Can't receive SMS on stock app - Google voice won't turn off! - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

My SMS will not receive messages at all. I use in conjunction with google voice, and then I receive them fine, but if I elect to receive via messaging app, I can send SMS's all the time, but nothing will show as received in the SMS app - they will still appear in my google voice though when I check voice online. I am on latest stock version of rom and still nothing works to receive SMS via messaging app. Any ideas on what could be causing this and how to fix it? I tried other SMS apps from the market but they do not receive messages either.
I have tried the short codes to turn Google voice on (*71) but the short code to turn Voice off (*73) doesn't work - just get a prompt stating this short code is not valid. Any help?

Google Voice has been known to cause issues with other messaging apps. You can try uninstalling Google Voice to see if that resolves the issue.

I go into Google Voice app and select the option to only receive SMS via the stock messaging app. It saves the option, but then I do not receive any SMS on the stock app - but if I log into my google voice account the messages do arrive there. I've deactivated Google Voice completely, I've uninstalled the app, I've done everything - still can't receive messages on my stock app. I'd read before that there's a short code (*71 and *73) to manually turn on/off Voice, but only the *71 talk works, *73 is disconnected. Need some help!

Did you disable Google Voice via the Phone, or PC ? You may have to do it via the PC ?

Tried disabling it both ways through PC and phone. Even called sprint to disable it - still doesn't change a thing.

When you say you tried disabling it through the PC, can you be more clear? I know that sometimes when flashing a new Rom, some Google Voice (GV) settings have been changed.
One setting in particular is the setting on the PC which says which phones should receive texts. I have highlighted the setting below:

Sometimes when I flash a new ROM, GV will automatically deselect the check box saying to receive messages on the phone. When that happens, I just go to that page and recheck it, and it's good to go!

Is this a CM7 problem? Fixable?

So for the past month I have not been able to call my girlfriend. It rings twice and goes straight in to google voice. Nothing happens on her end. We both have rooted incredibles running CM7 stable. I cant figure this out. She gets calls from all of her other contacts with no problem and I can also call everyone else in my phone no problem. She can also call me without any issues. Only problem is me trying to call her. I figured it was an accidental blacklist problem, but can't find anything in settings. Any ideas?

Is your number somehow set to go straight to voicemail. I know contacts in sense roms have that option, not sure about cm7.

I remember seeing that with sense roms I've used in the past, but couldn't find anything within CM7.
Anyone else have any ideas? It's not the internal send-to-voicemail feature. That is unchecked....Can't figure this out and I don't know how much help a Verizon store would be considering both phones are rooted and running custom roms...
These may be a stupid questions, so I apologize, but is she always logged into GVoice? I've had that happen if I've logged out for some reason, usually when flashing a new ROM and not setting it up... Her GVoice number is set up to forward to her actual Verizon cell # right? You may need to log into GVoice via web browser to set that up if not already.

If that were the case wouldn't that happen for every person who calls her? She's been at my work and can receive calls from my work line, but not my cell phone. Its literally only my specific cell number that gets bounced right to voicemail. WHICH sounds like it would be a blacklist issue, but its not...

True, but that depends on what number they are calling. If they are calling the actual Verizon cell phone #, then no, it would ring through. When you call do you call using your GV#? I would set GV to ask every time you make a call, call without using GV and see what happens. I would test that by calling not only her GV number, but her regular Verizon # as well. Basically you'd be calling from your GV number twice, and your Verizon # twice.
Your work line is a different phone #, not a GV number correct? Testing it out will definitely tell you if it is for sure a GV issue or something else.
did anyone ever figure this out? i'm having the same issue over the past few days, but my GF has an iphone. never had the problem before flashing cm7...but then again i didn't have this issue before a few days ago and i've been running cm7 for a little over a week now...

When are we gonna have Visual Voicemail?
Can somebody develop a generic visual voicemail app that can retrieve voicemails using the service providers settings, after manual input.
This shouldn't be hard. I have iPhone visual voicemail package still on my account, if there was an app available I'm sure I could just plug in the retrieval settings and it could work.

Android has this for years, go to the market and download Google Voice. Follow directions closely. Voice has a lot of features.
then go to voice.google.com to set it up. The only feature you want is the voice mail on your android(you can use it for other things too)

(i might be reading this wrong) Google voice mail feature is free, using google voice to make phone calls is not free to certain places.
You might need to get a phone # to join, after that never use it. Just associate's your # with voice.
I was replying to the free visual voice mail comment. Its not free from Verizon unless on the iPhone.

so I'm a little confused here. So google voice can be used as a voicemail service for my existing wireless number without having to register a new number with google voice? Free of charge?
Btw is not that easy to get Google voice up and running here in Canada, its currently limited to the US also.. I have to use market enabler and a few other things to bypass the fact that it is only avail in the states..

Wish I could get a visual voicemail account in Canada. I have a google voice account but the app doesn't work on my nexus. Sigh. Anyone have any solutions for across the border? I can make calls from my phone using google voice using GrooveIp.

Verizon DOES indeed have an official visual voicemail app for the GN. Search the Market for "Visual Voice Mail Nexus" (publisher is Verizon Wireless). If this helped, please hit the "thanks" button.
PS-I'm in the US so I can't verify that it's functional in Canada, but it definitely works great for me. It is subject to VZ's $2.99/mo fee. I hate paying the fee, but I need to use carrier voicemail (not 3rd party service), and $3/mo is a small price to pay to avoid having to listen to 20 voicemails to get to the one I want

No not at all. Google voice lets you keep your same number and just takes over your voicemail only so there is no change whatsoever. You only use google voice for calls if you want to.
GV just replaces your voicemail and keeps everything else the same.

You guys are VZW users with Google Voice so I am hoping someone here can verify my assumptions....
I realize you can use GVoice as visual voicemail... if you want to utilize your data plan for text and GVoice on VZW I assume you have to at that point get a new GVoice number different from your VZW number. Is that correct?
I ask, because I am now on Sprint and my GVoice is my Cell number. If I move to VZW will they force a new GVoice number on me? I know my Sprint number is portable to VZW, as I have checked that. It would be nice to be able to still get texts on GVoice with my main number and avoid a text plan.

I hate having the check my voicemail calling, so I loved that Google Voice would intercept it and I was able to just play it. (Sort of like the iPhone)
You guys know how it works.
Anyway, I've set it up as the default Voicemail service, but it still goes through to T-Mobile or whatever.
So, my question is.. how can I get Google Voice to work how it's suppose to?
How is it better than tmo visual voicemail?

Ah, nah.. I've tested the T-Mobile VM, not sure why I prefer the Google Voice, it doesn't look all T-Mobile bloated, I guess. >.<
Anyway, I got it working! Guess setting it up on the Galaxy S3 with TouchWhiz or whatnot doesn't update the forwarding numbers.
So, doing it online did the trick for me!

It used to say 'Activate GoogleVoicemail on this device,' it gave me a number to dial on my Dialer, and bam! Worked.
I'll mark this as resolved, ahah.
I haven't used gv too much but the few times I did the full site always resolved the problem lol.
I'm using Gvoice for VM bcz I can't bring my phone into work. When someone leaves me a VM, I can listen to it online.
That said, it was a multistep process to get it to work. Had to sign in to Gvoice on the web, then go to prefs, make sure my phone was added, then select Gvoice to do VM for that phone. It then gave me a code I ad to type into my phone to actually activate it.

1) Turn of VM
2) set default VM number to GV number.

Took two tries, but got my GVM working again. Was working fine ... then all of a sudden my regular VM and VVM kicked in and GVM would not take voice mail any longer. Was driving me nuts. Thanks for the info.
I just called them up and told them I wanted to use google voice as my voicemail and wanted to disable tmobile's voicemail altogether. They walked me through to the actual voicemail settings which obviously didn't work and then he asked me if he wanted me to disable the visual voicemail. I said yes, and from that point forward it started working with and without wifi calling. I was able to select Google Voice as the voicemail service and it actually showed up in the list.
If all else fails
I am on CM10 nightly and I couldn't get this working using the install or code from the voice website and since my employer controls my tmo account, I am limited in what I can get from TMO. I did figure out a way to get it working
Steps -
phone app ->menu-> call settings -> call forwarding
I sent all of these forward options except for "Always" to my google voice number. This seems to be working now.
In the dialer type *004*+1gvoicenumber# that should set everything up

[GUIDE] {How To} Get Wi-Fi calling for AOSP/CM/Etc...

So, I have the need for Wi-Fi calling in certain places, mainly inside buildings, and I am sure I am not alone. This is not the perfect work around but does allow the ability to receive and make calls over Wi-Fi.
Before you start calling me an idiot and all, I do know this information is available on the internet if you scour hard enough, but I thought I would make it easy for those that crave the utilization of their Wi-Fi calling without the use of downloading apps and having to answer through them (cause it does suck, I don't care what you say).
This will in no way harm your phone, so there is no need for a disclaimer, but don't get all uppity with me if you can't figure it out from this guide. It is straight and to the point.
What you will need:
A Google Voice Number
A get on Sip Account found here.
An IPKall Account/number found here.
How it works:
After you have set up your google voice, getonsip, and your IPKall account we will forward them in a specific order.
1st, get and forward your IPKall account to your getonsip account.

Next, we want to set up the phone.
1. Open the dialer app, and pull up the settings. Scroll to the bottom and click the "Accounts" button under Internet Calling.
2. Click on "Add Account"
3. Expand all the options and on a computer log into your getonsip account. Click on the profile button to get your Internet Calling settings. Fill in the blanks as necessary.
4. If successful, the account will register.
5. Set up conditional call forwarding under the Other Call Setting section by choosing the "GSM call settings button" from the dialer settings.
6. Forward to your G-Voice number using "Forward when unreachable"
And Finally, set up your Google Voice number to forward to your IPKall number. This requires verification, and important it rings to your phone first because it needs the dial pad.
If you have followed my directions, you should now have Wi-Fi calling. Turn on Airplane mode, connect to Wi-Fi, then verify your IPKall number by picking up the handset when it rings and verify your google voice forwarding.
This does not enable SMS/MMS over Wi-Fi, but receiving calls only. If you really need to call out while on Wi-Fi, download GrooveIP or Spare Phone App for true Google Voice WiFi calling.

Question Phone call on watch

I was sitting around and my wrist starting buzzing and vibrating a lot. It was an unfamiliar sensation. I looked at it and it was a phone call, I THINK. I did not recognize the number and did not answer it. The issue is that I did not receive any calls on my associated Pixel 6 Pro phone. Since that is the phone/number associated with the watch wouldn't the phone have received the call at the same time? Phone History shows no calls. Am I missing something? Does the watch have its own phone number? Service through Google Fi.
edited to add: I just visited Fi's site. There was no phone call last night according to their records. Very ODD

Because your phone has spam filter turned on white your watch doesn't have this feature
Under settings > notifications > mute notifications there after these settings, might be worth checking them!

Thanks for the reply. But really what I'm trying to figure out is how the watch got the call but the phone it is associated with did not get that call. And there is no evidence that the phone was ever part of that particular call.
Spam filter might be the reason. I don't think that the watch has a separate phone number.

If it has an eSim it will be a different phone number that is linked to your mobile phone number.

I don't know that the watch contains but presume esim. I don't think I have a sim card in the Pixel 6 Pro. So it is probably an esim in there.
I just turned off the phone and used the watch to call my land line. The number that shows up on caller-id is my cell phone number and not a separate number for the watch. Google Fi suggests that the watch will share the number and data with the phone it is associated with.
So spam filter that might be on the phone but not the watch might be the reason. Although, again, from what I can tell, the Oregon number that called seemed like an ordinary person (guy answered and just said "hello, hello" as I hung up) so no reason it would be in a spam listing but maybe it is spam.
I am more curious about the process which is why I posed the question. This is my first smart watch with LTE.
