Attempting to unlock the bootloader of my brand spankin new LTE G.Nexus. I installed the samsung USB drivers, am running Windows 7 64bit. Made sure USB Debugging was on. When running ICS issuing an 'adb devices' on my windows machine shows the device there, and I can remotely reboot it into the bootloader, however as soon as it goes into the bootloader (via manual reboot or remote) I loose USB connectivity, it shows up as an unknown device in my device mangler and ADB no longer see's it.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the driver, reboots, etc. Can't figure it out. Anyone else having the same issue or have any ideas?

im having similar issues...im stuck in "waiting for device" in the bootloader.
I'm having the same problem and nothing I've found helps. Since I really want to unlock the bootloader, and doing so wipes the device, I'm stuck not being able to do anything with the phone until I get this worked out
I had this problem when I was unlocking the bootloader. I kept playing around with it and reinstalled the drivers multiple time. I would uninstall the driver and install the driver when the phone was in bootloader mode (I believe).
Make sure the drivers you're setting it to are new.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4174784/usb_driver.zip were the drivers I used. These are for GSM model, not sure if they work for the CDMA/LTE version!
Alternatively, you can install PdaNet for drivers.
I finally got it to work. My problem was that I didn't have an updated driver for the device in bootloader mode. This is how I fixed it:
1. With your phone connected and in bootloader mode, go to your computers Device Manager (Control Panel -> Device Manager)
2. You should see an Android 1.0 device. Right click and choose Update Driver.
3. Choose Let Me Choose From This PC (or whatever it's called)
4. Click on Let Me Pick From List.
5. Choose Android Device
6. Choose Android Bootloader Interface
That's what worked for me.
Some people also had luck by installing the windows pdanet which installs drivers that should work too.

Worked for me, I thought it was due to my HTC/Motorola device drivers, so uninstalled all of those and re-installed the Samsung...but these steps worked. Thank you again (I did also hit the thanks button too FYI!)!

i have no idea why but it is just not working :/ in that last set of instuctions above...i dont even have android bootloader interface lol which is weird cause ADB is reading my phone just fine...but when in bootloader mode it just says waiting for device. Does anyone have the fastboot drivers?

That method didn't work for me either. I'm running windows XP professional and do not see 'Android Device' in the list of devices... any other ideas anyone?
Did you download the Google USB drivers as part of the Android SDK? They're at the bottom of the list of things to download when you open SDK, that's what I did.

I did,
Tried the PDAnet method as well. Adb works fine. Once I get into the boot loader the device isn't recognized. I get the Android 1.0 install prompt and cant install it.

Thanks! FWIW, I had to uninstall the Samsung driver and use the Google USB driver to find the Android Bootloader Interface one... if others are having trouble, try that.

i followed the guide for rooting my galaxy nexus.
driver installation was alright, and then i switched to fastboot mode (green android) and then the device manager didn't recognize my gn (unknown device).
tried uninstalling and then reinstalling, tried "updating" it with various rar files i found on this forum and ofcourse i tries pdanet.
none of them worked. it was always unknown device.
then i had no choice and i removed the battery to boot it normal.
suggestions? thnaks
After installation, plug in your phone, look at your system tray for the USB icon, click it. It should show a status of installing more drivers. This can take awhile, and for a lot of people it seems to fail the last step, Android 1.0 drivers. Open control panel, system, device manager. Look for a yellow error icon. Click that, choose to install drivers manually and locally. Then select 'choose from list', find Samsung.
That should get you back on track

Were you able to unlock the bootloader? If you didn't do this, don't go installing any driver... be very careful. If you install the wrong driver in device manager, you'll screw it up. I installed the wrong driver on my main computer and I couldn't get the device manager to even recognize the phone :| I couldn't locate the right driver either because once I installed the driver, it renamed it. It was a huge pain and the only way I got this to work was by using a different PC with the correct drivers.
I have found this to be the best instructions for unlocking the bootloader. Most importantly, it includes directions on how to gain access to adb on your phone properly. Take your time and follow the instructions exactly...

I had the same issue, install pdanet and your phone will be recognized when in fastboot

silly question, but after booting to fastboot, you are using the fastboot.exe, and not adb? if you type "fastboot devices" does anything show up?
no, nothing shows up.
and thats clearly because the driver is not installed correctly.. i see a yellow sign in device manager.
what am i doing wrong? only thing i was different from the guide is that instead of typing adb reboot bootloader, i got into fastboot by pressing the volume buttons.

click open that yellow unrecognized device...manually choose drivers (don't do auto), and select from the list, you'll see samsung, choose the driver
that should install android 1.0...alot of people have gotten this error.
edit: another thing to keep in mind is, after installing the drivers, and fixing the device in device manager, it can still take a little bit to initialize. in your system tray there should be a usb icon, open that to see when the drivers are done
I am in the same boat. I tried for hours on 2 different Windows 7 laptops (both 64bit). I am trying to get Yakju from one of the derivitives (without unlocking the device).
Steps taken:
- Dloaded Samsung USB driver 1.4.6 & Installed: Did not recongnize in explorer or Odin (even Odin did not show a thing)
- Dladed PDA Net A302x64: Did not recognize in explorer or Odin.
Both times the GN is in Device/Printers and listed as having Android 1.0 driver. I try to manually update, but cannot seem to find driver in list (as it just has Android 1.0 driver listed). Any suggestions?

about manually installing the driver.. i tried pointing him to a manual driver package i got from this forum.. it said its the same driver..

Well, i've saw someone else on here who was having driver issues, who also had installed both samsung & pda drivers...
uninstall both.
fresh install ONLY the naked drivers directly off samsungs website (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/verizon-wireless/SCH-I515MSAVZW -- if you're verizon, if not, you can search there). Do the install. Plug the phone in, it will start to install its usual crap. this is the long part. then, it will fail like you saw before. in device manager, you'll see the unrecognized device. Open, it will ask you to find drivers, choose "Browse", "Let Me Pick From a List", "Samsung", and then pick the driver with the date 11/25/2011
check to see if there are any other unrecognized devices in device manager, just to be sure you got em all. at this point, plugging in your phone should show the USB connected icon in the system tray. do you see this? If you click it does it say "Eject MTP"?
Just got my galaxy nexus (coming from evo lte). I'm trying to do all the fun stuff, but am kinda stuck. Any time I try to install the drivers I get "drivers not installed" with the error in device manager "SM Bus Controller no driver found" and "PCI Device no driver found". However, when I plug my Galaxy Nexus in, it says "ready to use" for the following: SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device, Galaxy Nexus, SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface. The main thing I am getting is "waiting for device" to unlock bootloader. Any ideas?
Sounds like you're missing motherboard drivers.
Man I'm having the same problems with the drivers/connecting myself. Was trying to root and was able to recognize with PdaNet then once I unlocked the bootloader I was unable to flash a recovery. Now still can't get my GNex connected so hopefully our problem is solved soon.

I fixed the mobo drivers. Reinstalled the USB drivers. However, it still hangs on the fastboot screen and adb is still waiting for device. Any clue?

If your Command Prompt displays the message "waiting for device" your driver wasn't successfully installed.
Close the Command Prompt window and open Device manager while your phone is still plugged in. (Search for it using the search option).
Right Click the "Android" option and select Update Driver. Choose to "Browse My Computer" and "Let Me Pick From A List." Pick the Samsung driver with the newest date and install it. Now retry the code above.
Your phone will ask if you want to unlock it. Select "Yes" by using the volume keys and use power to select it.
Now, navigate to "Recovery Mode" with the volume keys. Use power to select.
A screen with another Android will pop up. Press Volume Up and Power at the same time.
Select Factory Reset. This process may take a few minutes. Be patient and let it work.
Once finished, select "Reboot."
Your phone is now unlocked!
For the past few days I've been trying to pass SafetyNet with root and after I failed, I tried to unroot my phone as passing SafetyNet is more important to me than having root. In the processing of doing so, I messed up some things on my device. I flashed all uninstalllers of SuperSU, Xposed, Magisk and other stuff I flashed through TWRP and deleted all SU files in bin and xbin. It removed root but I still wasn't able to pass safety net. I then messed up somehow and removed my TWRP and now when I try to access recovery it simply boots up my phone. I decided it would be the best to simply reset my phone using fastboot and adb (maybe even lock the bootloader again?). Fastboot however, cannot detect my device while abd can (not in the bootloader menu though). I have searched arround on the internet, have installed tons of drivers, reinstalled the SDK + Android Studio,... but I can't seem to get it work. When my device is booted up, it shows in Device Manager as "ONEPLUS A3003" and when in fastboot mode, it shows as "Android Bootloader Interface". Updating the drivers doesn't help. Would love if someone was able to help me out here!
The problem is the last update windows 10. You need to connect your phone in fastboot mode to your PC. Then go to the Device Manager, find there KEDACOM USB Device, clicked and appears in the ANDROID BOOTLOADER INTERFACE. Click on it right mouse button, put the Update Driver Software, then search for drivers on the computer, then select DRIVERS FROM THE LIST and select FASTBOOT INTERFACE (USB GOOGLE ID).

Got it working with your help! Had to completely remove the drivers first and than put my PC into flight mode though, because Windows 10 would keep reinstalling the drivers. Thanks for your help!

First, try updating your drivers through windows update automatically. If the drivers are installed and still fastboot commands are not working, then follow these steps:
Pre-requisites:
* PC running windows 7/8/10
* Internet connection (just 20MB)
* Working USB cable
Steps:
(1) Download the [OFFICIAL][TOOL][WINDOWS] ADB, Fastboot and Drivers - 15 seconds ADB Installer v1.4.3 from XDA

(3) Disable the internet connection of your pc

bro i have done everything you said, also i followed some youtube videos for help, also when i type "fastboot devices" it shows my device attached but when i try to execute something, my phone says "press any button to shutdown".....i want to flash my phone please help me........because somehow my phone got bricked after flashing latest havoc os 3.0 through twrp .

Hello, I followed your mentioned steps but in my drivers its showing "Samsung Android Device" is that okay for my asus zenfone max pro m1 device? Or there is one portable device option, is that it?
Hi guys, specially opened an account because of this issue. I am unable to run the fastboot devices command even after following all the aforementioned steps. Phone screen turns black and a message appears on the top left stating "press any key to shutdown", while the fastboot devices command gives a "??????? fastboot" response on my PC. PLEASE HELP!

After I completed all the steps, my phone showed on screen "press any key to shutdown" and even in device manager it shows android ADB interface as hidden. Help please. Rebooting again to fastboot mode doesn't help because it shows the same screen "press any key to shutdown" on reconnecting with PC.

Well i learned this from somewhere but actually you need to turn off the secure boot in your PC from the BIOS. That's what helped me do it

Well you know how there's a BIOS in your PC which contains the basic commands required to run a computer. There is a setting called secure boot inside your BIOS. You need to turn it off and then install fastboot tools. To open the BIOS, repeatedly press F10 or F8 on your computer while it is opening. This is how it worked for me atleast

this happen to me,, and i have solved this,,
step:
1. U must flash ur Phone via qfil,(*)
,than u will lost ur IMEI and SN will Change to 111111,, but dont worry thats can be back again
2. next step is u must recover ur IMEI and SN back (in tele group u wil found the step) after that U just flash stock firmware modified (via TWRP/ORFOX)n then ur phne willl back normally
Note : (*) in firmware for flash via qfil replace the recovery.img with twrp/orfox (rename To "recovery.img") this will bring u a twrp/orfox recovery after flash via qvil
i hope this can help..
