[Q] Push it to the limit? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I get to play with all kinds of fun devices at my shop activating GS3's HTC Rezound's Moto Razr's Galaxy Nexus and many others to pre-paid services like CricKet and PagePlus and GoSmart every day. So imagine my surprise when my boss GAVE me a brand-new boxed 32gb VZW GNex and said "Do what you need to do, here's the activation details. Keep it. I have 4 more for you to work on when your done."
Now I've been all over the spectrum when it comes to Androids. LG Ally, Motorola Milestone, DroidX, Nexus S 4G, Droid 2, HTC Evo and more recently the Evo Shift just to name a few. But I have NEVER owned so much power in a device, even compared to the other phones I get to play with on a daily basis, than this Galaxy Nexus!
It is running BEAUTIFULLY on Slimbean 4.2.2 for Toro+. I can't get people to stop playing with it especially my girlfriend >_<.
So here's my dilemma. With so much power...what do I do with it? Looking at some of the other devices you can tell that I may have felt quite left out of the circle when it comes to running high-performance gaming and apps without using something like Chainfire3d, and then having to compensate with slow performance and cut down graphics.
My current library of games installed on my device ATM are Dead Space, Beat Hazard Ultra and Peggle. I have a few emulators as well, and with the huge screen and multitouch I don't appear to have much trouble playing whatever I want. Problem is, what else is there that could fancy my interest? I've looked through the Play Store and found some stuff to look into but it seems like I'm really wasting the use of all this high-end tech. Could anyone issue some insight on what I can do to REALLY show off what this phone can do? Like I want to push this thing as far as it can go! I'm a nerd to the max so don't be afraid of offering any other kinds of customizations or tweaks I can play with too. I've got a clean record so far with not breaking anything fancy :highfive:

Mass effect infiltrator, GTA, GTA vice city, real racing are some really good ones

+1 on Vice City
I use it to wow the ladies. XD
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

haha havent played a GTA game in so long will most likely have to snag that one.
i like racing games and Real Racing looks pretty nice
Never played a Mass Effect game, even though i have ME2 on my pc just never fired it up after 1.5 months of owning it lol. will look as well
i also checked out Shadowgun and Gun Bros. 2 but didnt really seem too impressed with Gun Bros visuals. Shadowgun is ok. reminds me of Gears of War which i love
other mentions in case anyone is interested:
Modern Combat games - meh i have CoD on my laptop
CoD Black Ops Zombies - ^
Nova series - much more fun than Modern Combat
Galaxy on Fire 2 - GORGEOUS! looks the best over any other phone ive owned and sooooooo fluid and smooth
Trials series - nothing fancy visually but nice mix of entertainment and frustration
Into the Dead - again, simple visually but pretty fun for a good 10 minutes at a time
Offroad Legends - very similar to Trials...BUT WITH TRUCKS!
Iron Man 3 - looks good, but is it any fun? (the game...the movie was meh)
Asphalt series - look really good but cars handle like ass sometimes
Need for Speed series - much more could have been put into them as a phone version. really should have been more direct ports.
thats all ive had to look at since my initial post, but guys keep this going we should be able to find the real gems somewhere!

Games on the Galaxy Nexus [VIDEO]

It handles quite good and the phone didn't get that hot.
Hah.. It's not about me it's about you and showing you these games.

looks smooth - well impressed
now get a list of the best games and apps together
really really good
All I'm worried about is that the next gen games won't work well with the Galaxy Nexus. These games look great, but with Apple and other companies (e.g Samsung) pushing mobile gaming, and the new mobile GPU's that are coming out, ours is already obsoleted and probably won't be good enough to play a lot of games in the future

From what I've seen, gaming on the "higher end" phones simply just add useless eye candy and don't effect overall game play at all. I love eye candy, don't get me wrong, but I don't fear that we'll be left out in the cold.
With Quad-Core not even out yet, I don't think we'll be seeing anything that requires a "Quad-Core or higher" for a long time.
I also just noticed how the software buttons rotate depending on orientation. Life's simple joy!
Forgive me for not being so knowledgeable on technology, but I would be mistaken in thinking that even if Quad-Core is released, most phones won't even be able to utilise it properly for a good year or two? And by the time they are put to good use, all our Galaxy Nexus contracts will be up and we'll be eligible for an upgrade and we'll be hopping on the newest Nexus?
So quad-core doesn't even matter for a while even if they are being released next year?
Back on topic the phone looks insanely smooth, even when you had all them games open it was silky! I'm loving it a lot, getting it tomorrow
could you test the kairosoft games? like game dev story and the others?
on honeycomb if you used mulittouch zooming all their apps crashed. kinda worried it may be the same with the GNex.
The screen is good but until the games are updated 'proper' we will not know how good performance can really be.
The screen is really good.
I read on another thread that Gameloft games will not work on the Nexus, is that true?
Edit: Nevermind, I just saw the video and he plays 9mm

Exactly my thoughts. For example on mine Plants v. Zombies looks great and works great for a few minutes, then freezes when under heavy load (i.e. "Final Wave" pushes). It can't be the GPU or memory issues because other (just as graphically heavy- if not more so) games (like Tiki Golf 2) are perfect.
I just want to clarify how good that first game is?
Check out the Verge's Transformer Prime review http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/1/2601558/asus-eee-pad-transformer-prime-review
They play the game and attach it to a 52" HD screen!

Favourite game and app on the Galaxy S2?

Okay, so I just spent half an hour looking through the Android Market at the top games and apps, and haven't really seen anything that catches my eye!
Now, maybe it's just me, and I'm being a little too fussy, but I really don't seem to be able to find a good, highly addictive long term game.
Current Games - Mark /10:
Doodle Jump - 6
Blood and Glory - 7
Cut the rope - 4
Enchanted Realm - 6
Fieldrunners - 8
Flight Control - 4
Fruit Ninja - 5
Great Little War Game - 6
Gun Bros - 5
Tap Tap 4 - 5
Zynga poker - 2
Unblock Me - 9
As for interesting apps... I can't find anything :/
Any help and advice would be nice?
Thanks in advance!
I have been searching for that game you are looking for for over a year now and haven''t found anything myself yet.
Gun Bros was fun in the beginning, but Glu Mobile only wants to milk your wallet a bit more (that goes for all of their games, mind you!). All fine with me, but the game strats to drag after a few months of play and becomes tedious. It levels too slowly, or, to put it differently, the weapons are too expensive (and the expensive one do not even live up to expectation). I abandoned it after like three months or so.
I like the ""Choice of ..." series very much -- I'm currently playing Broadsides and Romance. I'm not originally into RPGs, but this is kinda fun. It more or less makes the story more interesting if you have influence on the outcomes, even if it sometimes is clear the difference is minor because the story picks up again the same way it did the last few times. Nice time-waster, though.
Random Mahjong for the sleepless hours (I use it with Screen Filter to dampen the screen brightness a bit, primarily to soothe my eyes since I have it plugged it when I''m in bed anyway).
Flight Control: meh. Fun in the first few levels, but tedious after a while.
Plants vs. Zombies: very funny, like the humor. Have played it on the PC -- great fun -- an enjoy it on the Android platform. Wish I could play it on a bigger screen, though: it wouldn't be the first time I scr**ed up on plant placement.
Virtual City: instant buy. Like it very much, but haven't been playing lately due to real life taking over for a bit. Have the Sandbox Edition installed as well, but haven't played it yet for the same reasons.
Age of Wind: likeable, and fun, but the steering mode annoyed me and I was put to the bottom of the sea very fast. I find the economics unclear and " steep".
Apparatus: reputed to be great fun. Installed, but not played yet.
Dead Space: looked like a winner (oh, the visuals! : D ), but the controls annoyed me supremely. Happily uninstalled.
Guerilla Bob: fun, but not for a the long-term you are apparently looking for. I liked it though, but again, way too short.
Robo Defense: immensely fun, and you can keep experimenting on different lay-outs and tower compositions. Achievements provide that little extra oomph of stimulus to go on and on and on. Had to wrestle myself away from this one for sheer terror of social dysfunction.
Stupid Zombies: fun, and a ''thinker'', but very hard on higher levels, which might be a put-off if you're a casual gamer.
Reckless Getaway: fun, but it turns out I'm a crappy virtual driver (luckily not so in real life -- that doesn't really fit with a motorcycle, now, doesn't it ; )
Cut the Rope: quite possibly a killer game for most of us. Thinking fast is key here, I like it very much. (I have to admit though that my 3.5 year-old son is about as good as I am. But he is astonishingly good for a 3 yo, ROFLOL!)
Great Little War Game: hard one, this one. Liked it, but was not 'steadfast' and sometimes was unclear what consequences movement would have. There is only an inconsequential und relatively uninformative tutorial, so you're left to fend for your own.
Not played (extensively): UNO, Siegecraft, Virtual City Sandbox Edition.
Hope that helps a bit.

i'm currently addicted to Where's My Water ... it's really fun to play
If your looking for a long term game to play like op on laptop or pc like fifa or warcraft or aion or need for speed there ar none to few...the gameplay on android device is limited by your own taist ,like marty allready told @ some game's controls ar badass.
Deadspace and Nova2 hd ar the taste for eyes but a hate for controls
Eart and Ledgend and Samurai2 and Third blade free ar for rpg less graphical lust for eyes but controls ar way better
Sleepy Jack and Cordy and sonic4 and windup kight and snowpro ar good/oke but also simple gameplay
And for app's depend on what your using your phone for howe old you ar and where you live
I am a plumber/central heating and work on new and renovation buildingsite's so for my work i use extreme alarm clock to set alarm ,tiny flashlight for in the dark and calculator for..and business calander and fm radio
For fun i use plume for twitter ,friendcaster pro for facebook ,skype and chaton to talk and text with home or friends and some dutch app's.
For practical use a have 1tap cleaner ,documents to go ,advanced task killer ,Dr.web(for security) ,igo8 to not get lost here in europe ,my data manager for 3g ,total recall for sgs2 to record my call's ,tunein radio when i am home over wifi ,weather and toggle widget ,weather pro ,shopsavvy as barcode scanner while shopping ,dish pointer for when i am on grand prix sidecarcross camping and having truble with my satelite reciver to watch tv.
Greats mike
I will end this noooow! Cartoon wars! Its suuuuuuuuuper addictive!! . Please try it.

A few I like
Windup knight
World of Goo
Backstab
Nova 2
Dungeon hunter 2
Hero of Sparta
They are all battery killer though (especially the gameloft games), so take that into consideration when you still have half a day to go before recharge.

Your favorite games?

Just attempting to see what's out there. I'm loving Angry Birds Space, Sonic CD, Dead Space, etc. Problem is, the marketplace is really difficult to find anything else worthwhile outside of looking at the "Top Paid" or "Top Free" menus. That's great and all, but it's basically impossible to see what else is available.
So, what are you favorite games? I'm hoping to fall in love with something I've never heard of.
Also, is there a site similar to "Touch Arcade" dedicated to Android gaming? I'm assuming Android gaming isn't as popular, but you never know. This is basically my dedicated handheld system now so yeah... Trying to get the most out of it. Really happy so far though. 4.6" makes gaming with onscreen controls so much better...
Some of he best games out right now Imo and off the top of my head....

I've found Bloons TD5 to completely turn the phone into molasses.

As someone who uses his devices for gaming extensively, I can assure you that gaming on your Note 2 would be a great experiance. I have tried almost every high end game in the market on N7100, and till now have not experianced any sort of lag or any other problems. NOVA 2,3, Shadowgun, GTA Vice City Modern Combat 2,3, NFS Most Wanted, Dead Space, Backstab, Dead Trigger, BIA2, Virtua Tennis etc and originally PC games like Max Payne and GTA 3 etc all run very smoothly. The only problem I have yet had is with MC 4, but I think it's only because of a script I am running and not the fault of the device. I have also heard that there are problems with Asphalt 7 but as I had played it a lot on my Tab 2 I am not really interested in downloading it again.
My theory is that one shouldn't hold the most powerful mobile device in the world in his hand if he has no interests in gaming By the time I am done with this device I will have had my money's worth

Those who help noobs go to heaven. True story.
As said above, all games I have played run amazing on the N2. It's a great gaming 'phablet'. I have heard Asphalt 7 and MC4 are running a tad slow, but MC4 is having this issue on other high end phones as well. I will try MC4 very soon...
the two main games ive got on my note 2 are wild blood and nfs most wanted.
with nfs most wanted, the framerates are much more playable compared to my nexus 7. however, its still note quite at 60fps. it generally depends on the amount of action, but early game, it sticks pretty close to 60fps. late game, when you start having lots of high speed cars on screen, along with police in corvettes and road blocks, i've seen it drop down to 25fps. its still far more playable compared to my nexus 7 (nexus 7 drops to around 7-15fps around some of these parts), but its still a notable drop.
that being said, i do come from a PC gaming background, and i've got my computer set up so it never drops below 60fps at max settings, which is the only reason why i notice most of the drops and stutters. for most people, it will probably still seem really slow.
as for wild blood, havent played it much, but it seems to run at a fairly low framerate (lower compared to nfs mw anyhow). still playable though.
compared to my note 1 and nexus 7 though, the note 2 is a much better device. much more oomph, a lot less stutter, a lot less lag, much more responsive overall.

I have nfs just to test out this phone and honestly I was totally expecting it to run 100% smoothly considering the ranting and raving of this device, not to mention the heavy dollar amount for a 16 gig phone. I am thoroughly impressed with it. Seems to me that gameloft is the only company making games that can really test the phone so they can expect some profit now that they have something that works with their games. Only thing I don't like about the phone is not the largeness but rather the fact that everything downloaded goes straight to the internal memory, including picture downloads etc. So I have to go to the computer and manually transport it to the sd card but that's a small drawback for me.

if youre talking about picture downloads from the browser, go into the browser, settings, advanced, and change the default storage.
you can also set the camera to default storage to the memory card, but this only works for individual snaps. burst snaps will save to internal memory by default (to avoid slow memory cards slowing down the burst rate), and you'll have to move them later.
MC4 runs flawless on my device.

In the game thread, someone said it didn't look good. I was planning to just play it on my Note 2, but it looks great on my N7 FHD, so I haven't even played it in my Note 2 yet. I've installed it on it, I'll try it to compare, but it really does look AWESOME on my N7 FHD!! I actually played for hours earlier! ZERO complaints!!! Well worth more than the .99 price tag!!
SwiftKey'ed from my '13 Nexus 7 FHD using XDA Premium HD
Just downloaded it yesterday. Well worth the .99 price. It was smooth most of the time, although there are a few times when it's glitchy. Also I didn't think the graphics were as "good" as promised. Shadowgun/Dead Trigger on my old Nexus 7 had them much better.
Nice. Worth the 99 cents indeed!
I was looking forward to the release of Asphalt 8 so when I woke up yesterday morning, I checked the app store immediately to see if it was there; sure enough it was! I downloaded it and played it all throughout the day. Overall, it is a great improvement over Asphalt 7, but I am still just not fond of the menu system. I actually kind of prefer the simplicity of the menus from A7.
Graphically, a good amount of improvement and the nice thing is you can adjust the graphical settings. I like that games have been providing this option. As far as the graphics compared to Real Racing 3, I think they are on equal grounds. RR3 is a more realistic-looking game with overall bland racing environments and some really bad aliasing, but A8 uses real cars in a more arcade, vivid environment and it doesn't have nearly as bad of aliasing. One aspect that I am not quite as pleased on is the framerate. It's just not as fluid as Asphalt 7 on the N7 FHD. Of course, this is likely due to the increase in graphical improvements made and that I am playing on the high graphics setting, but that's partially why we got this game right? I think they'll further optimize the game so this will be less of an issue. I have run this both on my HTC One and my N7 FHD and it runs better on the N7.
Still, I am have a blast playing it and, despite the couple of quibbles I mentioned, the game is better the its predecessor.
This game is great, online is great too.
Bought the game today. It runs really smooth and it looks really great on the n7. Gameloft did really well on this game. I'm enjoying every second of it. And for only €0.89 it was well worth the price. Haven't tried online yet though.
I definitely recommend the game. You won't regret it!

Ive had fun playing games on devices such as riptide gp 2 but this is the first time ive played a game and was literally smiling, yelling at my screen the entire time. Gameplay is amazing, music works extremely well, graphics are impressive. Not a single complaint. Well worth the 99 cents i paid for it
