With the S4 out for almost a week... will you get it now that you've seen it? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Now that I've seen the S4 and actualy got my hands on it and played with it for a little bit at the Samsung section in Best Buy, I actually think I now WILL be getting the S4 after previously thinking I was not gonna get it. Anyone else?

Not really since there's not much difference only slightly bigger screen and quad core all features are most likely to be ported to the s3. If I were to upgrade I would look into a phone like the HTC one or something but the s4 would be like a galaxy s3s in apple terms which is basically what they did lol

Lol idk bout that..

Not to mention that just like with the US S3, the US variant S4 only gets quad core instead of octo. Unless Samsung absolutely stuns me with the S5 I will be going back to HTC. I miss my Sensation, which was only SLIGHTLY less impressive then the S3. HTC doesn't give us last years crap while everyone else gets the big boy toys. Samsungs marketing strategy for US BLOWS. Change or lose me forever Sammy.

I've heard that it has less to do with their marketing and more to do with the limitations put on by either US carriers or the US chip manufacturers. I can't find the sources right now but I seriously doubt Samsung wants to make multiple versions of the same phone (it'd be much more to their advantage to make one version en masse rather than a few different ones).

I think it had to do with the chipsets used in each and the different networks here in the states.
And it's really not a matter of whether they want to or not, as I'm sure that they would rather only support one phone as its more effective and cost-efficient because the software and hardware developments would be made once and then distributed to ALL Samsung Xxxx phones. As topherk said, it's probably due to limitations set either by the carriers, or maybe even by the FCC.
And I'm sure you're not the first, or the last, to complain about the more minimalistic approach when it comes to Samsung releasing a phone for the states versus the international version of the same phone.

no because I enjoy my S3's 3G/4G SVDO capabilities meaning using data/phone at sametime and the S4 can only do this with 4G.....so hope the S5 has 3G and 4G SVDO..... must say the S4 hardware looks nice

this is a reason for me as well. it seems the u.s. gets a crappier version of the phone that is released internationally.i t may have to be due to carrier restrictions, politics, etc. either way it does not make me a happy consumer.
i hate my s3. i think its more due to carrier (sprint) and it's horrible "4g" coverage. I had a epic 4g before this and it blows the s3 away with data connection.

Nope sticking with my S3..

That last comment is ridiculous, I had an Epic 4g while it was an amazing phone it doesn't even compare to the S3. My data and connection on the S3 is amazing. LTE is incredible fast and excellent for battery savings. This phone locks 22 satellites in a couple of seconds, the Epic was lucky to get 10 on a perfect day standing outside.

Hmm... looks like I might be alone. And to add to it, I'd be buying it without an upgrade (aka full $600 price tag, after taxes probably more like $650). I'll have a bout a month or so before I have the money saved up.. going to Best Buy again today to play with it again lol.
It's either I get the S4 or a new basketball hoop, either way I' getting myself a nice present for the summer!

Wont be getting s4 didn't see that many features making me wanting to upgrade

We can't call it an s3s because the screen gets bigger and and resolution went up
Also enough with you noobs saying the octa core is so much better
I don't know the exact details but the Octa core is just a a strong quad core and a low power quad core they aren't used together
Not a godly super powered 8 core

And yeah, there's no doubt that the Nexus 5 WILL come this year, the only question is who will make it, but so far it's looking like it's gonna be LG again

I'm not looking at any phone really right now. My contract is up next year, by then who knows what will be out. I would never waste $600+ on a phone no matter how good it is. Lol

Galaxy Nexus compared to AT&T Galaxy Note...Nexus wins out IMO

It's funny to me, when I first took my Galaxy Nexus out of the box when I first bought it, I thought that was a large phone (though I didn't think it was too large). Well once I took the Galaxy Note out the box, I no longer consider my GNex to be large. The screen of the Note is almost the size of the whole GNex. Depending on how you look at it, that's a good thing or a bad thing. All in all, after playing with both of them side by side for a while, I've come to the conclusion that the GNex is better due to it being faster in essential things like browsing and GPS. I just wish the GNex got as loud as the Note does.
Here's a link to my brief comparison:
http://thesmartphonechamp.com/smartphone-heavyweight-bout-galaxy-nexus-vs-att-galaxy-note/
I also have both and like both! I love the Gnex because of ics , 0 crapware installed pure google experience.
But i love the note because of the big screen, long battery life, and lte. The screen of the gnex looks a little better because it's smaller. The gnex might be better for you and the note might be good for someone else... It's all about taste!

You're right, it's definitely all about taste. I think the Galaxy Note is an awesome device. That screen is tremendous, but for me it is a little bit too big. I value one-handed operation, and I don't really think the Note is very well suited for one-handed operation. For a person that doesn't mind two-handed operation I think it's a fantastic device. For example, my uncle is geeked about that phone and intends to buy it. I took it over his house yesterday so he could see it and now he's in love with it lol. He likes two-handed operation, so yep it's like you said, it's a matter of preference. Just wish they had toned it down with all the bloatware (the phone has a massive amount of bloat). Also, the Gnex shines with ICS and the optimizations really show up in the browser, as it blows the Note away in browsing speed. It really isn't close. I'm curious to see how much improvement the Note's browser speed will see once it gets ICS. I just hate how they will "uglify" ICS with Touchwiz on the Note.
The international note is faster than the Gnex due to the Mali 400 GPU but on the AT&T version it has an adreno GPU which is probably the worst GPU series of all major ARM processor families

I think too much is made about GPU's. None of the GPU's are incapable and run software and games just fine. They only matter in benchmarks...which really don't mean anything at all besides message board bragging rights. I think if there is fault to be found in the AT&T Galaxy Note's hardware it would be the processor. They went with the S3 Snapdragon which definitely isn't in the upper tier of dual core processors. The S3 has less than half the memory bandwidth of the OMAP 4460, A5, and Exynos 4210. Then don't forget it isn't even an A9 chip either. BTW the OMAP4 thus far (the S3 has already been counted out) is the only current gen chip that will be compatible with the upcoming wifi display feature that will be added in an update later this year. Heck the Tegra 3 isn't even compatible.
I'm curious how the battery life compares between a Nexus with the 2100mah battery and a Note with the 2500mah battery.
I wouldn't even look at a SGS3 if the Note had stock ICS and NFC. Otherwise it's worthless with TW barfed on it. The Note is a fantastic mobile otherwise. I do miss the notification light though.
(I'm talking about the international version. That 4 button abomination just released doesn't count.)
(I know I can flash it to whatever I want. I want stock ICS OOTB.)

I agree with you that Touchwiz is definitely not the greatest. I've seen the leaked ICS Rom and you can barely tell the difference between it and Gingerbread visually. As for the US version of the Note, I think it looks much better than the international version with its giant ugly PHYSICAL home button. Besides, that one home button is a little too iphone-ish for me.
I have yet to play with note but I have a feeling I will trade this guy for a white note.
It looks super nice and eventually they should have cm9 and that's close enough to aosp for me.

Let us not forget it is LTE. That ALWAYS makes for a fun time with new devices to aosp.
"Eventually" may be by the time of EOL of the LTE Note
True true... I wonder how many people left this device for it and are happy

Well I just played with the Note at an ATT store last night, it was beautiful.
The case didn't feel as premium as nexus, but ahmigawd the screen!
I originally wanted a Note but it didn't support T-mo properly so didn't import it. No way in hell I'd get it for ATT or VZ (both can diaf).
However I don't feel you can really compare the Nexus to a Note, it's in its own category, the size will basically polarize people. The interesting thing about the Note is that, pretty much the only complaint about it is that it's "too big", reviewers list that as a con - which imo is just dumb, considering it was intended to be a big phone.
I'm going to hold out for the Note II

We should know in a couple days, I would assume.
Had the Note (international) now have the GNEX. Don't fall for the Note. It's neat, but it's still a Touchwiz-y typical device. AOSP forever. I'm done with non Nexus devices. It's just not worth the agony of always feeling left behind on the software/functionality front.

You'll like the note. I loved mine. The 5.3 inch is huge at first, but warms up to you real quick. I just traded my international note for a gnex. But it wasn't because I was dissatisfied with the device, I just needed a phone that I can wear in a holster for work. Besides, no matter how much I like a device, I can't hang on to just one, I have to try em all . I haven't received my gnex yet, but lord knows how long I'm gonna be able to hang onto it once I get it.
I just played with the att note, brand new just arrived today. Its bigger than i thought! One thing i noticed is that thing is laggggy compared to my nexus. I did side by side comparisons in many major apps and the nexus spanked it in every instance. Lists just had low frame rates and stuttered a bit. But the nexus was silky smooth for example both scrolling the same search in the market, or youtube or a webpage. Must be due to lack of exynos? Thank goodness i love my nexus.

[Q] GNex or wait for GS3?

I'm on AT&T and wanting a new phone. The GNex is rumored to drop for AT&T any day now with Sprint getting it on 4/22. I've been planning on making that my next phone for a while now, was just waiting for AT&T get it. Then I started hearing these rumors about the GS3 being out as soon as the end of April, latest being end of May. Don't know how much weight that holds, but if it were true, should I wait it out and go for the GS3? Or just go with the GNex when it comes out?
S3 announcement is supposed to be may 5th in London (from memory, an event was announced a few days ago- its definitely early may though) so that's at least June before its in stores.

Some of the rumors I heard said that Samsung was going to try and emulate Apple's strategy and have the phone globally available immediately after the announcement. And that it's going to have 1.5GHz Exynos 4412 quad-core CPU (Samsung's Cortex A9) and 4.8" 1080p Super AMOLED Plus. Others said it's just going to be what the iPhone 4s was to the to iPhone 4 in relation to the S2. I don't know what to believe anymore.
Does anyone know when the GNex is actually going to release for AT&T?

Yeah, I guess that's my plan, too. Wait for the launch and see what it actually releases as and then make the decision.
The Galaxy Nexus is OFFICIALLY for sale on Google Play either thru the app or online for GSM customers, i.e. Tmo and ATT The 16gb version. No biggie
I was excited and still like the phone, although from Day one when I got my Tmo Galaxy S2 (which I love) some bloggers, I forget said that the hardware on the GS2 I have is better than the Nexus
Prolly true so I have to decide do I want pure Google NOW and also ICS NOW OR Wait for ICS to come to the GS2 I have OR wait for the next GS3?
Idk. between the current Tmo GS2 and the Nexus, is it worth it spending an hour or less coming up with an ebay ad to sell, then order it??

Probably less. But if you are anal or want it perfect, yes.
In any case, longer than it took you to make that donkey of a comment.
I know many a senior member here who would not post that
And from one member to another, and one human to another, if you dont have anything positive to ad, dont say it
You need to either lookup or learn to incorporate paradigm into life and your help here. How do you know one isn't on disability, maybe can't create an ad that quickly maybe due to physical ailments, or psych ones like add or simply can't concentrate. Like me
But I wont say all that. I will just ignore my thoughts, you do also, and let me thank you for your help!!!
Didn't mean any offense by that man...I was just legit asking out of concern. Lighten up a bit...
Anyway if you're trying to decide between a sgii or a galaxy nexus. Everyone here is going to tell you to go nexus route mostly because of the great developer support it carries and the priority it gets when it comes to google updates.

So iyho, if it is no problem to sell the GS2 I already have to get the newly available GSM from Google, then go ahead and do it even if the newest Galaxy will be out 3-6 months from now. (keeping in mind that I don't mind getting a new phone soon after) In other words, the perks of pure google and ICS are worth it--better sooner than later.
Thanks again

I haven't personally used one yet, but the general reviews all say the same thing: fantastic looking, powerful phone. Unfortunately battery life is mediocre and Sense 4.0 is a little wonky.
Personally I'd grab a GNexus or wait for the next Galaxy phone. The Nexus is plenty powerful, VERY simple to mod, and you can expand the battery with almost zero additional size to the phone.
Lately Samsung hardware is the hardware to beat. They're on a serious roll with their mobile devices.
May is only several days away. I'd wait for the Galaxy announcement and release date. You can make your mind up then. I just think it would be silly to buy a One X or a GNexus before seeing what is happening with the GSIII. Waiting a month for what could be a killer phone is worth it considering how many years you'll likely be using whatever you buy.
Personally I decided to pick up a galaxy nexus last week and have been absolutely thrilled. This is my first nexus device and I can't believe how nice stock Android is. Hardware wise, it doesn't get much better than the gnex and probably won't for a while. Quad cores are cool, but do they matter? The gnex does everything and you'll never have to worry about waiting for updates to the newest version of Android. Even the nexus one which is 2 years old runs 4.0.4 without issue, whereas much newer phones like the RAZR are stuck on gingerbread. I think the hardware is good enough at this point that the software is really what limits you. Just my $0.02.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
IMO Gnex for sure or wait on the next Nexus! Nexus phones always will have better developer support due to the nature and openness of the device and ASOP. For me at least that is the deciding factor.
It depends on how much you are ready to spend. Right now, the G Nex is $440.
When the Galaxy S III comes out, it will be about 700$. You will have to wait a while for the price to come down, and by then we'll have the next Nexus device.
Moreover, having the G Nex means you will have the next Android version sooner than Galaxy S III.
But if raw hardware power is what you are looking for and money isn't much of a concern, Galaxy S III is the device for you.
The gnex is actually now $400 straight from Google For what you're getting, I think that's a steal.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Sounds like the S3 is going to be pretty BA.
GNex is at the top of my list. I still want to wait and see what the GS3 has to offer, though.

GS3: To buy or not...

GS3 threads here and there, lets add this to the mix.
Personally I'm eligible for an upgrade now. My expectations were to upgrade from S2 to S3. After the announcement I'm left wondering to buy or not to buy?
IMO breakdown:
It's S3 (feels like going from iphone 4 to 4s).
NFC on sprint (matching competition)
Processor (although not clear, most likely match of inches)
Screen/display (matching to behind competition)
Camera (not clear of quality improvement over S2)
Everything else pretty much matching competition.
What I was hoping for (to blast past others):
2ghz quadcore or similar
2gb ram
12mp camera with better/improved lense
Thinner to match the thinnest
Better screen display / resolution
Close to zero side beasal/ edge to edge screen
I feel like Samsung is wrong in this instance of copying apple with the idea of iphone 4 then 4s. Because, there is no iphone competition or choices. Samsung's reputation IMO is on the bottom of the list... (a) released s2 on sprint with bugs, los, charging problems and it took them MONTHS to fix/ release an update. ICS still coming soon 6months later. TW is not pretty.
Now don't get me wrong, I like my S2. The question is $500 to spend on s3 to get nfc and processor to load an app in 1sec vs 1.5 secs? The software will most likely be ported to s2.
After purchasing the ASUS transformer prime, I realized what excellent product support really means (3 updates within days/weeks to squash bugs, ics within a month, no failed promises). ASUS is as sexy if not sexier thanSamsung.
Overall, I went from 100% purchase of s3 to WAIT and see Asus phone, evo 4g lte, etc...
Not too impressed, I'll see what will be available by release date and if waiting few months to get siik with another phone, i'll definitely be waiting...
If you disagree, that's great. If you can't wait to buy, great. If you hate me, thats cool. BUT. lets be honest, it didn't blow me away in any way or squash the competition.

You're basing your decision on the international version, when sprints variant hasn't even been announced yet. Sprints is coming towards the end of the year. Q3 Samsung will have the quadcore a15 exynos with integrated LTE chip, meaning the sprint variant will most likely be sporting the exynos once again and a far superior processor to anything on the market at 1.5ghz 28nm quadcore SoC with Mali 600 gpu and integrated LTE

Keep dreaming. No way they'll release it with a quad-core A15 Exynos. Maybe a dual-core A15, but a quad-core A15 is almost too insane to comprehend. Worthy of a new phone in itself. I'd bet on a dual-core S4 or Exynos with LTE.

That's some wishful thinking right there... they said US variants are launching in June so most likely we'll see it with an S4 and some minor Sprint mods.
Transmission sent from my slim n trim Galaxy S II.
Oh god quad core A15 LTE will make me absolutely die not to mention sprint is always in front of everybody in specs and idk it might be possible to cause a big wave them bring in the higher end of a high end phone but hey I can pray ^^

I heard sprints version isn't coming out til Q4 and the quad core a15 exynos with integrated LTE is supposed to be ready Q3 so its a possibility, just like sprint got the better processor for the ET4G, USA GSM launch is mid to late summer but cdma(sprint) is rumored to be sept-dec launch again. I'm not gonna be upgrading til around then anyways and I'm waiting to see what the next nexus has to offer. LTE hits my area in the phase 2 rollout later this year and early December my 3rd line will be upgrade eligible so ill have 3 upgrades and I'm gonna hold on to my et4g til then since LTE will be available in my area. The one thing I do know is I won't be getting an HTC, I'm boycotting them for their BS unlock which is still locked out. Especially now that instead of the "unlocked" water mark you get a big fat ****TAMPERED**** watermark when you unlock your bootloader. And htcdev unlock is pretty much worthless because you can't do a whole hell of a lot after unlocking without being tied to a PC

Maybe not - Rumors from Japan are that the S. Korea and Japan devices - due out at the end of the month - may have the quad + LTE. And given Sammy's home country status I'd tend to believe that S. Korea would get it first - Japan second due to its proximity and potential customer base.
The device in question - reportedly DoCoMo SC-06D - has already been benchmarked and approved by Japan's version of the FCC. So we'll see if it's really the GS3 or not soon enough.
If its not for the wishful thinking, the GS3 is not worth the super hype. Too bad.
I will have to wait and see what sprint comes up with for their version. I'm not too impressed so far. This will be the first time I can remember that I will probably pass on the newest high end phone sprint releases.
I might as well get it anyways

Either way I'm not changing until next summer - will even have the missus hold off if she can. Next device will be LTE; based on how long it took our MVNO to get the E4GT (March) I'm guessing the S3 right around upgrade time next summer. That is if we stay with them....
....iphone 4s...
....Kyocera echo.......
....galaxy s3........
Bummer
It's my phone...any mis takes...sry
Very disappointed. I thought it was gonna blow the GS2 away but instead is like a GS2 Service pack 1. With that being said....I still have hope for sprint version, they always make their different from others.
Cheers from Japan!
When I first heard about the S3, I thought, finally a quad-core! Can't wait till it hits Japan! I was sooooo hyped because we usually get the cream of the crop here like with the S2 with the exynos dual-core, super amoled screen, mali-400 gpu and what not. But then I found out we are NOT getting the quad-core and getting a 1.5Ghz dual-core which really burst my bubble. Was sooo sad when I FIRST found out about that.
Then I did a little research if you can call it that, on the specs of the Japanese version of the S3.
Well what do you know! Japanese version is getting the msm8960 SoC (S4) which to my surprise, spec wise, is the most powerful chip in the smartphone market! Benchmarks and whatnot show it leaves everything else in the dust like a bugatti veyron racing a nissan micra! WTF?!? ...... Dual-core??? LOL
On top of that, the Japanese version is getting 2 Gigs of ram with 32 Gigs rom.
Woooohoooo! Can't wait till the bomb drops!!! (No pun intended) hehehe I'm totally lovin my S2, Gtab 7 is ok, Gtab 10.1 Lte is ........... alright.
Sorry 'bout goin krayzee but the dual-core just might be alright afterall!
On another note, the first released S3 has the exynos 4212 quad. The Japanese S2 has the exynos 4210 dual. Pin-to-pin is the supposed to be the same.
Anyone think a 4212 in an S2 is doable? I know that some kind of syncing software is needed but what bout the kernel, etc.?
Any opinions?

Just curious, have the docomo employees started to hint at a release date? I have a relative itching to get this since she refused to get the SC-02B (another immediate relative had it, can't be the same...)
I love the S2. Will not be getting the S3 though unless it really amazes me in hand (highly doubtful). When the S3 was announced I realized what really matters to me in a high end smartphone is screen and build quality. Pentile display?? You gotta be kidding me. I think the S2 display is better looking than the S3. Why would you skimp on display quality? That is literally the most distinctive and used aspect of any smartphone. Oh and also the build design look atrocious. 2011 = IPhone 4s vs S2 2012 = HTC One X vs IPhone 5 Welcome back HTC. Dont know what the hell happened to ya last year, back just in time though. This is all IMO exept S3 screen, it really does look like crap (fact).

Every review I've read puts the HTC one above the sgs3, even if only slightly. Coworker has the att version and its awesome. Think I'm going to hold off till the jelly bean phones though. I'm really happy with this phone and it runs ics great.
I'll see what the sgs4 looks like compared to what else is out next summer/fall.
plus, with lte still it its baby-stages, I don't want to give up my wimax phone yet. there's no 4g around my house but there is around work
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
ya if I lived in a Wimax area I would be hesitant to give up a 4g phone as well. But I don't and Im taking sprints LTE roll out very lighty after the promises of 4g in are area for 2+ years and no delivery. On sprint s website they claim to have 4g in Omaha...but they do not have it anywhere here. Flat out liers! Thats why im jumping ship to At&t, I dont care about umlimited data, sprint will pull it once they roll out LTE everywhere. On a side note if you want out of a sprint contract etf free just flash a VZW prl and roam your ass off ;P

Sgs3 will be available on sprint by the summer. To sucker in the upgrades. In the winter (Q4) before x-mas is when Samsung unveils new quadcore lte on their new flagship nexus phone. Yes, it will have jelly bean out of the box. Sprint will get it as will verizon & at&t. I will be visiting some of you in the sgs3 forum to see how your jelly bean leaks are panning out!

Galaxy s III now or wait it out?

I want to upgrade my phone soon but I can't make up my mind as to what to get. I like the gs3, but I don't know if it is good enough. I have read some rumors about a new lg device at the end of the year, the ls970. It is rumored to have a quad core snapdragon s4 processor and everything. What do you guys think?
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using xda premium
I'm on the G S III now...and its pure love. You couldn't ask for a better device, personally.
Any other opinions? I'm in the same boat. I've pretty much decided against the Evo 4G LTE - it just isn't great enough. I'm leaning towards the S III but am wondering if I should wait for the next best thing.
The Evo 4G lte is right out for me too. The non removable battery is a no go for rom switchers. The s3 seems really nice but the plastic body and dual core are a little questionable. That LG LS970 has everything. I a better display, quad core s4, and a 13 mp camera.

I'm not due for an upgrade for about a year, so for me it's going to be a waiting game regardless.
I personally would wait, only because the US was shafted on the specs by getting a dual core processor instead of the quad core that it has overseas. The EVO LTE looks nice but as others have said, there is no removable battery so that takes away a bit from flash-aholics.
If you're trying to get a new feel for the S3's OS, I've heard good things about Mazdarider's remICS ROM (I have yet to try it, but plan to soon).
Get Mazdarider's remICS ROM
I was about to post the same thing Jaxp3r said, so I'll just reiterate...
If you aren't sure whether or not you want the gs3, just try out Mazdarider's remICS rom in the development threads.
I have been using it for almost a week now....LOVE it.
Depends on all you want to use, as I know HBO GO/Netflix/Hulu Plus aren't working on it.
But most everything else is...and it's so smooth.
Definitely recommend it for people who are considering the GS3.
Thanks! Does anyone know if the US gs3 is any slower than the international one? I want the quad core s4 but I also want to upgrade as soon as possible. Is LG any good at making phones now?

The G S III is lagless; I've had mine since 21 June, and its still flying. The quad and dual core version handle roughly the same, but the quad does have the slight advantage in the gpu department due to the exynos chip.
I wasn't planning on upgrading, but my 1 year old shattered the screen on my EVO, so I got a SIII. It's very snappy and easy to root, although development as far as ROM's ect is just starting. The 3G is defiantly alot faster and the thing reboots almost as fast as it would take my EVO just to get going again after turning off airplane mode. Good luck whatever u decide.

I would hold off if I were you. Samsung phones or cheap made. Feels like fisher price made it. Lg isn't much better. Unless they changed something, lte networks don't work well with quad-core CPUs which is why we only get the dual-core models. Not to mention the gs3 is just plain ugly.

The GS3 is solidly built, despite looks. Actually like the polycarbonate body, it keeps the weight down, and still solid. In my opinion, the GSIII looks more refined, and it was designed for the the screen to be the focal point, and it is. In addition, one reason besides weight reduction for the polycarbonate body was to reduce signal loss.

so i'm assuming your replacement phone arrived? anyway, what's the word on the ROM development over there on the SGIII? was looking for AOKP or CM9 and don't set them. are their plans that you know of?
Had to return the S3
I pre-ordered the S3 and had to return it because of poor signal quality. I was upgrading from an Evo 4g and the S3 wouldn't work in some of the places I live and work. The S3 is phenomenal, but it constantly dropped calls or was roaming where I never had issues before. The FTC has mandated that phone manufacturers limit the antennae strength, so I couldn't see how this would improve. So I am back to my Evo and sorry I couldn't make the S3 work for me...
I've read good reviews about the Samsung Galaxy S 3,i was thinking of upgrading to the LTE,but i'm not hearing anything good about it,so i might be going for the Galaxy myself.
Yah the LTE is no good for chronic rom flashers, as the battery is non- removable. The s3 sounds really good and the reviews back that up. I am just wondering if I buy the s3 if it will have as much rom support at the og evo. Also the plastic, no matter how high quality(polycarbonate), is just a little cheap looking.

I was in the same predicament. I have the original Galay S 4g and was wanting to upgrade as the phone was experiencing some problems. I debated whether to wait another 7-9 months for the Note 3, but ultimately decided I could keep this phone for at least 2-3 years before needing to upgrade (especially with all the ROM support that kept my old phone alive and will most certainly keep the N2 alive for years).
I believe the N3 will have a faster processor, better battery and slightly better battery but won't be 'revolutionary' (much like the Galaxy S4). IMO, it'll take at least another generation before the phone will be significantly upgraded to make waiting worth it.
The N4 will most likely have a smaller footprint, near indestructible glass and perhaps a flex screen/wraparound. To me, that'd be worth it. Until then, I'm waiting on my Note 2 to arrive and will enjoy it for the next couple of years. Plus, the fact you can pick one up for $550-$650 new doesn't hurt either compared to the suspected $899 price the N3 will come out for.

Ive been watching prices on Ebay and Craigslist and have seen prices falling to at least these levels if not lower for some models (like the Sprint version) in the past couple of weeks.
Not uncommon to find one below 550 even if you are patient.
The main difference is size. If you like 1 handed use you will hate the note 2. Unless of course you have med to large hands then it my not be an issue.
Things I noticed. I don't use the stylus or multiview anymore.
When I go to the gym I take my s3 as its easier to use hen I'm listening to music.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
I don't use the stylus either and often times I think the phone is slightly too big. I like the size of my wife's S3 better. I got the Note2 (back in November 2012) to be future-proof. With LTE around the corner I'm glad I got the Note2. If I was in the market for a new phone now, I would wait for the S4.
Personally I think the north american S3 is more like a S2.5 with the dual core processor and no LTE. The S3 should've had the Note2's quad core processor and LTE modem (Note2 is the pseudo S3). Thus the S4 is more like a S3.5 since we'll probably get the quad core instead of the octo.
As an owner of both devices, I would stay with the the S3. It's a great phone, well built, awesome specs, and a good development for it. It fits more natural in the hand then the note 2.

You do realize when the s3 released it was spanking phones with quad cores like nvidia 3 Samsung quad core.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I have both
I have both right now I am using the s3 because I dropped my note 2 and cracked the screen. But trust me you want the note2. It is definitly superior to the s3. The battery life is fantastic compared to the s3. With my s3 I had to be rooted and pull out every trick in the book just to be able to deal with it. The note2 has the best battery life ever and thats right out of the box. It is way faster and they already activated the LTE modem in it with the latest update. The s3 will not get the lte modem activated for at least another few months. To me there is no comparison its note2 all the way. I even think the note2 will be better than the s4 or at least comparable. I think the int s4 is getinng a crazy processor I think I misunderstood but it looked like it will have 4 cores running at 1.9 and another 4 running at 1.6 like ours for a total of 8 but I am not too sure of that exactly. I do know that the us version will have the same processore we have now and they are listing the same reason as last time that the new processor isnt compatable with LTE. So I think that if they have a note3 in the works it will get the int s4 processor and that will be the new phone for us note 2 users to get next. Sorry for the long winded answer.

that's because the North American dual core S3 has 2gb of ram while the international quad core S3 and int'l HTC One X (the other quad core phone that came out at the same time) have 1gb. I don't think the north american S3 spanked quad cores, rather it kept up. plus that was 8-9 months ago. My point is that the S3 isn't very future-proof.
Did the north american S3 get multiview from carriers? I know the international version got it and you can hack-add it to the north american S3.
this is a good video comparing the dual core vs quad core S3, but it was made in Summer 2012. I'm curious what the comparison would be like now with newer apps like the Samsung Premium Suite (mutliview, etc).
I worry the S4 will suffer a similar fate. By Christmas 2013 (if not by halloween) we'll see octo-core LTE phones, making the S4's king-of-the-hill status very short lived. imagine the apps that'll come out in 2014 that'll run better on a octo than a quad.
i would get the note 2. i actually just got mine. i was looking to trade my nexus 4 and cash for the note but i find alot of people were trying to screw me over so i just went to tmobile the other day and got it myself. anyways i love stock android and i said i would never had another samsung phone after i had the original galaxy s on sprint but so far i'm liking it. the battery life seems good so far but i'm wait after a week to comment because the battery needs to condition first. i love the multi screen view. i used it to get directions from maps and send them in a text. very handy to me. i wont use it everyday but its there when i need it. plus i wanted to get a sdcard capable phone. also i wanted to future proof myself since lte comes to my area. i get great tmobile service where i live. the S4 and note 3 will have 1080p screens and such and faster processors (only really matters if you do intense things on the phone. i have finally learned that) so taking this into account. i decided on not waiting and i got the note 2. we will never had the latest tech because its new one day and old the next in the tech world.

When you get a new device you're always excited over it. I felt the same about my note 2 a few months ago and praised it. For me multi screen I thought was awesome til I realized it is cumbersome as it didnt launch an app in split view right away. I had to run one app first through multi view then run the other app so it can split. And multiview apps are limited in stock form. Spen was great too as I like to photoshop a lot and that I can write notes and even converts my writing to actual text. Now I don't really use it anymore as I type faster with swiftkey than writing and i dont photoshop as much. Most of the time I forget I have a stylus lol. All the hover stuff I like but thats gonna be in the s4 too which is only a month away so as far as waiting, it isn't too long from now. If we're talking several months then that's a different story IMO. I think the OP should wait it out....

New to this forum, coming over from the Vibrant. Hello everyone!
I just got my note 2 from tmobile. Best upgrade price they could give me was $369, but by adding the phones to my plan rather than upgrading, I was able to get them for 199 each (after rebate.). Then I cancelled my old lines. New numbers, but who cares. That's what I paid for my vibes years ago, and they're running great still (on pacman 4.2.2).
I love this phone. About the only thing I don't like is the bloat, but it doesn't seem to affect it. Maybe I'll root it just to get rid of that, but honestly I don't think it needs it. Battery is awesome as it is.

Did the north american S3 get multiview from carriers? I know the international version got it and you can hack-add it to the north american S3.
