Yes thats possible. However, Your warranty will still be considered void if they find a custom rom on your device...so I dont get it?
Youll need both 0 Binary count and a Stock rom.

Yes i know but if the can't see this like with a SDS they will probably not see the custom ROM because not be able to flash. Im afraid of bricked issue. I mean if i cannot flash anymore. It's better to have counter reset instead of having nothing.
So it's better for me to reset counter even if I'm with custom rom? Is there a tutorial in my case rom custom + custom kernel?
Thanks a lot

Two words. Triangle Away.
The tutorial is the same whether with stock/rooted or custom/rooted. The only difference is you'll need to check "reset on boot" with Triangle Away to keep the counter from reading 1.

Thanks guys.
I know for stock rom before send to warranty. But first i reset counter.
But if i do it before flash stock. I will have to do it again after flash stock Rom??

Just uninstall Triangle Away AFTER you've reverted back to stock and unrooted and the counter should remain 0 and read official.
If you haven't had the phone that long, why not do a dry run from stock/unrooted to custom/rooted and then back to stock/rooted (with Triangle Away installed and doing its job of course) and see for yourself.

Thanks bro
I go step by step because im a newbie. I have already rooted and custom kernel rom. I'll read the thread of triangle away and try this.
But if i have some problem i can count on you and all the community ?

This is what this place is for.
Just keep mind the community also expects you to use the search function or learn from many existing tutorials here and the internet in general.
If you think you have a problem, chances are many other people have experienced the same and a thread may already exist.

I'll do my best to respect the rules and the community

here is some possible ways
-Having custom kernel/recovery, still yo can reset counter but for that you need play store version of triangle away, which have option to reset counter at every boot. again to remember you need custom kernel which support this function. this will help you if your device brick in a way when no normal boot is possible (still i doubt any existing custom kernel offers it)
- If device still able to boot normally and you have custom kernel/recovery, you can flash stock kernel and recovery and after that you can reset counter.
-For stock kernel and recovery, you can reset triangle(needs root) and can uninstall triangle away. whenever you need to claim warranty just unroot it.
Last option is safest way who are worrying about warranty.
one more good thing is that, most common cause of brick is SDS, we already have fix for that, though unfortunately someone gets SDS, i have seen lots of cases when even presence of custom kernel/recovery, hardly bootloader can detect it b'coz of emmc read failure and warranty remains intact. in fact i have seen only one case of SDS where download mode showing flash binary count non zero, though i was not ready to believe it was SDS (history what i remember is, one guy have posted here, his GF have got device bricked and claim was rejected b'coz of raised flash counter, her device needed to replace mobo that's it. no further information was there and hard to believe it was SDS by just this much information)

Thanks a lot for these details!
I use the perseus kernel andi don't know if he can use the auto reset counter with triangle away?
But if i understand what you said (sorry for my bad english speaking) almost all of the SDS will not avoid the warranty. If it's not a SDS I'm supposed to flash again with download mode?
Si should i try triangle away with perseus kernel?
Thanks again!
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app

Better ask on perseus forum if this option available, b'coz you have to purchase triangle away from market for that. Though it's welcome if you this way want to support developers.
Another your question possibility of Flashing in non sds case, that is really depends on types of brick you have. Though just flashing is not enough, you need to flash stock kernel and recovery as well you should have device working (booting) normally, bcoz triangle away needs normal booting device. So in case of brick I don't think you may get chance.
Simple advice
If you really worrying about flash counter and warranty, then keep stock maximum use root with reseting counter
Or
Let leave on luck and enjoy custom stuff.

I wouldn't hold my breath- Samsung has been known to delay major firmware revisions unless it has to do with their homegrown software.

i need to unroot my s3 for warranty purposes but i cannot find proper procedures for the the model sgh-t999v..
i have 2 questions,
1. can i just root a stock rom for sgh-t999 to my sgh-t999v?
2. anyone have the procedures to unroot my sgh-t999v
thanks
Flash a stock rooted Rom. T-Mobile one. That seems to be ok as long as you don't flash a T-Mobile radio.
Not sure if triangle away works on the Canadian version.
Maybe someone else has tried it.
All I had to do to return my last one was flash a stock rooted Rom.
I don't think they check the flash counter

I can see you have a Videotron Galaxy S3. They don't check the flash counter. Let's just say I know this "by experience". As long as it's just rooted and you don't have any custom ROM, you should be fine. But indeed if you can at least hide the SU app it would be a good thing.
You could also perform a factory reset in CWM prior to going to the store, as they will make you do it anyways (and you actually don't want them to see the CWM screen)prior to any exchange. It's company policy.

If your trying to go back to stock, just download the stock rom from sammobile, it has everything you need like stock recovery, and then just flash it via odin.

Thanks!
I'll test it tonight, wouldn't look good to download a 700 mb file at work!
I tried a few firmwares, but for some reason they all said "unsupport dev_type" when trying to use odin to return to stock non root (from stock rooted) In the end, the easiest way to remove root was to just let Kies update my gs3 to Jelly Bean (sgh-t999v). Painless, no data loss, took about 30 minutes with the firmware download.
Good luck
You will likely also want to triangle away. I won't link because it's extremely dangerous software that requires you to read up on the risks.
But that will reset your custom flashes assuming you have some on your counter you can check easily by going into download mode.
i recently lost my stock rom backup.. deleted it off clockworkmod touch by accident, so i only have the cm10.1 nightly i was running when i deleted it.. now i'm assuming i will lose root if i flash the stock firmware through odin? is there another way to get my stock rom back without losing root (and cyanogenmod rom backups)?
hey guys im having trouble with triangle away on my sgh-t999v with the baseband version: T999VVLUFNF1
after I used triangle away and I go into download mode it says:
current binary: Samsung Official
System status: official
qualcomm secureboot:enable
Warranty Bit:1
Bootloader AP SWAEV: 2
Although the current binary and the system status have changed the warranty bit is still at 1
Please help!
There is no way (and never will be a way) to change the Warranty Bit. Sorry

I guess im screwed for warranty..I thought it might be cuz I have a custom kernal installed that triangle away didnt work..but thanks anyway and sorry about posting in multiple threads, im kinda new to this
No problem, thats why i mention it, so you know for the future.
Tecnically, with the warranty bit tripped, the warranty is void. However, i have seen a lot of posts where people sent it in anyway and their warranty was still honored. Its not a guarantee, but there is hope it can be used if needed. The good thing though, is you most likely will never need to use it anyway!

Best Root Method?

So I just got my Note 2 yesterday and I cant stay away from rooting it, need it to remove few bloatwares and get rid of ads.
Whats the best method out?
-Flash via odin + triangle away?(which I feel is safest)
-Exploit apk
I read that the camera breaks after using the exploit apk so I am thinking of staying away from it.
Not planning for flashing CWM for now.
What do you'll say? Dont be harsh on me, it happens with everyone who gets a new phone
Odin.
Galaxy Note 2 Toolkit is the easiest way IMO.
Then use the exploit fix after as otherwise you have a massive security hole in your system. You can disable it to use the camera + there's no certainty your camera will actually stop working, depends on your ROM.

by far the easiest and cleanest and safest is the ExynosAbuse option! the only thing it does is to inject su binary and install SuperSu which you ca easily remove later by simply choosing 'Full unroot' in its options. easy does it, no restarts, no nothing. in 10 seconds you're rooted and back unrooted. the camera may break if you try to fix the exploit with that application but rooting is safe and clean!
I used to have the auto-root installed with Odin and it did increase my custom flash counter, showed my status as Custom instead of Official and Device showed as Modified so no OTA or KIES updates for me. no, the above option with ExynosAbuse certainly doesn't do that
There are no benefits to OTA or Kies when official f/w always gets leaked and tweaked on here before Samsung roll it out
...and you should only be concerned about flash counter for warranty purposes, but then in the EU rooting doesn't affect your warranty anyway
. no, the above option with ExynosAbuse certainly doesn't do that

Hmm, really? Rooting is not a warranty issue in EU? I didn't know that well, going further i found this: http://piana.eu/root maybe it explains well enough what's all the fuss about rooting. well, I bow to EU for that sort of law! I am goin g to share that, thanx a lot for opening my eyes!
About ExynosAbuse I meant it doesn't increment custom flash counter and doesn't set uztom statuses. It's very clean.

Should get chrome hahaha but anyways, there is a possibilty that it is rom specific but that is very unlikely, as developers would not really wanna touch the stock browser as normally i would see they would add an alternative browser such as chrome to their roms. To get the feature back you might need to push the app from the previous rom/version you were using.

TriangleAway crash
Hello, thanks for this thread. I have a GT-N7100 now but previously i had GT-9100 and i'm familiar with rooting, rom flashing, etc.. and i've used TriangleAway so many times. When i get my hands on note 2 first thing i've done was rooting it with CF Auto Root package via Odin. then i've done wiping steps and after that i tried to flash my counter via TriangleAway(purchased from market). It said i have to download data to use it so i did. When TriangleAway opened "Current Status" said current status cannot be determined so i have to go special boot mode for reset. So i tried to reset my counter. Unfortunately when app tried to check for kernel, first app froze and after that it crashed and showed a warning about app being stopped. I tried to delete and re-install app(no good), gone to download mode it said normal status with 1 custom software install, looked to recovery menu for any changes(it is stock not CWM) and tried to find any wrong thing i've screwed up while rooting. But i couldn't find anything. I've looked at chainfire's blog, TriangleAway app post and everywhere i can think of. I cannot find anything. Can u help me with my problem. Thank you for your time and if i misused English anyhow and it came difficult to read sorry in advance.

I used cf auto root on a friends n7100. The counter was reset by auto root itself.
You dont need triangle away as separate app. Just use cf auto root and make sure you use the right version for n7100
EDIT: you need triangle away for the counter. Auto root just installs stock recovery after rooting. I was wrong.

Hi, at the moment i would recommend you to try and restock again and then try to reset the counter. You can also try and download the triangle away version from the xda forum(i know its the same but who knows it might make a difference). If this does not work, i would recommend you to try and install redpill kernel and then try to reset counter again then restock, if you are running a custom roms in your phone, everytime you reboot the device will store a counter, so you will have to reset the counter everytime. Hope i have helped you.

First of all thank you and ktp1976 for answering.. Ok now i'm re-download everything from your thread and try it again.. I saw redpill kernel yesterday while i was searching is there any siyah kernel for note 2.. I luvved siyah kernel on my sgs2 but unfortunately there isn't one for it and developer wrote he will not wrote any version of siyah kernel for note series anytime soon.. so while i was looking for a kernel written by a suggested developer from gokhanmoral i came across to it.. the thing is i never have used any kernels double rom features or try to overlock any of my devices, i tried custom roms like miui, cyanogen, lightning on sgs2 but there was always a downside of all of the custom roms and every single time i've re-return to stock roms.. and while using stock roms i don't need any cutting edge features of advanced kernels i just need root permissions for using TitaniumBackup, Root Explorer and ROM ToolBox.. so that is the reason why i didn't try to have an advanced kernel.. Still if you are saying i will need it i will give it a shot.. I'll report after.. :fingers-crossed:

Samsung exynos chip, Exploit, Patch, Exynose abuse Chainfire, Root/Unroot, Mob Odin.!

hi
i have been reading a lot about exynos chip problems etc and came to realize exynos abuse app which many recommend from chainfire is the easiest way to root and unroot phone. not only that it gapes the holes for nasty viruses to intrude the exynos chip. but one thing i am not sure what chain fire says in his discription about exynos app is---
Also note that if use the patch method without rooting, or keep patching the exploit at boot enabled when unrooting, you need an alternate method to re-root the device to disable this feature (like CF-Auto-Root) - you cannot use ExynosAbuse to do this since it patched the exploit. Unlike other patch authors, I do not believe in keeping an invisible rooted process running in the background while pretending you aren't rooted, to be able to unpatch this way
Also i saw pics of exynos app photos on 1 of the forums, in one of the photos it says under Unroot device option- keep the patch which disables the exploit at boot in place. note that this will prevent from using exynos abuse app again..
I do understand there is some sort of exploit which we are patching using this app apart from rooting the phone just to stop those nasty viruses. and if we unroot the phone the patch will stay in place at every boot on the exploit so if we have to root again we have to use other method like cf auto root etc..
can anyone kindly shed some light on what exploit is and what is the limitation and advantage of exynos abuse app.
thanks..
Further explanation, clarification.. and a small question and open discussion.
Hi,
Since no one replied to my question i did more reading and youtube videos etc and gained a bit of knowledge from dr.ketan too and thought to share my knowledge and PLS DO CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG. And feel free to add more comments.
There is sudden death syndrome in s3, note 2. All exynos samsung processors on 4.1.1 are affected. The phone suddenly dies without any reason. Not only that there is serious security hole where any app can gain user information. These both fixes are supposedly fixed in 4.1.2.
But chainfire came out with a great apk app which you can install as a normal app on phone which roots, unroots phone in one click and not only that it plugs the hole which was letting malicious apps in. But exynoseabuse doesnt take care of SDS (sudden death syndrome) and it only works on 4.1.1 and doesnt work on firmwares LL7 after jan 2013
There is option of pluging the hole without rooting the phone but if you patch exploit (plug the hole) without rooting you cannot use this particular app to root your phone - you have to use other methods of rooting like cf auto root etc
On the other hand, If you decide to root your phone you can disable exploit (plug the hole) just by one click or you have the option of disabling the exploit every time you reboot the phone. so the app will patch the hole before any other normal android app runs.
Then if you decide to ever unroot the phone or send it away for warranty just click unroot device..
This is here where i am bit confused IF we unroot the phone the patch remains there.? is there a way to remove the patch as well while unrooting so that there are no traces of patching or rooting etc and can use this app patch again.?
Also if we dont flash cwm, we can flash custom firmwares using mobile odin right and if we are sending it for warranty just flash a stock firmware in odin and it will be all good.? NO triangle or flash counter reset etc..?

There is option to disable exploit in application, selecting that you closing security hole. is that clear?
Now if you unroot your device with selecting that option, still patch will remain there
If you don't select(uncheck) that option and then you unroot, patch won't be there
if you flash any stock ROM, that will erase all the patches you applied manually with exynose app including root.
O God Dr. Ketan you are full of knowledge and a kind man and you help all the time. Highly appreciated again.
Yes I do understand the concept fully now.
So if we uncheck both disable exploit options and unroot it removes patch as well unroots right. So that means we can root again using same app.?
On the other hand if we don't uncheck those disable exploit and unroot the patch stays there and we can't use exynosabuse app again to root. .. right. ?

exactly
b'coz you needs root to patch/unpatch
BTW i advised you to post queries in Q/A section not on development.
It basically started as my partially acquired knowledge sharing and open discussion thread but it turned to question and answer thread due to small confusion I had. I will change it to q and a thread tomorrow.
So with this root option we can still Flash any custom roms easily using mobile or pc odin but we won't have feature rich root to use things like nandroid backuo and restore because we don't have cwm. And if we have to send for warranty just flash stock rom and its all official and we don't even have to run triangle away etc as flashing stock ROM will take care of everything. ?

Morning doc. i wanted to delete this thread as you pointed out it is in development section. just realized it cant be deleted as we need to contact mod to delete it secondly i checked and it is in ques and ans section anyway so its all good. i have used exynos abuse app and rooted, unrooted twice and i will share a bit about it today some time. will jot down things in a newbie clear way so that in future if some one needs help they can read post and be clear about it.
Thanks for being actively involved and helpful all the time.

Seems you figured it out, but note that the Sds and enyxos security hole is two different things. Also, both of these are patched in any actively maintained kernel or rom on xda by now.

Yes thanks to dr.ketan and others I understand the concept now. Have lefy this thread for further open discussion now. One thing I am still not clear about is cos I dont have cwm as I rooted with exynosabuse app so dows that mean I cant flash custom roms like omega rom etc using mobile odin. ?

You can use mobile Odin without cwm, no worries.

Thanks for reply. if mobile odin, exynoseabuse is easiet method to flash custom rom and root/unroot, then why people go for CWM.? Where does the importance of CWM comes in play.? What does it do or give.?

exynose abuse won't work on latest ROM.
CWM have option to Nandroid backup
some CWM having touch GUI as well option to backup/restore EFS,kernel, recovery and more
you can read this thraed OP for more detail function of it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028103
Mobile odin is just flasher, you can flash any file in .bin/img/tar/flashable zip as well while flashing it can inject superSU to keep root intact.
you can't compare both, as both having its own function as well limitation.
you are saying to flash zip file is just common feature available in both, though once can't replace others because of other features.
Hmmm,
Exynos abuse works on my 4.1.1 though. clearly it wont work on 4.1.2 stock roms though.
So if i rooted my phone with exynos abuse which is on 4.1.1 and want to flash omega rom i cant do it with mobile odin.? if i can, then for some reason need to go back to stock for recovery i can easily and use triangle away if needed to..?
thanks

So for me to use omega rom I must have cwm. Means I can't install omega or any other custom rom using mobile odin on my exynosabuse rooted app phone.?
Its just you said I can't use mobile odin and other user urkashgupta said I can install custom roms just use mobile odin without having cwm.
2 people 2 different opinions so it's confusing

hi ketan,
i think slight misunderstanding in my question. my question said :"and want to flash omega rom i cant do it with mobile odin?- to that you said yes.
so i thought you said yes i cant .. but its all good so you say i can use mobile odin to flash omega or other custom roms even though i dont have cwm.
its all good. i will try it and see how it goes.
thanks again.

Anyway just like to add one suggestion.
If you want to flash custom rom, I recommend to use cwm
See what is reason to not to use cwm, I can see is you won't reset counter isn't?
But I think most of custom rom itself have custom recovery/kernel and rom itself raise counter, B'coz once you flash custom rom your recovery will be replaced by recovery that included in rom. So ultimately no meaning to use mobile odin to keep recovery stock.
Another reason it's my personal experience, flashing zip with CWM is more solid and hardly I have seen case where it fails to do so.
I do recommend to use mobile odin to flash zip files only when you need to flash some mod, which just used to replace some applications or framework of stock rom. But still you want to stay on stock rom.
So in summary :
Mobile odin is best
to flash stock rom without pc,
To keep root while flashing stock rom
To flash mods
To flash individual component like only recovery, kernel, modem
CWM is best to flash
Custom roms
Nandroid backup
Aroma file manager or
Some inbuilt features of cwm

[Q] restore stock rom for warranty purpose?

There is any way to restore a galaxy w i8150 (with cm10) to stock, in order to use original warranty? I root this smartphone and flash custom rom from clockwork recovery, never use odin or any other tool for firmware flashing...
(My battery swelled up, I should flash back to stock before send it, right?)

In order to go back to original state of your phone, you need to use Odin to flash stock rom. Find the official rom for your country and use Odin to flash it. There is an how to in either general or development sections here in xda forums.

True if you give your phone to service center with a custom ROM like CM10, they may reject your warranty claim. However, with flashing the stock ROM via odin you should be fine since it makes everything as it was when you bought the phone.
Just make sure you follow the steps in howto threads carefully. It might be a good idea to wipe system etc. in CWM before getting the phone in download mode to flash via Odin.
Good luck on your warranty claim and I sure agree with you on bloating battery not being your fault.

thanks to all for your answer, I call a samsung service center and they answer me that usually they don't cover battery with warranty, maybe in some case, within 6 months, they can make a favor and change it, but my battery is finally out of warranty (very strange thing!).. I'll find it on other channels, so I can have my phone back in one week
Even if battery is out of warranty, you can buy a replacement for a cheap price. They are not that expensive. It will save you the hassle of waiting for the service center. On top of that, you don't have to flash the stock rom.
