S4 most tricked out phone todate? Poll and opinions - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I Wanted to see what many people think of of how galaxy's have developed since the vibrant.
Its funny to compare model devices to the galaxy's where as many of the other models ..htc moto, lg never really incorporated the cool tricked out Ui features the galaxy's have and the s4 mainly in general.
If you ever owned a jb iPhone and had to put the s4 rooted vs i5 jbroke which would u say has the most UNIQUE tweaks as far as ui tweaks go...Consider cydia when judging , not talking about the obvious two diff o.s systems ..just available mods and ui tweaks that compare between the two .Of course Samsungs are all stock features, as where iPhone doesn't allow unless jb.
Wether u have had owned a iPhone jb or own a ipod jb who thinks apple cydia tweaks are more unique or vise versa

My first Samsung phone was the Indulge on MetroPCS. It was my first smartphone and I hated it. Mostly because of the battery life. I would go to bed with a fully charged unit and when I woke up it would be nearly dead. I had fits harrassing Samsung about the fact that they would not give me a straight answer about IF never mind when they would realease an extended battery and expanded door. So much grief in fact that Samsung gave me two brand new Epics....but that is a different story.
I sure hated that Indulge.

Besides the galaxy note and S4 the only other samsung device I had was the double flip phone that I adored because it was way cooler then other phones on market.
Samsung knows what it wants todo to innovate and prove to people its not all looks like apple....but they need to work on Implementation

I still have a Hercules and 2 s3s.
I've been flashing the latest cyanogen nightlies for my mom who is using my main s3. The Hercules is running a dark side Rom (Tdj's). It's user has no complaints.
The s4 is by far the best phone on the market, and T-Mobile is by far the best provider.
I work on iPhones a lot and jailbreak them for money, but the closest I had was a touch iPod I miked and used for Skype type calls.

Wouldn't it be nice if tdj somehow started deving for the s4? That would be extremely nice.

Any fears over future development with the Note II?

I am using a HTC One X I received for free but have an upgrade burning in my pocket. I am weighing my options right now between a Nexus 4, LG Optimus G, and a Samsung Note II for AT&T. I never considered the Note II until recently when a co-worker got his. I read reviews and watched vids on various phones and everyone makes the phone out to be like its the size of Texas. After using it for a bit, pocketing it, playing with it, etc the size is not an issue unless you have some seriously dainty hands. While the screen quality is amazing on my HOX that massive screen on the Note is calling me like a Siren. If I get one I don't think I will be able to go down to a smaller screen once I am used to it
Anyways, my question is regarding future development as I am always flashing ROMs. I read last month that the Cyanogen team will no longer support Samsung devices based on the Exynos chipset. Has this changed or what is the future outlook for ROM development on this phone? Is Samsung being more proactive about releasing documentation, code, drivers, etc to help the dev community? Will CM still come to the Note II just not officially from the CM team? Any thoughts?
I need me some AOSP on my phones so if development is in question I might pass.

Glad to see this! Thanks for posting the link.
High fives all around with this news. I'd say go for it. This is the first device I've used my upgrade for in a long time and not regretting it one bit. But in the future I probably won't be able to get another device with at least 5 inches of screen.
Awesome! Before I came back to this thread, I was browsing the international Note forums and saw that a nightly of CM 10 was released.
I am such a needy person as I want the cool features Samsung brings with the S Pen, pop out video, multitasking with multi-view, etc but with speedy updates and without Touchwiz, carrier bloat, etc.
:Sigh
This would be amazing if it happens:

Agreed. I hadn't upgraded myself in forever. The S2 was on another line.
Also great news to know its CM supported. Means AOKP may make an appearance... loved that ROM on my S2.
I wouldn't want cyanogenmod or aokp or any aosp based rom's on the note ii. Its heavily customized around the s-spen and you'd lose support for that if going with an aosp rom. The note ii is about being different, trying something different. The s-pen stylus for sure and all that goes with it, but also multi view to make use if that big beautiful display. Samsung lately has been good about toning down and streamlining touchwiz, its not nearly as visually intrusive or resource hogging as senseui. Its done tastefully. They do have some nice semi proprietary features like s beam. As long as they release updatea for the note ii now and then i am happy to stick with custom rom's based on the official rom. Just debloated, tweaked, streamlined, enhanced but at its core android with touchwiz and full hardware support, no strange little quirks or hacked drivers or something not quite working right, etc. The fun that comes with running an aosp based rom. The note 2 is top notch in performance and features and will have lots of community support for some time imho. I know several Android enthusiasts who have chosen the note 2 over other high end models. Itvsays something about the phone.

+1 AOKP was fun on the GS II, didn't like it on my One X. But for the Note, a major reason I bought it was all the S-Pen and TouchWiz stuff. I'll be sticking to stock based unless some of the pop up and side by side stuff makes its way to AOSP ROMs.

Agree with the both of you. I just switched from a One X with CM10 to the Note II and both sentiments ring true. I miss some things from AOSP (mainly the lock screen) but Touch Wiz on this does the job perfectly, and it's needed for the S-Pen features which I am using more and more as I get comfortable with it. I've rooted to remove bloat and flashed the custom kernel available to mildly OC and UV it and that's about all I think I'll do. I'll probably try out Scrosler's ROM as I had it on my HOX a few times and was always happy with his work. And I definitely don't think I can go to anything smaller than 5'' after this, two months ago I would of thought I was crazy for thinking that. However this phone is so much more comfortable to wield for me than the original Note was and I love this thing.

I honestly don't see any problems like your wondering about.
There is already developer interest..and I don't see interest stopping...
Now...if your just wanting a Nexus for the pushed upgrades that's one thing...but I for one would take a wait & see attitude about the LG...They have a very lack luster approach to updating anything on their lines.
As to the screen size...your quite right...going back to anything smaller would be a hindrance once you get used to the bigger screen...( for me at least it is )and when you do a side by side comparison...it clearly shows there is no comparison to it...You may find a little more detail with the smaller screens...but...a 1080P movie still looks exceptional on it. I love the looks given by guys with smaller sized phones take a look at mine then back to theirs...They usually make some dumb statement about needing a back pack to carry it around...lol...lol...lol..
I really like my Note...it is special...and when folks see you using it...they always ask to see it..and I have never seen any other phone that will cause this reaction from folks...

Totally agree.
"Touchwiz" is no longer bad on the Note 2. I WILL NOT be ROMing my Note 2. Ever. Things simply can't get faster and for the first time AOSP wouldn't add as many features as it would cause you to lose. The spen is bloody brilliant and the overall touchwiz experience on the note 2 is stellar. I'm on XDA with this device to hear about accessories and to help those that need Note 2 help.
My ROMing days are over as long as I have the Note 2 (probably Note 3,4,etc) as it's simply not needed anymore. Touchwiz brings too much to the table and is too feature rich/smooth to lose. 6h 45m battery life with 24h unplugged on LTE and 20% remaining? Man roms can't improve that and if they did, I wouldn't use or need it. Don't like ATT bloat? Go into the built in application manager un settings and disable anything you don't like or want. It's like it's not even there.
Dang I love this phone.

hmm
Honesty I'm little worried that development isn't going to shine for ATT version.
The reason I feel that way.
Being on sprint EVO , EVO3D , GS2 and Note2 their development was rocking week into release...heck weeks before release. Lots of developers stepped up with rom preview threads etc forums had great vibe.
ATT GN2 development doesn't appear to have strong development base.
If it wasn't for scrosler are development sub forum would still be a ghost town.
The bad news is that he returned his GN2 went with different device on Verizon.
Hopefully some Devs from GS3 upgrade to Note2 time will tell.

Word. :crying:
Ive been rocking the GS2 for almost 2yrs. Rooted within a week and will never like a stock device unless its aokp or cm (AOSP). I've been using PA for months now. My GN2 is supposed to arrive tomorrow and of course I wanted to root it but dont like dealing with all the bugs and instability that I experienced with the GS2. It was a slow show for the i777 as well for a while then it picked up really quick so I hope the same happens for the i317 only faster :good:

Right on.
You will be stoked on GN2 its a sweet device.
I didn't realize how different it would be moving to ATT device.....Forums have a East Coast - West coast feel.
Sprints development side of the pond had a couple head developers that took control with lots of How to threads Video demos etc.
Tars were put together fast , all safety nets were in place in a couple days
I just need to get use to my new playground Sprint dev forum days are over.
But hey, my data Speed is 100% better so its worth the move.
Let's hope we get a lot of leaks quickly like how our International model brethens are getting.

developer in the world can coop with each other. gs2 and Gs3 is a bad example.

Well, the SGN2 is running so well that I don't see what the custom ROMs can add to it at this moment!
I have replaced the Touchwiz UI with the ADW EX launcher + Circle launcher to fully customize my screens to my liking.
Now I have the best of both- full Samsung's cool features, including S-Pen features, and my style screens and customization.
I will monitor the Dev section for a while before I decide to root the phone or not.
This phone is definitely the king of all Android smartphones for now.
if samsung abandons this device for the galaxy s4 or whatever next year and drags their feet on releasing/leaking updates, the developers will move on to something else. a lot of us here upgrade to new phones at least once a year, especially if development is an issue

S to S II to S III

What was your first Samsung device? What did you see in the Second and Third Generation devices that you didn't see in the first? All opinions about all three devices welcome.
AT&T Samsung Galaxy S III
I had the S2 Skyrocket and loved it but I had power button problems with 2 of them so I moved on to the S3. I love the S3, great screen and faster but I have to say I liked the S2 format factor better. The curved S3 is nice but for some reason I liked the more square s2 with the flat screen.

My list:
First one was the Captivate. Great screen, horrible GPS
Second was Galaxy SII. Great screen, great GPS, no LTE
Third was Galaxy SIII: Great screen, great GPS and good LTE (Iphone 5 is faster)

Mine was Samsung Infuse then went to Samsung Captivate then to HTC Vivid since SGII Skyrocket was out lol then hated that **** so now a SGIII and Note II
iPhone 3G -> iPhone 3GS -> iPhone 4 -> Galaxy SIII
I do not miss iPhones.
I got the Samsung Vibrant (the T-Mobile variant of the Galaxy S) and got rid of it 3 months later, as it was a piece of trash (non-functional GPS, laggy RFS file system, lack of timely updates). The gorgeous AMOLED display on that phone was the perfect example of putting lipstick on a pig. In fact, my experience with the Vibrant, as well as the horror stories about Behold II prevented me from buying the GS2. When the Galaxy Nexus came out, I decided to give Samsung another chance. It was (and still is) an excellent device, so the GS3 was a no-brainer when it was released.
My first Samsung was the SIII and it's amazing.
first cellphone of any kind; Captivate- Absolutely hated the phone and was ready to send it back until a friend introduced me to XDA. Loved the phone after that. And the developement is still going strong. I have 3 of them now that belong to 3 daughters. All running JB and modded and themed to their taste. Dislikes, Poor gps, No hdmi, small screen. Great little phone
Second phone: SII Skyrocket. Great phone with no issues. Good developement community but, because it was an LTE version of the SII it kind of gets treated like the bastard child. Cracked the screen. Gave to a friend and set it with his TV with bluetooth motorola keyboard as a mini set top Google tv/ tablet. Good phone
Third phone SIII. They sent me 2 of them (FREE!) as a replacement for the cracked SII. Love the phone. I do have a few issues with it but, those are my issues. The developement community is pretty good. Just seems that the only options right now are TW roms Or CM based roms running 4.2 which, I consider, to be mostly still in a beta stage. The only thing I really don't like is that this forum is a mess which makes it alot less enjoyable to participate in.
Other devices
Tf101 Transformer AOKP JB
MK802 CM JB
The infuse was my initial remedy for iositis, been in love with android since, got the sgs3 at launch. Between, I had a HTC vivid( beautiful screen, first experience with lte, piss poor battery life) and got a couple Asus transformers (still a great tab today).

Galaxy S --> Galaxy S3
I started on the original Galaxy S on AT&T (Captivate). From the moment I got the phone, it was good but not great. GPS issues were an issue. 6 months later I decided to start with ROMs on it and didn't look back from there. Those made all of the difference with the phone. Granted, it still wasn't perfect, but it was so much better than stock. It's too bad the GPS on it was junk, even with the various fixes it never really worked all that great. It's in a drawer for now, as it needs to have its IMEI fixed. Not sure what I'll do with it after that.
Fast forward to last October. I picked up an S3, as my contract was done in July and I figured it was time for an upgrade from my Cappy. So far, so GREAT Everything just works. Touchwiz gets a little tripped up at times, but that's ok. I'm not going to throw a ROM on it for now, as I can do everything I need to and then some without much effort. I do want to enable root, which I will do soon, so I can strip all of the useless AT&T crap off of it that I am not using. Occasionally I'll have issues with battery drain, but I've narrowed most of that down to the crappy Facebook app! It was fine for a little bit and the last update just made it terrible. Oh well .... everything else works and to me that's all that matters!

Iphone -> Captivate -> SIII
Never going back to Apply product.
The Captivate was my first android phone and didn't take 48 hours that it had a custom ROM on it (Firefly for those who remember that awesome ROM). Kept it until a couple weeks ago, handed it down to my little bro who has some knowledge in Dev'in so it will be perfect for his testing. The phone is currently on AOKP JB for something stable. Good thing I never really needed the gps, it's the only bad thing I can say about this phone.
SIII - While it's still getting fully used to it, I like the feel of it. Everything works just like I want it to and the battery+smoothness is crazy. My only complaints would be that the hard buttons (volume/power) feel cheap but as long as they last, I'm fine with that. I'm thinking I will be keeping it until the S5 comes out (expecting about 1yr and a half). And I must say, I'm quite happy to have a new device to play around with. Been testing/modding for 2 weeks and I'm not about to stop
IPhone4 -> Captivate -> Infuse --> GNote ---> iPhone 5 ---> GS3 ...
never looking back to iOS ....that iPhone5 was a mistake in my line up Lol.

Why it's the door on the right always locked?
Amazing phone indeed. I am coming from a One S, and I must say I miss some features from Sense, but Touchwiz ain't bad. I don't need need to root.
Came from Galaxy S3, which is also a great phone, but I like this phone way more. Bigger screen, faster, multi Window etc etc
Came from gs3 then iphone 5 and this phone is sooo amazing. I usually get bored with phones always wanting something better but I haven't had that feeling one time since buying this on release day.

SO this is tmobile gn2 forums. anyone have recommendation on ROMS for the sgh-t889? I LIKE my note 2, but i cant love it unless i can fine tune it with a ROM that will allow me to get rid of the tmo bloat but RETAIN the use of the SPEN. I have tried hyperdroid which i thought was fantastic, uses the resolution of the screen as it should be used (icons, fonts etc) but it rendered my SIM card as "undetected" and disabled the SPEN altogether (which is wierd because Samapps where already loaded)
So, what ROMS are you guys using, what is it lacking or, which one is perfect for tmo sgh-t889?
This is the first phone I've not installed a rom on. Touchwiz has VASTLY improved, imo. I did still root it and uninstall some bloatware, though.

Have you modded Multi Window so you can put in any app? That alone is reason to root this device and have a proper version of what Multi Window should do....
But on the whole, Touch Wiz is fine. I like it.
(But the speed, the speed of it, man!)

Jedi Master 8 is the best Rom around. Super fast and stable. Definitely worth a try. When you root, install TWRP recovery and do a nandroid to be safe. You won't be sorry if you flash it right!
Couldn't agree more. Ive owned dozens of phones and tablets dating back to the 90's and I've never loved a device like this. Samsung is freakin magic.
Truly BlaZZing w/ QuadCore AOSP. LoVe It Too!

HTC One or Samsung Galaxy S4? Anyone upgrading?

I got really disappointed when Samsung released the gs4 and it looked basically the same as the galaxy s3 just with a bigger screen and a few new bells and whistles. So I'm opting for the HTC one cause that thing is sexy all around. What about you guys?

If you like having a device completely locked down go for HTC. Biggest reason I switched away from them

What do you mean exactly? Cause my dad has a htc one s and it was pretty easy to root the phone and install a rom on it.

Are you choosing a phone based on looks alone? Cause the HTC isn't even up to par with the current Euro SIII, let alone the S4 in terms of specs. I guess its about preference but personally I'm pretty intrigued by the S4 eight core processor in a frame slimmer then the SIII, not to mention the 13mp camera features, 5.0 SAmoled (yay no more pen tile) I just don't see a comparison IMO.

First of all, the HTC one has a qualcomm 600 processor which is that the same as the Samsung Galaxy S 4 has in USA, except that the s4 is .2ghz faster in terms of clock speed. Second of all, I'm currently on a contract with t mobile and I was talking about upgrading to the Galaxy s4 or the HTC one, so there's no way I can get the eight core s4. The galaxy s4 has a pentile display. Plus I don't really care about the megapixels or ultrapixels of the camera as long as my pics turn out good and not look like they were taken from a potato.

The source codes take sooo long to be released.
Look at the Amaze 4g and youll see what im talking about.
An awesome phone treated like crap lol.
When it comes to phones and tablets i will not use anything other than Samsung or a nexus. I just can't do it. HTC is a lot harder to root and it takes longer for development and i don't see anything else competing with Samsung.

Phone: Galaxy s2 t989
Rom: SOA Build 2
Kernel: SOA
I'm full of great idea's, but don't have the time to create them or learn the coding to create them. If you want to make one of my ideas a reality just message me and I will give you my idea as specific as possible.
ideas:
-launcher/lock screen
-line rider type game where you control the character
-2d fighting game like art of fighting for the SNES
-multiplayer fps where you create your own map with a creative mode (minecraft style)
-roller coaster tycoon style game
-get phone out of sleep mode
-many more!
Just message me which idea you want info on and I'll tell you!

I'd hold out for the note 3 personally, that's what I'm doing. But then again it's a very long and very impatient wait because I don't think it'll be released until September. It's all on you though bud, there's a bunch of ill phones coming out this year.

I had an HTC VIVID before this phone (cracked the screen), and it was a pain. Unlocking the bootloader, then flashing boot image and blah blah blah just to root and rom it. And then the development thread was WEAK (at the time ) so it was like for no point. I agree with the 2 above mentioned posts regarding source code & development. Its seriously ridiculous & sad!

If I had to pick one of those 2 I would probably go with the HTC One, build quality is way ahead of the S4, I'm tired of plastic phones. My S2 has survived its fair share of drops without no significant damage though so I'm happy with that. Processors are nearly the same unless you're comparing the international S4 and HTC One. The One also has a nicer screen (more ppi). It seems like the biggest knock on the One is the fact that it doesn't have upgradable storage and battery but 64GB is more than enough for me and I never carry an extra battery for my S2 so that is pointless. When it comes to camera quality, the S3 with its 13MP will take better pictures when zoomed in since it has more pixels but the HTC One will blow the S4 out of the water when it comes to night pictures or anything with low light (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I was honestly disappointed with the S4, it seemed like all Samsung talked about at the news conference was all the bloatware they added onto the phone that I'm never going to use.
This is a laughable question. S4 stands head and toe over the crap HTC is throwing out nowadays.
S4 doesn't look like it will get any love from too many dev's

I believe that will be the international s4 with the Exnyos processor that probably wont have much development from what i have read. the North American version
still uses Qualacom, so i am thinking the development will be just as good as the S3.
As for which one i will choose, I will need to see them side by side first before I make any decisions.

If you are one of those people who root and flash away from Professionally built phone software in favor of barely working featureless lackluster crap produced by CM and it's near relatives there is no point worrying about having the newest phone anyway cuz you clearly are not going to use it for anything other than looking at your reflection. honestly you kids would be just as well off with a flip phone and a be-dazzeler.
I could understand the CM worship if this was a walmart prepaid phone with some lame flavor of aosp on it then CM might be a slight improvement but leaving Touchwiz for CM is a huge downgrade every time, all Tochwiz needs is some speedtweaks and a tweaked kernel.
Anyway +1 going to the S4 when It's here, might add a note 3 or even the note2 if I can get a good deal on it!
Wow makes me regret getting the Nexus 4 after what I saw in the GS4. Should have waited. But one this is having Google's latest and greatest code feels awesome. GS2 also has outstanding support and CM10.1
I really miss HTC's look and quality. But they have always been terrible battery life phones. Each one I've had except for the G2. My GS2 is still a champ and love that samsung releases the CODE that makes CM even possible.
And at the presentation I really have to reconsider no SD support and no removable battery. Just this week my old myTouch 4G I gave to my cousin, the battery can't hold charge. He got it replaced and its good as new. To me, having a removable battery just makes it easier to replace it when it does go bad.
I can kinda live with 16 gig and no SD Card, unless you are a heavy media user. But having a removable battery makes it possible to replace it. I don't mind the Samsung plastic. It is cheap and got a mini dent that I can't figure out how it happened on my GS2. I should have put a screen protector to prevent that. Still a mystery how it happened.
My LG G2X, I've never ever ever used at screen protector and its still flawless. Samsung **** is sensitive. They could at least use better plastics if they are sticking with that material.

If you even read the news... htc is yesterday's news...an exact quote "it's not in the kids club anymore" and that is why they pushed the date back for the htc one release...it's not even that it's hard to root, it's that it leaves traces for the carriers and htc to know you've rooted...

This time i will go with HTC.

Why has HTC always had more development then Samsung?

I mean i know the note 3 going to be awesome device but its like it HELLA died off, development is not good as HTCs one I find myself looking through XDA alooot less these days. Hope the note 3 has more support and more talented devs will like to take it on. Ive had HTC before the OG, 3D and one X all good devices and I LOVEd the development man was awesome seeing a new or updated rom every week. Not to mention the way it was able to be customized with venom tweaks. If the T6 really picks up more development like the htc one has over the our version of the note 2 (spint) then damn

And please no one take this offensive by all means im not. Just wondering why development for note 2 basically died off folks
Sent from my SPH-L900 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I don't know about "always". The grass is always greener.
a) Note 2 dev TWiz activity specifically has hit a brick wall because the TWiz ROMs are stable, and Samsung/Sprint has not blessed us with any new code leaks or otherwise. The same would happen on any device regardless of OEM or carrier, if the manufacturer well of code went dry. Ya want new code, seek out AOSP the ROMs are all around quite good.
2) Further, there isn't much more we can do with TWiz. I cannot speak for Sense, but in TouchWiz it is very difficult to alter things without breaking. And thanks to the MASSIVE amount of work put into Morphology by folks like Gyrene it is all at devs fingertips to integrate themed elements or not.
III) HTC only has one real handset of interest, i.e. the One keeping devs that don't mind putting up with HTC's crap all on one device for the most part. Sammy has a swath of different devices from s3/s4/Note2/etc, which spreads out lots of people over different hardware markets.
When Sammy/Sprint decide to ship new code dev activity will pick up...presuming users don't flee to the Note3, under the misapprehension that the same exact thing could never happen on their New Shiney.
Maybe because the HTC One is a newer device? Go take a look on the HTC EVO 4G LTE forum and see if development is popping there. It's not, at least not anymore anyways.. And neither was the 3D, that one died before it even lived. Only HTC device that had hell of development was the OG EVO.

I think a major reason why is because the Note line of phones aren't as popular as any of the high end phones. A lot of people think the screen size of the Note 2 is too big and keeps people from getting the phone. The S4 and S3 development is pretty good, because more people buy those over a Note 2.

Where did you get your facts from? The Note 2 sold 5 million in two months and was the top selling phone beating out the iPhone 5 with the S3 at number 3. And the Note is still selling and still has a higher price than an S4. That's one of the main reasons Samsung is holding off any updates from the Note and S3 because they know it'll dwarf the S4's sales.

The S4 sold 5 million in the first 2 weeks according to:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/haydnsh...sungs-galaxy-s4-closes-in-on-apples-iphone-5/
The Note 2 took the first 2 months to sell 5 million:
http://m.cnet.com/news/samsung-5m-galaxy-note-2-units-sold-in-2-months/57553995?ds=1
The Galaxy S3 took 2 months to get to 10 million:
http://m.digitaltrends.com/mobile/galaxy-s3-sales-surpass-10-million-in-less-than-two-months/
The fact of the matter is that in general, more people are going to buy the smaller high end phones compared to the Note only because of the screen size. Not really sure where you got your facts from.

Just from a user (not dev) point of view, I don't find myself wanting much more than tweaks to the stock ROM. After using a HTC EVO 4G for over 2 years, I feel that compared to HTC Sense, TouchWiz is head & shoulders more stable and a lot less "intrusive" into my Android experience than Sense is. To me, Sense (even the early versions of it that were on the EVO 4G) almost felt like a completely different operating system. I don't feel that way with TouchWiz. With the EVO 4G, I kept feeling the need to flash CM7 because I got tired of all the fluff and bloat that comes with Sense, but I don't feel that way with my Note 2 and TouchWiz. Sure, I've removed some of the bloat apps, but other than running Nova Launcher (to get back the features that the lawsuits have taken away), I'm perfectly happy with mostly stock rooted.
As for the popularity of the Note 2 versus other Samsung models versus the competition (HTC, Apple, etc.), I have no doubt that most people think the Note 2 is too big. And then every single time that someone has noticed that I have a Note 2 they all say some variant of the same thing -- "That's not anywhere near as big as I thought it would be. Man, I'm wishing I'd gone that route now." Given that, I personally think it was probably a mistake for Samsung to market the S4 as "the next BIG thing", but it apparently worked at least fairly well...

The big loser on TWiz is the notification tray/bar implementation...even what is in TWiz 4.2.2 on the s4 is crap compared to stock Android 4.2-4.3...sadly Samsung views their version as "correct' and will probably never change it.
