How to stop launcher restarting? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know of any fix for launcher restarting ? I am on stock ics and have not long done a fresh install of Rom using pc companion. It is rooted with bootloader unlocked using testpoint and I have removed some system apps bloatware using list from xda. I don't want to install a third party launcher or even a launcher from another xperia phone just want to know if there's a fix to stop launcher from restarting. It happens after leaving an app all the icons and launcher need to refresh and its really annoying. I have latest beta of greenify app installed and sefix app installed and have 160mb left on phone memory.

If you don't want to flash a custom ROM then run supercharge script.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

Don't want to run supercharger it doesn't work have tried it multiple times it always causes problems. I am thinking of going back to gingerbread might be the way to go or new phone this one has had its time I think.
Sent from my LT15i using xda app-developers app

I ran supercharger on stock gingerbread and phone was way faster. I can't say how it was on ICS, because all custom ROMs come pre-rooted.
If you won't miss ICS features, and care about stability and speed, then go for GB.
Or buy a new phone if you have money

So would you recommend nexus 4 or wait for new one to come out.
Sent from my LT15i using xda app-developers app

If you can afford Nexus 4 then get one - it's a wonderful device and in my opinion you won't need a new nexus or any other phone for years.
But if I were you, I would try some custom ROMs first. They are a lot better than stock. It's free and you will feel like you have a new phone. I was playing with custom ROMs on Arc for over year and decided it's time to move on
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

ICS ROMs require additional tweaking for Supercharge script to work properly due to different services.jar file.
I can't guide you, because I do not have access to such things at the moment.

Ive tried the ics setup it didn't work the fact is this phone can't handle certain apps mainly games so uses CPU when I come out of these apps its taking it'd time booting everything up again just got to face the fact its old and needs replacing.

The smoothest I had on Arc was supercharged gingerbread. No ICS ROM came close to that.
And your problem isn't CPU - it's low RAM.
If you thinking about switching devices and have any questions about nexus 4 then you can ask me

Hydra kernels problems

Just tried every kernel Hydra has to offer and every one put my phone into a bootloop. Had to revert back to stock.
Any tips to get these working?

I used the OC/UV ov, kernel #2 from Hydra. It was working ok but made my keyboard really laggy.
Sent from my rooted Incrediblę
My keyboard is sometimes laggy but usually really fast. I've isolated the issue to the dictionary, I'm sure if auto suggest was off you wouldn't notice it.
Although, after using it for a day, the keyboard lag seems to have gone. Maybe it was repopulating or something.. no idea in this department.
Edit: these kernels are meant only for froyo

[Q] Color control without custom kernel on JB

Hi,
Having been on JB for the last week and having tried many JB kernels (Trinity, Franco), they just don't seem to match the performance (and battery) of the stock kernel currently.
However, I absolutely need the color control features that come with these 3rd party kernels as my stock GN has a terrible yellow tint to it.
What I would like is if I could stay on the stock kernel while being able to alter my screen colors. I've tried to use the experimental Voodoo app that was test released a few months ago but it didn't seem to work.
Does anyone know of an app or something I could flash that can allow me to alter my colors on the stock kernel?
Any help would be appreciated.
Nope not possible . These files are apart of the custom kernels... and only the kernel has the ability to tweak the absolute color values. So the only way to get the color control is to flash back.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
So, it wouldn't be possible to (theoretically) modify the stock kernel to just include said color tweaks, and nothing more?

Man would I love that.
Another annoyance with 3rd party kernels is that they slow down after a period of time and requires a reboot to speed it up again. So far, I'm back on the stock kernel and it's still flying after heavy use.

Everything slows down after a long period of not rebooting. Cache builds and the system needs a restart.

Less so with the stock kernel from my experiences. I have no issues with restarting my phone once in a while but doing it every few hours gets exhausting.

Few hours? No days yes... I've never had a kernel slow down within hours. That would be yours apps building cache... the kernel... ironically is what empties it.

[Q]Modifying the maximum overclock with a kernel

Hey, I have a Glide running INC3PETION v1 and using the latest ardatdat kernel, and I was wondering if there is any way for me to change the overclock in said kernel. It is currently set to 1.2ghz but I want to bump it up a tiny bit to maybe 1.3ghz or (if it's safe) 1.4ghz. This is so I can watch some video files (mkv) without having the bad audio lag issues. I would not be having it overclocked at that speed all the time, only for short periods. The only thing preventing me from just keeping a copy of cranium (I think it's cranium) on my sd is portability. The only kernel I know of that is OC'd higher than ardatdat hasn't fixed the data counter issue. And it needs Odin. I would like to be able to just go into CWM and flash my extra OC'd kernel when I need it. As a last thought, I think ardatdat has stopped (or paused) development so if this is at all possible, help is greatly appreciated.

You can try to download no frills CPU control.should be able to overclock when you need it then, just make sure you have root (su)

@above Still, the max is set to 1.2
Side question: say I don't want to install a separate app: what files should I have to mod to select the governor and maximum frequency?
Thanks.

Make your own thread for your own question... I'm looking for an answer to my problem and I don't need constant notifications about yours. Thanks.
And just to clarify, I have an overclocking app already. What I'm looking for is how to change the max clock speed that is set in the kernel. Or just a kernel that has it already raised above 1.2. I need the data counter fixed though, no matter what.

Audio lag I believe can be fixed in inception v2 with voodoo sound.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using xda premium
Its only happening in mx when I play mkv. Its a known speed issue with the player. Also, I really don't like the theme on v2
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using xda app-developers app
If it's a known speed issue with the app, why would changing the oc on the kernel affect it? Think about, the general audience for the app don't have OC kernels. It is supposed to work without OC. I think just an update to the app will fix it.
I'll see if I can unpack boot.img for the kernel, anyway
Well you see it's an issue with older phones. And mine has had a bit of an issue with speed simply because of some of the apps I have running. That's why I wanted to do this. Its hardware limitations. I just worded it wrong.

Isnt it just easier to kill the running apps before playing the video, than setting another oc just to play it. your reasons for doing these are too strange...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using xda app-developers app
Except that the running apps are ones that I cannot kill? My Data monitor, antivirus, facebook (which I would like to kill but cannot) as well as a few others are what slow it down. Besides, I just would like to see how well the videos run at a higher clock. Simple curiosity is probably the best way to explain it.

you can kill the facebook app by logging off then it should be able to close.

sorry same here I don't know how to help you. I was just trying to help you out and close different applications that are open in the backround. What I usually do is log off certain applications like facebook and other ones I actually turned around and uninstall anything that stays resident and in memory this way I know that my phone is not running any non essential application in the background.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using xda app-developers app
I expect you'd need to modify the source of the kernel to support a higher max OC, and then you'd need to build the kernel from source. I didn't spot the source for any of the kernels on our phone at a glance, but I didn't look too hard, if you track one down it should be fairly straightforward.
Ah ok. And getting the tools to do so is a piece of cake, so I suppose that's what I'll have to do. Thanks for your help!

Why does it lag?

Why does the GN lag so much when installing a app from the playstore?
And can something be done that i can use the device while a app gets installed?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I think it's because Android is just not so optimized, it lags on almost every debice
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
On my stock optimus2x or anfriends note 2 there is not the slightest lag when installing a app.
GN basicly locks up so i doubt its android somehow...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Because the CPU takes a hit with processing the install (unpacking resources, etc). OMAP CPUs are very open for development/modding compared to other CPUs, but the side effect is they're not quite as powerful due to avoiding some libraries and hardware techniques other CPUs might use that are proprietary in certain cases.

Personally I don't have that problem with my gnex . Its smooth as ever but, I don't leave unused apps using resources like fb or other rogue apps.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
so i went back to stock (with the exact same apps as before) and this is a huge difference, no lag at all, no even when installing apps from the playstore. no need for any seeder or lagfix hack to get the device working as it should.
so now the question is wether the lag apears as well after some time or if the lag thing is only present in custom roms. and if so then the question is why.
i will keep my device on stock for some weeks to see how it goes.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
It will almost certainly come back, and it's not only present in custom ROMs. A clean install of a custom ROM should result in the same speed boost as a clean install of a stock ROM. See the following thread:
Nexus Storage Performance Over Time & TRIM
I would also say it depends on what governor and I/O scheduler you use. I would say try the stock settings of interactive and cfq.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
as far as i can remember all custom roms literaly froze when a app was installed. so far i have not seen this on stock and i dont think that is a mather of trim or sheduler/governor.
but i will find out soon enough i guess...
Edit: forgot to ask, you are on a custom rom and your device doesnt freeze while installing apps?

I have tried 3-4 ROMs so far and never faced this problem.
While downloading apps, I can parallely do other tasks, play games, make and receive calls.
And if this helps, My GNex is 7 months old.

I agree. I'm using XENON HD Stable-4.0 Franco kernel r364. Ever since dumping the stock ROM, the Play Store performance is painfully slow. I have 276 apps on my Galaxy Nexus and the Play Store seems to be the only app that impairs the phone's performance so dramatically.
As a previous poster said, a lot has to happen when installing an app. So I tear myself away from my beloved comm dev from a few minutes and do something else. Like relate to my wife

I need some help please!

Can someone please provide me with a working semi stock ICS rom link...I need to get my wife's phone fully working and she dosnt like these customized roms and it seems like all link are dead for older builds. And I can never get Sammobile links to fully download or ever work....I can't use stock jellybean 4.1.2 because of some stupid settings that get brought on the home screen it's an issue from awhile back that I don't think ever was fixed and Samsung said it needs to be re flashed by them but she'd be happy with an ICS rom that everything fully works including tethering...thanks in advance and sorry for the novel

Try Jedi Mind Trick, I'm using it right now and it's great. I'm using it with the Tiberius kernel (I don't think I spelled it right lol), but you HAVE to let the rom settle in for at least 10 mins, otherwise it'll just start giving problems such as random reboots, force closes, battery life issues, etc. It's based on Touchwiz 4.1.2 so you won't have any camera issues.
to the rescue
