Default video player question - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I was wondering if there was a way to change the default video player that is on the Kindle fire. The one that plays YouTube videos for example. It may be built into the rom, or I may have just not been able to find it. I am rooted so I can access all of the system stuff. Thanks for any help

Go into the Video Player you use and tap “Clear Defaults". Make sure you have another Video player other than the stock one. And you can't change the YouTube Player, it is only made tho run on only the stock You tube player.

1) Go to Playon http://www.playon.tv/playon
- Install the playon service on your PC
2) Configure : In the PlayOn config, you can enter your Hulu Login Info. This is helpful as it can pull from your Queue
3) Get the PlayOn App from Android Market. This is not currently avaialble in Amazon Market, so you need to port it over (plenty of instructions on the boards for this)
4) As long as you are on the same WiFi network as your PC, you will be able to stream any of the PlayOn channels including HULU
Ive got HULU up and running perfect on my Kindle Fire. I thought I would share how I did it. First off you need root, and custom recovery. Then you need to use this rom here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439916 which is a custom rom Based on the stock 6.2.2 release. Other than the rom being awesome it also poses as a Samsung Galaxy Tab that allows for a lot of apps that use to show as incompatible are now available. Some work, some dont. But one that does is Flash Video Browser, which is only .99 cents. I had already paid for this and was using it on my Evo 3D, and my Evo View, but it wasnt compatible with my Fire until now. I was able to install, and it works perfect. So I know this is a lot to do just to get Hulu on the Fire, but I was using this Rom for other reasons and this was just an added benefit!! Hope this helps someone.

[Q] Trick Google Play Store for installing more apps?

I cannot find the original thread that explained how it was possible to trick the Google Play store into thinking my Kindle Fire device was some other tablet. I am rooted and have the Google Play Store on my device, but unfortunately I still have to do a lot of backing up apps and sideloading from my Razr M rendering the root and Play Store access on my Fire nearly useless. Just wanna be able to trick Google Play into thinking its some other device that will alow me to install more apps. I'm fairly noobish so i'll need somewhat detailed instructions.

It has to due with tweaking the build.prop.......I know twa_priv's cm10/sgt7 ROM thread has a link to a flashable modified build.prop that disguises it as a Galaxy Nexus.......wonder if it works with other ROMs?

Oh you know what, thats where I saw it. I haven't installed his ROM. I wonder if it's possible for use without the custom ROM.

I'm not that knowledgeable to answer that but here is another link that might help if you ever go to a cm7 or cm9 Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27784658

Make apps think I'm not using a kindle fire

I have a rooted kindle fire running cm10. Is there any way I can play fun run multiplayer race without it giving me a incompatibility message when I start the app?

This is the link to twa_priv's ROM CM10/SGT7 which contains a link below all the ROM releases that will modify your build.prop to disguise the Kindle as a Galaxy Nexus....it might help

There is also a certain build.prop that makes apps think you're on a certain LG phone, which is better for games because you get the right screen resolution

Amazon instant video custom rom?

Ok so I know that as of right now it won't play due to the Hd codec not working yet on the custom roms. what I'm wondering though is how do we even install the app on powerpoints or hashcodes roms, is this possible yet. The app force closes when I try to run it.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire2 using Tapatalk HD
you can still access the website through the default browser. when the hd codec gets working the videos will play. as an aside this is also how you could run amazon instant video on a phone running android

Instant Video

Can any of you more tech savvy devs pull the instant video app from fire phone so we can try and get it working on other android devices?
The one for Google TV just crashes.
Thanks in advance!

@LockeCPM4 - Here you go. I only pulled the APK file, not sure if it needs any other supporting files but hope this helps.
Thanks so much. Unfortunately it wouldn't install on my Note 3 or LG G3.
In the meantime Amazon finally has instant video for android but I much prefer the interface in the fire phone and iPad to what they officially have for Android.
