Artists needed for WP7/PC MMORTS

Hopefully this is the right forum, and hopefully im not breaking any rules by posting this here!
Im looking for artist(s) for a game I am working on in Silverlight. It is a cross platform Windows Phone 7 and PC rts style game. Kinda crossed between Civilisation and C&C i guess. It is post-apocolyptic isometrical style, a bit like fallout i guess (BUT NOTHING LIKE FALLOUT LAWYERS! ;D).
I am in desperate need for artists as my art skills are really poor. I am coding the game and have a couple of people working on tech trees/balancing etc. The game is still in a resonably early state, although it is playable multiplayer already via web.
Id love to show you what I have, however I have not added the security layer yet so its currently still running on my local apache server
At the moment I have not begun the WP7 version, but i have tested what i have and it works, however it is not built for the aspect ratio yet, so until graphics are organised that part won't happen.
If anyone is interested, please let me know via this thread or PM.
Thanks for reading
Id like to help you out with graphics, what kind of scale would you be wanting for your game? detailed graphics skinning? more details the better and what kind of dedication to time.
Rosco
Hi Rosco.
Thanks for your reply!
We are not looking for a great deal of time dedication, although i guess it depends how quickly you can draw etc We also have day jobs so progress is not super fast, although it is moving each day.
The game is all 2D and the art can really be split into 3 sections:
1) UI. Menu graphics, login boxes, buttons etc
2) Building and Units. These are very simply animated (only a few frames) and in isometric view
3) Terrain graphics. These are really textures with dusty tracks, broken roads, sandy deserts etc
We have just recruited another artist and have not really assigned tasks or decided the art direction yet. While I am still coding the game, we are also working on our documentation so we can have a clearer idea of the art direction.
Id like to see some things you have done in the past if possible and id be happy to chat to you over msn or somewhere so you can get a better understanding of what we are trying to achieve and what our goals are.
I would be interested in helping you with graphics. Just let me know if you still need me.
Thanks for the reply, ive sent you a PM
Ok, i guess i'll put one selfish bump in here as we are still looking for artists I had a couple of replies, but no replies to PMs. So let me know if anyone is interested. The project has continued to move forward code wise, but the graphics are still sucky
i would like to help creating the menu graphics.
Hi HD2Owner, i dropped you a PM, thanks!

Artist seeks talented game developer, for RTS, TD or other game.

HI, I am new, this is my first real post so if this is posted in the wrong area sorry.
SO, I was working with a zune developer on an RTS and I had a large amount of art done for it. He got overwhelmed with the project and so I am looking for someone who thinks they can tackle an RTS. I have all gesture commands and ui layed out as well as basic unit properties. I have about a dozen fully animated sprite units and about 6 buildings complete so far.
If you think you are upto the challenge OR have a solid game that you would like some killer art done for let me know. BUT, I want to see it is some app store, I dont want to waste my time with a fizzled project.
If you want to use sprites I have already made thats cool, I would only request a cut when the game goes on an app store.
Very nice sprites, and the game looks good so far. Were you able to keep the source or do you plan on starting from scratch?
all info pertaining to the game can be found here.
I think the game is open source as others have dived into it. I know pathing was a difficult problem and did not have much of a solution. the project was for the zuneHD.
I will move this to SW development since this is an ongoing project, once you have a close to finished, or finished product PM me and I will move it back. IE Beta. .
~~Tito~~
Hey I'm a programmer looking for an artist to work with on various projects. I currently focus on Android development however I do have some experience with XNA / C# before (made a little tilemap engine on it and whatnot). I also just got my Samsung Focus registered on my developer account and have compiled a test sample on it just 2 days ago. I am really excited about Windows Phone 7.
I ALSO plan on making a fully crossplatform RTS at some point for iOS / Android / WP7 and I may be able to get started now. However, I would definitely want to sell it and keep it closed source / proprietary. Making an RTS is a HUGE task however, and will need a lot of planning and thinking ahead.
If you're in USA that's an extra bonus. If you have MSN Messenger that's another bonus. PM me if you're interested in working together on various projects.
There's a current "small" and cross-platform 2d game project I'm working on that I don't want to disclose publicly atm and we can discuss that if you have any interest in that, but I guarantee you I would love to make an RTS in the near future but merely lack an artist and an idea .
In my signature you can see all the devices I own for testing on. I am very inclusive, I love all smartphones.
I also do some music, I can show you some samples if you are interested in going further in regards to this.
Raptor550, I've sent you a PM, could you check please?
P.S. Seems like by default the PM notifications are disabled here.

[Work in Progress] dIRCa - WP7 IRC Client

Welcome! I wanted to let the community know about the IRC client I was building but there are some major caveats that may turn you off.
First, you absolutely need a dev unlocked phone. This can't be sold on the Marketplace yet because I'm using Homebrew sockets from this very forum (well the hacking one but you get what I mean). Mango will change this but that's a good 6 months off if we're lucky.
Second, in it's current state it is pretty bare and you may hate me for it. There is currently no tombstone support so you have to connect again any time you move out of the app. This is my highest priority to fix.
The project is hosted on codeplex at http://dirca.codeplex.com/ and will be OSS. If any developers are interested you can either submit patches or I may give commit access depending on your previous work. I'll be honest, I need help in the form of feedback because I do have a direction finally but the IRC client code completely zapped me of all interest. There is more than enough work in just getting a functional UI but to have to work out IRC quirks is completely draining. After working on this, I would *never* recommend anyone work on an IRC client from scratch. You absolutely have to use a library like ircdotnet or smartirc4net to keep your sanity.
There's a SketchFlow project recently committed that outlines where I plan to take this, which is IRC with the look and feel of a Twitter client. The current incarnation feels way too much like mIRC which isn't a problem on it's own but that type of client doesn't translate to the phone well and this proves it.
Thankx my friends, very good project in WP7 !!
any way of connecting to a specific irc server or am I being a bit stupid??
Works, and You are on right path gui-wise so don't worry about that.
GUI is good, i like the way one moves through channels. Some thoughts after some testing:
- Possible bug: didn't connect to server in port 39998 without changing the option of default port to 39998 even when own server had port-option right.
- In auto-feeding of discussion in channels last line (the most recent line) is cut of, i.e the auto-feed is "one line too slow"
You're in very good way with this, I'll be checking in to this as I'm a irc-user and have been without irc in WP7 so far, thanks for the work!
Wishlist (always got to have a wishlist!)
- Option to change text-color & size
- tombstone will be great when it comes

[Q] First Timer - App Advice Needed

PREMISE
see mockup attachment. fyi, some minor details are left out to protect the premise.
the purpose of the app is to create a countdown clock. and we intend to have different sponsors.
FRONT-END REQUIREMENTS
when the clock expires, it will have beep and vibrate.
to make money, when someone brings up the app on their phone, they would see a coupon from a sponsor company. and upon the launch screen, if the person likes the coupon, they can request to have it e-mailed to them. there's two options to have at this point. a) the app sends me (the app business owner) an e-mail confirming that this individual has requested this coupon. and I'll e-mail it to them whenever I get a chance [but this could get messy if there is a ton of users] b) the app somehow automatically send an e-mail right then and there to the individual [this could be a Day 2 project].
regardless of whether or not the visitor has requested the coupon e-mailed to them, when they click the "ENTER APP" button, they should be transferred to the APP SCREEN.
BACK-END REQUIREMENTS
a. we will NOT store any customer data or e-mails or anything else. we will simply generate a one-time e-mail to that address and that's it.
b. we would like to track a) how many downloads so we can tell potential sponsors b) how often people use the app and how long it's open on their phone for.
c. needs to work on android, IOS and windows phones. we do not care about tablets or computers. smart phones users will be 99% of our audience.
d. we need some sort of back-end or web interface where I can enter in new sponsor names, logos and coupons.
QUESTIONS
1. I'm not going to learn to build this myself. i have no knowledge of how to build one and don't have the time to learn. i plan to hire an overseas freelancer through odesk.com. what program should I ask they use to build this? I've heard terms like swift, xcode, ruby on rails, twitter bootstrap, etc… ideally, is there one go-to popular program that creates a cross-platform compatible app? my fear is that if I have to drop a programmer in the middle of the project and pick up another, will the new person be able to pickup where the last guy left off?
2. how would I go about changing the coupons? and changing the sponsor banner ads? would there need to be some sort of web interface? would I need to purchase a website and hosting account and have some functionality built there? is there some dashboard somewhere else?
3. how big scale a project is this? roughly how many hours should this take a COMPETENT app developer? seems to me like one of the most basic apps you could build but what do I know.
4. at what point does an app get submitted to google play? apple store? windows whatever they have? or do I even need those entities or could I just let people somehow download it from a website? if so, what would I be missing out by not getting it listed under those marketplaces?
5. anything else I have not thought about that I should be aware of?
please advise. thanks in advance!!!

Hi i have read your long query,The app which you described and checking out the mockups seems to be pretty less complicated and i will give you some answers for it.
1) The best thing to do is make an app in popular cross platform frameworks better use html5 frameworks such a sencha touch, jquery mobile etc with phonegap. Look for developers in this category.
2)Changing the banner ads and coupons is simple.Just host that in your server, app will load those ads and banners whens it loads for the first time ,we can refresh the content later by periodic service calls
3) its a small scale project .Just building the app alone will take atmost 30 hours including creating for 3 platforms and excluding testing.
4) its always better to upload the apps their respecttive stores.Apple wont allow apps to sideload fro other sources. For getting listed on those stores you need to get developer licenses 100$ for apple store,25$ for google play store etc
5)Just be aware that the app should work on all ost of the devices ,gives timely updates etc
also you can track the number of downloads from the respective stores, also you can include some analaytic sdk like flurry etc to get the details like "how often people use the app and how long it's open on their phone for".
i am an Cross platform app developer. If you are interested we can talk in Pm. hope i helped

Help needed with app development - please!

Hello,
I am trying to get an app made for a product that I am trying to prototype, and am having a seriously hard time with it. I am looking for some help on this as I have been scammed twice by people doing a really convincing job of being a developer that turned out not to be. Luckily it wasn't much money. I would really appreciate some guidance or development help. There's a case of premium beer in it for you. :good:
What I am trying to do:
I need an app that will allow a user on their mobile phone to video call in to the product that I am prototyping. The product will be built-in in the user's home, and have a built-in android tablet running it. The android tablet will be connected to the house wifi and controlling a IOIO board, which then will turn relays on and off as required.
In app features:
2x on/off sliders that will maintain the relay in the position selected
1x momentary push button that will operate a servo motor to 90deg and return to starting position
1x momentary timed push button - when the button is pushed, it turns a motor and counts how many seconds, then saves the number.
1x momentary push button - resets "Saved Value"
1x push button - Saves "Saved Value".
1x scheduled timer - the user would preset at what time and how many times a day a function would occur. This would cause a motor to spin for the amount of seconds predetermined by the "Saved Value".
I would really appreciate the help of a good person/programmer. It doesn't seem overly complicated with what I am trying to do, but getting this done has proven to be a huge challenge for me. Most of the coding can be cut and pasted off of open source stuff, but I have no clue when it comes to programming and am incapable of programming this myself. The app doesn't have to be publicly published and only has to support the 1 mobile app connecting to the product app.
Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.

Approaches to Vet Candidates for Your App Team
Every position requires marginally extraordinary aptitude and experience assessments. Any designer you're thinking about must have coordinate experience building applications. Search for skill in the stages you anticipate supporting. An iOS application requires an engineer with Objective C and Xcode information. An Android application, then again, needs a designer who knows Java and Eclipse or Android Studio.
Finishing up Note
Contracting your own group likewise requires more than simply finding the right individuals . In the event that you adopt this strategy as opposed to contracting a whole group like clever applications itself, you need to handle everything from HR to legitimate issues. What amount of get-away and wiped out leave will you permit? Will colleagues get value? In what capacity will you manage neighborhood and government impose filings? Those things are past the extent of this prompt article. Return for scope of these contemplations.
Step by step instructions to Find the Right People for Your App Development Team
Contracting for an application group isn't too not quite the same as procuring as a rule. Swing first to the general population you know and their systems for experienced contacts and referrals. These associations will permit you to increase more prominent bits of knowledge on an individual's expert identity and unwavering quality past their experience.
