Samsung launches its cheapest phone Galaxy Star at Rs 5,240
Intensifying the price war in the fast-growing smartphone category in India, South Korean mobile handset maker Samsung Electronics today launched its cheapest Galaxy series phone 'Star' priced at Rs 5,240.
'Star' is the cheapest device in Samsung's Galaxy range and competes with the likes of Nokia's Asha range of smartphones as well as similar offerings from domestic firms like Micromax and Karbonn.
"Galaxy Star is a device that provides superior value to consumers based on its features, intuitive performance and design features. We want more and more feature phone users to upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy Star," Samsung Mobile Country Head Vineet Taneja said in a statement here.
Previously, Galaxy Y was the cheapest device in Samsung's portfolio and it was available for Rs 5,890.
The entry-level smartphone is a dual-SIM device, powered by A5 1GHz processor and the latest Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system. It has a three-inch capacitive touch screen, 2MP camera and 512 MB RAM and 4GB internal memory (expandable up to 32GB).
With this device, Samsung now has a portfolio of 15 smartphones, priced between Rs 5,240 and Rs 41,500.
According to CyberMedia Research (CMR), more than 221 million handsets were shipped to India in 2012.
Though smartphones comprised a small chunk of the overall handset market at about seven per cent, the high-end category grew at a robust 35.7 per cent to 15.2 million devices in 2012 from 11.2 million units in 2011.
Given the strong growth in the category, handsets makers are introducing products that are affordable. This is also aimed at helping feature phone users upgrade to smartphones, it said.
Samsung was the category leader with 43 per cent market share followed by Nokia (13.3 per cent) and Sony (8.2 per cent), CMR said. PTI SR RSY MR 05241700.

I don't fancy that grill both in the front and in the back and i like the original one style better as it's simpler.
even if it was using the same chipset it's useless 'cause it's not using ics...
Motolux life proof would of been better.

Too bad, one of the greatest aspect of the 2 first defy is their ratio screen size / overall size...

Looks good IMO, although I wouldn't buy a new phone just because it has a front facing camera.
Looks dull to me, but has skype/videocall written all over it

:/ I don't really trust Moto anymore

In Romanian there's a saying that translated into English would be "same Mary with a different had" (aceeasi Marie cu alta palarie).
After another 3-4 reincarnations this phone will eventually end up being a low-end one. Why would they spend resources on "new" models instead of giving the Defy+ ICS?
Does anyone understand Motorola's strategy? I DON'T!

Now that's a tab I'd carry around. :good:
This is NOT a rumor (change the title), it is JUST a concept. People come up with imaginary concept designs and specs all the time. This is just one of them. Go to their Facebook page and you’ll see plenty of such designs for phones and tablets.
It's a concept and not some leaked rumour. Apart from that, this is the HOX section so please use the proper forum next time.

Elephone Q is one of those unique devices that target the lower-entry level smartphones, it will be really interesting to see what type of market Elephone is trying to target and see if we can see this trend being continued in the future. The pricing of the device is yet to be disclosed. We feel it will be priced around $40.

I ordered one. it does have GPS but no compass.
550mAh
lol.
I wud like 2 play gta san andreas in it
someone has played San Andreas on it, well a version of it, the Posh Mobile Micro x S240. (both based off the Alps S240B I believe)
I just got one of these (The Posh Mobile one) today. so far its interesting, paid 50 dollars US for it, wanted to see what it was all about. yes its small REALL SMALL lol, only dual core 1 ghz, 4gb storage, 512 mb ram, 2.45 inch screen. but funny thing, at least in benchmarks, its not as bad as I expected lol. I read about the screen size and was still surprised when I opened the package today. it reminds me of a old Samsung MP3 player from like 12 years ago. a very slim one (YP-T9, but without the dpad). Been loading various tools and such on it to see how it does. the Camera is nothing special lol. but I can deal with that
Does somebody have it? If so, can you please confirm if Pokemon Go runs on it both through 3G connection and hotspot from other device? It is for a project I've got in mind. Thx in advance!!

Before the official release, some netizens exposed some info about iFive Pro 2. In terms of the leaked photos, its design use liquid metal frame and fashion leather shell and there is fingerprint at the bottom of the front design with double speakers, USB Type C port, volume button on the top right.
As for configuration, it reveals that it is possibly powered by RK3288 processor Cortex A17 Quad core processor, considering iFive always uses Rockchip chipset. Besides, iFive Pro 2 will use 9.7inch 2K screen with RAM 4GB ROM 32GB, And we have no idea about its dual camera until now.
We also care about the price, some websites said the selling price of iFive Pro 2 will be a little higher. We can guess it will sell at 200usd to 300usd. After all iFive brand has been known for its excellent design and quality and it has good reputation among consumers. Under the condition of the fierce competition in electronics, tablet pc has become the one that many manufacturers attach importance to and compete, too. This time, Ifive has come back, we must be very looking forward to it. Let’s see on May 15. We will report more tomorrow.

Right now i don't know about battery, i guess tomorrow i will share with you about it.
RK3288 at this point? Wouldn't they use RK3368 or, possibly, 3399?
Looking forward to hearing from this tablet, I have an iFive X2 and I love it after all this time!

It's the RK3288 indeed.
Here's the product site: http://www.ifive.com.cn/product/pc/3-1-25.html
Not sure if the keyboard comes with the tab or it's a separate purchase. The battery is a respectable 7.800 mAh.
seems not cheap. I can buy other tablets with much more cheaper price and with same specifications. Such as 'dragon touch'.

I'm not sure you're getting fingerprint sensors or long battery backups with those. FNF tends to have very good designs with attention to detail unmatched by the rest of Chinese contenders (I've gone through many Teclasts, Cubes and Ondas and the one I keep is my iFive X2, close to three years old but rocking hard still). Their main issue is the crappy EMMC storage they are keen to use, which may not be a problem anymore.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it isn't of much use, since as it comes it's a really great phone for the money. However, I will agree this thing needs rooting and custom ROMs. While they have done some neat things in the stock ROM, I'd prefer speed and battery life (although neither are bad as-is) increases by doing something like porting the OnePlus 5T's Oxygen OS. The option of "stock Android" doesn't really get there - but a great idea.
I agree with you that this smartphone is elegant. Its screen looks great, the speakers very correct and ROM so well optimized. The camera looks more than adequate especially for the price of the phone, the only brake I can have is on the storage space of 32GB which may be sufficient for some but that may prevent me to fully use full HD and 4K videos. I will finally congratulate smartisan for this design worked and for the difference of others, its design and its rich features really caught my eye.
