Help: Can't Add Yahoo to Stock Email App | Works on Wi-Fi Only - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have been trying to add my Yahoo mail to the stock email app, but have not had anything but problems.
If I am on 4G/3G, once I enter the Yahoo account credentials, I get "Authentication failed". No matter whether I try Manual or Auto setup.
Strangely, the Email app will let me add the Yahoo account on Wi-Fi. It works OK on Wi-Fi, but as soon as I check my email on 3G/4G, it signs me out and asks for the password (which doesn't work).
I have downloaded Yahoo Mail app, but I don't like it. It seems to be a resource hog as there is no way to disable push and enable manual syncing. Regardless, I would like to keep all my email accounts in one place.
If anyone has a solution, I'll be so appreciative.

This is a problem that originates from Ymail side. For some reason, they are definitely doing something weird on their servers, maybe trying to detect your location. Because I have this problem as well after my Ymail account was hacked and more security was added to my account.
Ymail is broken and I don't think Yahoo will fix it in the short term.

i have my yahoo mail woring "somewhat" with the stock mail app. They do appear to be doing something weird as i get "cannot authenticate" errors all the time... it seems to come in waves.... i would say it works but very spotty... good thing its like my 4rth "spam" acccount lol

Yahoo disable the stock email you have to use there own yahoo app it sucks but its the only way so far to get your yahoo mail

To get yahoo to work on stock u have to hit manual setup and then hit imap....and proceed with setup

I am sure this is not it. Already tried.
To Add to this: I think I am seeing error with authentication when I have a Ymail window open on my desktop but the problem persist for a while even after I close it. I can't verify this because this also only happens from time to time but just throwing this out there.

It happens to me also. Out of no where it would tell me authentication failed. But if I delete the account and sign back in the way I said before it works fine

like i said i get waves of cannt authenticate... it works for me ... just spotty.
i woudl say it works mostly ... then there are the periods where it does not...

Can you guys try this manual setup. I seem to have better luck with it.

Better luck means what? I still get authentication errors whether manual or auto populate those parameters.
I serious think the errors are due to logging into Ymail in multiple locations but I don't have access to Yahoo servers to there is no way to verify. I think once your login from a secondary location (desktop) times out then the authentication errors go away.

For me that was the only thing I changed that made the error go away. Just tried it again while on 4g. I'm also logged in to yahoo on my desktop. Anyhow just a suggestion.

I have tried the manual setup to no avail. Only works on Wi-Fi, which is the strangest part.

Yahoo!'s secret change to get their app in use. Happened on my old phone too.

I actually find the yahoo mail app better than the stock email app. In particular the swipe down to refresh mail and the slide to side drawer just like Gmail app. I just wish it didn't have purple in it.
Edit: slide drawer when you tap the top left mail icon. Does not do it when you swipe your finger from the side. Just to clarify.

Me too. There is a blackened/inverted version out there on XDA, but it didn't notify me of email.

Contacts showing up twice...HELP

Well right now I'm running the LSVW WM6 ( 3-25-07 version ). And I had the same issue with XDA Live .20 also. But basically what happens is whenever I go to make a text message and I start to type in the name I want to send it to, the name shows up twice.
My SIM contacts are hidden, they do not show up in the contacts list. And having said that there are only one of each name in the contacts list. So I'm not sure exactly what is causing this.
I've attached a screenshot showing what I'm talking about.
Anyone have a fix for this? I know it's stupid, but it's driving me crazy...

Did you install the .cab on a fresh install or after already having other data settings applied?
MMS works perfect here. I just sent a few..
Try deleteing your sim contacts and then add them back in.

I would try that but there is no 'select all' in the contacts options and I don't feel like adding 200+ numbers individually back to my SIM card...

If you want I can setup an Exchange account for you, so you can sync your hermes to my server, wipe your SIM card, and go from there...?
Mine does this also Cingular 8525, 3-26-07 LVSW, no sim contacts, all sync'd from exchange.

Thanks for the offer, but I ended up figuring out how to do it on the phone. The option to copy contacts back to the SIM card is in SIM Manager now...
So I erased the contacts off the SIM and copied them back and the issue is still there...
Good news though, my MMS's seem to be working now. I upgraded to the LVSW 3-26-07 version and MrDSL's CAB and it works now...who knows what was going on before...
I really don't understand this contact issue though...

Do you by any chance run Windows Live Messenger?
'Cause if you do the contacts in your Exchange Account and the Contacts in your WLM will be synched together and as such the WLM-contacts will be added to your contacts..

I'm also having the same double contact showing up, but in Pocket Informant. but not in Messaging Apps... I've hide the sim contact using hacks.. but not working... must be something wrong with PI on WM6. The problem is, when i scroll down the list, the sim contact make PI popup a message 'Cannot find ink note'.. and that's really annoying... I'm using Black v1.2
EDIT: I just realised that the problem is gone... after 7days i install the Black v1.2... i dunno what have i done, but i'm glad this problem is gone...
EDIT (again): Silly me... i just realize how i 'solve' this issue... Actually the problem didn't just go... the simcard go... well... i've change the simcard to provider for 3G access which i didn't have any contact on it!, that's why no double entry there... sorry...
On the previous sim, even the message in simcard also got shown in the messaging apps... not just contact... and also my outbox message (from simcard) displaying message with no sender...
Sooo...the problem still didn't solved... anybody have a solution?? (I wonder if only some of us get this as there's not many complaining about this issue..)
BE1.2, contacts in sim and contacts, in textmessages --> double entries in "to:" field.. regedits do not help (showsim=0)... i hope that it't gone also in 7 days..doubt it.

Sorry to make you feel this issue has been solve.. actually i have replace a simcard with no contact, and the time of writing, when i try to replicate the issue, it's gone... that what excites me and thought it is solved...
Someone has to know what is causing this...

This was driving me nuts also. This is what I did. I copied all my SIM contacts to my contacts list on my device and then used PPCBckpContacts to backup ALL contacts. I then deleted all my SIM contacts and then the contacts from my device and then restored the backup of my contacts that was taken prior to the backup of ALL contacts that were copied to my device.
I decided to use this as my solution since I was not able to find any other solutions for this issue.
That still didn't work for me...
I used PPCPim Backup and backed up my numbers. Deleted them from the phone and the SIM. Reloaded them from the backup back to my phone then copied them back to my SIM and still have the same issue...

Why don´t you ONLY restore to the device and not your sim? The problem lies with the contacts being in two locations SIM CARD/DEVICE and therefore the dreaded double whammy. I personally have no need to have my contacts on my SIM and the device.

The reason why we want to have contacts in the sim because sometimes, we swtich the sim with another one, usually my data sim didnot has contact on it, but on my normal sim... it would appear twice on the contact list...
Dumb Question
For those with dups, did you check the "merge duplicates with outlook" option? If you didn't, this could be the problem.
it is not duplicate as in 'duplicate'... but my problem is, the contact/message on sim and on phone show up at the same time, hence duplicate... i'e applied the tweak to hide the sim content, but no luck.

AT&T Address Book?

Whenever I tap the contacts button on the bottom of the screen, an AT&T Address Book Screen pops up and says to call 611 to complete the registration. I press OK and it goes to my contacts. I called customer service to see how to disable it and was told to un-check the sync button under settings. Tried with no effect. Not the end of the world but its kind of annoying. Any ideas?
Wish I could help but still waiting on mine. Couple days n if u havnt figured it out Ill take a look. Sounds like sum simple ta do w sync though. Has it registered w att yet? Sometimes the reg gets hung up and may need to be done via sms/text. eb

Do you have an AT&T account setup in Accounts & Sync? if so try removing that.
I have ran into that bug as well. So did my friend. What you need to do is turn off location services and go back to contacts. It should now load up and there should be an option to start sync. I have tried this on two ions and it worked on both. I accidentally figured it out when I was on the phone with a Sony rep trying to solve the issue. Turned of location services cause battery was dying and I was at a mall during this "fix".

It can't be an AT&T account as it occurs right when you start up the phone for the first time and you are not allowed to remove the account unless you reset all settings.
Edit: It might take a few tries cause on my friend's phone it took about 3 tries before it allowed start sync.

Well I never setup a AT&T account on mine. Must have had location services disabled before I opened contacts already. Glad you got a fix though.

It can't be an AT&T account as it occurs right when you start up the phone for the first time and you are not allowed to remove the account unless you reset all settings.

Hmm. Odd. I'll play around with mine and see if I can get it bring that screen up. By chance when you first setup your phone did you use that ready2go process that had you setup stuff from the computer then it synced to your phone?

No I didn't. Just sent bluetooth contacts .vcf from my x10.
I also tried Manage Applications and Cleared Data for the AT&T Address Book but still get this message.

That was the same error I received. Another method you can try which I'm not sure if it will work is turning off location services using the slides not the settings menu, then calling someone and then pressing home and going to contacts. That's how mine was fixed. For my friend, all I did was go into contacts, get out of contacts turn off location service, then go back to contacts. AT&T reps can't not help you with this nor the Sony reps. Sony reps will guide you to unsyncing your phone while AT&T will probably do the same or ask you to contact Sony. If my method doesn't work for you, try messing around with the sync, internet(both wifi and LTE), location services, and the contact app and maybe completely reset the phone then mess around with it again.
You don't have the at&t address book app installed do you (don't remember if that was a stock app or not)

Should be able to go to the app settings icon (not the addressbook settings, hit settings from the home screen or app drawer), then scroll to accounts and sync, then delete the AT&T Addressbook from the list of synced accounts!
Still waiting on mine to ship!

At&t address book is not listed under sync. I found it in the market but it says that my device is not compatible. Can anyone else confirm this? App shows up under manage applications>all

If its installed on the phone uninstall it. Shows its compatible with the ion for me but I don't have it installed and can't remember if it was installed when I got the ion and removed it.

I can't uninstall the app without titanium backup. Your phone should have it too. Check under applications>all. Could you try to install the app from the market and see if the same thing happens?

Ah okay its a service and not an app. I do have it on mine under manage applications all. the Google Play version does not function on the phone (says not supported once you download and run it)
Hmmm....trying to think what could be causing this. I might just reset my phone this weekend and try it again to see if I can get the issue so we can get to the bottom of this. I know when I fired up my ion for the first time I cancelled any default setup and manually setup my google account then removed all the stock bloatware apps I could.

[Q] Yahoo Mail "Can't Login"

Hello,
I setup Yahoo Mail on the default mail app.
Every other day, I get "Couldn't Sign In" alert. After a few hours, it kind of resolved itself.
Anyone experiencing the same issue?
I'm also having the same connection issue on my Macbook Pro's mail app, as well.

You are talking about two mail apps right ? both having connection issues. could be you network was not usable for some reason.
I use Touchdown for Exchange for a business exchange account, K9 Mail for a number of pop mail accounts and Gmail for Gmail accounts without any real issues at all. WiFi, 3G, LTE ... it all works just fine. too fine in some cases..
I had another thread about yahoo mail not able to sync "log in". It seem to be a problem on mobile network. It works fine on Wifi. There is no solution yet I suppose.

I had this problem on and off for a few weeks and then it stopped. Coincided with an upgrade in my towers. Hopefully that's your problem too! I will admit it's been popping up here and there lately as well.
It's happening on both cell and wifi.
My Gmail works perfectly fine. So, I don't think it's a network issue.
I abandoned the default mail app, and downloaded and used Yahoo's very own mail app (ugly). No problem with login at all.
I suspect Yahoo is purposefully denying login for users using the default mail app, and have everyone use their own mail app. So that they can push advertisements.
What do y'all think of my conspiracy theory?

That would be me and I have the same exact problem - 9 out of 10 times on T-Mobile not logging in. WiFi works just fine.
I did all the research I could, but the problem still persists. I am in the process of moving everything to Gmail right now. I can't even get yahoo help desk to help.

Has to be T-Mobile network problem - AT&T never had a problem on both S3 and S4 I had.
Can you guys try this. It worked for me just now. Coincidence maybe but I kept getting the error a few seconds ago til I changed it.
Update: stopped working again. :banghead:

How I fixed my battery drain

So like many of us here experiencing there battery draining overnight,on WiFi,or whatever your specific case.Most of us chalking it up to the newest update.I was draining bad overnight no matter what I tried.I've been using textra for my messaging app and google voice for voicemail.I wanted to try the ATT visual voicemail.Since I haven't used ATTS voicemail since probably my s3,I had a hard time accessing my mailbox.In further searching I found this.There is an ATT app called ATT messages witch I've never installed it has an option to back up SMS,MMS,call logs and so on to ATT'S cloud.I'm not 100 percent sure but on the note4,or possibly from the update,even if you don't have the ATT MESSAGING APP installed and you go to your stock messaging app/settings you will see the option for ATT cloud backup or something along those lines,if you click on it you will see it says your messages are being backed up even if you haven't synced it to your phone there are still backing up,maybe I opted in somehow but I would have never knowingly done that.Now if you go to your ATT account and check your plans and services for your device and you see ATT messages backup and sync in your services its backing all your MMS, SMS,call logs,etc...you can remove the option and it says it will remove anything on the cloud,but if you go back and check after removal it comes back.The only way to stop this is to go to application manager/all and find the messaging backup and sync app and disable it first before removing it from your account.Unless you want ATT to store all your messages on there cloud leave it.Visual voicemail won't work if you have that ATT message app either.just an (FYI).
So what I've done is,
1.go to my files SD card deleted android 2.took out SD card
3.went to settings/backup reset and unchecked back up my data and automatic restore
4.from there do factory reset.
5.after boot up go directly into recovery mode wipe cache, then factory reset again from there.
6.after it boots power down insert external SD card boot back up.
7.go threw set up uncheck all google options for now,can reselect later if needed.
8.once at home screen go to play store/settings select do not automaticaly update.
9.go to application manager find that message back up and sync app and disable it.
10.check your ATT account make sure you don't see it in your device services,if you do remove it.
11.disable all the bloat before updating in play store.

In WiFi settings,I only allow WiFi on when sleeping when plugged in,my home WiFi modem is bad I think though,and I've unchecked smart WiFi and almost every option in there.
I stopped using Google voice and using visual voicemail had to get the correct voicemail number from ATT but its working,everything else is still on even facebook, s health with pedometer paused,no cleaning apps just been closing apps threw menu same with ram.so far so good.
Here's my battery over past two days,not a lot of screen time,family time.I'll Do a SOT test soon,

For me, disabling Smart Network Switch function helped the most. I'm sure most this is what is causing the problem for most people as well.

Yes,for people that are having issues with WiFi becoming unstable due to there modem/WiFi router.I had same issue disabling smart network did nothing for me,what I'm getting at is check and see if your stock messaging app is backing up to the cloud,even know it mat not be synced.when I dug deeper I found that messaging backup and sync app was constantly running in the background.This may have been something they implemented on the update I'm not positive,but I don't remember ever seeing that running.On say the s5 that option isn't there UNLESS you download the ATT MESSAGES APP,the note4 has the backup and sync option in the firmware now.All I know is my battery is better then it was ever right now.
If that is not greyed out,your messages are being backed up to ATT cloud,may not be syncing to your phone.the only way to stop this is what I've explained.

just wondering. is textra compatible with this att cloud msg backup? I only ask because all the other features are greyed out for you as well, display, quick responses, text message settings, multimedia messages, etc..
they are not greyed out for me, however I am using the stock msg app. also, when I tap on "att messages backup and sync" it prompts me to set it up "turn it on" or "not now" I selected "not now" so assuming that its not enabled, but just wanted to double check as it seems like yours might have been enabled somehow (maybe the sales rep did it when you purchased your phone?)
I logged onto my att account on the web, checked my services, and couldn't find anything related to "message cloud backup" or anything worded similarly. how exactly did you get to where you seen this in your account?
I clicked on "wireless" tab at the top, then "view my plan and features"
then selected my device
then in the next window scrolled to the bottom and clicked the "view all features" link which popped up this window..
is this where you seen this on your account?
Textra is compatible,even using textra if I open my stock messaging all my messages are there,everything is greyed out using textra yes except a few options that one was not greyed out that's how I was able to click on it.your in the correct spot on your ATT account just have to click on manage for the phone in question,at first glance myn read my plan,insurance and something else,once I clicked on manage that's where message backup and sync was,first I removed it,it kept coming back until I disabled it in my app manager.Maybe at some point I had the app on my phone but I don't think so.Go to application manager /running apps see if you see the Messages backup and sync running,if go to all apps see if you see it.Are you using stock messaging app?
I would change my message app to stock default and screen shot it greyed out now,but I don't wanna go threw disabling it again if for some reason it enables.Before I went back to textra I made sure it was greyed out with stock MMS as default also.
Look I just checked and its back,but its disabled on my phone I keep removing it but keeps coming back.
Either way I don't want ATT storing my messages on there cloud,and I would have never knew unless I dug into this.
There's a site you can go to and read your messages,but if your not seeing any traces of this,I suggest not signing into it and checking,it may enable it.
Here's where I ended up,I used to get 6 hours SOT but with about 12 overall hours,I'm at 5h 30m SOT,could stretch to 6h with 6 percent left but this was over 1day and 17hours.

still having battery issues, trying to figure them out. some reason now my text msg app takes like 30 seconds to start up (when closed, not just minimized) not sure why.. only has 2 text messages in it, did a hard reset, still the same.. guess im going to start unblocking stuff and see if that helps..

Did you check in your running apps,myn was never syncing either,it was running and backing up to the cloud,syncing on this app means its syncs from the cloud to your phone,if by chance that app is running that means its backing up to the cloud regardless if you selected sync.I just checked my account again after yesterday when I saw it there and I removed it,now its gone thank god.So i the whole point of the app is,if backup and sync is running and all your messages are being stored on the cloud,plus there on your phone,you delete messages on your phone but there still on the cloud,if you sync it,it will DL all your messages back to your phone,or you could go to the message site and see them,but the only way to delete the permenatly would be from the cloud site,I think.maybe I'm wrong but that's how I understood it.go to settings/application manager/running apps,and see if messages backup and sync is running,and check all apps in there too I'm curious if the app is even on your phone.

I do not see the feature in my att app or online. It's greyed out in my text msg settings, and if I press the option.. it asks me to set it up or cancel. Same if I click att address book in accounts it prompts me to do the same. Set it up or cancel.
And I don't see it running in processes..
Something else has to be going on.. I am about ready to reflash n1e firmware and block the updater and just call it a day.

Can you check in the app manager /all it would be underneath the messages app here
And looks like this from my disabled apps,just curious if the app even lives on your phone.

Ok so you already had it disabled,so it is there.

Gmail blank screen with exchange active sync

Is anyone experiencing the same issue as me where you receive a gmail notification but on pressing it you only get a blank Gmail screen. Each time you reopen Gmail the same happens. The only way I seem to get Gmail to work again is if I restart my phone or if I connect and disconnect from wifi. I've tried to remove the account and reinstate it to no avail.

Same Issue!
I thought I would bump this thread as I too have the same issue and can't seem to find a resolution.
4 x exchange accounts, notifications working normally. When I launch gmail app I just get a blank screen. switch off wifi or reboot and gmail works normally for a while.
any ideas? It's quite frustrating!
Well, same here... I think it's something related to network...
This happened to me when I first got my Pixel but I don't remember how I resolved it. I think I said screw this and used Nine for my exchange accounts.
This just happened to me after using my Pixel XL for about two months without any issues. What I did was i went into the Play Store, brought up the list of my installed apps, clicked on Gmail, and then ran it from there and all my emails came back. I had a similar issue with my old android phone and did this to get the app working again. This really freaked me out a bit. I really hate it when these stupid things happen.
Happens to me everyday. I think it only happens when I get a notification and I click the email from the notification. It's like the phone hasn't downloaded all the emails and is trying to refresh it.
Worst part is that with my old phones you could force close things like Gmail. Can't do that on the pixel devices.

It happened again today, so i removed one of my exchange accounts. I think five accounts is probably max before it freezes like this. I now have 1xgmail, 1xpop3, 1xhotmail, and 2xexchange. Had 3xexchange but since doing that this issue has popped up. Maybe it is time to start trying out other mail apps.

After 2 months, still same issue... I usually turn off/on WiFi to fix this.
I've given up with Gmail app. Outlook app is far superior. I tried for the first time in months the other day and the same thing happened with the blank screen.

So outlook app works with it only... This is weird, because I have Gmail app on other phone, same as Android 7, same email accounts, and the Gmail app is working very well.
I think it might be to do with having exchangr activesync accounts

I also select Exchange ActiveSync on the other phone in Gmail, everything works. I suppose it was something related to OS framework...
Gmail app on my pixel ( Nougat-7.1.2 May) can't handle 3 exchange accounts. I had to configure them like this to work - 1x Google account + 2x outlook exchange + 1 hotmail IMAP
This happens to me with the widgets every now and again. I have 2 screens dedicated to gmail accounts and sometimes one will just be blank. I'm fairly sure it's just a bug because there's nothing that I've done on each occasion to cause it.
