What they fail to tell you is thats on good credit not even just decent credit highest down is 329 for phone plus whatever deposit is for line.... lowest is 99 for phone.. trust me unless u got grade a/b credit your spending 200-500 in store before u walk out.
They raised the credit criteria, but dont want u to realize that.

Still, the total price for the device is $579. If they charge a bigger deposit then you either pay less than $20 per month or you pay $20 a month for fewer months. I'm not sure how they do it but either way you're only paying $579 plus applicable taxes in total.

There is always extra monthly fees when you buy phones from tmobile.

I know the total price ia 579 I know that I bought a s4 on post paid I make eip payments, I was just quoting. .. that if its the amount of money that is needed down thats the concern, be aware that at worst its 329 down as the highest amount possible but yea with the 12.50 extra on top of bill theres also a possibility of a down payment needed for the line itself also, so if u ad the line deposit and the phone deposit it easily adds up well past 99$
So I was trying to help the OP know that its very possible without grade a/b credit plan to pay 200-500 for both deposits combined. ... before u even walk away with the phone on a new postpaid line...thus making the whole experience of the advertising 99 down a a complete let down once u actually get there and deal with it

Costco has it for around $150 with a two year extension. They throw in some accessories too
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium

Yes, I think the best price is Costco, for $150, at least for the next couple of days.
However, they have the S3 for $0 (only pay taxes).
Is the S4 worth paying $150 more than the S3? Your opinion?

And the LTE. Better speeds for my tethering use.

and processor and screen and phones shape :good:

something else to consider:
Costco and a few other vendors are the last to support subsidized upgrades on t-mobile. Noone knows how long this will remain true. Which phone would you rather hold on to if you decide to stick with t-mobile, but never again have a low-cost upgrade available?
I've had a tmo family plan for over 10 years (started with omnipoint) and had spaced my upgrades out so every 6 months there was a new phone in the mix. With the rotation, I was comfortable getting last year's hot handset for free instead of plunking for the new models. This year I'm upgrading them all to the latest and greatest as soon as they're qualified.
And to the OP: Costco $150 plus some accessories is the best deal i've been able to fine since the S4 launch. There may be some better deals come Independence Day,

How is Costco a deal? They are charging $149.99 for the phone, but they then charge you $90.00 a month instead of T-Mobile charging you $70.00 a month for the 2 years of the Costco contract.
$20.00 X 24 = $480.00
$480 + $149.99 = $629.99
This is the SAME as buying it from T-Mobile, but you are stuck with a 2 year contract from Costco.
They also through in a cheap case that you can get on Amazon for $4 or $5.00
Am I missing something here? Costco does NOT look like a good deal at all!
If I wasn't clear above, T-Mobile charges $70.00 a month for unlimited everything. Costco charges you $90.00 for the same plan.

Ebay 480. Craigslist 480.

Costco also honors your legacy plans which are no longer offered, which T-mobile will let you keep but still not subsidize your phone. Here's my bill:
$80 - 2000 (we never go over, full unlimited available for $100) minutes and text, family plan, 2 lines
$10 - extra 2 lines @ $5
$80 - 4 unlimited data plans @ $20
$10 - family discounted international rates (not transferable to new plans, only available as a per line add-on)
---
$180 / month + taxes and international calls - corporate discounts
+$600 + taxes - 4 S4s @ $150
New Value Family Plan:
$80 - unlimited family plan, 2 lines
$20 - extra 2 lines @ $10
$80 - 4 unlimited data plans @ $20
$28 - 4 discounted international rates @ $7
---
$208 / month
+ $80 - 4 S4s @ $20
---
$288 / month + taxes and international calls - corporate discounts
+$400 + taxes - 4 S4s down payment @100
I save money because of my options, and break even just on the base.

The ad is a bad deal. There is a link in the article to the T-Mobile website, goto it and just run your courser over payment under the sgs 2 pictureand it shows you the payment requirements.
http://androidcommunity.com/t-mobil...at-black-friday-all-phones-under-49-20111115/
I looked @ this but this only for new customers but did say you can get
an extension upgrade.
The catch with this is that you have to pay $200 down then use the mail in rebate card to get the $150 back. You would also pay 20 payments of $20 & get one of the value plans. Total for this endeavor is $600, $450 after rebate.
I think they are trying to reel in those who have little cash and bad credit.

Since paying full price and doing a value plan is a better deal than taking a phone subsidy overall for the term of the contract, doesn't that mean the extra $150 rebate makes it a far better deal in general?
I am considering this deal.
ahh.. thanks Tankrat for filling in the blanks...

This sale is for (new)customers on Value plan NOT Classic.

It's actually a pretty good deal. T-Mobile recently raised the price of the GS2 to $599 (from $529). You get a $150 rebate, so your net savings is $75 versus buying the phone from last week. If you had no intent of getting it last week, you save the whole $150. It's not a ton of money, but if you are planning on getting the GS2 or any other new phone, it's a good deal.
Target just had a sale. Got mine fore 150 as a upgrade. Not sure if it's still going on or not
I got 2 GSII for 60 bucks each
I picked mine up for 179 and got a touch slide for free, I took the subsidy and went with the classic plan. I plan on waiting a month or two and switching to the value plan or cancel and pay the EFT of 400. So I get both the phones for 579 and I'm on the value plan betted then paying retail for the a phones. I was at two stores and they told me that phones on the value plan don't qualified for any rebates ,full retail.

$229. Student Rate, you have to all and ask for it
That's actually the Value Plan price as far as I can tell. You pay $229 down, $20/month for 20 months to pay off the total $630 retail cost. With the Value Plan, it comes out to about the same monthly price, so it's worth it. However, watch out because you pay tax on the full retail price of $630.

Walnart has the regular 2 year commitment plans and 200$ is really good plus you only pay the tax on the 200 not the 600$ of the phone, really good deal, but I would go with the value plan Imo is good specially since after your done paying your bill goes down $20

I did this at Costco, and after calculating it out, it is cheaper than the Monthly4G + Off Contract price to say nothing about the other plans:
Costco - $389.99 for the phone w/ Value Plan (no monthly installments)
For instance, I'm paying $74.99 for unlimited talk + text + 5gb data + hotspot on a $389.99 + tax phone.
Compare that over 2 years to the equivalent classic plan from Wal Mart ($198.00 + $94.99/mo) and it's a savings of over $200. Or the equivalent off contract + monthly4G plan ($629.99 + $70-$85/mo). Or even the regular value plan from T-Mobile ($229.99 + $20/mo for 20 months + $74.99/mo).

Love how he says "ONLY" $389. Man. What has this world come to? I remember when phones were free, the battery lasted for 5 days, and customer service actually did something when someone said, "hey, there's a problem here".
On another note, how much success have people been having getting the phone through Wal-Mart? Almost glad my order got screwed because now I can get it at Wal-Mart right across from my closest TMO store(who are a bunch of idiots by the way) and save a good amount of money and not have to deal with getting screwed on the rebate! Are people getting the $198 renewing through them? Or is it only for new accounts? Not that the people at Wally World have half a clue what's going on but... just curious. Since I had some hassle and I AM getting my upgrade status restored(supposedly), I wonder if they are going to give me problems since my contract was technically already renewed? Screw it, they're probably clueless anyway lol.

"Only" $389 is no big deal for a smart phone IMO when you consider the cost over the lifetime. Consider I'm getting unlimited talk + text + 5gb data + hotspot for $74.99/month. Then consider that the Monthly4G monthly plan from T-Mobile for all that is $70/month without the hotspot, $85/month with hotspot - and it would only work with a off contract GS3 for $629.99, and I'd say $389 is quite the deal.
Heck, even if in a year I cancelled my contract and paid the $200 ETF, I'd still end up ahead of the Monthly4G plan.
I was set to buy the phone off contract, but the price made too much sense and was too good to let up

Phoenix AZ, and ya I'm going on Monday as well if it's not there I'm just going to T-Mobile and then selling my current G2X for what ever I can to make up for the difference. I was originally going to keep it as a backup. But I still have my MyTouch and G1 I guess, haha.

Was previously with Sprint and was at costco last week and saw they had the 16gb s3. Went there again yesterday and they still had them so I switched. Here is my total cost.
Phone $389
Value plan $64.99 (500 min, text, 5gb data) x 2 years = $1559.76
$389 + $1559.76 = $1948.76
If I had gone with classic
Phone $249
Classic plan $84.99 (500 min, text, 5gb data) x 2 years = $2039.76
$249 + $2039.76 = $2288.76
(classic) $2288.76 - (value) $1948.76 = $340
Going with the value plan I'm saving $340 total after 2 yrs vs classic
So basically I got the phone for $49 ($389-$340 saving going to value plan)
Had I gone with classic then (phone) $249 + $340 (extra I have to pay) = $589
Going classic you save now but after 2 years you end up paying a lot more!
**I didnt factor in taxes since tax varies but you get the point.

I got it too. They are not even advertising it. There were several people in store for a new phone and all of them got GSIII. The CS was surprised and reluctant to sell me a $99 Note II.
That is pretty good. Two days ago i bought a note 2 from loyalty for $200 flat no upgrade fees, shipping fees or tax. UPS is supposed to deliver wednesday. I didn't know about that deal though, that might be a little better than mine... definitely worth it though
anyone know how long the MIR might take?
Check for an affinity group
If you belong to the right affinity group (i.e., public employee, large corporate account, alumni or trade association) you might have a significant discount on top of the current sale price. Note II is available w/new contract or renewal for $49. I'm buying.

I got my Galaxy Note 2 today with the T-Mobile special. This is the math I came up with.
Suggested retail$699.99
Instant discount-$200.00
Mail-in rebate card-$300.00
After Mail-in rebate $199.99
Taxes $52.70
If you canceled early $200.00 (or what you end up paying through the two year contract)
Total of device $452.69
You must go with classic plan $59.99 + $30.00 + Insurance $7.99 = $97.98 (before taxes & fees)
Adding est of tax and fees $5.00
Est Total per month $102.98
Minus $200 within the 24 months to cover what you truly pay for the device (which they don't want you to know) $8.34 per month
What you pay per month for your plan in the end (After taking out the hidden monthly cost for your device) $94.64
Remember that you pay full price for your device one way or another.
Est of what you pay for the device and services within 2 years (after the rebate) $2724.21
$3000.00 for the Galaxy Note 2 is the about what you pay after two years. To think that this is much cheaper than Sprint, AT&T and Verizon. Ouch!!!

btw, you don't really need the insurance.
In any case, I don't get the point of this thread. People need to realize that they're paying for the phone one way or another. I just go on the Value Plan and buy my phones for $700 straight up, that way, I know exactly what I'm paying for (and it's cheaper overall for me at least)
same **** to me today i pay 400 new customer

I have a 5 gig plan...500 minutes cuz I don't make calls and my bill is 92 and change every month. That's including the price of the phone. I paid 250 for the phone, then it's 20 dollars a month for 20 months. That's 400+250=650 for the phone.
You can't really factor the cost of the plan into the cost of the phone. I would be basically paying the same as it is with the phone regardless.
And I could just go to the store and pay the rest if I didn't want to pay tax.
I'm just having a hard time figuring out how you came up with 3000 for the phone...

Getting S4 with the new t mobile plans?

Since t mobile have those new no contract plans and 20$ a month on phones does that mean when I try to get a S4 I won't have to pay a deposit right ? Since u don't have credit yet. How much should it be since its no contract
First they check your credit. If u have good credit your s4 will be 149.00 if not it will be more then 149.00 but your monthly payment will be lower if u pay more with your down payment.

They might charge u a higher price but as the previous poster said, your monthly will go down. You might also get hit with a deposit fee per line but u get that back within 12 months of good standing.

I had to pay $329 down plus a $75 deposit on my line for the $70 unlimited plan. I would have had to pay $12.50 a month for the phone but I just paid off the other $300 when I received the phone.

I can confirm that this is the deal they offer you if you have poor or no credit. I had the exact same thing.
Phone deposit- $329
Line deposit- $75
Monthly phone- $12.50 + voice/sms/data
The remaining amount due on the phone is $300 that you can do monthly for $12.50 or pay off more or less if you wanted. Overall, not too shabby considering the other options out there right now. You could get a Nexus 4 for that price and do a prepaid vs postpaid account but I wasn't a huge fan of the N4.

GS4 @ $99 down + 10% off on bill

Wanted to share this T-Mobile flyer - GS4 @ $99 down + 10% off on bill + no activation fees. You have to call customer service to activate and mention association with Student rate.
thanks! i'll be using that promotion i was just now about to add a line to my account...

What do you mean by "mention association with Student rate"
can you explain it a little more? i got the galaxy s4 a day before the price dropped to 99$ can i still get this discount on my phone? like a 50$ card or something and the 10% off
Wish &^*%(% TMo would make up their mind.
Right after its release they told me that their days of discounting a phone with a contract or extension were gone forever when dealing directly with them, but for now, third party vendors were still being permitted to so. Got mine from Costco because of that.
Is this with contract, or is it the prepaid thing. I have been waiting for the S4 to become $100 with data plan. We use the data and I don't see myself canceling the contract so paying $100 for the phone with data seems like a better deal to me than paying $600 plus data for the phone. Does this also include activation fee and if so, can it be waived? How much is one paying with this deal.

Just picked up a Galaxy S4 yesterday at T-Mobile. $99 down (plus tax on the full retail cost of the phone - $579 at the moment) brought me up to about $146 at the store and a promise of $20/month for 24 months. Is it just me or does it seem a lot more expensive to get a phone through T-Mobile these days?

Per my earlier post - yes. Go to 3rd party vendors. Walmart just advertised $199 with a $50 gift certificate . That would be new line or two year extension - no $20/month BS.

No. You're basically buying the phone outright, but for $99 down with the remaining 480 spread out over 2 years with no interest. If you were to buy the S4 outright at AT&T or Verizon, etc. then you'd have to pony up the total $579 right then and there.
Can't find any info on this, so anyone with personal experience: Can you take this deal if you're on the $30 pre-paid monthly plan? T-Mobile just posted a simaler offer on their Facebook page today....
did this expire?
Still think you are not getting it folks or I am missing something.
Why buy from TMo when you can get a much better deal elsewhere (unless you would not be eligible for the two year extension requirement and you don't want a new line)?
I was eligible but TMo would not deal - they even suggested I go elsewhere for the phone which I did. Then I sold my Note 2 (too big for my pocket - especially on my bike) for over twice what I paid for the S4..

Yeah, but the way the plans were before, you could pay the up front cost of the phone, sign a 2 year contract, and either get the phone without much additional cost with the plans you intended to keep anyway, or pay a $200 ETF which in this case would put you completely out of contract with a Galaxy S4 for $299. With the way things are now, you pony up an extra $280 over the course of two years (or up front, or at any point in between up front and two years) to reach the same state you could have reached for $299 + tax + activation before.

Guys, its basically the same thing. The only difference I see is that before this change happened, if you knew you were going to be in a two years contract and it didn't matter to you, you could buy the phone for $199. Now you just have to buy it full price.

You are basically right as to buying it from TMo. My point is don't - you could get if for $199 with 2 year extension but now this is down to $149 elsewhere.
TMo said they will be reining in the third party sellers soon so they can't do it anymore, so take advantage of it now.
You can find a lot more info on this deal here . Sry I didn't post that link before. this deal is with the no-contract plan (but not prepaid plan) .

I have personally used this deal with the galaxy S4 - I signed up on the phone to confirm with a rep that discount was applied properly. I pay $54.00 for unlimited talk text and 2.5GB of data + $20 of monthly payment for the phone. I have one line on my plan. Hope this helps
T-Mobile paid off my old EIP and put the 99 plus taxes on my bill coming next month. Came out to 151 down on my bill next month. Free Express shipping, and also gave me 10 dollars off a month for 6 months on my bill.
Gotta love T-Mobile. Been with them 7 years.
That was from just talking to the right rep. No specific deal
It's all about talking to the right rep. Last time I called with a billing question, I ended up speaking with someone who didn't really know what was going on instead of trying to make my case I just hung up and called back and spoke with a super helpful rep after.
