[Q] Shpongle ROM sources - HTC One V

dear 1ceb0x
first of all i want to thank you very much for creating your great rom.
after installing it, it was the first time i had a responsive smartphone.
as we all know, android is open source and as the Apache License states, derived work must be open source, too.
so will you provide a source code repository or (at least) a downloadable zip of your rom sources somewhere?
this is less about obeying the rules, i'm just frightened, something might happen to you so you can't continue working on the rom and all your work would be lost...

he built it from source as in built from scratch

well - sure he built it from source - from HIS sources
this isn't AOSP vanilla, it's a modified version of the android source, so those sources must be republished

>>??
u can use the rom as base just as long he provides permission to do so

sorry, don't want to be offensive, but this is nonsense.
there's nothing to need permission for.
as long as it's an android rom (which it really seems to be), it is work derived from AOSP and there the license clearly points out what I stated.
(see http://source.android.com/source/licenses.html)
and even if it wasn't - this doesn't answer my concerns regarding him not being able (or wanting) to continue development.

wait for 1ce's reply as i dont get what you're sayin (sorry ):angel:
as for dev. he will sell his v so i think that's the reason he cant continue
:highfive:

when the time comes i will provide my sources. in the meantime, shpongle is yet to see some new updates.

Great to hear this... waiting for update eagerly as i need to give away this after flashing your final rom.
BTW i got my white nexus 4. Hope to see you soon there too...

@rolandkohn don't get me wrong but it's 1ce's decision. He is not forced to release anything because shpongle is a personal project. 1ce built it for himself and was kind enough to share it for free. If he pleases he can also remove the download links and you can't do anything about it. Hence the best approach will be to kindly ask him for source code and not talk about licensing or trying to force his hand. You can take the licensing part with HTC if you want to fight that battle.

ok guys just drop the topic b4 it gets ugly

i first wanted to write this as a personal message, but in the end (as a software developer myelf who wants his licensing terms be cared about), i think this is something important enough for everyone on xda to think about:
please - everyone here - don't get ME wrong...
it's absolutely not that i woud want to force anyone to do something.
as you can see in my first post i was just asking if he would release the source, as i was worried about the future of the project because he's getting a new phone.
for that part, this thread is answered to me. i'm fine with it, no need for further discussion!
now about the licensing part and - as it seems to me, some general misunderstandings here on XDA:
sorry, but you're so wrong. he definitely IS forced to release its source. the apache license (which applies to android) states so. those licenses aren't only about comercial projects, they are about using the original source and doing something with it - You can imagine it as a contract between google and the developer, google gives the sources out for free, but want the terms to be followed in return.
Everyone who is involved into development (and if it's even just using the rom) can be happy, that google is offering android (the open source parts) for free under the apache license. google invested quite some man hours (and money) into android and they've been so kind to let it be open source. anyhow this (the apache license) states that any modification to the source must be made public for everyone (in special the original license holder) to see the changes, to learn from them and to make things in their projects better. if any develper doesn't accept the licensing terms, you don't need to use the sources to do something with them.
btw - it's not my fault that some smartphone manufacturers (e.g. as mentioned htc) don't care about this.

@rolandkohn I can understand that you are afraid that shpongle development might be over since 1ce has bought a new device and that you or anyone else would like to get 1ce sources to continue the development. My reply was about your tone. It would have been better if you asked nicely, instead of being (kind of) rude.
PS: are you sure that the licensing applies to all the projects? For example I am playing with CM sources and I'm building a ROM for personal use. Am I forced to make those sources public? I don't think so.

\Post doesn't belong here. Sorry

well - another very big excuse from my side.
i did quite some reading meanwhile and i have to admit - seems i was wrong.
please - everyone excuse me for my aggressive behavior, it seems i somehow mixed GPL/AL.
as i've read now, you're indeed allowed to even create proprietary work - so software you charge people for - out of AL licensed code.
this means that even HTC & such are fine with not releasing their sources, as long as it's not about GPL licensed stuff (e.g. the kernel).

Google Android ported to Blue Angel

According to this link:
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/products/2008-01-13-android-google_N.htm?csp=34
a company named:
www.a-la-mobile.com
has ported ( or at least built ) Google Andriod to work on a QTek 9090. And you know what that means ?!
Researching their website they do not list a press notice or have any link directly to state that such a build exists, but I highly doubt a new outlet like USA Today would say that if it weren't demonstrated somehow.
Anyone know any more of this company, and how to possibly get a build of Android for us to test ?
Very soon Android will be here for almost HTC devices
http://www.a-la-mobile.com/news/press/pr080114.html
WoWowwwoooowwww
I have a pda2k alias htc blueangel alias qtek 9090
I alredy installed linux on my pda, compile kernel, lib, openmoko, qtopia, angstrom, etc...
'cause android is based on linux kernel, android work on this device with very simple steps(theoretically).
I think, for example, with hh kernel (touch, wireless, power etc..) android is possible!!
guys... please post on this forum all informations about this device and android.
Sorry for english!
Android on BA
Here:
http://www.a-la-mobile.com/news/press/pr080114.html
AAAAAAHHHH!!! YEEEESSSSS!!!!
The question remains
Since a-la-mobile mentioned that there are some "enhanced" applications of their own making, on the build they demonstrated ( curious there are no pictures posted ANYWHERE ), is there ever an intention of releasing this. The issue is that all this Android stuff is out under the Apache license, and though IANAL, my understanding is that they can do this, close it down, make someone (shudder) pay for this (mostly open source) software.
I forwarded an email to their press contact asking them specifically what their intentions for this build are. Letter follows:
Hello Ms. Gong,
I'm writing to you as an inquiry as to the reported build of Android for the QTek9090 ( aka HTC BlueAngel ) Windows Mobile phone. As I understand it from the press release, despite being built on an Android bsae, the application stack with this build is one of your own companies making ?
I'm a member of a rather large community of developers, some in your company sure have heard of xda-developers ( www.xda-developers.com ). For the most part we're developers, trying to get the most out of our hardware's capabilities.Though I'm sure there might be business concerns which may preclude answering, I'd like to pose some questions, which hopefully some at least, a-la-mobile would be able to comment on publicly. My questions are as follows:
1. Is a-la-mobile's interest in this solely as a "proof-of-concept" exercise, as hinted at in the press release ? If so, is there any intention of releasing this build to the development community ( even as a solely binary distribution ) for evaluative purposes ?
2. Is a-la-mobile's direction to possibly produce a commercially available ( to the consumer ) release of this build or some similarly comprised build of Android-based software ? If so, do you have some sort of release date or formal product announcement planned ?
3. Are there any product demonstration videos, demonstrating this accomplishment available for public viewing ?
Thank you for your kind attention, I look forward to your response.
Regards,
......

They are a ${dotcom} company and need to produce some buzz for a ${VC} to be happy ?
Hi! Do you have any news on that?
still no news on this??
Isn't there anyone around here that heard of some more details?
I guess, lots of people must be looking for this solution, and want to reproduce what a La Mobile did earlier? I tried contacting them, without any response (so far), but someone must have been doing similar stuff, getting one of the 'good old BA kernels', and running the SDK provided stuff on it?
Or am I so wrong in thinking this stuff is peace of cake...?
I just want to get this post the most attention possible, and gather everyone around, to speed up doing similar stuff...
Thanks for reading, and for posting your thoughts and ideas on this...
If anyone can help, please do We'll all benefit of it
A la Mobile responded, here's a copy of the mail they sent me:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Bram,
Thank you for your interest in a la Mobile's Android-based prototype
phone stack.
You're absolutely right -- we have received a multitude of requests for
our stack and/or device. Unfortunately, until Google releases the
Android source code, we are not able to distribute either due to their
licensing agreement restrictions.
Best regards,
Margie
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So it basically comes down to the fact that google didn't release any sources yet... or did they? I can't follow anymore..
If google does, and I get an answer they did, I will ask a-l-m again, and we'll see from there
Anyone any other successtories to post?
Any news on this subject? nudge them again!!! I need to get rid of this M$ bullcrap
Before I annoy them again with the resend and requestioning about freeing their roms and sources, just a question:
Is the Google Android code 'Open Source' and released as such, already.
I'm not into this too much, and I don't have that much time.
Maybe someone knows already, has been looking through it.
I know there's an SDK released, but is the source released under some GPL, Apache, or other open license model too???
If so, let me know, and if possible where the statement of this releasing is to be found, so I can start harassing them again
Hoping they will listen, and release the code or a rom-to-be-uploaded so we can all start enjoying open and free software on our beloved devices
Thanks for the support
Bram
Main question, is where did they take the Blueangel kernel sources code. We are working on it at handhelds.org but for example camera support is missing. Else any people can follow guide on Internet " howto extract Android from emulator and run it on linux device", we have already the kernel, so just need to follow the howto and do same.
Good luck , i continue to work on Qtopia or GPE on Blueangel
Regards,
Fabrice
Android booted on HTC BlueAngel
Hallo everybody,
I am new to this forum and my English ist not the very best... Sorry for that.
I am also very interested in running Googles Android on my Qtek 9090 (alias Blue Angel). On searching for available howtos in the Internet I#ve found this Page:
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/af897628cf21e455
This Person was really able to boot this Stuff on his Device.
So maybe this is a good starting point!
I will try this out, as soon as I can. (If my wife let me ;-))

How to?
best way to add this in my opinion is over Binary100100's Community Hero Mix
With that said, it's more like an add on to Binary's already crazy cool theme.
You can apply it as a standalone theme, but at this point in time, don't...
So in other words,
1.Backup
2.flash CM-4215_CHM_BinaryRelease+---Launch.zip (v1.8) (if you don't already have it)
3.flash Meclairo+___Launch+Lockscreen.zip
reboot and enjoy!
I have confirmed myself that this works on cm 4.2.15.1 !!! Other ROMs could apply. Like stated above, theme is based off Binary100100's Community Hero Mixso please be a labrat.

Ok so I have been crackin out on this for the past little while and I want to share the wealth with everyone else. This couldn't have been done if it wasn't for all you out there who helped me. This is a mashup of Binary100100's CHM+Steiricsson Lockscreen and many others that I found. Icons came from the web from an open source project.
Being that I don't pay attention to names around here, credit goes to this guy and who ever else wants to chime in,

Please Remember to give credit to those whos work you use, for instance, the dialer you are using was created for darkstar by me, freekyfrogy and djosiah all we get for our hard work is credit, and that is enough, but its a little saddening to see other people using our work without tell people who did it.
Sorry to rant, but you know.

Once again, thank you for all the help and thank you to all the devs and themers out there for the great material to work upon!!
After reading the thread Super E (if you're not aware of it, don't worry), it came to my attention that there are a select few of us (mainly one, as of now...) who "steal" the work from others and claim it as their own. I for one, think this is wrong. I like to give credit to those who deserve it but I must confess, sometimes I don't know where the credit needs to be given.
I'm still new to the xda forums. About a month long member as of 2-5-10.
The quote above was not placed to make this guy look bad. It was placed to remind me of who he is. So for all you haters out there and wrecking crew, don't bash cause that wasn't my intentions.
But as another member mentioned, and I don't remember his name...
Open source is about no one "owning" the work.....We all should thank HTC and Google
Click to collapse
With that in mind, we need to come to an understanding that ALL themes and ALL ROMs have some shared values. Rather it be the compile that the guys in the Super E thread were speaking of while bashing Ben accusing him of never making anything of his own or the man above telling me to credit his dial pad while I use it.
In my opinion, none of this matters with an open source platform such as Android and Linux. If it's out there and you know how to customize it to your pleasing, by all means do so cause I would love to see what the next guy comes up with on top of what I already had. As said once, if it weren't for the man coming along and picking up where the last man left off/ if it weren't for the man coming along and improving upon what the last man left off, we'd still be in the dark ages...
So to some of you, ya. I guess I am a thief but I don't see it that way.
I see myself as a dev/theemer (whatever you wanna call me) from the open source platform of the future.
This will be the greatest platform if we devs/theemers would just squash the beef with the whole "you stole my ****" thing cause really, we're all stealing from someone.

[Port][ROM]Gone TeamGalaxySense Htc Sense Port...READ THE WHOLE FIRST POST!!!

This is the internal alpha of our team's last effort, first of all its an alpha build, so dont expect it to be a day to day use rom, theres a lot of bugs/issues so many its useless to post them here lol, main issues that pretty much halted the project were these two:
1.Phone Service crashing on wcdma bands.
2.Htc lockscreen call gets delayed by 5min or more.
No one on the team manage to fix these two and so everything just went to a stop cause of this, sorry if people got disappointed but we all tried our best, with these been said please follow this rules after downloading the internal alpha:
1.Do not report bugs
2.Do not make post like "its laggy omfg" "my raindeer dint come for xmas cause of this ****ty rom!!" "dad grounded me cause of downloading romporn" "oh mah gawd bugxor rom no work bull**** ahhhh!" really we dont care at this point.
3.Dont flame us because we dint deliver a working rom...
Anyways download it try it, and if you feel like you can fix it then please do so, thats why we decided to release it, so that maybe someone out there can fix it, supposedly theres another team porting sense to the SGS devices, personally i haven't seen it, also if theres indeed one there assholes, for never contacting us or sharing ideas with us, i mean dont we all want the same thing?? but hey maybe they grabbed one of our alpha builds, and work't of that, idk and at this point i dont care, so anyways enjoy the rom.

Banner thanks to SebianotiI've just noticed that this has made the XDA portal. It's been up on quite a few websites today that I've noticed, and I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the writers who have helped spread the word. If you are one of them, you're awesome!
This is a port of Jellybean, based off of the roms for the two nexus devices that were released yesterday. I'm working to add in all of the key features at the moment, and it's going pretty well, so you can probably expect to see some kind of Alpha release fairly soon.
It's based off the porting work done for CM9 for our phone in the topic here, with some help from randomblame in the #cyanogenmod-dev channel. (Thanks!)
Working
Core system with little to no crashes
Not working
Wifi

Ironically, the issue we've been trying to resolve with CM9 for this phone, the rotation bug, appears to be fixed here. Not sure whether to laugh or cry

Progress log
Now based off of the Nexus 7 tegra rom. Things are running a lot smoother and with little to no crashes
Wifi firmware loaded, just need to get it talking with netd and we'll have wifi
I have been able to manually configure wpa_supplicant and it successfully scans for networks. The problem now is that the rest of Android seems to be having trouble communicating with wpa_supplicant.
To those PMing me asking about porting info: Don't expect there to be a simple cut and paste way to port. If you have no experience with porting or don't at least have an understanding of how android is structured, then I would advise you to read up before attempting this. I can provide targeted help if you have a specific issue, but I won't port it for you, and please don't be offended if I suggest you go do some reading.
If you still think you can do this, then here's a checklist of the major things you should look at to get it booting:
boot.img - Grab mine or any other jellybean boot.img, and pull the entire init.rc and init.traces.rc, and package it up with a cm9 boot.img
/system/lib/modules + /system/lib/hw - Modules must be brought across from a cm9 rom, and unless your device runs the same chipset as the base you're using (tegra for the n7, omap for the gn), you'll probably need to put all of the hw libs into there too
/system/etc/firmware + /system/vendor - You'll most probably need to pull both of these dirs into the rom
/system/lib/egl - You'll want all of the egl libs and egl.conf
Various /system/etc files - There's usually some configs, firmware, and other stuff in here
/system/lib - There's tons of files in here, a lot of which you'll need to bring over, and a lot of which you'll need to leave alone. Best advice I can give you is to find an open source cm9 tree for your device and check the proprietary-files.txt file
That's it. By now you should at least have it showing the boot animation. Now it's up to you and your debugging tools. strace is invaluable if you have a specific binary that doesn't want to load, it'll show you all of the system calls it makes and the errno if one gets set. Read through the logcat carefully and it'll probably tell you if you're missing any libraries or other files. Good luck.
Nice work so far! Can the 4.1 apps be ported back to 4.0.4?
This way we can use the new apps like the launcher and what not without using 4.1?
Holy S..t! That was fast .... Awesome work mate

It would, see mdeejay's post above, but like I said in the first post my interest basically stops here, I'm not really looking to maintain this rom.

Understandable, no point continuing tbh until source is out

Exactly, when the source is out we can have fully working builds rather than ugly cooked up things, and I'm willing to live with ICS until then.
I don't get it... there is no Blackscreen while roating bug...
Overall nice to see!
I also worked on that the whole night got it nearly bootet up, my ramdisk was fine, the bins of my sdk may where broken...

Haha, you're right, there is no rotating bug! As I said, I probably couldn't have done it without help from the other SDK port that was done for another phone, if I'd known you were working on it too we could have worked together and had it done faster.
System dump here apparently
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ystem-dump-is-out-modders-start-your-engines/
Is that what you guys need or am I reading wrong?

The only System dump that is really helpful is the one for the Nexus 7 cause that is an Tegra 3 driven Device!
What we really want is the AOSP Sourcecode so we can build up a nice and clean build!
Ahh fair enough mate

The 3.0 tegra kernel for the Nexus 7 is already in the AOSP repos as part of their legal obligation. The kernel is GPL licensed and the device was released today.

So nvidia have released the source code for Tegra 3?
Cause i was reading a few weeks ago they had no intentions to do so, because it might release some code that's currently used as leverage against the competition.

Check out the kernel/tegra repo on aosp, theres a 3.1 (I believe) kernel source in there. Not sure on nvidia's stance.
Hmm... well there are some https://android.googlesource.com/kernel/tegra.git but they are from 15th of June...
I am checking them out and will look for a "nasaki" config file
good job .. great work! :cyclops:

Who's back? We're back.
CarbonROM is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look, build, and use our code at CarbonROM's GitHub... and at CarbonROM Gerrit.
Disclaimer:
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.
Support:
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has addressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.
We only support Dynamic GApps, reports on force closes with any other packages will be ignored.

This is in no way to offend you. I am sorry in advance if it feels like that to you. I don't know how to say it but instead releasing so many unofficial Roms, can you make only 1 or 2 Roms and give them official status by being their maintainer?
What's your view in this?
Like paranoid android needs device maintainers.

CarbonROM has inbuilt signature spoofing for microG, yes?
EDIT: Never mind I was reading the post wrong and assumed that the "Download here" link was for the GAPPS.

For anyone wondering this ROM currently has no version of PIE. I only say as it is something I myself want.
Anyone else having bluetooth issues? When I toggle it on nothing happens (it doesn't search for devices) and "refresh" is greyed out. I've tried clearing cache and data to no avail. Everything else works great so I really hope I can sort this out.

I confirm, been on this ROM for 2 months now (achievement for me as no ROM ever lasts for me more than a week or two), everything was so great; but, updated on the latest version the bluetooth is no longer working, it doesn't start in the first place.
