[Q] Galaxy W internal and external sd card question

Hello,
I have a galaxy SL, and my brother is going to get a galaxy W.
In SL there is a non removable internal sd card(small), and I can add external sd card.
The main problem with this configuration is that with normal phone without rooting, I can only move the applications to internal sd card(small) using different apps or from settings screen, but I can not move the applications to the external sd card.
Does galaxy w has the same problematic configuration?

Hi there..
In my experience, the opposite is the case.
Apps can be moved, using Android native manual Apps2SD or the Auto GUI App2SD, free from Market.
Apps can only be moved to External SD card......Internal USB/Storage is for Data, Music, Pics, etc.
Phone Memory for Apps is quite big, 1G, so it will take a while to fill this with Apps.
However, some ROMs have utilized a memory mount point swap, which can be useful if you want to use Internal USB/SD for apps!!!

I use link2sd but first you have to make partition using minitool partition..

That's a good app OK....you can use FAT32 partition AFAIK
but I remember it was used before Froyo gave the ability to move Apps to SD....which is improved now with GB.....and when ICS comes there will be moving to any Storage..
It has the ability to force move Apps which are not designed to be moved....sometimes for good reasons!!
When I had a ZTE Blade I also used Dark Tremors A2SD.....which moved Apps and Dalvik, etc to sd-ext 1G. partition.....
but I don't think it works on this phone.

yepp..use fat32.
last time I use it, it works but everytime I restart my wonder some apps can't open(apps that.i link), but it will be opened only if you reboot from link2sd..
yes it will force move apps but we can uncheck the re-link or unlink so the apps still in the internal,..for me, I used to install apps that not designed to be move first, and then install link2sd..

From my understanding from irishpancake reply, there is no need of swapping storages or external apps to move the application (that support move2sd feature) to the external sd card, which is great.
I had to swap mount points for my galaxy SL to do the same thing, but my brother is not into rooting/hacking stuff.

Hey there "confused" nalee!!
First question: you wanna partition ur External SD for why??
Have you run out of space on phone Internal Memory for Apps??
Second question: Have you tried moving Apps to External SD using the native Apps2SD which we have??
It is easy peezy.....and you don't need to create partition on ur External SD. If you wanna make it easier again, why not try App2SD, free from Market, which will notify you when Apps can be moved.
Or Gemini App Manager, which has the same function, plus a whole lot more!!!!
But, if you just wanna try out partitioning your SD, take a look at Link2SD web page.....

You will need to D/L Minitool Partition Manager, if you got Windoze, or GParted tool for Linux.
You take responsibility for your own phone, so if you Brick or damage, no blame to me or Link2SD..

Well Irishpancake, that was helpful enough.. but does it mean that there's no way to link any file to apps which is save in External Sd..? You know how huge the games file are... It's Like every I wanna play the games, I have to move the file to Usb-Storage, then play the game.. Do I have to do this all the time...?

There is a manual way on rooted phone~
if you can run "Terminal Emulator" app on the phone and rooted:
1) su <-- run command as root
2) mount -o bind /sdcard/external_sd/<your directory with data files> /sdcard/<empty directory that will be used by your app>
or you can try this app "Directory Bind"

We have the phone now, but it is not like what I understood at all.
That is really a problem.
The app2sd has 3 tabs (on phone, on sd card, phone only)
The on sd card tab shows the small total 1.7 GB internal card, and there is no tab for the external 16 GB card.
Does it mean there is no easy way to move the applications to the big 16GB memory?

Abdalla friend......
The App2SD app is misreporting.....
It assumes /mnt/sdcard is the external SD.....
and reports what it finds!!!!
But, if you select any App shown in the "On Phone" tab.....
and then select "Move to SD card" Option......
Your App will go to External SD in the
/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/.android_secure folder!!!!
App2SD is simply executing the native Android GB Apps to SD.....
The only useful function this app has is to Notify when Downloaded App can be moved......ensure you enable this in settings.
The actual moving is done by the native system move Apps function!!!
So, I would advise if you are manually moving all Apps, there is a "Move All' function!!!!
Also, can I recommend Storage Analyzer app, free from Market....

It is the only app I know of which allows you to see what is on the .android_secure folder from your phone, without needing to mount on your PC or Laptop.

Apps2sd is just moving the apps on SD card, but this SD card is just the usb storage only not the external sd card

You have found a bug.....
It will FC after display of "What's new" page......V 0.9.1.
It does happen, but normal app usage is OK, it does what it says it does......
I would report that bug to the Dev!!
I'd say it is easily fixed.

You are incorrect if you are talking about app App2SD.....
or even if you are talking about Android native Apps2SD.......
and you have normal memory Mount Points.....
not modified "vold.fstab" as in some custom ROM's....
If you can show otherwise It would be helpful!!!
BTW.....you should not give out information unless you know it is correct.....

In free version only three folders to mount.. But in gl to sd unlimited folder mount..

Hi installed folder mount but i don't know how to add the games in this app. i m confused how to add the path in settings when it's just showing in source Path:/storage/emulated/0 ....it was showing same in path in gl to sd that's why thought to use this app. but here also same confusion. i saved my asphalt 8 on the external memory card i.e. on my memory card in storage/extSDcard/games folder & install asphalt 8.apk but i'm unable to mount the memory card path as it's not showing but just Path:/storage/emulated/0...kindly help

as i have used gl 2 sd recently and find it easiest to use..
just 1 thing..move data to phone memory first and install apk...after installation....... then u move data in ext sdcard ..from gl2sd app....not by urself...(for easiest way)..and then nount play!..

Needed?
The latest versions of 4.2.2 (on the 9082L) have native "Move to SD" and I have transfered my games, and they run fine.

I like foldermount.
Add luckypatcher and buy pro, then you have unlimited mounts available. And also this program is better cuz it is MUCH simpler to use.

i think it works with folder mount app ( its available on play store).. but i have not tried yet..

You could download 'External to Internal' it makes your external sd card to be replaced with internal sd. Helps to save internal memory.

Will not work on 4.2.2.. Only works on 4.1.2.. Go for gl to sd apps

Subway surfer doesn't have data or obb files... Its just an apk file.. So only need to move apk to sd card
From galaxy grand 4.2.2 firmware..

As per this video i done all thing but i cant run any game even virtual tennis shown in this video i am not abale to play game. After move data it sucessfully move to external card but when i open game icon from gl to sd by mount but it said to download data? Plz help me any one.....i am on 4.2.2 latest inu i9082xxumbi1 official with rooted plz help me some one i cant play asphalt 8 even any game by this app.....

Hey I used folder mount apps big games like asphalt 8 data moved but was saying download data in game then again I opened Folder mount app there is option of pairing moved files so I checked :thumbup: that now my game working perfectly u can try that app from play store

hey try GLtoSD it works fine to me. all u have to do is just click mount button before playing, and keep it mount always so u can play it by click icon from apps menu also.
note if u restart the device, copy of date files again comes to device memory as well as extstorage. at this time goto device memory and check the game data and delete it. (make sure same data file in external card)
each and every game works smooth with my sony class4 16gb external game with GL to SD

How to move game data to sd card

hi guys ..i m just sharing what i found on internet..
its very simple[NOTE : root is needed]
download gl to sd app from playstore ,,.link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slf.ListglApp
download any game u want
then open gl to sd app,,. in that open option and select move data...and move data of ur game in that list.....[NOTEnly game data ...not game app,u can see game data in down of list]
then wait for converstion..then on gl to sd app's main page click the chain icon and it is for mount ,..then u can play any game..\

yes i rooted with vroot and install root checker
in root checker says rooted but not fixed
i just install gta vice city then my internal storage is full

Yesterday there was a guide released that shows how to swap internal memory with SD. Try it. Works for me. It's in the XPERIA M forum.

Not full, i can link files but something to do with internal storage counting to be sdcard???

Link2SD works perfectly fine on my phone. Rooted with Super SU, Bootloader locked! However you should note that, since the Firmware we are using is stock firmware, it might not have support for EXT2, 3, 4 filesystems as the second parititon of the SD Card, I already tried, so you're going to have to format the second parititon of your SD card using FAT32,using minitool home parititon wizard, then use LINK2SD, it should work perfect. But even then, you can move the App, Dex files and Lib files, which work fine for apps, but the games have an additional SD data or OBB files, which cant be moved to SD card. Meaning to perfectly play games on our Xperia M, you need to have a combination of Link2SD and GL to SD apps, GL to SD helps link./ mount the games on SD card and bind them to the apps, and make them appear as if they were on the internal SD.

Download link2sd and install the app,
Then, connect your memory card via a card reader.
Download Mini Tool Home Partition Wizard(Google it)
open the Mini Tool and select your memory card,
Assuming you backed up the data on your memory card,
Format the drive for best results, and create a new parition, File type FAT32. Type: PRIMARY!! Set the file size...
Leave whatever amount of space you want for the Apps partition.
Then create another partition on the SD card.
It will say that the second partition will not be viewable on Windows, Click OK.
Then change partition type to FAT32... Size is your wish. And Type: Primary!!
Then save changes, Now you should have two partitions on your SD card,
Both are FAT32 and both are PRIMARY!!! -This is necessary.
Then put back the Mem card in the phone,
Open LINK2SD, select second partition as FAT32, reboot the phone, and
You should be able to now expand the memory of your phone... Transfer apps to Memory card!

Does anyone know how to move apps default location to Sd card or manually move apps to SD card ? Bcas since i rooted my Samsung Galaxy Grand i9082 to 4.4.2 Kitkat on CM11 it's not showing any option to move apps though i had this option when i had 4.2.2 jellybean on same phone.

use folder mount app to move apps to sd... its the best app as my suggestion ..

use install manager

Backup your sd card on PC and partition your sd card and then use links to sd to transfer apps to sd card
But, remember your sd card will get formatted if you partition your sd card

ill download and i even tried it but as i told u ... google play say insufficient storage available

Try clearing ur cache partition and dalvik cache via cwm... Also clear ur junk files using clean master

Manually download apk and install ... then try..
