Where are auto brightness -5/+5 settings ? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I swear I saw them on Sprint S4 I cant seem to figure out what happen to that in my Tmo phone

R u talking about the one on the pulldown notification ?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app

Yea. I know what you are talking about. I saw that on a galaxy s4. It is an auto brightness that allows you to adjust the brightness (half auto half manual). I want that feature too but I dont think tmobile galaxy s4 has it.

You also can't the brightness once you're below 5 percent.

You can do that useing this app from the playstore "lux auto brightness". I used it for a very long time on my old samsung gs3. When I really want to conserve on battery or want my screen much dimmer than stock brightness, that app does it. You can manually link your prefered brightness for each step It increases also.

Auto Brightness

Anyone notice how low the auto brightness stays?
It's too low for me.. I had to turn it off and use a mid-range manual setting.
yea I had to adjust mine as well.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
i never use the auto never used it on vibrant either.
Samsung always sets their auto brightness low. I changed mine to manual as well.

Just got my phone and coming from HTC I thought something was wrong with the phone. I had to take it off the auto setting as well. Thanks for the info.
Manual is the way to go. I have mine at 30% inside and 40% in the sun
When manual brightness is on, you can adjust it by dragging left or right on the notification bar.

i knew those already
but yes, there are still a lot of new people to the SGS family to know those TW tricks
I knew too... Coming recently from sprint sgs2 , just thought id offer the tip since was no thread on anything of the sort.. Its probably just same on all galaxy s devices with 2.3.5 ..maybe maybe not!
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA Premium App
there's also an app called "screen filter" that dims the screen beyond factory levels to help with nighttime viewing.
and its free
Id be carefull with screen filters .. Once i used an app of some sort that dimmed screen to 0%
Leaving me to hope i knew how to find the app on the black screen just by remebering where abouts it was

Auto brightness too dark?

I used to use a galaxy s captivate and now I'm on the galaxy nexus.
One thing I really liked about touchwiz was how you can swipe across the status bar to change the brightness.
Now on my galaxy nexus I just put it to auto brightness. But I think its usually darker than how it should be.
Is this how it has been for android all the time? I never used auto brightness in the past so I'm not sure if I'm the problem or if its the device.
I agree. It's too dim for me to use.
I leave mine anywhere between 35 and 45 percent and its perfect. If I'm in direct sunlight I crank it up to 100%.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I can use auto brightness fine, can even use minimum with no problems. However I set it to 50% so that I don't get some of the colour changes that amoled is prone to.

I'm worried about my auto brightness as it doesn't seem to work at all. Standing in a dark room and then turning lights on bright makes no difference. On 4.0.1.
We should ask for a change request to Google.

Used that fix on Android Revolution HD Rom, worked perfectly.

Screen brightness shortcut missing on SGS3. Here is an alternative

One thing I definitely miss on SGS3 coming from SGS1 and SGS2 was the ability to change the brightness setting from from the top of the notification bar. You were able to slide your finger left to right and be able to change the screen brightness.
I found an app called Display brightness that can do something similar and thought I'd share as I am sure a few of you might also miss the old feature. You can set a screen brightness slider anywhere on the screen and change its transparency. It works a treat to be able to change brightness quickly and efficiently.
Here is the link on Google Play if you want to check it out
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.DisplayBrightness
Gonna check it out, thanks
Holy crap that is awesome! Works on AT&T gs3. Thank you so much for pointing this out. Have to play with where I want it tho because it can interfere with the keyboard

Yeah its the best I've been able to find so far. Not sure why Sammy removed it from this phone but the app works. Finding a good spot to place it is key
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
Feel kinda dumb right now, I see the indicator but how do I actually change the brightness?
Edit: I guess the bar was too thin. Once I made it thicker I was able to adjust it. Thanks guys
International version just got an OTA update that includes a brightness slider in the notification pull down. As well as adjustments to the minimum brightness for auto brightness
just tried this, and it is pretty awesome!
If you set all the transparencies to 0%, it works exactly like the stock s2 slider...except you can put this on any side you want. The key is figuring out where exactly to slide your fingers to get it to work consistently, but once you do its pretty awesome.
AAAA+++ Sweet!
very nice find. Works perfect.

Glad a few of you are finding it useful ! I still wish Samsung didn't remove it and not sure why they did. Every now and then I hit the brightness line by accident so I might try and put it in a different area of the screen to see which is the best place. That's the only tricky part. It is a nice app though as an alternative.

Hopefully we get it in us versions of the international just got an update with the feature back on the notification, maybe they forgot about it
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Oh nice I didn't know that. I had the international for a week until I sold to try the LTE and just know it wasn't there on either. Also on my sgs2 one of the newer firmwares removed it as well a figured it was intentional and too much trouble to add it. I hope you're right

Can anyone confirm if the OTA updates on some of the American carriers added the brightness slider in notification bar like the update did on i9300? Or did the update only remove universal search ?

there is actually already code in the tw_status_bar_extended.xml for this. it just isn't active. i noticed it when i was poking around there for my theme.
Just download notification toggles app free from the market it has a ton of options. Will solve the brightness toggle issue plus you can add short cuts to apps, reboot menu and a bunch more.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle
Awesome app! I almost hope that the brightness slider doesn't get added to the notifications window...there's already a lot up there.
It seems some on i9300 forums are not liking the brightness slider added in a release and some are requesting devs to remove from roms. I'll keep this app for now as I think its great

I dont believe its actually on the pulldown.. in previous tw versions you just slide across the status bar to the right to go up and down.. i may be wrong about the new brightness alider though.

This is really great. It's really convenient to set all the transparency settings to "0%" and hiding the slider at the bottom of the homescreen - just slide above the home button to adjust the brightness!
Edit: It works on the lockscreen too - wow!

Annoying Screen Timeout!

So I'm watching a video (expanded to full screen) on the stock browser at night in a dark room when the screen times out.
I can't find any way of switching the screen timeout off, and have to resort to setting the time to maximum and having to reopen the screen and restart the video every 10 minutes.
There has to be a solution to this annoying problem? Please?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Is smart stay enabled or is it just not working on the dark room ? If smart stay is not working then you can just pull out the s pen from it's holder or hover with the s pen instead of closing the video.

U can found more from note 1 thread..
Not saying watch video can confirm the screen burn issue..just saying maybe it can cause life span of screen burn become short..but definately amoled screen can not avoid it..

Fair enough, but there is "no issue."
Why have this phone if you don't use it? Besides, full screen is probably one way to AVOID burn in.
What are you even talking about?

Yes, this avoids the screen burn. Screen burn only happens because some of the led's are used more than others which is why some degrade faster which results in varying color contrasts. Using full screen almost all the time however, uses all of the led's, thus all of them will degrade at a slightly similar rate and the change of color contrast would not be as noticeable to the common eye.

If you mean stock internet browser it will time out don't know why I streamed hell in a cell last week had the same issue doesn't happen on any other phone I know of just this one...I had to stretch the screen so it looked full screen and it stayed on strange I know

I'm having the same problem not sure why there would be this problem considering no phone for the last 4 years have had this problem. Terrible overt sight by Google/Samsung. Really interested if some one finds the solution to this.
Use Profile Scheduler from the play store it lets you set up a profile with a setting for screen time out never option. Thats the only reason I use it. I listen to alot of music in my truck and it keeps the musoc player from going to sleep.
Screen time out issue is only when watching flash enabled videos in browser.
Reason : Flash is not supported in Jellybean officially,
So just using flashplayer.apk will not rewrite screen timeout settings in system files.
And, smart stay doesn't work in dark room with lights off.
