. He has gotten his own kindle back to a soft brick state by flashing the boot loader from links while directly hooked up to his emmc. Anyways he is your best shot if it shows up as a omap440 device and won't even boot with the kindle logo at all.

When i connect the kindle, omap4470 appears for an instant in the device manager...
What can happen if i contact Amazon and only tell them the kindle crashed using it?
Or is there a thing i can do on my own?
I don't know if its better to lie or not when dealing with them but if it was supposed to be under warranty still and they haven't previously replaced it, they are sometimes lenient and will send u a replacement. If they won't then kurohyou is your best bet.
Just curious did you attempt to root it or something using kindle fire utility? I don't remember the rooting process on kf1's offhand because I haven't had to reroot my moms in forever, but I remember kfu being involved. Kindle fire utility would brick the device, just trying to figure out from curiosity how you bricked it.

I was under TWRP when i bricked the tab.
Unofficial CyanogenMod 10.2 was getting slowing down and i decide to erase the tab and reinstall it.
I still don't know why i've been to the root menu of TWRP, but sure i should'nt have been there... black screen!!

Yes, I did attempt to root it using kindle fire utility.Tried a few other things, too. Don't remember them all. I understand that the bootloader is locked on this device, and I needed to use a specific method. Don't recall what that is. Do you know exactly what needed to be done?
You could have either used binaries root method or kindle fire first aid's root option. Kffa is in the general section, and I don't remember offhand where binaries root is, I think its in one of the FAQ stickies in one of the forums around here.

So just to confirm, if I'm plugging in my Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and my computer is asking for OMAP4470 drivers, there's pretty much no hope for it, ie, it's hard bricked forever. Sad face.

Yes, that would be a definite hard brick. This may be fixable in the future but not at the moment, sorry.
I would be interested in bricked HD 8.9" with OMAP4470.
If any one is willing to sell it for a reasonable price and if possible is from UK let me know.
i think amazon RD guys or TI know how to fix it.
maybe by some driver or CMD words....

I have a Kindle Fire here that is bricked (loads/reloads "kindlefire" logo over and over and goes no further). I purchased a factory cable so that I can flash it back to it's original software. However, since this device is bricked and was given to me, I have no idea if this a 1st or 2nd generation device. Is there some way to tell the difference between the two while it is bricked so that I know what to flash it with? I've looked everywhere and can find only ways to tell the difference if the device is running properly. Thanks so much!

I would try the kindle fire unbrick utility for the first gen to see if that works if it does not it will not harm your device or try the kindle fire utility v0.9.9 to see if it detects the kindle fire being plugged in try the unbrick utility see if that works under kindle fire android development on the xda forums

before I start doing something that might permanently brick the device, what about something more simple like opening up the back? Does anyone know if there are obvious differences between 1st and 2nd gen? I've tried googling this and can never find an answer that doesn't involved running the device in some way, very frustrating.
I've tried researching this myself by simply watching YouTube videos and trying my best to make note of anything. The only thing I've found that I suspect might be different (but I'm still not sure) is the color of the battery connector on the mobo. White for 1st gen, black for 2nd gen. Can anyone confirm this and/or does anyone know of another obvious difference?

Update:
I believe I've answered my own question. After initially posting this, it occurred to me to simply look up replacement parts for 1st and 2nd gen and look for differences. I am correct about the color difference of the battery connector on the mobo, in addition, the 1st gen models also have a small white flex cable connector that is directly to the right of the battery cable connector (if you're viewing the device with the mobo at the top). This flex cable connector is completely absent on the 2nd gen models.
Posting this just to let everyone know I've solved the problem and also so that anyone else searching for a solution to this problem can have a definite answer.

If you want to be sure then put it into fastboot and run "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" and if it returns kindle its a first gen, if it reports Tate, otter2, or jem then its a 2nd gen device.

Hello i bought this one off ebay a few years back and it still looked brand new at box. it just turns on to Kindle Fire Logo screen then turns off when charger is plugged in only..
I was wondering if there is anyway to fix it. After a bit of googling looks like someone could have bricked it possibly trying to root it. Please if anyone could help before i finally trash it, thanks.
