Anyone have Note 8 + Note 2? - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

Do Note 8.0 users who already have the Note 2 ever find the devices to be redundant? I feel like my Note 2 is just a little too small for writing, but I want to make sure the 8.0 feels different enough to justify a purchase

I have the 2 as the note 2 is also too small for me to write. But i well never use the note 8 as a phone even with an hands free kit : i need the 2

I have both as well. The Note 2 is nice when you can't carry the 8 around and still have a stylus.
If the 8 came out on Verizon and had phone capabilities, I would get it and leave in my pocket and just use the headset and smartwatch for calls.
IF I keep the 8 and I may go back down to a GS4 for the phone, but the stylus is so damn handy.

I have both. I love my Note2. N8 is nice so far for websites, playing games, watching movies. I just started messing with it last night.

Both here, Note 8 is not needed, and basically a complete waste of money, but I love it. It is much better for writing, that's for sure.

Note 8 is nice to play 1080p streaming TV without hiccup (but it kills battery awful fast!).

Yep! Battery drains soooooo fast if you have a lot of games installed.

I love my note 2. Got the note 8 last week, cause i really love the note taking function on a bigger screen, which is more of a gimmick on my Note 2. Although it is the best phone i ever used,I am thinking of selling the Note2 and replace it with BB Q 10, so i will use it as an agile primary phone and texting device, while i keep my note 8 for web-browsing, note taking and planner, light gaming, news reading, Skype, and why note a secondary phone.

Got the Note 2 the same day it dropped on sprint. Then got the note 8.0 the same day it dropped. I first got the note 10.1 but realized it was a little too big for what I needed. The note 8.0 came out a week after buying and using the note 10.1. It was a no brainer to return the 10.1 and get the 8.0. The only thing I miss is the front facing speakers. I also think the 8.0 should have been a little bit cheaper. Oh and the battery life should be alot better on the 8.0 than what it is.

Almost one year with the note 2 and one week with note 8. My master device remains the note 2 as being fully polyvalent. Note 8 for easier Internet browsing the evening and note taking during the day.

I have both and find the note 2 silly to carry around with the tablet as well. Which is why I'm selling me note 2 and picking up a galaxy s4 or HTC one

same same ... but maybe not for long

LOL have the same set and thought it might be a tad too much
well i do admire the s pen capability
although i use the 10 more than the 2
now have the 8 and wondering if it should replace the 10
i did notice a problem and not sure if you have the same issue....
the s-note app on the 8 refreshes for around a minute every time i open the app
this doesn't happen with my 2 or 10 although all my notes are synced and i do have a bunch (don't know if i can call them a lot since you might beet me with that as well )
can you tell me if you do have the same issue ?
and would you consider the 8 replacing your 10?

I had the Note 2 and was so used to taking note using the Spen that I got the Note 8 cause I also found the Note 2 too small. But I realised that the Note 8 is not as good for taking notes. Because of the size, you either have to hover your palm above the Screen as you write or rest it on the screen. Both are equally uncomfortable. Given a choice again I won't buy the Note 8.

I have both and am keeping both. The note 8 is great for note taking.

I have both and would not give either up. I am always writing notes and love the stylus on both and the note syncing capabilities. I use the 2 as my daily phone (duh), note taking and casual internet use and the 8 for my main internet use and reading. I had originally wanted the 10 instead of 8 but decided the portability of 8 won out.

+1 at first I thought it might be redundant getting the 8 after owning the 2. but for me it's not. For me they excellently complement each other.

I don't think it's that uncomfortable personally. It feel like writting on one of those smaller notebooks as opposed to a regular sized one...but that's my personally option. I don't have the Note 2 but I do have the GS4 and I considered getting rid of it for the note 2 and decided against it pretty fast once I got the note 8. Only gripe about the 8 personally is the price. $399 is high...period. ESPECIALLY for an 8" tablet, and even more so when you consider most places have the 10.1 on sale for $449 now. You get the same specs in a 10.1" screen as opposed to an 8". For me the 8" screen is perfect. If my hands are full it CAN still fit into a pocket...though barely lol. It still has a 1280x800 like the 10.1 but so it has a higher pixel density.
Somebody asked me if I could change the note 8 how would I and I really only want 3 things:
1 - Full HD Display. You could do it in the GS4 but not the Note 8? Granted...maybe it has to do with the digitizer in the note series...idk
2 - The front camera is off center and the rear camera doesn't have a flash.....on an 8" tablet....an off center FFC is annoying
3 - Front facing speakers...which I realize is probably more difficult to do on an 8" tablet than a 10". The 10" Tab 2, Note, and the Nexus 10 all have FFC so I'm assuming is a space issue? Idk
Other than that...i LOVE my note 8.

Note II sans S-Pen

I've had my Note II for almost three months now. I love it! It's quite the beast in terms of many things, mainly the gorgeous screen, the snappy performance, and the AMAZING battery life.
However, I've rarely used the S-Pen. I've mainly used it to show it off to my friends who (a) were curious about it; (b) wanted to try it; or (c) were going to buy a Note II themselves (or at least planning to). I've used it a few times to scribble quick notes here and there, but aside from that, the S-Pen is tucked in nice and safe inside my Note II probably 95% of the time.
So my question is: would you have purchased a Note II even without the S-Pen and its related features (S-Note, AirView, etc.)??
Discuss.
No i dont think i would've gotten the note 2 if it didnt have the spen I'd just buy the galaxy s3...
Idk how you don't use it.other than notes i love to doodle and use it for browsing
It's nice to have but by no means a deal maker for me, I just wanted a different phone to iPhone. iPhone 5 was nice, but not different enough to justify keeping it.
The S-pen is definitely a major reason for me getting the Note 2. I would have just went with a different phone otherwise, possibly the S3. There are always times where I wish I had a stylus, but the broad point ones never did it for me. This device will finally give me a stylus that does what I want, which is to have a fine tip and to react as if I were writing on a piece of paper. I may not use it all the time, but I'm sure it will get pulled out at least a few times a week.
I purchased the Note 2 because of the spen. I was using my ipad to write work notes ( I've been paperless for years) , and the note had completely replaced it and it offers me convenience and portability on top of that. I haven't touched my pc or ipad in over two months. My note 2 does it all!
My next (insert gadget here) will be the Note 3.

Absolute deal breaker with no SPen. Without the pen it's just a big SIII

Take a look at GMD s-pen control on play store. With that you never need to touch your screen with fingers anymore. Been using it for few weeks now and it i a fantastic.

[Q] Is SGN-II worth buying?

Sup guys.
I'd like to ask owners of SGN-II - do you guys think this mobile is worth buying now, some months before release of SGN-III? It - presumably - will have better hardware and bigger screen, but would it really matter?
I'd also like to ask if somebody uses SGN-II on a regular basis to take notes and stuff - I'm planning it to use as a student (Bc.) instead of "old" paper notebook and wonder if it's screen going to be sufficient for that.
Cheers.
If you wait for the note 3 you might as well wait for the note 4. The s-pen works really well for taking quick notes but the screen may be a bit small for your needs. Have you looked at the note 8.0? The note 8.0 would be a lot better for taking long notes, IMO.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Imo the note2 would be too small for your needs. I have note2 which is an awesome smart phone but I wouldn't use as a educational tool, I also have the note 10.1 which given the extra screen space is a much better option.
I also recently sold the galaxy tab 7.7 which I loved and only sold as I realised my note 2 is JUST large enough to make a small tab unnecessary, so now I use the note 2 while out and about and the 10.1 while at home. Just my opinion.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
As someone who's got all three of the current Galaxy Note range, I'd say the Note 8.0 would be best for your needs. The screen on the Note 10.1 looks like fuzzy garbage and it's a bit too heavy to use comfortably as a paper notebook replacement. The Note 2 is ok for quick notes but not suitable for use of any duration. Note 8.0 is the sweet spot, both portable and practical. Battery life isn't the best but it will get you through a full 8 hour day.

Thank you for your suggestions guys, I'll take a look at Note 8, however I really liked AMOLED screen on SGN-II, looks so... vivid and bright after my Desire S, lol.
Y'all may think I'm crazy, but I went to the AT&T store last night to look at the LG Optimus G Pro and compare the screen with my Note 2. As far as resolution goes, I couldn't tell the difference and my daughter agreed with me. Maybe if you hold the phones 5 inches from your face you would see the big difference that everyone is talking about. The only thing that looked a little better to me were the whites. The speed I've been hearing so much about, well my note 2 was just as fast at scrolling, loading apps and browsing the web. Maybe its the rom and kernel I'm using (Hawkish rom and Perseus kernel). I'm glad I went and looked at the LG because I was jealous of the 1080p screen that I've been hearing so much about, but no more. The Note 2 is a fantastic device with a nice screen and a tone of features. The development is outstanding as well with the Note 2. We have a lot of very talented devs.

Some suggestions were made about getting a note 8 but you could also consider getting a Bluetooth keyboard to type with the gnote2. Take the nerd factor to the next level.

Hi,
Simple answer. Yes.
I am a student but I make my notes old skool with pen and paper. The Note II is fast and smooth enough. After 2 or 3 years I will buy the Note 5 or 6.

Replace Nexus 7 with Note 2?

Hey everyone!
At the moment, I'm using Nexus S and Nexus 7 combo. Nexus S is getting too old to be on par with new software which lags, and since I have the I9023 version, it has SLCD display and camera wasn't as good even for the time when it came out.
So I was thinking, maybe I should sell both devices and add a bit more money to it, and get Note 2?
So I did the math
I lose:
- bigger N7's screen
- Nexus experience
- multiple devices option (battery saving and stuff)
- good reading experience on N7
I get:
- a single device on which everything is done
- Note experience
- by far a better camera
- Super AMOLED display
So I need your opinion, I hope this isn't getting way too boring for you (these questions), does it pay out, since I'd really like Note 2.
I own both, and I hardly use my Nexus 7 now Depends on your usage though, you must already be aware that screen size is significantly smaller - but it's significantly better device in all other respects, and much easier to hold than a tablet obviously. For me, N2 hits the sweet spot. And obviously there's S Pen, which you may or may not use - I do use it a lot for browsing and typing especially.
I just switched from Nexus 7 + Lumia 800 to Note 2. I am very happy with the change. The Nexus was great, I loved it, but I had to carry two devices. Now it is perfect.

the google experience is very beautifull, but it is too thin, too poor of features and uncared for in my opinion, the only good thing is lightening fast updates.
For the rest I sold the Nexus 7 as soon as I took notes 2 and I decided to buy 10.1 Notes and Notes 2 and now I feel really good xD
Get a note 8... best of note 2 in a bigger size. .phone calling included
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)
Note 8 isn't a phone. It's still a tablet with call facility. Obviously if that's what he's looking for then Note 8's the better choice obviously.

Exactly. But honestly, that is why we have this forum, I can always try some ROM of new Android which is not yet available for Note.
I don't think I'll get Note 8, I can't really carry it around everywhere I go. I'll go for Note 2, already sold my racket I don't use that much, so I need to sell my NS and N7 and that's it.
Question though! Reason I was hesitating was big screen for gaming, and then it hit me - Note does have HDMI output right? So can I fire up say, Asphalt 7 and hook it up to TV, and then just use my phone as a controller?

If the nexus experience is not that important to you then by all means get the note2. Touchwiz is actually bearable and useful on the mote2. Very optimized hardware, software is pretty good and optimized, battery life can't be beat, screen is friggin' awesome especially movie mode for the accuracy, reception is actually pretty dang awesome for a Samsung phone, it is easier to hold than a 7" tablet, the interchangeable battery and expandable storage etc etc...
Yes, there is video out through mhl. I highly recommend getting the official OEM accessories to do it, and there are different methods of getting it like the smart dock, adapters or straight mhl to HDMI cable. I haven't tried games yet, but you might want to consider the input lag that might or might not be there. Video though looks great.

Good to see I'm not the only one with N7 and SGNII I have both devices and don't carry my N7 as much as I used to, but I love it and use it at home, since it's much more convenient, bigger screen, etc. Note II is BIG, but not as big as N7
I had an n7 too, but no longer. The screen is bigger, but I found that the superior display quality of the note 2 factors in in the reading experience. An even better example is my Transformer Pad, which has such an abysmal display compared to the note 2, that I almost read better on my phone in spite of it being a fourth of the screen size.

[Q] Note 8 vs Note 10.1

Hello, everybody.
I was looking to buy a Galaxy Note 8 for the past weeks, reading forums, reviews, etc. I really like it for the SPen, Quadcore and for being 8 inch. Then I saw a promotion on Note 10.1 which is the cheapest I've ever seen. Well, the difference between Note 8 and Note 10.1 prices is only $28 (Note 8 as more expensive). Both of them only wifi version.
Considering the image quality, the updates, the lightly fast processing, the light weight and new technology on Note 8, I really don't know what to do. I mean, 149ppi of Note 10.1 is really annoying and its weight is not comparable to Note 8 (but the weight is not a really problem to me).
On the other hand, I'm just thinking if I would be pleased in watching videos, reading books or other results with images (photo, games) with the 8" screen. What would be better in general for you?
P.S.: The Note 8 wifi only has a samsung official update (on-the-air) for Android 4.2.2?
Thank you all.

I'll attempt to help you out. Never used a Note 10.1 but have read many posts from users that have both. Most feedback is exactly what you stated. Note 8 has a better screen, speed/smoothness, and feel to it. As for reading books I'm not sure but for me the 8" screen is about the perfect tablet size. If you use the tablet at home primarily than a 10" tablet would work out fine. However if you plan on carting the thing around my opinion is the 10" tablet is a bit cumbersome.
As far as I know there is no official Samsung 4.2.2 release. The build being used currently is a beta leak. However, I'm running a 4.2.2 custom rom and it is 100% stable, has floating multiwindows like the Note 10, and is smoother than 4.1.2. The Note 8 may never see an official release because Samsung might just jump right to 4.3. I would think something should be released in the near future.
Thank you, CCallahan!
I was convinced to get Note 8 when I saw this promo that put the choice in my personal view and not exactly in the price.
I would like to get around with my tablet as I'm doing some academic works and I would use it at home for entertainment since my notebook can always do the hardwork here. I do work with video so I would like to get a nice screen for viewing pics/videos, image quality is pretty important here (considering the Note 10.1 screen). I have another doubt about web browsing (I'm putting this things cause I've never tried both tablets on my hands), but in video reviews the Note 8 seems to get it done as well.
I'm voting on Note 8 as I only think in Note 10.1 for its screen size.
P.S.: what do you mean when you say "I would think something should be released in the near future." Do you mean a new GNote tablet or that Note 8 could get 4.3 update?
err we do have the official release of 4.2.2 on note 8 but the last release was for germany & asean region. but the features are less then what we expected... plus some feat missing.

I was wrong about 4.2.2 obviously. Did not realize some 3g models were currently getting that rolled out.
What I meant was since 4.3 is already out some manufacturers such as HTC are choosing to bypass a 4.2.2 release and go straight to 4.3 on certain devices. Thought this could be a possibility for some Samsung devices as well.
As for web browsing on the Note 8, I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly it loads web pages. I have an S4 as well and the Note is much faster.

The note 8 is a great device. . Better than the note 10.1
If you don't do much reading... and don't need spen ..get the nexus 7 2013. ..it has an amazing screen and the speakers are awesome... and the price and updates are unbeatable.. (just got it too)
Also consider the new LG gpad 8.3 inch tab which had been announced

I have a tab10.1 and a note 8.0.
I use both for:
Internet, Email, movies, games. reading books and magazines.
Advantage 8.0: Weight, size
Disadvange: The only real disadvantage compared to the 10.1 is when reading magazines. Have to zoom in a lot and then lose track
8.0 goes on travel, I find the 10.1 to big for on the road.
Im just comparing form factor, not the actual devices.
Ok!
edan1979: Thanks for the link, i'm going to ready some stuff about that. I was confused about the update being for 5010 or only 5000 but now I understand.
pakure: I'm choosing Note series for reading and Spen for writing in first place and to see as well if I can do some others creative works with the Spen. Anyway, I will be watching a lot of stuff ocasionally and gaming but I'll be primmarly focusing on Spen and reading/writing. And getting a good use of its quadcore.
HANSB57: Yeah, I like your comparison from having both options. I like the portability for travelling and walking around with it. I would really like a Note that would be possible to carry around a lot, everywhere. Something light but with a screen able to do multitasking, easy to write/read, to anotate, to watch videos and to edit imgs.
I have two days to make my choice and now I'm going on Note 8.

I understand! Since my option is N5110, I'm on wifi only on 4.1.2. I'll be waiting that future update to really come. Let's see what Samsung is capable of. It shouldn't exist that kind of OS politics. It's such easy to get these updates in new devices.
After knowing your device requirements,......I suggest you get the note 8.

Yeah, pakure.
I have three last important questions! I need to read PDF as results of books scanning. Is it fine to read these PDF files that are in landscape orientation? I mean 2 pages side by side in one landscape pdf page. Is it possible to read at least holding the Note 8 in horizontal view?
The second question is that I read about a 32gb microSD size limitation at samsung official user manual. But in gsmarena (for example) I can see the limit up to 64gb. Well, I would like to know if is it possible to put a 64gb microSD on Note 5110.
And the third one is about the speed limit. Which should be the ideal speed for getting a microSD card? Thinking about external read/write maximum speed allowed.
Thanks again, people!
I have owned the 10.1 and now the 8.0. Writing is fine on either device. I'm taking college courses at night and I prefer the 8.0 for portability. The speakers are way better on the 8.0. My biggest issues of the 10.1 was the screen, being bigger but the same resolution as the 8.0 was just blurry enough to be annoying. It's a bigger issue than one would think. Also its hard to hold without being in the way. where as the 8.0 is nice for ebooks and surfing the net.

1. i think you need to zoom it a lil bit. depend on the book size... if the scan book are big you might not see it.
2. 64gb class 10 working fine. i use it on my note 2 and this note 8
3. go for class 10.
sdelliott31: once gain it's very good to listen somebody who owns both tablets. I'm really appreciated in choosing Note 8 for the pointings that you've said.
edan1979: ok! I'll need just a few books with that kind of display (horizontal 2 pages viewing), but it'll be ok zooming in particularly cases. And for the speed, I'll be glad to go for up to 30MB/s class 10 card.
Getting a option now shoud be easy after your support. I'll be getting back soon to the forum to share my experience with other users!
I used to own a Note 10.1 and now have the Note 8.0.
I would say it's a slightly better experience drawing and writing on the 10.1 because of the extra screen size.
Multi window is also more useful on the larger tablet, battery life is longer and speakers are louder.
The 10.1 also has a true tablet ui while the Note 8.0 has in effect a phone ui.
Having said all that I sold the 10.1 once I got the 8.0 for the following reasons.
As others have mentioned the 10.1 is just blurry enough to be annoying. It is more of an eye strain to read text on it than it is to read it on the Note 8.0 inspite of the larger physical size of the screen. Also the colour rendition seems better on the 8.0. The 10.1 colours seem slightly washed out in comparison.
There are times where I feel a little cramped writing on the 8.0 but these moments are hardly worth worrying about in comparison to the advantages of the smaller form factor. The 10.1 is more cumbersome to carry around and it's significantly heavier so it starts to get tiring to hold after a time. The 8.0 is also much easier to type on while holding it in portrait mode. While holding it in both hands your thumbs can easily reach all the letters.
The 8.0 also seems smother overall. The 10.1 can exhibit a little lag at time, for instance a slight delay when trying to switch apps via the recent apps button. It's still a good performer but the 8.0 is just very slick and smooth almost all the time.
Battery life on the 8.0 could be better but it's enough to get me through an 8 hour day on a full charge. I guess Samsung had to make a trade off here - a bigger battery would mean more weight and thickness so the device wouldn't feel as amazing as it does in the hand.

they actually could do better with the battery... my old 7.7 equip with 5100mah
I own both tablets. I just got the 8" because I used to have a tab 8.9 and I thought that was the perfect size for a tablet. This one is close, more similar to a moleskine notebook.
I'm a graphic artist and honestly the resolution never bothered me on the 10". Sure you can definitely make out the pixels, just move the screen an inch away or, as a personal trick I use an anti-glare screen protector. The suddle fuzziness blends the pixels together removing the aliasing that everyone hates. Plus it makes it look more natural (prints are not extra sharp), less reflective, helps finger gliding and gives a feeling of paper when using the pen.
That said I think the 8" is better for being more portable. And that's all you really should want from a tablet. Also the pen is slightly smaller but more round and easier to hold.
I'm currently using it with a SanDisk ultra 64gb sd card and it doesn't have any problem reading it. (Both tablets didn't).
dr.mOX: yeah, once gain 10.1 battery and screen size seems to be the point to make this decision sounds hard. But for Note 8 being smoother, newer and lightly portable is what should matter. I'm thinking over and over, but each time I look around it really looks like a certain decision on Note 8. As what you've said, trades are made for better experiences in another ways. For the Phone UI, it's a little thing, but it's a different thing. Anyway, it should be fine in portrait mode.
DBBGBA: Nice to read it. It's very important to be very close to "tablet experience" to me as with notebooks we can do some working with a restricted, but possible, another kind of portability.

NO new Note 8 +

Well it looks for sure that we will not get a new Note 8 model.
For those of us who love it, it is a big disappointment but I've read many places it didn't sell that well.
Somehow I don't believe that as 8 inch is the sweet spot in tablets and the stylus beats all the competition.
Has anyone gone to the Note 10 2014 or the Note 12.2?
What great advantage do they have?
They certainly don't have the portability and handiness of the Note 8.
I'd hate to see this line die, especially when Samsung is pumping out models like lab rats.

The 10.1 I used to have and went back to the note 8. Mostly for portability. I am TEMPTED to try the 8.4 pro with this stylys Apex Fine Point
It works REALLY well with the Nexus 7. Only draw back is no holder on the 8.4

But does it do OCR?
With the Note 8, all the programs - sorry apps, that I use the Note converts my writing to text and does a pretty good job at it.
That's really important to me.
I don't think the Note 10 has enough going for it for me to give up the portability.

The 10.1 does have OCR and the handwriting recognition is much better. The S-Pen also feels much better with writing with it. It there was a note 8(or 8.4) with the same breed of Android that is on the 10.1 I would throw the note 8 in the trash lol

I would certainly go for a Note 8.4 but I would never through my faithful Note 8 in the trash.
It would be a great gift for someone.
Maybe I am missing the point... the 10.1 2013 edition is lacking power. As for the 2014 edition it is quite the tablet, but if I were to get anything larger than 9 inches, I would go for a 12" tablet that ran a full OS, not Android. No, I am not an Android hater, just when you play with phablets, you get android, mostly because of the lack of storage space. With a true tablet, storage space should not be an issue for a full fledged OS.
Because I see the Note 8.0 tablet as an in between of sorts, my expectations are minimal. Given that the stock firmware works pretty darn good, having an S-pen, hand writing capabilities, and Samsung search functions that are lightning fast over Google's. The only issue I see is Androids inability to automatically sync time from the internet. Though there are apps for that. If there are any complaints about the Note 8.0 not meeting expectations, then the end user should have found what he or she wanted in the first place.
I waited a year for something like the Note 8.0, and knew once I had it something else would have something that the Note 8.0 did not have. I purchased mine knowing its limitations, as they did not matter.
Since Samsung has released the Tab pro 8.0 does it make me want one... No. Nor will any other tablet that has an 8 inch screen, well until this tablet becomes faulty, then there will be time for replacing.

I agree. I've been using the N5100 as my phone and tablet, and even though I think I'm going to purchase a new phone, I've gotta keep this as a tablet. Using S-Note for taking notes in meetings has totally spoiled me.
Shame that sammy hasn't re-upped with a 2014 version, but I'll be keeping my Note 8 for reading epubs and taking notes.
I'm as much a "new tech whore" as anyone on XDA (11 tabs over the past 12-14 months) and have come to the conclusion that there never will be a "OneSize Fits All" tab. Having had tabs from 7 to 10.1 inches, for overall usefulness, the GNote8 works best for me. Sure, it ain't perfect. Nothing is. And yes, I was tempted to score the GNote 8 Pro but the lack of SPen/digitizer was a deal breaker. For me at least. The GNote8 does all I require when I require. If I need a Windows tab the Dell 8 Pro serves me well.
We may well be seeing the winding down of significant upgrades in the tablet form factor. Minor tweaks and cosmetic adjustments might be what's in store. Do I need the "latest and greatest"? Nah. Find what works for you and just enjoy!

I use K9 mail, gmail, google Look and Docs to Go
They all work fine.
Samsung's Amazon entry for the Note 8 now has a '2013 Model' in the name. This makes me wonder if there will be a 2014 version later this year or early next year.

The fact that it didn't sell well is obvious. It was released as a niche device for people who have use for a stylus, and cost $400 initially. It was never intended to sell well, nor was it intended to compete with other tabs on the market. If anybody bought it without a realistic need for a stylus, they did not do their homework and bought the wrong device.
Advantages of the newer tabs include CPU, screen, and battery. But you sacrifice portability. I have no use for a 10" tab personally, as it would not fit into my white coat.
But most importantly, what makes you say that there isn't going to be a new version? Just because it's not out yet doesn't mean much, unless Samsung actually says that it's being cancelled.
