[Q] screen off/on app for use with cover - One (M7) Themes and Apps

just picked up a wallet case/cover for my HTC one. i was wondering if there is an app that will turn the screen off/on when the cover is closed/open using the sensors. i tried a few apps in the store and had no luck.

I used Smart Screen ON for a while on past devices - it uses the proximity sensor. In my time using it (quite a bit), I didn't see any ill effects. It was also very effective.

Yeah, without too much battery drain as well. Actually, next to none if you turn off motion.

Sweet, thanks for the quick replies. Checking them out now.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2

I personally use a tasker profile to lock & turn screen off when I put it face down on my desk, or in my pocket.
in monitor section, allow proximity sensor while screen off (yes)
it does not drain my battery too much (less than 1% usage)
context :
if proxymity sensor on then lock device (with secure settings plugin)
exit task : wake device (still using secure settings plugin)
You need to be rooted I guess (not sure though)
Otherwise you can use smart screen on, but the battery drain was (slightly) more important on my device... Try it out!

Samsung quick glance

Hi guys,
Did any body nanaged go get this function working. Even though the appropriate setting is ticked I can't get the the phone light up when switched off!

I hope ur not turning the phone off while testing this function. .. The screen had to be locked. ..
Anyway. .. You have to swipe your hand over the light sensor while screen is off

Place the phone on flat surface after locking it.
Now swipe your hand over your phone screen from top to bottom without touching the screen.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Just hover your hands over the light sensor, but you have to do it kind of slowly and also it response at least 1s after you have hovered your hand over your phone. It's not really that useful of a function, more of a gimmick.
I do want to ask, do these motion functions really drain the battery a lot? As this means the motion sensor is always on.

Its a cr*p feature -- or at least the implementation is. You need to sort of hover or cup your hand over the sensors and move it away slowly. Then sometimes it 'works', which means if you do it right about a second or two later the screen slowly wakes up and shows some info. All this takes 4-5 seconds, in which time you could have quickly switched the screen on and off anyways in lesser time.
Gimmick, as someone has pointed out above.
Not only your hand, but anything that cover the light sensor.
Try to calibrate the gyroscope

Hi, this is my first post here.
Please try to calibrate your gyroscope
To do this go to Advance settings and calibrate it.
I have question too about this QUICK glance (but actually slow glance)
I like this to use to check the time specially during night.
But it is really not quick when I use mine and my friend sister told me that hers is fast.
Does somebody know how to do it make it fast?
kind of a useless feature IMO. doesn't display much in the quick glance screen. much easier to just press the home key.
Yeah, ur right the home button is faster. But I dont believe this is crap feature, it depends in situation. In my side I use this glance feature during night and wake up to check the time not hurting the eye for glare. And in theater also you can use this to check the time, it is really respectfull if you try not to distract others inside the theater.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I think it's useful for checking the time at night.
I just quickly pass my hand over the front and a second later time is illuminated for a few seconds
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
guys, it works fine. just hover your hand in front of the sensor just in and out just like that all in less than1 second for me. it works everytime perfectly. very convenient. can someone confirm if this drains massive amounts of battery or negligible.
After trying the feature several times -- during which it did not work -- I then went in and did the gyroscope calibration. Then went back in, turned Motion on, and turned Quick Glance on. Now it works.
It was working for me up until last week, now my light sensor and or my proximity sensor seem to have stopped working all together. I am unable to get it to work at all. Is there any way to increase the light sensor sensitivity?
Works fine here.
Послато са GT-N7100 користећи Тапаток 2
It works just fine, but my problem is I like to have a screen timeout of 10 minutes, and manually turn my phone off when I want. Half the time I would click it off and set it down, it would immediately wake back up because my hand was over/near the sensor as I set it down.
Works perfect here whatever screen timeout I have set.
Remember that the phone had to be perfectly still and possibly on a level surface for it to work.
Regarding using battery I've read that the n2 has a slower processor dedicated to the motion features do doesn't fire up the main processor when using these features.
Sent from my Samsung Note II.
This feature is ok, but it's something a lot of people can live without. It'd be more impressive for us if Samsung extended this to other controls in their main apps, such as allowing this gesture when you receive a call. Wave your hand over the phone and it'll automatically pick up the call in speakphone mode. The Pantech Sky Vega had this feature when it launched last year and something like this is super useful if you're working with your hands (getting them dirty).
http://youtu.be/dG8tfaJswuY
It works for me to.
It also works for the flip cover. So when I just open the cover the glance appears then swipe the screen to unlock..no hard buttons to push
The question though.
I how can we tell if it does drain the battery.?

Search for "IntelliCover" on Google Play. or just click --> https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wyLDEsImNvbS5kcmFnb25uaXMuaW50ZWxsaWNvdmVyIl0.
Works perfectly with my Note 2. No wakelocks whatsoever. And best of all, it's free!
If you're using a dark-colored flip cover, you may want to stick a light-colored sticker on the part of the flip cover that goes against the proximity and light sensors...

Are you noticing much of a battery drain with this? Also, any concern with shortening the life of the proximity sensor since it's always on?
Edit:
The red light always stay on in the sensor? And am I not configuring something right because I have to enter my code every time even tho its set to 30 minutes of inactivity.

Proximity sensor (red light) will always be on because that's how the app detects whether you've closed the case or not.
You have to enter your code every time because although you have it set to 30 minutes of inactivity, when the app detects you've closed the flip case it turns the scree off the same way pressing the power button would, so the phone will block instantly rather than wait the 30 minutes you set it to.
I'm not sure if the setting exists on Samsung based roms, but on cm, in the bit where you elect your lock screen security there's an option for "power button instantly locks" which should prevent this from happening.

Such a setting also exists in Samsung ROMs, but IntelliCover doesn't recognize this setting apparently, or so it seems...

I haven't noticed any hit on my battery life, but try it out. Doesn't fail to get to deep sleep on mine, as it normally would. No wakelocks as far as I can tell with BBS.

[APP][Android 6+] Ambi-Turner - wake up ambient display

I've created an app that wakes ambient display when you take the phone out of your pocket or if you have the phone face down and turn it over. The app is in addition to Google's ambient display and does not change your lock screen in anyway.
I added a few other paid features for lift to unlock, wave to unlock, pulsing at an interval, and battery percentage display on the ambient display.
I have a thread going on the Pixel XL forums and a number of people have been testing it out. I think it's stable enough to start spreading the word.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions or run into any problems. Thank you!
Check it out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.ambiturner
I'm interested, but it appears your link is dead.
Edit: found it in play store. Went ahead and got pro for lift to wake.

I'm testing it since four days and can absolutely recommend it.
No battery drain here at all. Proper functionality and even more options with every new version.
Keep up the great work.
Edit: do you have PayPal? I'm gonna hook you up with a beer.

Haha, thank you. The app support is more than enough thanks!
Just bought the pro version. Coming from a note 7 and missing that ambient display, this great app will do.
Looks great.
Thank you very much sir
Trying it on a Nexus 6p. So far i'm loving it.
Bought pro, thanks!
So I've done some limited testing with the app white listed from doze and so far it improves the responsiveness significantly. I don't know the battery impacts yet, but if it's not noticeable I'll add code to prompt users to white list it.
Other upcoming changes:
Advanced settings to adjust wait times for how long the phone has to be in your pocket or laying flat before a wake can occur.
A pulse option that initially pulses faster when a notification comes in, and progressively shows down until the timeout.
Possibly change in lock screen battery indicator appearance.
Filter on laying flat thresholds. I suspect the accelerometer incorrectly reports the phone tilted while it is laying flat on occasion.
Just bought the Pro version, thanks for the nice app.
Unfortunately the ambient display doesn't light up on my Pixel if the phone is unlocked, e.g. by SmartLock. Typically, I have the phone lying next to me on the desk at work or at home und the phone is unlocked by location based SmartLock. This is where I would like to see incoming notifications without touching the phone. Do you think this is possible to implement?

Doesn't work for me.
More important (maybe only for me): the screen doesn't light up without interaction if the phone is unlocked by smartlock. That's the same behavior as with the ROM build in ambient display feature. It only lights up the screen when the phone is locked.
Thanks a lot for looking into that. This would overcome the disappointing original Google ambient display implementation!
If i can help somehow (testing,...) please let me know.

Tested again..
Ambi-turner enabled.
In display settings
Ambient display : on
Display timeout : 15sec
Security settings:
Pin lock screen after 10min
On/off button locks immediately
(I'm not on an English version, hope the translations are understandable)
The phone is in an area where is unlocked by location based smartlock.
Test 1: wait for 15sec until the screen switches off, wait another minute, send me an WhatsApp from 2nd phone: i hear the notification sound, screen doesn't turn on. If i turn on the display using the on/off button i am on the home screen.
Test 2: switch off the screen by on\off button, (i can hear the lockscreen notification) and send me a WhatsApp from another phone. I hear the notification sound, screen turns on and shows the message. If i turn on the phone by on/off button I'm on the lock screen.

Just bought pro - nice job!
I' ve just tested it on my Nexus 5 with PureNexus 6.0.1 rom. PN has ambient display function in settings but it doesn't work because Nexus 5 doesn't have pick up sensors or pocket sensors. Therefore I've been looking for some solution how to wake it, for example cmactions-wave to wake or similar. For the previous period I've been using GravityBox but it's battery hungry.
I see now that ambi-turner works also, so testing it ATM...

Keyboard case

I got this keyboard case https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Gala...D=418-%2BKpAMDL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
and really like it but one this that I don't like is that when I'm not using the keyboard and close the cover, it doesn't turn off the screen. Can anyone confirm that that's normal or am I missing something?
If I'm not wrong my screen turns off when I disconnect the tablet from the keyboard :\

Yes, mine does that. But what about if you're not using the keyboard, when it's just opened and flipped back, does your Tab S3 turn on when you open the cover?
No I don't think it does that (I'll verify later as I don't have my tablet now).
But now that you mention it, it would be easy to do so using sensors: screen facing downward and light sensor detects no light. :\
My screen doesn't turn on when I open it. Do you guys know if there's anyway to disable the auto sleep when you disconnect the keyboard? Sometimes its very annoying.

Agreed. It turns off the Tab when disconnecting the keyboard, but can't turn ON when you open the keyboard! I like this case/keyboard but that's an annoyance I could do without.

Yes, mine does that. But what if you're not actually using the keyboard? Such as opening the cover and bending it back to just use the Tab for reading or playing a game? I would think a sensor should detect it being open and turn on.
Yeah! I guess it could be done for example using the light and/or proximity sensor. Maybe there is such an app in playstore. I would be surprised if there wasn't one :\

Didn't even think to look (until now). There's a paid app called Smart Cover that doesn't work as we don't have a proximity sensor and another called Smart Screen On/Off that will let you double tap to turn off that works, so at least there is less wear on the Powe button.

Well if this is what you are worried about, then you can wake your device using your fingerprint without pressing any buttons.
If you want also to turn off your screen without pressing any hard button, then I guess you can use the app that I created for my Samsung Galaxy Note 8, which turns off the screen allowing it to unlock using biometrics and which is completely free (I'm happy just by knowing that people find it useful)

flip cover app that turns off the screen

Hi all, I tried several apps that turns off the screen when using a flip cover case. None of them work properly. Does anyone knows where I can find a working one.

No one will work I think, frustrating, I used gravity screen app for turning on/off the screen via prox sensor, with past devices, but I found that with this note10+ with underscreen sensor it no longer worked, tried some othwr apps without success, my guess is that samsung no longer allows third party apps to make use of this sensor, so I think only their own flipcover case will work

I can recommend the samsung led view case. Its pricey (90 aussie dollars, i got it for $62 on special)
But it does what it says it will, the in-built led panel in the front of the case displays notifications, and you can design your own icon for different apps/contactsvor use one of the 20+ included icons.

Absolutely correct, sorry... I misread your post. If you want double tap to sleep, you need to use nova or lawnchair or another 3rd party launcher. Its really odd that samsung hasn't included it to their launcher.
Thanks for the info!
