[Q] Amazon streaming with Galaxy Note 8.0 - Need Help - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

I ask that you please be gentle, this is my first post.
I just picked up the SG Note 8.0, which is running JB 4.1.2.
I own an SG 3 with JB 4.1.1 and have everything working perfectly on it. It is unlocked, rooted and streams all flash consistently, including Amazon video streaming. On my SG 3 I use an older ver. of Dolphin with the latest most up-to-date flash.apk, Flash Player 11.1 for Android 4.0.
My problem is for the life of me I cannot get Amazon to stream on my SG Note 8.0. At best, flash streaming on my SG Note 8.0 on other sites is very, very spotty. I am using FF 20.1.1 with the phony user-agent add-in, so it forces desktop versions of sites and have Flash Player 11.1 for Android 4.0 (11.1.115.54) installed. I have tried other browsers such the latest versions of Xscope and Boat, no luck with Amazon and no improvement in consistency of flash streaming. When trying to stream amazon video it gets as far loading and next connecting, which upon it loads a black screen instead of playing the video.
On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest), I absolutely want to be able to watch amazon videos on my SG 8.
Thanks much!

I think everyone is having difficulty with Amazon streaming, unfortunately. I think that Amazon may be blocking things. The following posts go into much greater detail.

Its world cup month so my question is..

Are their any programs that allows me to stream the footy on bbc and ITV?
man i just saw my mate with a nexus one streaming it in his web browser and it was smooth as silk!! his running android 2.2 though with flash built in but our devices dont have flash!!!
http://yamgo.mobi should do you
Pretty sure there is. My provider (Optus) sent me an SMS today saying live streaming of the Fifa World Cup was free for Optus customers over mobile.
Where was he watching it? Every time I've tried watching a flash video on froyo its been like a watching a slideshow.
tvcatchup.com works on the iPhone (any freeview channel live), but not on android
That other link works though, pretty awful quality but it works

No different to watching ITV via freeview on a normal tv then?

Thanks, I hadn't tried itv player yet. It's definitely far better than any other flash video I've tried so far, doesn't seem very choppy at all! The sound is out of sync with lips tho :/ but that doesn't matter when watching the football I guess

The guess have got it working on 2.1 HTC Desire, watch over WiFi, great quality.

Got it working now. However, keep getting a weak signal notification and then the pic stops whilst the audio continues!
Anyone else finding this?

[Q] Netflix - Fire vs. Nook tablet

In most reviews and comparisons, the playback quality of Netflix on the Nook Tablet is stated as being considerably better than the Fire. Given that both share essentially the same screen and processing capability - what's driving the difference?
Is it just software related? If so, can the Netflix app from the Nook be installed on the Fire?

It could be that the Fire Netflix app isn't streaming in HD, possibly intentionally done because it competes with Amazon's streaming.
Can this be fixed by sideloading another version of Netflix?
So far Netflix is only certifying devices for the HD version that have an OMAP4 processor (like the Kindle) and that have hardware security checks enabled (unlike the Kindle) for DRM and content protection. I am assuming the HD apk has some security checks that verify these DRM protections exist in order to run. I found this news article that confirms the problem here
B&N decided to make that tradeoff with their new Tablet model (since they don't have their own video service) but now they have left a huge dev community frustrated because the boot process is very securely locked down in it's signature checks, and custom kernels and custom ROMs will take a lot of work if they ever even work properly. I and many others would much rather have the flexibility than the HD video, but B&N is targeting the millions of customers who think the exact opposite of us
Thanks for the info. So as of now, to enable hd streaming amazon would have to lock down the device... I think I'll live with sd netfilx...

I definitley do too, though I'm sure they'll find a workaround in no time. I have Amazon Prime too, I can find a good bit of what I watch on Netflix (ie.Red Dwarf) on Amazon Prime Video, and it's included in the membership.
I was really underwhelmed with the quality of netflix on my fire. Artifact city, almost looked like I was viewing it over a mobile connection and not 15mbps cable internet. Compare that to amazon prime streaming and you can see the quality it's capable of.

That's already been explained above. Netflix's HD is restricted to OMAP4 devices with hardware DRM enabled. Kindle Fire has the OMAP4, but does not implement the required DRM.
Since Amazon owns the device experience, they can choose whether to implement HD streaming on their own device.
Interestingly, I copied my Canadian Netflix APK file from my Samsung Galaxy S (Telus Fascinate) onto my Kindle Fire. After sideloading it I was able to watch Netflix in HD (At least it looks HD to me) without issues. And the Kindle runs the app flawlessly.

Thanks for this app it runs well, but I'm not living in USA and I'm not able toregister a netflix user
Is there any possibilities to (register and) watch netflix video on Kindle Fire (reloaded 1.2H rom) from Hungary?
hm not that i know of

Now if someone could pull the APK from an American source and it'd be cool to see.
Wouldn't work unless you were in the US. The only reason Netlfix was working for me in Canada is because of either my Canadian username or because my IP is owned by a Canadian ISP. Trying to use the US Netflix in Canada wouldn't work.
any update to this?

[Q] Want to buy A100 for Son

Looking to buy the Iconia Tab A100 for my son. I have an Asus transformer and i love it, but wanted to get him something smaller. This tab seems to be a nice one. I wanted to make sure of the following things.
1) Movies work (avi)
2) Netflix works (without root)
3) any good "kid type" case reccomendations?
Thanks for help
Hello friend! I will do my best to provide relevant answers to your questions!
1) Most movies do work! Even in resolutions of 720p and 1080p. Of course, not all video files are encoded correctly. There can be wide degrees of variation in quality between video files; trying to play a 1080p avi movie file with an extremely high bitrate (much like how MP3s are in 128 kilobytes per second(kbps), 192kbps, 256kbps, 320kbps etc) will cause stuttering and jittery playback. But the Tegra 2 platform can play 1080p content. Perhaps an SD card with high read speeds could remedy this (or using SD-Booster to bolster the read-ahead value of the SD card) but I am not certain, as I have not extensively tested this.
2) Netflix works, albeit a bit jittery in operation (i.e. browsing instant play selections) but video works great. Being rooted does not affect its operation.
3) I have not looked into kid-friendly accessories, but browsing Amazon's selection of A100 accessories may yield a nice prize.
And by the way, I am selling my own Iconia A100 tablet.
Cheers!

Sorry mate, the tab has been sold already. I sold it because I found myself using it less and less after getting my shiny new Sensation.
Haven't tested sky video calling on it, so I cannot comment.

[APP] Splashtop HD on Nexus7

Anyone tried it out yet, or would be willing to try it out, or think it will work with the n7? If so, could this be the best option(?) for media for those with the 8gb model. I plan on trying it out when I get mine.

Yeah, I'm very interested in this also. Another reason I am not too worried about being limited to 8GB. It would be great if someone who has access to a Nexus 7 could test this out and share their experience with it, if not I will probably just buy it and check it out myself when I finally get mine. I'm interested to see how well it works for basic tasks, gaming, and watching videos/movies. My ultimate dream would be to stream my Xbox 360 games to a tablet like this, and play something like MW3 on the go.

I agree.. I downloaded PLEX and it's been keeping me looking for more.. I wonder if Splashtop HD will support JB and how long it will be discounted 8.99 (usually 19.99) in the play store.. I hope until the n7 delivers

Splash top HD is listed as not compatible with the nexus 7 but the regular splash top is. Also there's a splash top two coming out for android soon. I think I will get this with my credit but I want the kinks to be worked out first.
Anyone try it already?
I'll try loading up my backup from my tab when its comes next week

What's the difference between the HD version and the regular version? I can't really find anything on their website or from Play Store (other than "optimization" for Android 3.x or 4.x tablets).
As far as I can tell the regular splash top is designed for smaller screens.
I wouldn't mind buying this as long as it is still on sale when they have made it compatible

Afaik hd users will be getting free lifetime subscription to the new version when it comes out (at least they are doing that for ipad people). I got an email about it since I own the standard version. Seems like otherwise it's like 1.99 for the app and 9 dollars a year, which still isn't terrible.
i got the free version from amazon when it was the free app of the day!! cant wait to try it out
That's what I have. It works well and looks good to me streaming movies. That's one reason I was wondering what the HD added.

I was curious to try it out but the hd version doesn't even show up in the play store on my n7
The regular version seems to work, THD gives me a black screen when trying to remote connect, I'm going to email support and see if there is something in the works, because I am unsure if I need to grab the THD version or the HD.

I'm also getting a black screen on my Nexus 7. It is connected because touches on the nexus translate to the comp, it's just not displaying the video on the Nexus screen.
I'd love for them to get the THD version working. Playing big PC games on smaller devices was always one of the most exciting potentials of Splashtop, and the fact that they support bluetooth controllers and special screen overlays in the THD version is awesome.
It's especially silly because the Tegra tablets they made this version for probably didn't sell at all, but here's the Nexus, which has the potential to sell a whole lot and it doesn't work on it. =(
If anyone gets a response from Splashtop please post it here.

I had emailed Splashtop about the fact that the Anywhere access for free is available for any of the Splashtop "vets", they said that the new feature is unavailable currently for Android, however "we will provide the original SPlashtop Android user the free AAP feature. Please stay tuned, it's coming soon!"
So I guess this means that v2 for HD will be compatible w/the N7? Because it's still listed as incompatible as of this posting...
so should i buy hd now or wait to its compatible? because i already have the normal splashtop from amazon.

Which "china" Miracasr dongle?

Since IOGEAR GWAVR is no where to find in EU and in Ebay cost to much. (shipp+tax). So Im gonna buy a cheap china miracast dongle instead. But which of so many miracast dongle does works with Note 2014?
Considering these cheaps one: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=miracast&_sop=15
But if any know where in EU does it sale IOGEAR GWAVR, that doesnt cost a fortune and I will buy it instead.

Nice thread! I would like to learn a little more of this!
Please can someone share the experience ?
EZCast/ EZMirror ? iPush ? Some say can do miracast and airplay!
Can we have a dongle :
- HDMI and AV connection ?
- Mirror what's on our Android screen
- Mirror what's on iPhone screen
- Mirror PC/MAC
Thanks
Hi all,
My colleagues and I use this :
www.tinydeal.com/fr/hi763-miracast-dlna-airplay-wifi-display-dongle-for-smartphone-p-111836.html
It is compatible with Miracast, DLNA and AirPlay. I can mirror my android devices and computers screen (Wifi Display) and stream airplay on the TV.
Also, there are some little issue with some of custom roms. But with my SM-P600 (MK1) it works flawlessly.

I read that some requires iPush to be downloaded from Play others EZCast/EZAir, is it the case for this dongle?
I've seen some youtube reviews and it seems that visualizing video the audio is a little lag from the image, is it common from this cheap dongles?
Anyone knows if there is any dongle with RCA analogue output instead of using an expensive HDMI-RCA converter ?

Sorry, I don't really understand "some requires iPush to be downloaded from Play others EZCast/EZAir, is it the case for this dongle?". But I'm using the Note 10.1 2014 with the native mirroring service included. And on my computer I'm using the native wireless display of windows 8 (I have an Intel proc with an Nvidia video card). Some of my colleagues use iTunes for streaming on the dongle.
I've forgot to mention one thing. The dongle does not allow to receive all airplay, miracast, dlna on the same time. There is a little switch on the dongle for choosing the dlna or airplay mode.
My recommendation is to avoid all cheap chinese miracast dongles. Got mine from Ebay and it works like crap.
- Wifi streaming hangs all the time.
- Resolution works fine from beginning and suddenly it changed to a weird aspect ratio size and all is zoomed in on TV.
That dongle is collecting dust now.
UAU
I've decided to give a try and i'm just impressed! It was the cheapest i've found on ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371043321886?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Not only came well packed on an impressive case as it does exactly what it says!
Tried our Note 2014 (605), iphone 5S and a toshiba laptop.
I advise you to just look at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrzaLjA1EiiBiYR4VKCoZpA
It works just like on the videos.
@ jpl69
Does it work for movies and gaming? How the range?
For gaming, just forget. At least half second gap, to much for gaming.
I have everything in my room, router tv/dongle pc, android, iphone so the range is about 3m.
For movies, youtube is awsome.

Do you need to use the EZcast app or you simply use the built-in screen mirroring function of the Note 2014?
You must use the EZCast , but just to trigger the mirror function on the device.
