PsXperia doesn't work now on 2.3.4 (Any way to fix this?) - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, so I upgraded from 2.3.3 and now my PsXperia using the Sony Playstation Engine doesn't work. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to simply reconvert all my games again using the PSXperia 2.0 converter?
The game goes to first loading screen then back to main screen

You will need to copy the new "Crash Bandicoot" apk and zpak from your 2.3.4.
After it, you can rebuild and re-install all PSX games again.

Ok thanks, seems like the emulator makes games look blurry than before or maybe because I've been playing on FPSE which is sharp without soft screen filtering.

The most recent consoles you'll be able to emulate are the PS1 and N64. Anything newer there is not an emulator for and I doubt there will be for a long time (and certainly not for the Epic.)

Ps1 ran FF7. That'd be fine. Nintendo & Super Nintendo would also be great.
I use FPse for PS1 roms, there's a program called ECM Tools that will help you convert certain game roms into the file type(s) you need to run the image on Android.
I've put SNESoid on my girlfriends phone, she has been playing Super Mario World, Super Mario RPG and A Link to the Past, all without problems.
Both emulators feature save states, you will need a BIOs file for FPse but all you have to do is google the BIOs file mentioned when first booting up the app.
There are emulators for every system you listed accept for ps2 (a tad bit over board for our hardware ) psx4droid ver 3.0.0.6 is the newest ps emulator and n64droid 1.0..4 is the newest for n64. However all of these were recently pulled from the android market. Their developer yongzh has been giving them away for free since just google for the apk. Make sure you have the latest!

And btw all the ps1 final fantasys run well on psx4droid 3. I prefer IX (on disc 3 now with only a few hiccups)

He uses another ps emulator fpse. Personally, final fantasy IX looked a whole lot nice for me on psx4droid with way less pixelation. The secnd part is about the saving system which is independent of the consoles emulated memory cards an takes a snapshot at any point you like which you can load later. Like an old school gameshark.

I use FPse for PS1 roms, there's a program called ECM Tools that will help you convert certain game roms into the file type(s) you need to run the image on Android. -- Google ECM Tools and there'll be a website called Emuparadise, one of the first results. Just check out that page, there's a download link and a brief explanation of what the program does and how to use it (it's as simple as drag-and-drop).
If you download a game image and the files include a .bin or .iso or .img file, those are all good to go without any preparation. (Also wanna mention that the SNES emulator doesn't require anything like this, it's just for PSX games.)
Both emulators feature save states, you will need a BIOs file for FPse but all you have to do is google the BIOs file mentioned when first booting up the app. -- Save states are used as an alternative to the games native save file system. You can save whenever you want and load from that point. The BIOs file for FPse is named SCPH1001.bin, just pop that into Google as well and you'll find it no problem.
Edit: As being mentioned above, psx4droid is an option as well. I had lag issues with a few games while running psx4droid (primarily with the games that came around later in the PSX lifespan) which I havn't had with FPse. There have been a few games where I've noticed graphical faults within FPse, Breath of Fire III had some transparency issues...can't really think of anything else worth mentioning. I had a few roms that didn't work but I've managed to find other versions to try out and have gotten everything to work so far that I've wanted to get working.
I'd try them both out and see which works best for you.

And just let me say that in no way was I dissing fpse. It is most definitely the "faster" of the two.. and has better compatibility overall. But you mentioned final fantasy and I have to mention that I tested ffix on both and px4droid (the newest one, I haven't had much success with anything older than 3.0) just was better for that game. Plus it supports antialiasing which I really notice on this small screen in comparison to a computer monitor. Anyway happy gaming, PM me if you have any emu questions.. btw food for thought- anybody think once we get some quad core action going on in android we might be able to get a pcsx2 port going? That would be sweet.

Emulators not working after update

After switching to the new nordic ROM, gameboid and n64oid won't play any games.
When I select a game to play, I just get a black screen and have to force close them. I used the exact same versions back on 2.3.3 UK, and everything had been running fine.
I read that psxperia doesn't work after the update as well.
Is it just me or is anyone else having this problem? I was thinking Sony Ericsson might be trying to block the emus.
Sent from the best phone ever
Yes, I have tried the 2.3.4 (Generic Nordic R800i 4.0.1.A.0.283 (1247-6212) and the PlayStation Pocket just can't play any games with the "psxperia-1.0" converted games, I have to go back to 2.3.3 and it just works all fine.
for me ,GBCoid and N64oid all work pefectly.FPSE runs very sluggish now thoughh
PSXperia doesnt work.
And it also could because you cant overcook your CPU with the STOCKERNEL ,hence the run sluggier

Refer to the psxperia compatibility list; it is a known problem.
It ALWAYS crashes when the replay is playing, you need to press X quickly after a fight to skip it, or use FPSE instead.

EDIT: I used screencast to make a video of Tekken 3 on my play. Nothing special just payed the first 2 rounds with a character.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-nE6kWTxhU&feature=youtu.be
Just noticed the video is sideways... sorry about that. Going to make another video right now and will post a link here.... hopefully I can get it to be in landscape instead of portait.
EDIT: again,
New video this time in landscape.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QRJP_8vwO4&feature=youtu.be
Also I dont know why my screencast videos always appear to lag, when while I am playing them they are buttery smooth.. is it something in the settings? I only changed the video from portrait to lanscape for this one....
Are you using software rendering? Just looked it up again:
Use software rendering. Minor graphic glitches in character selection screen. Press start to skip ending credits or else game will hang up. Use hardware rendering for hi-res models and graphics, with the problem that the game crashes at the end of each fight.

[Q] any type of way to get something like PSXPeria working on ics?

i really miss ps1 support on ics, and i hate sacrificing one thing for another just to get ps1 support. upgrading downgrading i want to be on ics with ps1 support and lets NOT discuss ps1 emulators like fpse or other because the xperia play Cant really handle that. The ps1 support is not gone from ICS, if you put the crash game on the gb ver it still works but our old PSXPeria method has been patched.
i have a bunch of my ps1 disks that i would love to put on my xperia NO EMULATORS. Any ideas?

Uh, have you ever even tried an emulator? epsxe works great on my Xperia play, and that was at 1ghz before I installed custom ROM. Hardly any slowdowns in any of the games with 0 frameskip. I'm sure with overclocking it would be perfect.
no matter how many time i rack my brains or loose sleep over trying to config those damn emulators i can NEVER get it to run in full speed. (Not yelling at you btw lol)
i only get about 20-30 fps maybe
but im currently trying fpse, if you have this can you please upload the config file (Backed up through menu)
or do you think or recommend epsxe more?
maybe also backup config files?
Sorry I don't have much experience with fpse. I definitely recommend epsxe. I can post my config file later on when I have some time.
You may also try Retroarch. I tried it because it sounds great in theory, especially because it is free, but I found the implementation to be very poor and a pain and the ass to configure and use at all.. So I broke down and went with epsxe
Flash gingerbread. There is no way to get it workin on ics. I tryed for a very long time tried to replicate what yifanlu did on gingerbread but its past my knowhow. Maybe you could try resigning it to ics but you will propably get parsing error
Sent from my LT28i using xda app-developers app
Yeah that's what I was gonna add is, why not dual boot to GB as well? But anyway, send me a PM if you still want the epsxe config file (I might not check this thread), but then I'll post it in the thread when you remind me.
yea i had no choice but to downgrade but my phone is breaking down with every flash and i just did it again:crying: im not supposed to flash back to GB on my phone because it dosent work correctly anymore.
Downgrading to GB gets me this,
auto rotation animation broken
720p recording broken
both unfix able errors no matter what kernel i use
theres no real explanation on why these happen but i believe that my xperia play is breaking down, and i still fave to flash back and forth form ics to use my camera!

Xperia Play touchpads not working

Hello, just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction.
I recently got an Xperia Play R800i and have used the PSXperia exploit to load the built in PSX emulator with some ISOs. However, the option on the phone under 'Controller Settings' for 'Analog Mode' is greyed out and I haven't been able to get them to work at all, so games like 'Ape Escape' are unplayable. I've looked on this site and elsewhere but haven't been able to find any way of testing if this is a hardware issue with the touchpad or something with the software. Have tried using another emulator ePSXe with support for the Xperia Play touchpads but nothing either. Phone is running stock SE firmware 2.3.4, build 4.0.2.A.0.62.
Any advice or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated

Well the only PsX emulator I have tried is FPse and I can confirm touchpads work flawlessly. You could try to use an app named “GameKeyboard” to test the touchpads. Also you could install any Xperia Play-optimized game to test touchpads, for example Dead Space.

So I downloaded GameKeyboard to test the touchpads - every other gamepad button works apart from the touchpads so it appears to be a hardware issue for sure

Hi, what options should I be using in this app to activate the touchpads? I'm using the stock SE 2.3.4 ROM so is this needed? Also, can this app potentially damage the phone in any way??

If you are gonna use psxperia when you build the apk you have to enable touchpads by ticking a box. Then you can go into the emulator and select the control scheme that utilizes them

I ticked the box to enable touchpads/analog when I was building the APKs with PSXperia. I've since tried testing the touchpads with another app I found on here + I tried using the touchpad test in the service menu of the phone but not working.
I'm going to try flash the stock ROM to 100% rule out that it is not a software issue - if the touchpads still don't work then I'm going to try replace the gamepad itself which will hopefully fix the issue!
Issue fixed
So I ended up ordering a replacement touchpad and housing as seemed to be a hardware issue - and sure enough when I took the phone apart, the flex connecting the touchpads to the motherboard was broken in half!!! now i have replaced the touchpads and reassembled the phone everything is working perfectly. Thanks everyone for your tips!
