[Q] [ILWT CM7 732] Problem with unlocking screen - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Helou
Since i'm not allowed to post in proper forum part ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242480 ) i'm forced to post my problem here :")
At ths time i got ILWT CM7 732 rom but same problem accured with earlier ver. 685.
When im trying to unlock screen i press power button, screen flashes and turn back to black - it looks like it would be turned on but black.. i need to press power again to make it totaly black and power again - this time i can see my locker and i am able to unlock screen. Sometimes i'm forced to make it 2 times to make it work.
User FullScreen57 seems to have very similar problem (u can read it in original thred - link at top - post #2990) but no one rly answear it.
I'm using Virtuous OC Daemon (earlier i used ILWT OC deamon with ver.685 with same issue) and ILWT CM7 kernel.
Does anyone know sollution for this issue or any pointers to fix this - it is kinds annoing after longer period of time and i realy like this rom.
Best regards
Martin

Dont know what are you taking about mine is fine with ILWT kernel and ILWT OC Deamon
IF you are using go launcher or ADW launcher remove it and install AOSP launcher
IF you didnt do a fresh install do it
Dont use ANY third-party locker like GO locker
and try changing lockscreen setting in ILWT CM 7 setting
AND try using CM7 kernel i'll post my ILWT setting here if you want to flash on my setting

Yes i am usinng go launcher but with no go locker, and i like it so much that i don't want to change it. Can i change just a kernel from ilwt cm7 to cm7 without reinstaling whole rom??

Yes just go through installing rom normally it wont change anything
And change the launcher only to see if the problem fixed or not

I changed one setting in go sms, that asks if screen should unlocked when sms or any msg comes...maybe it is to good with not letting screen to unlock even when i want it to im still testing but for now issue did not accur...well see in a few days. Tnx for replay m8t.

I have the pershoot v1.2 running on euro DZ with stock sense since yesterday.
I can confirm : no issues whatsoever.
WiFi, bluetooth, FM-radio, GPS, Overclocking to > 1.5GHz all working perfect.
Are these kernels compatible with the US T-mobile G2 Stock ROM? Sorry i just need to clear it out of my way. thank you
Which kernel is included with the Virtuous 0.8 by default?

1. Version 0.8.0
4. Default kernel switched to Pershoot (based off latest sources from 12/13/2010). (Thanks: Pershoot, Cyanogen Project).

So if you like the kernels and are planning to donate, please make sure you donate to them and not us. The work we've done and continue to do to assure Sense/HTC compatibility is minuscule in comparison to the upstream work by the actual maintainers.

I don't use Sense myself, but I think it's important that the Virtuous team is recognized for all THEIR hardwork. As humble as you are in your post, you & your team deserve recognition for your efforts too.
Your contributions are definitely not without merit and appreciated by many, many people. You guys are important in your own way for making the community (G2/DZ & beyond) what it is, so thank YOU for your hard work.
BlueTooth won't turn on for G2 Stock ROM with both Pershoot and Cyanogen Kernels
Thanks for the work though.

No. Just Htc sense-based roms.
Oh wow, thank you so much for this.
Gonna send a donation your way.

Deleting my post. I believe the ramdisk needs to be different.
Hi.
Excuse my ignorance, but trying to find out how to update stock kernel to this.
Tried searching, but rather new to Android and there seems to be a lot of varuois advise.
Am I to understand that all I need to do is download for example the pershot kernel, put it on my SD and make a fastboot update? Since it contains a "boot.img"
Or is ADB involved?
Simply put, how would I upgrade my "old" stock kernel?
And before upgrading, how would I go ahead and backup my old. Nandroid?
Thanks for your time.
If your sig is current, then your first step should be to S-Off. Check one of the stickies.
Then the easiest way to go about updating the Kernel/doing a backup would be to grab Rom Manager off the Market and flashing ClockworkMod.
Thanks alot for the kernals everything works on desire z fine fm radio etc..
the only problem i am having is the phone freezes if i set the max fre over 1094 mhz on set cpu it allows over clocking to over 1400 mhz right? well i am a proper noob though so maybe i am doing something wrong? i need to change a setting perhaps? or maybe this kernal is not for overclocking ?
thanks
or maybe i am just unlucky and 1094 mhz is the max my phones cpu can handle since every cpu is unique?
Random black-screen on wake-up
Tried both 1.2 and 1.3, same problem.
The issue is: When I wake up my phone from sleeping( either using Power Button or D-Pad), I have random chance to get a black screen. It's special, unlike those "freeze black-screen", the "home,MENU,Back,Search" buttons below the screen light up normally, open the keyboard and the backlight will turn on too ,but not the screen, it just remain black.
When I press the PowerButton again, the screen light up for about 0.1s (I can see the lock screen) then back to sleep.
Sometimes I have to press the Powerbutton several times get the screen on. but sometimes it works just fine.
I have no problem with the "Unmodified kernel" from ROM Manager, but when using these two kernels, it happens again.
Is there any solution or similar case?
Just installed the CM kernel on my DZ with stock sense rom. Everything seems to work perfectly. Setcpu works great with it. I can OC to 1.5ghz with small steps.
What are the difference in between the kernels??
Using 1.3 atm and no problems at all whatsoever. However I would like to know the differences in between kernels. Does anyone know?
Thanks in advance

I can confirm this black screen on wake up as reported by jzhyok while I am test running right now the CM 1.3 kernel on my german DZ with unmodified Sense ROM, perm root, s-off.
I used setcpu with 1.5ghz and 1.2ghz with same results, just in case this could make a difference.
One more thing. My DZ instantly froze when I changed the governor from on demand to smartass in setcpu while I was at 1.5ghz with this CM 1.3 kernel, so I removed battery and now stay with the on demand governor.
Any fix for this anoying black screen wake up problem and any hint for the smartass governor? Which governor would be better, on demand or smartass?

[Q] Gingervillain v1.4 vs. CM7 RC1

I have a couple questions in regards to the two different ROMS. I'm currently running Gingervillain v1.4. Didn't update to 1.5 because there was a bug or something that I read into that made me decide not to update.
Now, with the release of CM7, I would like to know if I should flash this.
The main problems I have with Gingervillain that's irritating are:
1) WiFi Calling does not work
2) Sometimes screen does not go on after hitting the unlock button (talks about this being an OC issue)
3) a bunch of random reboots
But I found it extremely convenient that Gingervillain included an OC kernal within their ROM so it saved me time and research. Does CM7 have an OC kernal built in too? And what are some MAIN issues that CM7 suffer from? I've read in a few but I wanna know of the main things that will cause a problem in daily usage (I heard GPS had issues).
Get CM7. Nothing against GV but all u seek is in CM7.

I second that

I have no issues with CM7, GPS gets a lock in less than five sec., been using it since Build 0 and yes it comes with an OC'd kernel.
CM7 RC1 all the way lol. No issue at all for me

Been using CM7 since nightly #30 (were on #40 now). WiFi calling works, GPS now seems to work for everyone (confirmed working just fine locks in <10 sec), and I've never had a reboot.
I'm running at 1017mhz OC and no screen on/off issues or wakelock, although I've heard that people overclocked are having some issues here and there. I've also replaced ADW with the stock GB launcher and its extreeeemely smooth.
get cm7 rc1
Wow... majority rules... CM7 here I come.. LOL
I dont know if my gps isn't working or if it's just taking a stupid long amount of time to lock on to satellites. How can I make sure my gps is working?

1) using wifi calling in GV1.5, no issues for me.
2) OC'd screenlock issue fix: use Interactive scaling instead of on-demand.
3) (I haven't had random reboots on any gingerbread roms so I can't help you there )
not saying don't go CM7 - pretty obvious that it's a solid rom, but I quite like GV1.5 on my G2. it's snappier for me, even at stock clocks.
I run GV1.5 the exact same way I was running CM7 - same settings, LauncherPro with 1 homescreen and 2 dock screens and 3D drawer, 1113/368 with interactive scaling and no profiles set up (haven't needed to yet).
the main reason I switched from CM7 is that LauncherPro would FC every time I started my phone. GV1.5 fixed that for me. other than that, I don't think you can go wrong with either of these roms at this point...
plus, GV2.0 is fast approaching
I have a gray GPS icon in the notification bar when I'm trying to use it. But I've waited over 15 minutes without a lock-on.
Is my GPS not functioning, or is it just taking ridiculously long to lock on??

[Q] Arranging homescreen set up

I've got a short question. Is it possible to keep the home screen set up (like widgets, shortcuts, maps etc.) after going to an other ROM. Because each time i switch ROMS im ending up re-arranging thes homescreen set up every time.
Even if i update the same ROM, it starts totaly blank. Lets say i went from cool3d aces v2 to v3, then still the homescreens are set up to the basic form and i have to install and re-arrange al the widgets etc back to the way i had it on the v2 version.
With mybackup pro i can backup and install al the apps and settings from a previous ROM. But is there an app like this, that can do the same thing but then for the home screens arrangement. Im getting tired of setting this up, every time i switch ROMS
You can restore data only from backup ONLY IF its the same base for the rom
for example - New Base AceS 3.06.405.1 wih Sense 3.0 for version 1 then rom updates to version 2 but is still New Base AceS 3.06.405.1 wih Sense 3.0
Its fine to restore....
BUT if you can cope it's better to set up from scratch because it causes less problems down the line, it only takes 20 mins to set a phone up again anyway

Hehehe. I think thats debatable
I had 3 screens of tiles using desktop visualiser. I could spend aaaaaaaaaaages setting up my homescreens

[Q]sense has started rebooting every once in a while

Hi all, I've recently changed my kernel from Tristan's to bananacakes, and since yesterday have had a number of sense restarts (the launcher, obviously). Am wondering if this could have anything to do with the kernel change, or the differenylt governor I'm now using - was on smartassv2, and am now on smoothass.
Thanks for any help

SetCpu makes my HOX shutdown failure!?

Hey Mates,
After rooting my phone and installing SetCPU to underclock it so as to save some battery time..I created Screen OFF profile and a Battery level profile..
It works fine for some time(like a few hrs) but after that my phone goes down...I cant even power on it by simply holding the power button!
It doesnt show up anything while I do that..
I have to hold the Power button for 10-15 seconds so it makes a hard power on by blinking the Capacitive buttons On and Off!!
SetCPU worked very fine on my HTC Wildfire S...but donno why is it troubling me in HOX!
Has anyone else faced this problem? or what do u think is the problem and what would be an ideal solution?
Help would be greatly appreciated!!
Dont face this with setcpu, and there is not much info about your phone rom. But pls try trickster or no-frill softs to see if problem's gone or not. Then, we'll have more info for solution.
In case of customs rom, go searching in the rom thread if any similar problem?
Alternatively, reflashing rom might clear the issue.

oops sorry about that!
Im using a Stock Rom JellyBean with recent Sense 5 update..
Yeah...as u suggested been using No Frills for the whole day..no sign of Shutdown of Restart so far...and its working fine..
So..I guess SetCpu is the culprit...but I really like the profile feature in it..I dont think even the latest version of No Frills has such..
Would you suggest any app with that feature?? Or a solution for SetCpu with my current provided information?
Help would be great

- No-frills cpu has no profile function, but i'd prefer the soft as it's very light (small size) and battery friendly (not running on background). I can simply open nofrill to change when needed. Also, profiles are not really in frequent usage (the stock rom can manage battery effectively enough, and profiles even consume battery during monitoring the "if" conditions to be matched for activation).
- If you like profiles, go with setcpu. Try to uninstall and reinstall to see if it works. If not, try previous setcpu versions. Worst case, try reflash stock rom if no luck. My phone is also on stock 4.2.2 and no problem with setcpu so far.
- Trickster is more powerful with lots of settings to play with, but requires you more knowlegde to make the best out of it.

Screen off profile saves me a lot of battery rather than it consumes it!!
Tried with a stable previous version of SetCpu which used to work fine on Wildfire S..but that too didnt help..Same problem
How to reflash a Stock ROM? Custom Rom flashing is the thing I know ..but this is new..
And would changing kernel helps? If I should try whats a stable for HOX?
(sorry for the num of questions!)

Flashing stock roms are similar to stock: download rom and flash with custom recovery. But flashing stock rom is just one of some other ways to return phone to stock (restore nandroid backup, running ruu, flashing ota update zip..)
You can find more details on Sticky post -general info of htc one x, including kernels and many interesting stuffs (mod, scripts...) if you want to go deeper.
