[BOUNTY]Lets bring the KT747 kernel over to the Galaxy S4! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Reposting this from the Sprint forum... I want this kernel as bad as anyone else!!
luis86dr said:
Greetings everyone,
With the Galaxy S4 released, many people will be moving on from the prior flagship device by Samsung. I'm opening this thread to start a bounty in hopes to bring a very well known Developer on board the next flagship device. If anyone has came from any of the d2 variants, you should be familiar with the K747 kernel, and Ktoonsez who is the Developer behind it. Ktoonsez is an outstanding developer who has innovated many creative things into his Kernels, such as a Auto Hotplugging driver, Custom Thermald, and much more...The options on this Kernel are endless and I thought it would be a great idea to try and bring him aboard. I've personally have spoken with Ktoonsez, and he has agreed to develop for all variants of the S4 once he has recieved the device. Unfortunately he does not have a available upgrade, so this is where anyone who is willing and able to donate comes in. So lets get down to it...
RULES:
1. No flaming is tolerated. If you are not interested in this, please stop reading now and move on. The point of this is to bring more development for all of the GS4 variants.
2. If you've donated, please post your confirmation number if you'd like or PM me. I will update the OP accordingly with all donators names.

Nice. You should have got the T-Mobile version!
The AT&T and Tmobile version are the same except for modem basebands right?
And damn, that $14.95 shipping is heavy.

it doesnt matter which version he gets. If things are the same as what he did with the S3, all varients will be supported in his work!

Im stuck with ATT since its a work account and yes most everything is the same except modem of course. Yes it was pretty steep, especially for something so expensive, think they'd give a guy a break

My guess is I will be releasing around 2nd week in June (due to Samsung's super sloooooowness) since no one has a release of the bootloader unlock yet. Only hope is 1 guy that has something but wont release till people get the Verizon versions which is not scheduled till 24th or 28 of this month and who knows if Sammy will hit those dates. So it is gonna be pure torture to have this thing and I cant even do a thing with it

Nice looking ROM, beans. If you still need some help with testing when I get up I'll help you out. Although I'm sure you'll get some Guinea pigs at a little later hour. Just a little too late/early for me right now. I'd be down to help you too, Tim.
It is 4:54am for me right now, I'd imagine I'd be good to go between 12-1.

Lol I'm very aware of that. But if you install a ROM from a different phone you can literally brick and not go back to stock. Either would have to JTAG it or take it to sprint to get it replaced. With installing ROMs meant for the phone are normally soft bricks which are easy to get through.

Yes but all US variants are identical hardware wise. As long as you don't flash an international version of a ROM to your phone you will be able to recover. You can port ANY S3 ROM from ANY carrier with just a couple of vendor file swaps. I accidentally flashed a sprint ROM on my VZW GS3 and it actually booted but was buggy as sh1t until I figured out what was going on

The spirit of Open Source is to share your knowledge and files with the rest of the world so they can improve on what you do when possible. This is also my philosophy and I would never compromise that!
You are free to use this ROM or any part of this ROM any way you like as long as you give proper credits!
Do not use my work if you cannot give proper credits!
Consider this your permission! Please do not PM me asking if its OK to build off this ROM. Permission granted!
However this does not include my CleanROM series of ROMS. Please do not use those without contacting me first!
This ROM is not a CleanROM. Its a stock rooted and all yours!
CSC Files are the files that tell your phone what kind of phone it is. For example; if you use the Verizon Patch files then this will convert the ROM to the Verizon version (sans the data icons) and allow you to access the Verizon Apps in the Play store. It will also set the APN automatically, etc...
This patch also has the correct RIL files and correct APK files, etc... To work with the Verizon Radio....
The patch in the OP can more than likely be applied to any 7105 ROM but I cannot assure you of that.
Please hit Thanks :good:
Enjoy!

Lets see what people say about this build in comparison or contrast to DMB6. DMB6 was a notable bump over prior builds which made it a must build on base...
Lets just wait this one out...
But I will say this... I have a three day weekend. And in a 3 day weekend... I have known to go on ROM benders and build like crazy
Added Rogers patch because its only a matter of time before someone asks
Do u flash the patch after flashing rom? Or do u reboot rom then flash patch?

I couldn't hold back and flashed DMC3 this morning.
My take,
Solid build f,sure....better then DMB6? Yes a tad , It feels more polished.
Transitions are a little smoother , Phones open a little bit more responsive ,battery life same.
Is build worthy of the CleanRom Touch? I think so.
What sucks is if Scott decides to run with it I have to rebuild mods lol

Yeah, I noticed the transitions smoothness myself. Its like almost, a slightly different fade affect.
But I like the fade a lot. Your right about being polished in that aspect.
As far as the phone... I have not decided on that yet because it could be the transitions masking the slow response. Have you turned them all down to 50% like I do and then test open speed?
If I decide to rebuild on this... Shouldnt be hard to port mods over. Should be relatively quick.
Not saying I am going to... But just saying in general
Lets give it one day on the new base and see what the early adopters say. I dont like to update bases any more than the next guy, lol

Oh yeah I gave it a work out adjusting transition speed , Multi window response etc.

When the first dev Is up to it and when we get devs who buy the phone.
Chill it's going to be about a month or so till the development gets flowing
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
Yeah, I agree with both responses. I give it a few months. This phone is still a baby (a big and healthy one at that), but based on what I saw in the Note 2 forums when it first got released, there's a good chance we'll be seeing TONS of excellent ROMS and kernel choices coming our way. I thought my flashing addiction was over, but I have a feeling I'm going to relapse and hit rock bottom when the inevitable flood of custom ROMs comes.
Personally, I am anxious for AOSP too, but I really can't say that I am hating this version of touchwiz (solely for the S Pen functionality). If one of our devs can implement S Pen functionality in an AOSP-based ROM I'm going to need to invest in a new pair of jeans, because I will undoubtedly soil my current pair.
Be patient, brotha, this phone won't get overlooked as far as development is concerned. I'm just excited to see which developers we'll get. And when we do, let's try not to run them off.
Sub question out of curiosity, who are some developers that you guys would be thrilled to see developing for our beloved Note 3? Based on our first ROM developer, jovy23, we are off to a very promising start! My experiences with his previous works have been nothing but solid.
My $0.02; Cl3Kener, ptmr3, Jamison904, gs2usr, elbermu, prbassplayer, thederekjay, ThdDude, ayysir, Master&Slave... The list could go on. Pipedreams, man.

AOKP with S pen support! I'm actually still using my S4 as my dd until that happens because I hate Touch wiz.
im ok with liquidsmooth or slim, they were great on my sgs3!
Give it some time peeps...
Note 3 brings a whole new set of hardware... Qualcomm 800 is new and so is the GPU.
U see things happening in this order....
1) Safe Recovery
2) Kernel (Probably with SELinux set to "Permissive")
3) AOSP or at least the bits of it....
I see all this happening over the next few weeks to a month. This device is only a week old peeps... it'll happen. People are still making way of getting the device. S4 was a huge step, some people used their upgrades, some people have to buy the phone outright... I happen to be one of them lol. Just give it a bit more time....

Not going to happen. The most you would get is limited support. For example just basic usage but not any of the advanced features Samsung added because those are tied to TouchWiz. Unless a team writes the code to add Spen features from scratch kind of like how the PA Team created Halo, which brought multi-screen to AOSP.

I thought you were talking about the more advanced features that samsung added like Air Command and stuff. I just came from the note 2 and AOSP only supports basic usage.
I just want to say that if there is a dev out there that would be willing to write the code for all the fun features that sammy incorporated i would be willing to donate for that. i would love a rom with a lot of spen functionality and that uses google now like the s voice feature.

i wonder if there is any chance of MHL out working on the Note 3 with an AOSP rom. It never worked on the Note 2
What ever happened to don't ask for ETA's? The phone has been out for less than a month. Less than two weeks for most people. Good grief.

Not asking for ETAs is like NOT thinking about a pink elephant. Thought about. Didn't ya. Yeah.

Porting Vanilla 4.4

I understand that the biggest problem here is the kernel, and that nobody cared to put in the required work for 4.3 since it brought absolutely nothing of importance. However, 4.4 brings a huge amount of new features, but most importantly, as many of you know, it has vastly improved support for lower-end devices, such as the HOV. I know that building a kernel is a huge amount of work, but I think that for a legacy device this cool, it's actually worth it. Will anyone actually go for it? khmhellboykhm
its not that nobody cared, people bought new phones and moved on
@bradthomas127 got 4.3 booting for the CDMA variant so I'm sure its possible! We will just have to be patient and see
I'm waiting on @cybervibin & @lilrob1213 to get it up and running and then i will steal it and post is as my own ROM just like i did with Carbon4.3
It's going to be a while before i'll even look into it, it will probably be another month before CM starts even releasing KitKat branches onto GitHub.
I've been watching all the trouble Lloir has been having on IRC trying to build 4.4 AOSP and i dont think this is going to be a easy process.
I have made a kitkat branch and have started doing some big clean up getting ready it.

Hm nice laptops, but back to topic, I would like to know how hard it would be to get working 4.4 into the HOV.
Also do you guys know why kids love the flavor of Cinnamon Toast Crunch?

[Guide][MOD][How-to] Edge Zoom Touchwiz 4.3/4.4.2

Edge Zoom for Touchwiz 4.3/4.4.2
- please do not flash the mod on any other build than ND8 DEODEXED ROOTED
This will add Edge Zoom for Touchwiz 4.3 and KitKat OTA 4.4.2
This may work on other TW builds but has not been tested.
AFAIK, this works with the stock TW browser and Dolphin browser.
For the Devs Android 4.3, in framework.jar replace:
For the Devs Android 4.4.2, in framework2.jar replace:
smali/android/view/ScaleGestureDetector.smali
with the file attached at the bottom of this post.
Cheers - TD
Also, for those Devs interested in adding a toggle, this guide should work with some minor modifications:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100012
YouTube video of EdgeZoom in use:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTQjcW4nPdw
UPDATE:
Added ND8 Mod (flash in custom recovery) and updated guide.
The stock ND8 framework2.jar flashable is here if you wish to go back to stock.
Already doing stuff over here I see, nice work TD

This is not a mod, it is a guide only. I did create mods for Wicked Sensations and MOAR roms however and they seem to be working just fine. The developers there will probably add a toggle to enable and disable the feature on the fly for those that do not want to use it when they decide to add it to the roms as a permanent feature.
Awesome mod @tdunham :thumbup::thumbup:
Works inside all zoom-enabled apps since its a framework mod (gmail, etc)

I know we're a bit off topic but bilgerryan, keep an eye on Amazon. I got my S3 last july for $10 and my wife got a S4 Jan 1st for a penny!
Now on topic, OP I'm really loving this mod. Just when I start to get board with my phone someone brings something new to the table to learn about. Thanks also for mentioning what you did about csc edits in the MOAR thread. I've been playing with them every since.

He is going with a straight purchase phone so he doesn't have to be under contract. Plus the savings is pretty big overall.
For instance, I have Boost. Right now I pay $50 a month unlimited everything and in a few more months it will drop to $45. No taxes or any other fees. There are plenty of other choices but I found that sticking with a major carrier can be pretty costly for the same exact service.
does not work for me, I
1- decompiled framework.jar
2- replace ScaleGestureDetector.smali with the one in the opening post
3- recompile and flash
did I miss any steps???

It is included in Cnexus' latest update and I posted a separate mod for it as well in the MOAR thread. Be patient, I think a new update is due to drop there in the next several days and it will have a toggle so you can turn it on or off at will also.
Sorry to hijack your thread TD but my S3 is ordered and on it's way

Yeah, good luck with that.
I think mine got snowed in and stuck at the post office for 3 or 4 days in New York before it finally shipped during one of the frequent weather events.
I miss my S2 though. I put it in airplane mode and it only dropped 3% in 3 days with the radios turned off. LOL
