Screen randomly activates like I have the S View Cover...but I don't. Anyone else? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Like the title states...
My S4 will randomly activate the preview screen of time/date/etc as if I had the S View Cover, but I don't. I've never even tested one on my phone.
It happens literally when I'm in Portrait (doesn't matter if I'm lock screen or not), I turn it 180 degrees and put it down. The preview screen then activates.
Does anyone know if there's any way to turn this off?

Are you using that gesture? Go to air gestures and uncheck quick glance. Might not be your issue just a guess....

Thanks for the suggestion. What stinks is that I actually like the quick glance feature when I put my palm up to the dark screen and I get a quick preview. I also like the hover to preview my emails....
If that's the only way, then I guess I'll have to live with it.
Forgot to add...if it's in that S View Cover screen and I turn the phone upright, the phone will automatically get out of that screen. I can also then put it back horizontal and it'll reactivate...

Screenshot for proof.
Sorry it's out of focus...I had to snap it quick and the phone didn't focus in time with the low light...
Also, this picture is with Quick Glance turned off.

The MIUI answer screen

Is there a way to change this default answer screen? I cannot stand that big slide-down bar, and it's sensitivity sucks. Sometimes I have to lick my finger and then swipe it just for the blasted call to be answered. Any ideas?
Maybe try a different dialer replacement. There are several in the market.
I wonder that looks like a public. Is it cold there?

Wha? lol.................
You having to lick your finger in public to touch the screen. Kinda awkward. And I don't know but perhaps the cold can play tricks with a touchscreen when your finger is cold.

Ahh gotcha, yeah it's weird lol. I haven't found a way to change the answer screen. It seems to be the same regardless of the dialer I use.

If you get the right theme going it doesn't look so bad. Lol I'm running the black android theme, and its flat black so its not like you really see the slide bar.

With MIUI, even an aftermarket dialer will not change the incoming call screen. It will be the slider. As to the sensitivity, I have never had an issue. Do you have a screen protector? If so, it could be causing issues. They all reduce the sensitivity some, but I found SGP from sgpstore.com has the ones that have the least resistance and also have the best sensitivity.
Also MIUI has a nice setting in the phone options that allows you to enforce proximity sensor. This causes the proximity sensor to be on any time the phone is ringing or on a call. It helps prevent accidental answers by sliding it out of your pocket, but it can also cause touch inputs to not be recognized while the screen is off, and sometimes it would take a second after the screen popped back on before the slider will function.
Just some options until MIUI provides a way to theme the incoming call screen like the lockscreen.

Removing the blue lip that appears for quickly selecting apps?

Hi
I have a weird "lip" that appears on my Note 2's screen sometimes that slides out and shows you more apps you can open.
I'm not sure how this appears - it appears to happen at random. And I have absolutely no idea how to get rid of it unless I restart the phone.
I'm not sure if it is an app that I installed on the phone or it's something that Samsung preloaded on it.
I have attached a screenshot where this "lip" is appearing over the keyboard. It's very irritating as it protrudes over everything you are doing, as shown!
Any help on how to permanently disable this?
Thanks!
That's the multitasking bar and you don't want to permanently disable it in my opinion because it is so damn useful.
You invoke it and dispel it in the same way - long press the back button.

Dave

I know the question has been answered but you may not know that if you bring that "lip" up and you hold a app icon you can drag it out and multitask by running two windows. Just a quick fyi.

Ah, I see! Only seems to work with certain apps at the moment though. I can see its usefulness a little now.
What is the point of clicking Edit on the multitasking list and sticking icons inside the "Drag and drop here" section?

that's the multi Window feature of this beast. Hold the back touch button for a second, the tab will disappear. If it's there, you can open 2 apps at the same time in a split screen fashion. Try it out. Works like a charm.

If you are having troubles disabling the multi-window feature open Settings> Display> take the check out of Multi-window.

Fallenkirmit, well even though the post might be a bit old it get's veiwed by many who Google their issues. My 6yr. old boy was telling me how rude it was for him to act that way towards the OP, so I thought about the time frame and yet thought of all those other people that may not ask a question because of reading his responce or those that might or do respond now on Forum's. Thank
you for your kind responce. Just looked and I don't have Multi-Window listed under Device catagory then selecting Display.
If you want to completely disable it, it should be in system settings / display / multi-window feature, uncheck. If its not there then perhaps its not Multi-Window your having issues with. Are you on a TouchWhiz based ROM?

Eye in the status bar

Has anyone else noticed the weird eye in the status bar it pops up randomly and is gone very quick. What is it?
Edit: it does this when the screen rotates. Is an icon for that really necessary

Its watching you. Its probably the feature that detects if you're reading and keeps the screen awake or the feature that detects if it should rotate depending on your head position.

Under display or motion settings there is a option called smart stay and smart rotation. Read what they do in the settings and you can turn them off or on.

The smart rotation IS watching you. If your face maintains it's position, the screen rotation will not change... Weakness is in low light conditions. The eye indicator I think shows when face match keeps it from rotating.
Thank you for this thread. I thought I was loosing my mind.
That thing is CREEPY!
I love this place. All the answers. Sweet!
Edit: The eye indicator is also for Smart Stay, apparently, keeps the screen from going to sleep as long as your looking at it. I saw my screen dim out of the corner of my eye and turned to look at it when the "eye" popped up. Then the screen brightened. Came here to find out what was going on. I'm on Verizon by the way.
Confirmed

I can confirm the eye appears for Smart Stay, as I have it enabled and Smart Rotate disabled and still see the eye. I think it may appear every time it's checking, because occasionally I'll see it, but then see the screen immediately turn off.

A bunch of questions?

Howdy, gentlemen (and gentleladies) I have quite a few questions regarding the note 2. I know my way around android, these are about the device itself. As questions are answered, I will update the OP with the solutions / answers for reference, so others might learn from my ignorance
I bought a flip cover case, not the genuine samsung case, but one off ebay. It doesnt have an indentation for the home button so it is constantly being turned on. Is there a fix, preferably without rooting, for this? Maybe using the proximity sensor?
With the same flip case, I would like to know if it is at all possible to have the devices screen automatically turn on when it is opened, and turn off when it is shut? (Think "iPad with its magnetic cover") Possibly through the use of NFC tags or proximity sensor? The proximity sensor would have obvious issues with other things interfering. SOLUTION FOUND: DOWNLOAD "SIMPLE COVER LOCK" FROM PLAY STORE.
Are there mods that allow selecting something using the S-Pen's button, while it is in the air? Maybe using it to highlight text while in the air or click the button to register an input? I do a lot of copy and pasting and a feature like this can greatly improve productivity.
Is it possible to get the S-Pen to be able to push the soft keys? I absolutely hate having to continually change my hand posture whenever I need to access the back key or open a menu. Maybe, building on my previous question, have some sort of air gesture with the S-Pen button depressed that performs the actions of the soft buttons? WORK-AROUND, NO TRUE SOLUTION YET: GESTURE < AND ^ WITH S-PEN BUTTON DEPRESSED FOR BACK AND MENU ACTIONS, RESPECTIVELY
My last question is simple. Is the LED indicator an RGB LED? Like the one on the galaxy nexus that can be changed to any color? It would be cool to have different notification colors per app, blue for facebook, green for messaging and so on. ANSWER: YES
I appreciate the help, normally I would use my Google-fu but I much prefer answers from other users.

I can somewhat answer the first question. There are apps that allow you to use the proximity sensor to turn off and on the screen. A couple that I've personally tried are Intellicover and Auto Screen on. There's also Screen Lock and Off that allows you to turn off your screen by tapping a button. These work well, but if your flip cover is constantly bumping the home button, using these apps won't do anything different as your home button will still get bumped and then the screen will constantly turn on.
the best app to use for turning on the screen automatically is "simple cover lock" its a small free app that does just what it says it was created for the note 2 and does what it needs to really good
For the menu & back button question, hold the button on your s pen & draw a < on the screen to go back & a ^ for the menu
Edit: Also, Light Flow from the play store let's you control the LED lights

Thanks, seems to work fine for a beta, although it does show my homescreen for a second after the flip cover opens before going to the lock screen, even if it was already on the lockscreen when I shut it. I've never seen that happen with any lockscreen alternative, must be a bug. also, it gets kind of annoying if I accidentally move my hand over the proximity sensor and it shuts the display off, but the note is so big that this occurs rarely. Nonetheless, thanks

to fix the screen turning off when you move your hand over you would need to change the "turn off screen after" time to 5 so it would take longer to turn off when you closed the cover, i dont have the lockscreen bug on my rooted note 2 running a 4.1.2 samsung rom
I see, ill do that! I dont plan on rooting anytime soon, so I guess I have to live with it.
