[Q] Help unrooting phone - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I bought a phone on eBay to use on the Ting (Sprint) network. It is a used Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.0.4 which I thought was strange as I know the S3 has been updated past this. So I started looking around and I found a program called SuperUser which has root options, then I found a file called TeamEpic-Root-from-Recovery-v5(1).zip in the root of the phone. There is a firmware update available but when I try to apply it a screen comes up which says installation aborted (I can get more info if needed on this).
I have been using Android phones for years and never been interested in rooting. I'm worried that I will not be able to activate this phone on July 8 when I can get out of my Verizon contract. And I'm concerned that I won't be able to update it past 4.0.4.
Could anyone advise how I can get this back to stock? Thanks in advance.

Can't apply OTA update if it has custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM. Has to have stock Samsung recovery. You can try this post-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099. Follow instructions very carefully. This should do the trick to get you back unrooted, with stock recovery, and updated firmware to MD4.

Look in the Android Development section and there is a ROM Restore so you can restore to unrooted stock

Thank You!!

Starting with your link and checking some basic firmware flashing instructions I was able to get it back to stock. The counter is reset and it says it is genuine samsung After doing this it then updated to JB. Happy now, thanks so much for the help.

Rooting AT&T GS4

I have searched countless threads for assistance. I have been able to root every phone I've had. I am finally having an issue with my GS4 from AT&T. I bought it back in May, but had to go out of the country for work before I could root it and I just got back this last week. It had received the updates from the server so it is now running the I337UCUAMF3 build. I ran Motochopper, but it said failed and no SU. I have tried utilizing Odin to revert back to the original firmware so that I can try running Motochopper, but when I try it shows fail when in the middle of running the program. I tried factory reset from within android and the stock recovery, but it just reverts back to the latest firmware. I tried going through Kies, but it won't do a recovery and says that it is only through the phone server. I have downloaded 10's of gigs of firmwares, motochoppers, loki flashes, etc.... I am officially lost and would love any assistance someone could offer, cause I would really like to get a better ROM installed like on my other phones.
Thank you
Read the gs4 forum. The info is there. You cant revert back to a later firmware. You can't use Loki or motochopper. All you can do now is root mf3 firmware and that process just became available a few days ago. Stop what your doing and read read and read.

You are on MF3 build which means this is only root method that will work, but be careful what you do after rooting, currently there is no custom recovery available for the MF3 build due to locked bootloader and loki being patched and there is not any Odin images to restore stock firmware if need be yet. Once you upgrade to MF3 from MDL, there is no way to go back either.
Hope this helps!
Thank you so much for your help!! Much appreciation to all the techs out there for making all these sweet ROMs and roots!

If I update it again will it get locked again?
Rooting is not really an option as it is for my daughters use

If you update i believe it will no longer be unlocked to use on T-Mobile. However you do need to use the AT&T ROMs for it to work on your phone.
so is it best to root the phone and update it that way.

You can try updating the phone using the phone's OTA updater. It may not work if you have root.
I don't recommend updating all the way to 4.3 as it will load a 4.3 bootloader which cannot be downgraded and Knox.

[HELP] Note 4 N910P looking for 6.0 firmware incl recommendations to download

Good day all. I have rooted my Sprint Note 4 N910P (just to remove the bloatware) and did not get the 6.0 update. The error message from my phone's system update states to "...use Samsung Smart Switch to update using my computer".
However, I find that Kies is the most preferred method, if not all (aside from Odin), used to update to 6.0 via computer.
Could I get some feedback on which method is best and where would I get the 6.0 firmware as I have found a few but don't know how reliable these are in trying to avoid any problems.
Much thanks in advance.:good:
Smart Switch has replaced KIES as far as Samsung is concerned. It is a Samsung preferred way to update a phone, but I don't know if it will like a modified device. I think it has an emergency recovery mode that will do it.

I'm gonna keep this brief as I'm assuming since you have a rooted device that you somewhat know the basics of what your doing.
I personally would start fresh.
First completely back up your phone.
Second Then download Odin and the current stock Rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/general/stock-tar-odin-flashable-t3250864 (If you want Stock Rom)
Or you can use this to download Rom from Samsung http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647
Third Flash Rom and root and debloat by which ever way you did before. (Assuming Titanium Backup)
I am by no way an expert and there might be a better way but I like having clean installs. Just make sure to research anything you don't know or are unfamiliar with.
Here's super su thread I use for Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133
Always give thanks to Devs and threads.
As I stated this are just brief outline of steps I would take. Hope it helps. Good day sir!
Root, Twrp, flash ApocalypseX_MM 8.1.0 and Kernel Flashpoint 4.3 beta.
So far no problem and running smooth with best battery life

Just made a jump from note 2 to note 4 - Need suggestions

Hello community,
I got a Note 4 N910V and the jump was something incredible. I am in love with the thing.
My note 2 was rooted and had the Resurrection Remix rom. I felt free to customize it since I didn't have to worry about the bootloader or anything but it was really sluggish.
My note 4 came with 5.0.1(stock rom) and skiming through the forums I'm seeing things like 'safely upgrade to MM'. Makes me thing the OTA update ain't working right for everyone.
I'm not getting any OTA updates, could be because I'm not in the US and my phone is unlocked for a local telco.
I have a couple of questions
- Is the MM update fine? Battery, performance, root? how would I update if I'm not getting any OTA updates?
- I know about kingroot but is it recommended as the root option for my OS version. I found this but It's been a long time since I rooted a phone.
- Any popular ROM/Mods? RR was a big thing in the note 2 community (also a couple of custom kernels).
Pics of what I got down below.
Thank you for your time.
I'm using this phone on Bell Mobility in Canada and was unable to get the OTA. I have no intention of rooting this phone yet.
I was able to get the stock 6.0.1 OTA file from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2942937
I was able to update using the stock recovery without issue....

Hey man thank you for your answer!
Did you have any problems with the unlocked properties (telco wise, no bootloader) when flashing these things?
I also checked my download mode and doesn't say anything about developer. Seems fine showing up Odin mode so I'm going to assume this is a retail version.

The only way to get an ota is to be on Verizon. Other wise you'll need to download the update and flash with Odin or flash with stock recovery.
The reason for the "safe update to mm" threads are for people who rooted and unlocked the boot loader. You'll need to follow one of those threads if you want root. Nothing wrong with just updating to mm other than you'll have to downgrade to 5.1.1 if you later decide you want root and unlocked boot loader
These phones become really unstable if you just try to root and you lose root once you restart the phone.

Stuck on 5.0.1...how do I "flash"??

My ATT locked, unrooted Note 4 (N910A) is stuck on Android 5.0.1 (....CU2COC6).
All attempts to update thru ATT's update function fail.
My suspicion is that I ran out of memory when it was time to do the next update after 5.0.1 and I have now missed several -- so many, in fact, that I can no longer even upgrade to the oldest version necessary to upgrade to 6.0.1.
I now have plenty of memory.
I went to the ATT store and they said I needed to go to Best Buy to have someone "flash" the update. I went to Best Buy and it seems that the Samsung reps are similar to magic unicorns -- they might very well exist but nobody knows when you might be able to catch one in the wild.
Is there any way I can take care of this myself without having to root the phone or do a factory reset? Any tutorial on "flashing" with a link to version 6.0.1?
TIA!
