sd card not working on new builds?? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

so i have like a generic (i guess) sdcard
it has no real branding on it other than "micro sd HC 16gb C4"
and recently i flashed PA3.6 and it worked fine i had pics music everything on it
but than i flashed illusion build 6/8 and i got a "preparing sd card" notification normal right til it said "sdcard removed"
and repeated that a few times til i removed the sd card
it seems anything other than PA3.6 (given idk the build date of that honestly)
but anything build after 6/7 is giving me issues
i flash cm10 rc5 nothing
aokp nothing
PA3.6 works fine -_-
but here the part im stuck at ok if my sdcard was was gonna die or something it wouldnt work in PA
but also it works on any 4.1.2 rom i flash
new 4.2.2 i cant get it to mount
ive formated it 4 times on my pc in fat32 i even tryed exfat nothing and if i boot to recovery no matter the rom i flash it will read the sdcard
i flashed all those roms from my 16gb sdcard they flash fine than boot and wont mount ...
its killing me here any ideas??
ive formatted and ran diskchecks scaned it and all nothing seems wrong with the sd card .. i thought maybe the reader so i took my dads 2gb sd card from his phone nope worked on those roms fine
its only those roms and my 16 card.
help please .. i feel im going in circles i even asked some devs and they even seems confused
.. im lost any help would be thanked

Go to sdcard.org and try their sd card formatter. Also try formatting it from the phone itself while on a build that works.

ill try the site but ive done that to and i just learned it seems ALL 4.2.2 roms OTHER THAN PA wont work -_-
this sd card man
the websites formater wont even format it -_-
it says unsupported

Do you mean it won't work in any 4.2.2 roms, or it will?
Only other thing I can think of to try is to partition the card with gparted. Doubt it'd do anything, but you never know.
If I think of anything else to try ill post it, but for now that's all I've got. Sorry.

I agree. They can start acting very strange when they start to go.
Avoid any unbranded or generic ones. I always stick to samsung and kingston personally. Always had great results with both. (Just make sure you're buying from a certified seller. Otherwise no guarantee it won't be a cheap knock off)

i cant even reboot. its stuck in a bootloop, will pull itself out, then go back into it after the setup freezes. ive flashed different kernals, different roms newest wimax and radio updates, ive done everything a noob can do after being here for a few weeks. and no one seems to be helping me and more and more threads are popping up with same issues as me

thats not working perfect, thats called one f'd up phone.
sounds like a bad memory card and you can wipe and format all day long, the card is still bad.
are you using a different card than the one that came with the phone?
if so put the original back
if not, go get a different card.
if the original is bad take it to the sprnt store and see if they can replace it.

[Q] SD card issues

Hi! I have an Evo 4G and have been rooted and running ROM's for a while now with no issues. Im currently using MikG v2.59 and have no issues until now.
My sdcard is not being recognized by my device. ive been on the forums all morning reading about similar issues and some fixes but mine seems particularly unique. I can get into recovery fine and can even see all my folders if i go to flash .zip but as soon as i try to do anything it says error sd card not mounted and then I cant see any folders unless i do a battery pull. tried a co-workers sdcard and it works fine.
Any ideas? If more info is needed let me know and thank you in advance!
Try your card in their phone and work from there. If it works could be your ROM. Try reflashing.

tried that and it didnt work in hers either

Hmm, seems like it's the card. You may want to try using another card if possible..

Is it visible via plugged into PC? Or via card reader? If not you might just half to suck it up and reformat it, no big deal. But hopefully you can back up the contents first.

No I took another sdcard and formatted that one, it was the original sdcard that were in the phone when I bought it. Then it broke when I dropped it, so I changed to another sdcard! Is there any chance to make it readable again?

[Q] need help, cant change roms

Im sorry, i know this topic has come up a thousand timed but i still have found no solid answer. I am on Wicked rom right now. I went into recovery to flash the new rom but team recovery wont show the zip files on my sd card. After trying some other things and different sd cards now i have noticed nothing including root explorer wont see zip files. sometimes it will show pictures or music but not usually. usually the phone wont even see the card at all. iI have heard everything from reformat to the springs that hold the card are worn and need to be bent back to class 10 (which is what I used since i got it) wont work with the s3 to 64 gigs wont work. My phone is starting to act up and I really want to try a new rom ( not that I dont love the Wicked rom) just want to try something else and also hope to get rid of the bugs im starting to get. is there a way to flash a rom without an sd card installed or has anyone figured out the problem yet with the sd card issues? Again, sorry if this has been answered but I've spent hours trying to figure this out. Thanks for any help and I'll be sure to hit "thanks"
it is possible to flash a rom within your internal storage.
Now I have a 32gb sd and it reads fine dont know what class though.
I used cwm and the other recovery from goomanager their good so it might just be you're sd card hardware thingy,
If i were you I would ask to give you another s3 under warrenty because thats not normal bro lol as far as the rom goes... I havent used wicked but im sure it should be able to read you're sd no problem.
And this should of gone to the Q&A section but hey.... you win some.... you lose some......but you live!......you live to fight another day!

SD card problems, card is always corrupt no matter what I do.

I just bought a brand new Samsung class 10 sdcard, and my phone always says it's corrupted. Twrp recognizes it fine, my computer does, but the OS does not. I keep trying to reformat it in settings but nothing changes, as soon as it finishes it says it's corrupted.
Any suggestions?

The card may not be broken, there is a known issue with the way htc devices format large cards.
Small corruptions will eventually lead to problems.
Use SD card formatter from the net, you'll need to do this on your pc. Don't format on your phone as it can cause problems. I had issues with an official, 128GB SanDisk card, since using that it's been fine.
I bought a Samsung Pro Plus UHS-1 32 GB card from Best Buy, don't see how I would've gotten a fake.
This same problem happened with my other sandisk 64gb card, and it was working fine, but I forgot what may have triggered the issue as it's been awhile.

I've tried formatting it with my PC, using the standard formater included with the OS on Windows. Like I said it's brand new. I'm going to go exchange it today but open the box in the store and try a different card just to be sure.
There have been a lot of posts about SD card problems in the LeeDrOiD thread. Try using a different kernel if you're on clumsy. ElementalX seems to work, and Clean Slate definitely does -- I'm using it myself. Also try to format exfat on the phone instead of on your PC.
Most likely it's not the card, as it seems to be an issue for many HTC 10 users.

I just exchanged it for a sandisk card of the same specs, so it's definitely my phone as I am now having the same issue. I tried ElementalX and now I'm on the stock kernel, and no dice.

It has nothing to do with the kernel, it's the way the phone formats it. Use the app ive suggested and you'll be fine.

A hardware fault seems the least likely and most difficult diagnosis. I'd try a few more fixes at least, including dladz's suggestion.
Not an expert by any means -- I'm just summarizing what I saw elsewhere -- but there are a lot of posts about SD card problems and a few suggestions that there's a bug in the stock HTC kernel.

Huh. Well I tried CleanSlate and have the same issue. I'll try formatting it on my PC when I get home from work. This is just really frustrating, as I've never had a problem like this. Hopefully I don't have to exchange my phone.

Personally I would RUU to stock to test, and then install a new custom ROM if that didn't work -- can't think of anything more frustrating than having to exchange the phone! Good luck.
EDIT: Every solution I've come across has to do with the kernel or formatting the card on a PC. Make sure the kernel and the firmware are a good match, too.

Damn, well I guess I'll flash the RUU.
Funny thing is, is that I can use my SD card in twrp. I'll make a custom recovery.img and put that on the root of my sdcard to flash back twrp.

I suspect the software too. This started for me after updating to the latest OTA 1.91.617.1. It(Sandisk 128GB) worked fine prior to that.
I tried formatting on PC using the windows method and also the SDFormatter application with no luck. The card works fine in TWRP but doesnt as soon as I boot the phone(Stock OS). The same card works fine in an old HTC EVO 4G LTE and Galaxy S3.

I might just downgrade later on, this is ridiculous that this can happen. Gotta wait til after work.
When I got my HTC 10 unlocked sd cards worked fine and then I put the Verizon ruu on it a couple days later any SD card I tried showed corrupted but did not in twrp or in my other phone so I restored my phone to stock and they have worked fine since.
I'm having this same problem! My card was working just fine, but after I tried doing an OTA update on my rooted HTC10 every SD card I put in is somehow corrupt, despite working fine on every other device. Is there a fix?
Oh, restoring a backup before the error popped up fixed it.
