Optimus G Pro lag? - LG Optimus G Pro

I really hate to start a lag thread, but I am curious if others are experiencing this or if my phone is subpar component wise.
In initially playing with the phone, it was immediately snappy feeling. Everything ran great without stutters or lag input. Then about half way through the first day with it (the 12th of may) I noticed about a 30 fps drop when doing anything. It lasted for maybe 30 seconds the first time. Then I started paying attention and noticed it would do this up to a few times an hour at completely random times. It doesn't matter if I'm in the Web browser or scrolling through home screens (though I tend to see it more often there) I get the random lag.
The rest of the time the phone is extremely satisfying but I can't help feel like this Has to be fixed if it is indeed a software issue.
What I would like is some input from OG Pro owners, both root and non root, to determine if the issue is based on that factor and how widespread the issue is. My first guess is that the cpu is lowering its clock speed and turning off cores at inappropriate times due to kernel settings. My fear is that my hardware is lame and I need to know so I can rma the phone. My absolute worst fear is that this is a software glitch that won't get ironed out because of our locked bootloader and/or slow LG updates.
Please let me know your experiences or if you have something different.

I've tried to make this phone lag by haveing qslide apps open and switching between landscape and portrait and barely got a stutter. I rooted this morning and restored all my apps using titanium backup and with 262 apps installed I havent dropped below 350mb ram free and there is only a touch of lag when apps first open, buttery smooth after that, and this is with quad core control on. It definately sounds like u got a defective device.

Well, that's actually good to hear. I still have a week and a half to exchange it. If like to be sure before exchanging it off course but it should be easy considering I manage an at&t shop
Like I said, I get it totally randomly. Doesn't matter if I have no apps open or a ton open. How long have you had yours for?

Picked mine up like 10am friday morning ive been putting this thing through its paces and the only time its really lagged for me is with the quickmemo overlay on with qslide apps running. Gaming, streaming, and multitasking have all been flawless.

Well, it's starting to look like I'm going to exchange it tomorrow then. I've already factory reset it twice now so it's nothing I've done. Especially since I noticed it before I even installed any apps.
This is the first time I've ever swapped a phone because of lag though. I guess maybe the processor or gpu is just acting up?

Before you return it do some more testing. In all honestly it sounds line you have a memory leak. Start freezing apps one by one until the lagging stops. Once the lagging stops restore all your apps except for your last one you froze. Then you know what app has the memory leak

As a further note, my free ram is usually around 350 - 500 mb. Is this what others are seeing and if I had a memory leak bad enough to cause lag wouldn't I have less ram available? Thanks again guys. I'm no noob but this is the first time I've experienced lag on a brand new phone that no one else was experiencing.

I don't have a pro but for a phone with 2gb of ram 300mb is low but not lie enough to worry. Android is based off of Linux n the more things in the ram is better unlike on Windows when you want as much ram as possible free.
A memory leak doesn't necessarily mean its going to eat up all your ram. There's a front side bus that controls the speed of the RAM. If the fsb is clogged up it's like driving threw a traffic jam on the highway.

That makes perfect sense. I've got way too many apps to freeze them one by one. The problem crops up a few times an hour so it could take me days of constant freezing to solve it. I'll factory restore and leave all apps off. If the issue persists after a reset then I'll try lgnpst then an exchange.
Thanks again for the help.

If you don't experience lag with out your apps installed then you know its one of your apps causing the lag. If the lag is present without your apps start freezing system apps. If it is indeed caused by a memory leak then getting a new phone ain't gonna solve the issue.

OK so I know pie devices get relatively hot, but when just having my screen on and typing on here or using root explorer it goes up to some 90 degrees. And it just concerns me because my galaxy s2 hardly guys 90 even while playing intensive games.
I'm just curious if 90 is normal or if I should get a new device through warranty.

In my experience this generally hapoens either after a new rom flash or just at random (seemingly). But it has always eventually calmed down and stays cool after that.
I suspect it is searching for mor something....like updating libraries of songs and whatnot. Seems like it occasionally gets stuck and when you add additional load it easilyy heats up. Try using Show CPU Use in dev options and keep an eye on the top few processes while it heats up. May give you an idea as to the real cause.

Just curious if anyone on this forum has noticed a real difference with using seeder? I've only tried the apk, not the flash able zip (not sure if that matters) but I can't say that I've noticed any real lag reduction. Anyone else have any opinions as far as seeder on the note 2 goes?
I've noticed an increase in responsiveness and also noticed that my phone didn't go into deep sleep, and the battery was drained incommensurably.

I am now of the opinion that it doesn't speed up my i717. In fact, I think it's been screwing around with my toggles on the notification screen under Padawan4 ics rom. I can't get them to respond for at least 30 seconds.
My launcher and app drawer seemed to be more responsive but battery seemed to drain by keeping the io ramped up like the xda news said .

Isent there some issue with that? Samsung made it like that for a reason... no?

I'll agree with Google when they say it's a placebo -- I tried it and didn't notice a noticeable change.

First hiccup in two months with my Note2!

Well, it happened, I experienced the first real freezing up yesterday. Everything just became un responsive while on a call, trying to end a call, the person I called couldn't hear me but I showed 3 bars of signal then the dialer froze up and I had to pull the battery out to restart the device. Same exact thing happened on my Mom's note2 today. I can't believe anything could cause this phone to stutter so badly. My phone is stock rooted T Mobile ROM. My mom's is totally stock.
I know all electronics can have the occasional hiccup. Anyone else have this happen? Don't get me wrong, I totally love this phone, gps is solid, navigation got me to a location in an unfamiliar area when I was a bit lost. Google maps had one place on the wrong side of the street 800 ft from it's actual location but I can't be certain if it was a clear night. There was rain in the area.
As I said first hiccup in two months.

Could you please say it again? I couldn't understand if you have a problem with your phone or not.
Sounds like a common application that is installed on both your and your Mom's Note IIs experienced a small problem. Check Notifications to see what may have updated on both phones.
Its really hard to know what causes the freezing as we install different apps everyday. It can be from some apps we just installed or from something else. Luckily for me, I haven't had anything like that since I got this in Oct. 2012. I rooted mine in December but with stock ROM and still perform as great as before.
I usually restart my phone weekly. Its just like something that I used to do in all my old phones. Maybe it helps freeing up some memory.
Some of you root the phone only to keep the stock ROM and stock Kernel, etc.
The phone really does not need it.
Unless you are looking to modify the unit by over clocking it and changing the stock ROM to something exotic, there is no need to root the Note II.
When you flash changes to the unit, there are going to be bugs and other things that pop up now and then.
I have a Sensation runing Sense 4.1, Android 4.0.1, overclocked to 1.83 Mhz, with all types of tweaks. The Note II blows it away in every way, stock.
I will not root it until there is something worth flashing.
The phone just came out a few months ago.
I am sure there is a nice ROM caming down the pipe.
I will be waiting.
I really hope I don't run into this issue with the freezing! I got the phone on release day in store and haven't had any issues thus far.
C.S.
maybe try rebooting every once in a while.... keeps things fresh... i reboot at least once a day.

[Q] Screen Sensitivity

Alright, I just had my Note 2 replaced under warranty due to overheating a shutting down (Best Buy refurb phone replaced it) and I'm running into more issues with the replacement phone than the original. For example, I use Swype to text/type, but when I try and type the word "down" for example, it will seemingly not follow my finger across the screen properly as it breaks it into two words "f2f upper" and the word "assignment" registers as "ahoy highly rent". Now, I have tried other swype-type programs, including the samsung keyboard (default) and it does the exact same things on there which leads me to believe it has to be a phone issue.
Anyone ever had a similar experience and if so how did you resolve the issue.
It happened once or twice to me so I just killed my ram to free up space. Then it started working right. Try doing that, sounds like your running low on ram so its getting glitchy.

Damn. Even with the ICS upgrade? This is crazy because I had an Atrix 2 for a while and with 1gb of ram you'd expect it to be okay. But this is that and 1.5ghz dual core.
But for $65 is it worth it? I mean in my city, there's lots of cheap and good phones. But this is the cheapest in its power range.

I think it depends phone to phone but on a super light usage day I might get 12-14 hrs. On my normal usage like 5-6hrs even with wind kernel and cm10.1. The major plus of the phone is that 2years later it still has one of the highest ppi's available.

To root v20c use this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
This works 100% as long as it is installed to c:/ and don't run as administrator.
However if you want to install cwm to install custom ROMs and tweaks (recommended) use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645
This will allow you to install a variety of ROMs that are based on stock that will offset better battery life including game playing. At the very least install wind kernel in addition to better battery life it removes security from the boot loader so you can uninstall bloatware without bricking ie. Google Play movies.
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda app-developers app
The battery drain is for me the biggest issue. But with wind kernel and other roms it is much better. It depends on what you want to do with the phone. When you play all the day, yeah then you will charge often. But other phones have same problem. I bought an extender battery. By the way the phone is better in my hands weight of course a little bit higher.

There are a few bad apples out in the wild. They are from the original batch that came out in 2011. But they are just fine in gingerbread. Sorry about your luck man.

Performance-wise, I went from a Galaxy S III to this phone, and the UI is decently smooth on the stock ROM. On CM it's pretty laggy unless you use Wind Kernel, which makes it a lot smoother. The screen is very sharp - I actually like its screen more than my S III.
However, I've had some bad issues with overheating on this phone. During normal use, it's not an issue, but I've had the phone shut off or reboot during GPS navigation, and when I felt the phone it was downright hot, especially on the back right where it says "8MP HD" below the camera. It got so hot that I couldn't touch it. Battery drain when under heavy load (games, GPS navigation, etc.) is also pretty bad. My 2 amp car USB charger can't keep up with it during GPS navigation, and the battery will still drain even though it's charging.
I've had the phone for a few months, and it is a decent phone overall, but I'd explore some alternatives.
I decided to go with an alternative. I got lucky and found a real good deal. I'm amazed myself. Thanks everyone for your input.
