Galaxy s4 or note 2??? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

People who have said theres no difference between the s4 and the s3 or note are TRIPPIN have yall held the device? Feels great in my hand went with my mom to get hers for mothers day. And holy cow. The features it has are one untop of another all hidden too. The screen is farrrr better. The way it feels. So Smooth. The besel on the side of the phone makes it look nice and feel great. Even if the note 2 gets the 4.2 update with some features of the s4. The s4 will still have the best unique features. I love my note 2. But as soon as I held. N played around with the s4. Man I might just buy me mine cash next month. Figured the s4 is the perfect size fits perfectly in my hand. The note 2 still to big . What do you guys think?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2

Well the main thing, if you feel its to big you will never be completely happy with it, and will be itching to move on..on the other hand waiting on development is always my issue when deciding what to do

Unfortunately, I agree. I like my wife's S4 more than my Note 2. It kills me on benchmarks with the better processor. The GPU is a billion times better. It can get 37FPS when I can only get 9. It goes through battery a bit quickly and it seems that a few apps aren't quite formatted for 1080 resolution yet, but that will change soon. If I were to put a kernel on her phone and UV I'd prolly get pretty good battery life too. I like the fit in my hand, for sure. Any smaller would be too small but it fits in one hand nicely. On the GN2 I have to use a nilken case that has a knurled finish on the back so that it stays in my hand. The camera is nice and the camera features are pretty cool. I do like my S-Pen but I've gone to AOSP for themeing, control, and speed so I've lost S-note already. I miss S-note (looks much nicer than Papyrus) but I don't think that makes the note worth having over the S4. I'm not going to drop coin on it though, going to stick with the Note.

I just got my 4 today I also have the S3 and Note 2. They are all so different its crazy. I gave my note 2 to my kid and I thought I would keep it until I started playing with my S4 and realized I dont miss it one bit lol or the S3. If you have a S3 it is worth the upgrade if you have the Note2 and are thinking of upgrading yes itsbway worth it but that is a personal opinion. The S4 takes the cake I am amazed at how smooth compared to the Note2 and s3 it is expecially the nore because its quad core.

Better than the S3?

Hey everyone I'm due for an upgrade soon and I've been looking at the Note 2. I currently have the S3 and I love my phone but I'm interested in the Note 2. What (if any) makes the note better than the S3? I don't mind the size and yes I will put an otterbox defender case on it and I know it'll look huge but I don't mind that. Also does anyone really use the stylus? How is it? Thanks in advance

The battery is a beast just like the phone also the multi view tasking.
coming from a galaxy S2, this phone is incredible

Battery life alone makes this phone superior to the S3. Plus, the S3 isn't running on the Exynos Quad chip at 1.6 ghz
I find the pen incredible useful, but you might not. If you can deal with the size like you said, GET THE NOTE. The bigger the better, right?
Oh, and multi-view is awesome!!!
I came from the gs3. They feel pretty much a like, except for the pen, extra screen space, and battery. But I finally feel like I have a phone I could actually make it through a 2 year contract with.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
The SG3 is a awesome phone and it runs much like the way ours does, only it does it with a smaller battery. You will notice the difference in battery life on day 1. The SG3 person can make any mods/changes they want to and the SGN2 will most likely out due them on a day 1 running completely stock with screen on auto.
Don't even get me started on the screen size.
I think the only thing you'll miss about the S3 is that the N2 lacks SVDO and is a little behind in development like no CM10 for Sprint yet).
The pen comes in handy to put a personal touch on photos.
Personally, I don't miss my S3 since I don't place many phone calls. I am happy with my N2 (could be happier with CM10 and Paranoid Android).
First thanks everyone for your inputs and second I'm due for my upgrade in January the first to be exact and I was told that sprint would allow you to buy out your contract to allow you for an early upgrade. Is this true?

This.
Usually I get tired of my phone in less than a year and am wanting something else. While it remains to be seen with the Note 2, I can say, I feel as tho I have a phone that has the speed and features that can hold me over till my next upgrade. Plus I love the battery life on this thing.
I just used my upgrade to get a note 2 even though I have the s3. I like the Note 2 so far better

So all of you that went from S3 to N2, have had no problem adjusting to the size difference? My wife has an S3, and we went to BB to compare it to the N2. The N2 is huge.....I didn't think it would be such a big difference from the S3, but it is.....Even my wife doesn't think she can get over the size difference. I would much rather have the N2, since I think it would keep me future proof for 2 years, but it is rather large...the S3 should be kind of future proof too, but I keep going back and forth.
I am sure the size discussion has been beaten to death on this forum, but I just want some fresh perspectives.

I went from S3 to N2. S3 feels so small now lol. The N2 did feel pretty big at first but after using it for a week or so, it doesnt feel all that big now and feels pretty normal. No regrets here, best phone there is IMO. I even take it to the gym and put it in pocket of my bball shorts (taking out for certain excercises of course). Just do it

Dang it....I almost had myself convinced that I would be getting the S3. My upgrade is in December, so I guess I will wrestle with this a couple more weeks. :silly:
I hear it's a great phone, however I see my coworker walking around talking on this beast and i can't help but giggle every time. It's too big as a phone for me.

I think many of us said the same thing, when seeing it on someone else. I know I did. I just wasn't sure the size would work for me(especially since I have smaller hands). But after having it only since Thursday, I can say I don't regret getting it one bit. I am used to the size and would have a hard time going back to something smaller.
As other have said, I think I found a phone that I could be happy with for my entire 2 year contract and not just the first 10-12 months.
man I wish I would've been able to have the transition from galaxy s 3 to note 2 like some of you lucky guys. or even the galaxy s 2 to note 2. I just moved from the galaxy s epic 4g after two+ years. yeah I came from a 4 inch screen to 5.5 inch. the adjustment was huge. but overall I am loving this phone. It was kind of a bummer finding out this phone had no svdo. I would've liked to try it out. but who cares? anywhere I go I have wifi; home, work, friends, restaurants, etc. get this phone, it is totally worth it. the only thing I like the spen for is using the stock browser. makes it a hell of a lot easier when opening sub menus like on ebay or scrolling down craigslist.
You really do get used to the size. Came from an iPhone 4 so I went from 3.5 to 5.5. After three weeks I don't feel the N2 is too large at all.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
3.5"? I didn't realize apple was ripping people off that bad. wow, I just looked at the iphone 5. a 4" screen? seriously? high resolution only works to a point.
at least one of my coworkers was convinced once I let him play with my phone for ten minutes. went out and bought the phone same day.

Samsung Galaxy S III vs. Note II: Sizing up
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_iii_vs_galaxy_note_ii-review-830.php

[Q] Did you come from the s3?

So I am trying to decide what to get. The note 2 or the galaxy s3. I do not mind the size, so that is not issue. If any of you came from the s3, why did you jump ship? What makes you stick to the note 2 and not go to the s3. Any ideas why the note 2 is better? Can you see a difference in smoothness from the note 2 compared to the s3. Since the note 2 has the quad core.
Gave mom S3 and bought N2 day one, S3 is the 2nd best phone out by the note does so much. I have a business and coach and it's size makes doing those things easy. Definitely see a speed difference, better screen. U can get us to the size I'm thinking of going bigger. Again get the N2 it will amaze u.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
I used S3 for couple months, until I hold Note2 at my local mall, they have Samsung expo or w/e, and after comparing the size, I decided that I can go bigger, and I fell in love with Note2 screen. After switch to Note2, definitely no regrets, smoother, faster, bigger screen.
I love my Note II. Granted, I didn't come from an S3. But even still, if you don't mind the size of the phone then by all means go for it.
It is basicly a SIII but its newer, it has a better screen despite its dpi being lower because its not pentile, if you are on T-Mobile the Note has 42mbps HSPA+ instead of 21mbps, quadcore, bigger battery, and of cource the s pen.
Like I said, if you can deal with the size, which you will get used to unless your hands are just really small, its a much better choice. But in the end you can't go wrong with either one of them.
I had samsung galaxy s3 and got the iphone 5. A month later, got the note 2. Never looked back ever since. Iphone feels slower. Like ten times slower than my note 2.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
I came from the MT4GS. When I upgraded I also bought my wife the S3. I do prefer the GN2 but find that the S3 is perfectly capable.
The gn2 is a tad smoother and the screen is obviously bigger. The s-pen makes the comparison a non starter, the note taking fcn is unparalleled.
The gn2 does make one hand use very problematic due to size. I am also paranoid about screen breakage due to dropping the device (this phone has stated to develop a rep for breaking screens). The camera is pretty darned good (though the MT4GS camera was arguably better). Viewing video content or games simply cannot be beat. The screen is beautiful. Let me say it again, the screen is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. Did I mention I kinda like the screen. Oh, what is this lag thing that people on other devices keep talking about?
I hate the usb connection between the stock charging cord and the device, falls out with a stern look. My TPU case also puts a bind on the connector but that is my problem.
I don't know that it's $300 better than the S3 (price difference) at the time. I didn't pay that difference (it was about $100 with the deal I worked out). I certainly will not be getting rid of this device any time soon.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
Came from an S3. And would never go back. Smoothness is way better and the screen is the perfect size. Seems big at first but after a couple of days you totally get used to it. Quad core and 2GB ram, and the Spen is pretty handy. Since I paid 350$ for the note 2 and sold my S3 for 350$ it was a no brainer.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
Sold my s3 for my note 2 with no regrets. Its an awesome phone for sure but I couldn't pass go the big screen and spen.
Sent from my SGH-I317 using xda premium
Note 2 is the way of bigger Doesn't bother you. I sold my s3 and bought it outright. Well worth it, where you root it or not. Fast and smooth.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
They are both beasts. The difference is the Galaxy SIII is the flagship, while the N2 is more of a niche item. Meaning the GS3 will always have more accessories and development. Both have 42+ HSPA capability, but the Note 2 has the true image and internals Samsung dreamed of. It is my 1st exynos device and I couldn't be happier.
I came from S3 for a very specific reason: GN2 has "hidden" full Trad Chinese interface as well as native Changjei and hand writing methods with Swype. Frankly, battery on GN2 is definitely better than S3. According to my usage scheme:
S3 lasts 3-4 hours before switching battery
GN2 lasts almost 6 hours.
Larger screen makes reading e-books easier while it still can occupy shirt pocket (Galaxy Tab Plus can't).

[Q] s4 or note II?

what's your opinion?
No one can answer that for you. They serve different purposes. It's not about which one had the larger battery or which one has faster processor. If you talk on your phone a lot I suggest getting the s4. If you really like using a tablet like device but also use the phone occasionally, get the note. I'm not gonna do a specs by specs or features by features comparison. It's simple. The note series is the most advanced phones out there. It has everything the Galaxy S phones will have and does everything bigger and better. Is that what you want?
thx, i guess i got the point now
I must say, ive loved the Galaxy note series and the note 2 was the best phone I've had. However, as much as I've loved the spen, the size really did become bothersome to carry around everywhere. That's why I'm moving to the smaller s4. If you are a professional then the note 2 is still probably a good option for you with its true multitasking capabilities.
Personally I liked the Note 2 and would've gotten one over the S4 if they kept teasing it. I kinda want a note 2, but I like my S4 (with the exception of no console controllers over bluetooth of course, for now).
I went from a Note 2 to the S4 and I must say for me it was worth it (S4) unless you really utilize the s pen, which I didn't. The N2 was getting a little big I must admit and I was missing the phone size phone if you know what I mean.
There are many things I like about the S4 over the N2. Screen touch response for sure has improved to a whole another level. The screen, although there is nothing to complain about the N2, is noticeably a huge bump. The cpu seems a bit snappier; I prefer the exynos anyday... Camera and features on the S4 rule. Best of all, better reception! I have 2 more bars than before at my office. Over all build quality is to my taste too.
If can... Go S4
Sent from my S4
I have both and use Google voice so I can use both as needed. I too was getting a little tired of the big phone all the time. I loved it for business trips because of battery life and the tablet like features to browse the web with a large screen.
The fist thing about the S4 that is significantly better is the screen quality. I also like the feel of the S4 in my hand. What I don't like is some of the software differences. I liked the buddy screen on then Note 2 so I can select certain apps to use with head phones or to launch when I put the phone in the cradles The s4 has a better email client but doesn't have text flow in the browser which really stinks.
Again there is no perfect phone. I would like the best software features of the Note 2 and the new features of the S4 in one phone.
I will be completely honest I always get the latest and best phone thats out and I kept looking at youtube videos trying to decide should I get either of these phones. Being the htc one or s4. I wasnt blown away by either phone and I was really suprise and I can honestly say that the note 2 is still the best out and im not saying that just to say it. The one r s4 isnt worth a 2year commitment. The one is better built the s4 feels very cheap the note 2 feels better constructed.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
For me GS4 doesn't feel cheaper than Note2, it feels lighter that is a huuge plus. Lighter not means cheaper, for me.
Also came to GS4 after Note2. GS4 I can say for me the same Note2 but in comfortable size. Feels awesome in hand. Pefrect display size, small margins.
Never used S Pen of Note2.

Worth switching from N2?

I currently have a GN2. S4 worth switching to? (Who has...pros/cons?) I have 20 days from TMO to make the choice, but input from experience would be quite helpful.
Reasons for possibly changing:
*Same price for more features
*Better camera
*Better specs
My only concern is the screen may feel too small, I know my TB, and iphone felt stupidly small after N2, But 5 Inches may not feel as lethargic as 4.3/4.
Goto a store doesnt matter what carrier then hold the s4 in your hand at that moment all your questions will be answered.

I've had both (T-889, I9500 & M19) and kinda miss my note to be honest. If you find the real estate the most attractive on the Note 2, you will miss it on the GS4. Another thing I miss is the battery life on the Note 2, that thing could last me 2 days without a charge. Overall the the GS4 is a nice device (my personal unit is the i9500) and definitely has some advantages over the Note 2 (full hd, 13mp, newer gpu/cpu) but over all the Note 2 feels much more polished. The screen is more responsive, the UI has had the kinks of the CPU/GPU ironed out from the S3, and the S-Pen makes drawing super easy and fun. I'm sure the development will only help the pros of the GS4, but out of box experience was much better on the Note 2, it even had a more "premium feel". I'm gonna stick it out for a bit with the GS4, but may end up going back to my Note.

The phone actually slid out of my hand once because it got so slippery.... like 4x actually. that glossy back body is a nightmare (I got a custom backing tho now)
Yeah, all the kinks should be ironed out with roms and OTAs over the coming months though. Battery life wise...Ive seen so many differences in screen on-time its insane in the thread in general. For example, I was going to go with the htc one...until I learned of its battery life (I stole a co-workers one and 1 hr 34min of screen ontime put phone at 65% battery - Thunderbolt moment, anyone?) I get 6HR or so of ontime with the N2 on Verizons LTE and since LTE drains faster...Im guessing I would get more out of the tmo n2? (Wild guess) - Sadly even though Florida is one of TMOs most covered states...I don't think my city got lte yet.
I love the N2, However...
The S4 is like a baker walking by with a more delicious looking tiny cupcake when you just got a huge piece of cake. not only that but... I work at a themepark, and 3/5 people have white GS3 or N2.... It was insanity (Mostly GS3 Dominant, but I could tell there were plenty of N2 Tucked behind otterboxes due to the SPen slot cutout) the S4 At least would be a slight step away from that...
If you are used to the size of the Note 2, the only logical upgrades in the future would be to another Note (Note 3, Note 4, ...). Note 2 is still probably more productive for multitasking than the S4. You won't need features like Air Gestures or Smart Scroll (which probably can be added to N2 in the future). IR blaster is fun to use, but probably not a necessity. If you carry a tablet and a phone, the Note is probably more suited for you. If you just talk on your phone and like to browse a lot, not do any real work, the S4 is the perfect size phone. I've had both so I know. I like the feel of the S4, and the 5" screen doesn't make it tiny at all compared to the 5.5" N2.

I mostly use it for just texting, and IM+ Is -constantly- being used. The only issues with the N2 i had was use in daylight screen was impossible to see for me, and it got slightly awkward handling it with one hand. I also use the camera a LOT for taking product photos for etsy. I only used SPen to doodle random things and send it to whoever i was talking to when I felt it was suddenly more convenient then typing.
...I will also state, speaker mode in calls sucked really bad. I never liked calling on N2 much.

I can tell you right now the S4 is not that much better in daylight, compared to the HTC One which is brighter. It's almost impossible for me to see as well with full brightness. While I could handle the N2 size in one hand, I find the smaller form factor of the S4 to be much more comfortable, hence why I decided to get the S4. Plus, I find myself using the SPen less and less with the N2, so I was willing to let that go. If they made the S4 screen work with an SPen, that would have been great (I don't mind not having a holder).

I wish I could one-hand it...but I basically have teen sized hands (short) I never minded the size because of purse. In your opinion, is the S4 Worth the switch from a new-phone standpoint (not upgrade) I would never go HTC after thunderbolt...esp since S4 has a better headphone dac.

At this moment, probably not. I would at least wait and see what Google has in store software/hardware wise for Android, as Google I/O is next week.

How do you like it so far?

I upgraded from SGS2, aka TMO Hercules. The biggest difference for me is screen resolution. Also battery life and camera have huge improvement.
But for the new features, like eye detect or gestures, I haven't found it practically useful... I have been using it for a week though...
So how do you folks like the s4 so far?
I came from s3. And its awesome.

at first i saw videos from reviewers i didnt like the look and material they used, but i went to the store on 8th and played with it, it actually like and feel really nice in hand and decided to return my htc one to get the black s4, pretty happy with my decision
Also coming from the S3 and I had my doubts at first but glad I made the switch. The screen is pretty darn sweet. I'm just missing my choice of ROMs to flash and not having Anthrax kernel anymore like I did on my S3.
Came from the S1 - everything's new.
I came from the HTC Sensation. I'm definitely going to stick with Samsung from here on out. I love the S4. There's a few hiccups here and there, but I'm sure as updates, and new ROMs, come out they'll iron that out. Love the camera and absolutely love the screen. And I definitely prefer the bigger physical size.
Came from an iPhone 5. I don't have to squint to read text anymore that alone made it worth it to me

Came from the Evo 3D. In regards to e-mail, I like how it fits all on the screen rather than move it left, right, up, down, etc. I must say this is a BIG improvement, but just like the E3D, no PS3/Wii controller syncs EVER. Hopefully like last time, cyanogen mod can fix it. and unlike last time, here's to less drama and such in the CM realm. T-mobile rocks the house and I'd recommend it, so long as you either order from a T-mo store or online.
I'm a tech geek, came from bunch of phones from my recent upgrade. Note 2 to Z10 to the ascend mate, to this Sexy beast. Next phone to try out is the one. For now, I really like every thing about this phone. The features, the feeling in hand, it just feels great. Fast and smooth system.

I came from the S2 as well and I got this phone last night, and I'm pretty happy with it. I don't have plans to root it anyone soon.
I had about every at&t amd tmobile phone out there. Last phone was htc one . But sold it due to battery life. Got the s4 n fell in love with it . Get about 4 1/2 hrs screen time , and all camera features are nice to have.

I made a huge upgrade from the S2 Hercules. I really love this phone. I havent had any issues at all with. I like to keep all those air and smart features off as I dont really use them.

Coming from the tmobile G2/DZ/Vision, and all I can say is phone is pretty awesome. I didn't have to root it and uninstall all the crappy apps just to make the phone work like I did with the G2. I did anyways, just because I like what I like. Overall the performance of the phone has been good so far.
I do miss my hardware keyboard though. I have a physical bluetooth keyboard that pairs with the S4 with no issues, but it's just not the same.
Having upgraded from an S2 I'm very torn on my opinion of the S4. Hardware wish I absolutely love this phone. The lager screen, bigger battery, physical home button. But from a software side this thing is a train wreck. The menu layouts are awful, the browser doesn't let you alter any useful settings beyond homepage, the lock screen widgets don't respond to the settings, and that settings menu is totally wacko on its layout, I can't find anything. I like the new gallery layout but it buys the images in an order can't figure out.
To be honest from an OS perspective I hate this phone. My s2 did a much better job.
I felt as if the S4 was more of a side step from the Note 2, Nexus 4. It actually feels laggy compared to them, which was a big surprise. Of course in games it flew but the overall UI feels slow and there is inconsistent stuttering everywhere. Sometimes it will be smooth, sometimes it would lag. Drove me crazy these past days using it.
I thought the 1080P screen was going to blow me away, honestly it doesn't look that much better than the Note 2's display.
I've been also using an HTC One now for the past couple days and I think it's a much better device, it is consistently smooth in every operation, the 1080p LCD screen is MUCH better on the eyes, it feels crisper, brighter and overall much more pleasant to look at.
I will be returning the S4 and keeping the HTC One, probably wait till the Note 3 comes out and see how that goes.
I came from the S3. Totally happy. Some were saying it wasn't a worthy upgrade but I say otherwise. Better battery, better screen, and just sexy as hell

Sound quality is screwed up, severe noise and crackling, I get it on my UE900's. Going to see if the One has the same issue, since it's on the same DAC.
So frustrating.
came from the S3, all I can say is I love this phone the only thing I don't really like is the keyboard
but other than that this phone is completely awesome!
