[Q] stylus broken, again!

Ok, I'm totally "out-of-stylus". My second stylus just snapped. I'm getting a replacement soon, but I don't want any of this original crap (excuse my French). So here are some alternatives:
1. Metal, looks shiny, sturdy

Is there anyone using any of these? Could you provide some feedback?

I have the 3-in-1 and so far so good. Won't break like the original. I rarely use the pen though. Comes with black ink only at the time I bought mine.

did it snap because it fell? or does your LCD require you to tap hard on it? You might want to make a registry hack so that it will require less pressure to tap than usual.
i already have replaced 5 styli, i think this would be the solution to my problem.

got it from this site... but for my unit, i had to search for the word touch (to see pressure treshold) using tools/find in the registry editor, as it is located in another directory.

Minimize Pressure when Tapping the screen
Ever got used to tapping without screen protectors and suddenly you put some screen protector and have a pecuilar feeling (some-what like tapping harder than u normally do) due to the increase thickness of the protector?
Well i have gone to that and finally ive done some simple tweaks to my xda mini.
I also figure out this could lessen normal wear and tear(scratching of protectors/PDA screens) since lesser pressure is applied to Tap the screen
here's what i did..
thru the PHM registry editor(or any PPC registry editor)
go to..
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Drivers\Touch
or find 'Threshold'
Change the value of Pressure Threshold.(INCREASE value ONLY!!!)
what i did is set the value at 11880.
i tried doubling the default value. until i have reached my desired setting.
now,its like tapping soflty without having a feeling that i have screen protector. Also less stress on the stylus and screen and faster tapping.
WARNING: Only INCREASE THE VALUE BUT NEVER THE DECREASE THE DEFAULT VALUE.
Lowering the value of Pressure Threshold means you need to apply more pressure in tapping than you normally do.
ive tried this and when i soft reset, the screen won't react even if i apply deep pressure in tapping so i needed to do a HARD Reset!!!
So don't ever think of lowering the value, JUST INCREASE but NEVER LOWER!!

Mine snapped right out of the box! The tip just dropped off. It was a new Atom sent to me by O2 to replace another I killed

yikes! these things do seem to be too brittle for comfort. i've resorted to using another type of stylus... and it has proven to be much sturdier than the last 5.

spoke too soon. my latest stylus just fell and broke off its tip...

ive installed kilmist registry editor onto my o2 atom! and i cant seem to find much, ive found under hardware-screen some numbers but i dont know what i should change please help!

I had the same problem as you do but it started since I started using an XDA2(HIMA) 2 years ago. I have what people here term as a heavy hand. I broke my atom stylus a couple of months ago. Styli are very expensive here so I made one. I used bamboo and sand and whit it until I get the right diameter. I also applied some wax and burn it a little so that it will look a bit like I used hard wood. (I tried using hard wood before. It took me 2 days to make 1 stylus. It takes too much time and effort. Bamboo stylus takes only 2 hours to make.) It's a bit lighter though. At least it doesn't break. The wax prevents the tip from scratching the screen protector. If you guys like, I can make some for you.

[Q] Strange phone unlocking

Hi,
Please forgive my language mistakes.
I've got a strange issue. When I push my cell with my thumb in the 'red' area while holding blue one in place phone is unlocking automatically.
I've dissassembled and assembled my phone twice without any problems but it might be a consequence of that.
How can I disable:
1) automatically unlocking by removing stylus (maybe I'm pushing some sensor?)
2) automatically unlocking by sliding keyboard (maybe telephone thinks that keyboard is opening? - despite that that keyboard opens in opposite way....)

1&2 are effects of software. I think they can both be disabled, probably deep in WinMo's registry... I'm sorry, I don't know how to disable either of these off-hand - but I'm sure there's a way in WinMo.
As for your first description and picture, I have no clue what to make of it, sorry. It appears your phone is badly cracked, and the phone is thinking the keyboard is opening as a result of pressure on that cracked section.

Well I also believie that these options can be disabled by WinMo registry editting. The problem is I don't know where to modify.
Does someone else knows?
Well my phone is quite old but it costed me a lot of money so despite it's quite cracked I want to use it!

Maybe try using TouchLockPro to control these sensors:

Thanks. It only helped that right now i know that this is caused by keyboard sensor. In some strange way the phone (when i push as shown on picture) thinks that I'm opening the keyboard (must be really 'cracked' becuse the keyboards opens in opposite direction).
What's sad - the TouchLockPro is unable to control this behaviour. I don't know why - maybe because of Energy ROM which has CHT inside and this is overwritten.
Any ideas?

In the back of the Midframe (the metal back of the top half of the phone where the screen is at) there are two small metal sensors or whatever you want to call them. They are inside the track of the slider, try adjusting those a little and see if that makes any difference. I think that those could be the sensors that are messing up the keybaord detection on your phone. Maybe when you apply a little pressure on the phone the sliders inside the track are moving a little causing the phone to think that you have slid the keybaord open.

And if you're talking about these ... How do they work? Because if I will slide out the keyboard a liitle (the metal sensors are already untouched) the keyboard is still not lighted and a screen is in portrait mode....

I'm sorry, I missspoke. After further investigation it looks like the sensor is magnetic. While your keyboard is open try to place a magnet under the screen part of the phone and see if that would flip the phone back to portrait mode. Try to move it around a little to find teh most effective place for it. If it does we might be able to solve your problem with a little improvisation.

Thanks for your reply. This is magnetic indeed. When I will place a magnet under screen part (1/4 of screen part area under the buttons) it switches to portrait. But I can't a "pattern". I.e. if i will place it under right bottom (if you're looking at LCD) corner it switches to portrait but if I will put for a while magnet onto middle of 'screen-part' (ofcourse nothing happens) and then back again to 'right bottom corrner' also nothing happens. Unable to find some pattern/rule for that.

Good. So here is what I think is happening with your phone. When you press the part you were talking about in your first post, the magnetic field from the bottom of the phone is getting distorted for some reason making the upper part of your phone think that you have slid the phone open thus unlocking it and switching it to landscape mode. We do not want to buy anything costly to fix your problem, so here is what we can do. We can strengthen the magnetic field by placing a small 2mm magnet somewhre on the lower part of the phone preferably insulated and glued inside in an empty space. What will happen is when your keboard is not slid open the magnet will give teh signal to the upper part and it will be strong enough that even if you push it like you were doing it will not unlock. But when you slide the keyboard out the magnet will not be under the upper part anymore so the uper part of the phone will not be affected by it. Since you already opened your phone twice I don't think that it should be a problem for you. Just be carefull because we don't want the magnet to become loose and move around and short anything.

Thank you for your reply and appreciate your help! I've quoted the most interesting part. I had a scientific lessons on school and was moving my magnet around this 'magic corner'. I want to confirm that somehow i might have strenghed the magnet inside the device? Because right now it's a little bit better (at least better that I don't want to push with more power in case of destroying it).
Another question is about 2mm. You mean a cube 2x2x2mm or 2mmxYxZ (2mm thickness required.

That's interesting, maybe you realligned the magnetic field, that is not entirely impossible. I was talking about diameter, we want a very small magnet. It looks like the 2mm is more expensive than 3mm so maybe you can use a 3mm like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-Disc-Rar...598?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f0a038d56
But since it is better now, you might not need it.

[Q] S Pen - very pushy

Hey Guys,
I know that most of the questions I read were about the S Pen being too sensitive. But in my case, I feel the S Pen is not as sensitive as it should be!
When I put the pen in the slightest contact with the screen and try to scribble, nothing comes up. I feel I have to push the pen a bit more strongly to get some writing on the screen - and that takes away from the sensitivity of the S pen which Samsung brags about.
Is anybody else facing this problem, where you feel the S pen has to be pushed too hard for it to start writing on the screen? In my opinion, as soon as the pen comes in contact with the screen (even the slightest contact), it should start writing.

I am having this issue a little now. At first the s-pen was fine and performed as expected but now it seems like it needs more pressure to register scren taps etc although the pointer shows as normal whent he pen is close to the screen

This is normal in S note and some other apps where pressure sensitivity is needed. Samsung has designed it in that way.

Same here, first day the pressure needed was very low, now I need a lot of more and the traces of the pen have like 2 options, little press (more than before) and a lot of pressure for thick lines, nothing in the middle.
And I can corroborate this because with my other wacom pens of tablet pcs doesn't have the problem of the samsung now.

I adjusted the potentiometer to get rid of this problem.

The thing is that my pen can write with slight pressure but a little more than before, but the real problem seems that the middle one levels are lost and were working the first day.

S pen sensitivity...

Hey guys I just got my note 2 today and have been messing around with the S pen. Does anyone else notice that when pressing buttons on the screen to open apps or things in apps etc that it is not always responsive unless you hit it at the perfect angle? Also when I write normally i kind of write more at a sideways angle towards the screen but it seems to not register very well like this so I have to write more vertical towards the screen. Is there any way to fix these issues or is that just how it is at this time? Also i feel like if I write too lightly it doesn't register very well when writing. Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity or am I the only one who thinks this? Lastly, if i touch the screen with my palm it makes a mark in s note i thought it was not supposed to do this or let your finger write when the s pen is out. How do I set this?

I have a similar issue where i seem to have to press hard to get a reaction, especially the app drawer icon.

I notice you have to hit dead on which makes sense. This isn't a pencil or pen where you can write slanted and the ink still touch the paper or what not. But rather the "ball" of the s pen is where your main contact should be. Takes getting used to but what doesn't? Pen works great once you learn how it works

I had to exchange my S-pen 3 times due to sensitivity issue! One of them was way too sensitivity, I wasn't even touching the screen and I could write on S-note... Store manager thought that was part of the Note 2's new feature... lol
Even after the exchange of S-pen I was still having little issues with it, and I ran across a thread about slamming the S-pen on the ground. I know it sounds bizarre but it actually worked! I didn't believe it at first but now my s-pen works flawless... so weird. :silly:

lol like throwing it or just slamming it? and yeah i figured it would just take getting used to I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just my pen. So is there really no settings to change for it though??
Also funny question... does it matter which way it is held? Like when I was first holding it you would press the button with your thumb however you could also hold it so you would press it with your index finger. Does it matter? Is it made to work better one way?

Take a closer look at the tip of the S-pen. It's actually slightly spring loaded! I discovered this from an early review video I watched before I purchased mine. I believe that the tip has to be pressed hard enough to slightly retract in order to produce a mark. Writing with the pen at an angle may not be doing that.

Hey I have the same problem with you but I have solved it in a stupid but effective way. I open the back case and press it, that's it the pen sensitivity back to normal.... lol try it easy and effective....

The S pen can be too sensitive, so you have to adjust its potentiometer. Yes, you heard that right.Just pop the button cover off by simply using a razor blade or something really thin, the cover should pop immediately. Then, you have to use a small flat head screwdriver and turn the screw clockwise. This will adjust the S Pen sensitivity. If you want to make it more sensible, then you have to screw counterclockwise. You should adjust it until it no longer has a problem. This fix has worked for a lot of people, so it should work as a general fix. If you still have problems with the S pen, then you should get in touch with the dealer that gave the phone to you and get the S pen switched because it is faulty.

Wish I had known this a last week before I broke my last S Pen. lol Worked great and I even adjusted my full size S Pen as well! Kudos!

Is there any way to adjust the stylus pressure sensitive in stock rom? I mean I have to touch very very gently the screen for a light line but as soon I apply the most minimum pressure the line gets too dark, there's not a nice transition relative to the applied force. This occurs with all drawing apps.
Sorry if there is any spelling mistake. English is not my main language.
