HTC Evo 4g rom help - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I currently have mikg rom installed on my evo but my battery life is still horrible,, does anyone know any roms that use less juice on the battery.. thats all im really concerned about? thanks

I always liked the TN Shooter ROM. Sense 3.0, working 4G, life is good. I cannot say anything about battery life though, because I use two extended batteries, but from what I can tell battery life isn't too bad. Link --

How old is your battery? When i first rooted my EVO, it could sleep overnight and lose 2%, and after a year, it wouldn't stay on 100% for more than 30 seconds. I could literally sit and watch the battery drain at this point. Age I'd a big factor in determining the battery life.
Another big factor is whether or not you are using an HTC battery, or if you purchased a 3rd party battery. Just keep those things in mind.

First things first. This belongs in Q/A . That being said. Did you do a Clean Install of the Rom ? Did you restore any Data ? What Kernel are you using ? Also this has been mentioned, but I will reiterate. If your Battery is old, or if you are using a knock off Battery it affects the Battery life.

After a long period of battery use,it will degrade as time goes on and you will lose battery cells and the battery gets weaker and wont keep a full charge, the best practice is to charge your phone fully, then let it discharge until it shuts itself off, then recharge again and do the same thing, then recharge and the battery will stay charged a little longer,is what this supposidly does is try building the cells back, but its only temporary, especially when you have an worn battery, the best roms to use for battery life, from my experience is aamikam and Tommys roms, alot of time it will also have to do with the kernel, especially if its an OC'ed kernel, look for an SBC(superior battery charge) kernel.

ok well idk what kernal it is because i cant figure out how to add one yet,, but maybe it was the batterys i bought this extended battery off ebay which had a high mah rating i thought it would last longer but it didnt wasnt a oem battery i didnt know there was a difference so i went ahead and bought a factory battery today .. thanks

Try discharging the battery than give it a full charge. If that doesn't help, try a Rom called SOS X/N.

BTW not sure if you have one or ever heard of anker batteries but anyways they sell a charger with the battery. My original EVO battery started to die very fast. I bought an anker and it seems whenever I charge the phone via USB charger vs the anker battery charger the battery will die much faster. You should try buying the anker battery charger & use the charger to charge your battery, do not use the USB cord to charge it & see if that helps any

Sieidio Battery 1750mAh Extended Battery Review

I purchased the Sieidio Battery 1750mAh on Amazon about a month ago. This battery is not worth the money at all. If you want an extra battery then I suggest buying an OEM battery.
I might be wrong but I think this battery actually goes down faster than the one that came with the phone. My biggest problem with this battery is that it does not fit properly in the phone. It can just be set down or place in my pocket and that is enough to make the phone.
DON'T wast you money on this battery

I don't even understand your review, but I guess I do understand you are being negative.
But this battery works way better than the stock battery that came with my EVO. It ****s on the stock battery. Diarrhea.
Maybe it's just because I bought it for $50 from Best Buy. What a bargain!

Sounds like too much for a 1750 battery. I'd rather just go all out and get the 3500

I got two 1800mAh batteries for about $30, and experienced the same thing. After awhile though, I realized that you have to do a few things to get better battery life.
1) Charge the battery to full while the phone is on.
2) Unplug and plug back in to verify that the phone is fully charged (green led)
3) Turn the phone off
4) Unplug, plug in, and wait for a green led
5) Repeat that 5-10 times
6) Then while still plugged in, reboot into Recovery and wipe the battery stats via the advanced menu.
7) Reboot, and use your phone as you normally would.
This may sound like alot, but it really only take about 5 mins. Even after wipe, it will still take about 5 full discharges to reap the better battery life. Hope this helps!
I think its just luck of the draw on aftermarket batteries (the cheap ones at least)
I have heard good and bad on ALL of them.
I got the Chichitec/htcexpress 1800 batteries with charger. Came in the other day and I couldn't be happier. 14 hours on initial charge, that's unheard of for me. On my stock battery I had to keep the phone plugged in most of the day at work just to still have juice by the time I got home. And supposedly these things start acting even better after a few charge cycles.
(Fits with stock battery door too)
But for every person that has a good experience with any of these companies, there's someone else with a horror story.

Could have told you that before you bought it, ratings by aftermarket reputable companies are close and never accurate...if they rate it at 1750, it's probably 1500-1650... The stock is 1500 so yes you wasted your money. Now on the other hand, the 3500 is the best investment anyone could ever make....
It's been proven long ago seidio over rates their batteries. The "1750" is actually just under 1500, so less capacity then the stock battery.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
just terribad in my opinion, gonna stick to my seidio 3500. rather have the size and life than a small size and a measly bump from the 1750mah battery
They rated it less than a 1500 stock battery.
Key with extended batteries is that you actually have to charge them longer than your phone indicates.
Example: I phone said it was fully charged at 3:26am in the morning. Yet it continue to charge until at least 6:45am before it was constant. Granted I am using an SBC kernel but even without, you need to let it charge the night. Don't let the green light fool you. It takes a few extra hours to charge even if the led light is green!
You should just about fully drain your battery and then let it charge overnight. If you aren't on an SBC kernel you may actually want to charge your phone while it's off so that the battery dictates the charge.
You should also wipe your battery stats once the phone is fully charged.
Try that and see if it works for you. I know that I was getting great battery life even on the stock battery. I play "Word With friends" (at least 15 matches running) a lot (at least 15 matches running concurrently) and this game actually drains battery. I still got through the day fine though I also carry a Touch Pro 2 and having the batteries that are the same size allows me to swap when needed.
I have the 2650mah one from sprint and my 3500mah seidio coming in the mail tomorrow. I'll probably write a review for it later. Note, On my 2650mah, it's already on its 12th hour and I was was playing WWF, surfing the web, made several calls and it's still at 77%. I will leave it off the charger tonight and see how it fairs tomorrow.
Good Luck!
I have tested these and if they do last longer then stock, it is only like maybe 20 mins. I have an external charger as well as running the SBC kernel to get a complete charge. I have the sprint 2600 battery as well and love it. Not many cases for it but I have modified a sedio rugged and ballistic to work with it. I let my wife use it for a few days in her evo and had to fight to get it back from her.

[Q] Buy a new battery for a used Droid Inc?

Got a Droid Inc off craigslist for my buddy, who threw CM7 on it. He's getting really poor battery life out of it -- less than day with what he and I would define as pretty light usage. So we're trying to determine if he should buy a new battery for it, or if this is just how things are with the Droid Inc. He's coming from an AT&T Nexus One that also ran CM7. Obviously the Droid Inc uses a bit more juice and packs a bit smaller battery, but this discrepancy seems pretty high.
His phone is the SLCD version, so it really can't be more than a year old, can it? Do you guys have any recommendations on how to diagnose the health of the battery itself so we can figure out if it's even worth replacing?
Our comedy option is replacing it with the Seidio 1750 mAh battery, but reviews seem really mixed on Amazon. Widespread reports of the phone heating up and a really wimpy warranty from Seidio. Anyone have any feedback on this?
Thanks much.
If he is willing, he should try Miui. You get great battery life and smooth performance from it (been testing it all week, so I know).
If not try out some different Kernels, see if that helps. I would recommend some, but I am not familiar with CM7, so I wouldn't know what works best with it.
Hope I helped,
From my expierience MIUI is comparable to CM7.
Make sure he isn't overclocking, and definately use chad's incredikernel. The one provided with CM7 does tend to suck more power. Also options to flash lower voltages with chad's incredikernel.
If you are planning to get a new battery, go with an official HTC battery. There is one designed for the HTC EVO that is 1500MAH or go with a 1900mAh battery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134076)
Both of the above will fit in the stock casing, though some say the 1900mAh is a little snug but still completely snaps on in the back. I personally have the 1900mAh and I think it's a great buy and would suggest you pick it up if you're looking for more battery life without compromising your phones size.
Possible the guy bump-charged that battery to death or did other things that made that battery hard to keep a charge.
Another thing to note is that once you install a new ROM or Kernel, you should *always* wait 2-3 days for your phone to fully calibrate the battery. Often times it doesn't full charge after you first flash a ROM because your phone thinks the battery is smaller than what it is, so it'll discharge quickly. You can speed up this process by fully discharging all the way down to 0% then charging it all the way back up. Don't do this often as it's potentially damaging to the long-term life of the battery.

OR you could do one of the following:
"Remember when trying new kernels for best results.. Charge until green, then boot into recovery, then advanced and wipe battery stats, then power off and let charge until green and good to go. This gets the results without waiting 3 or 4 days of charging. Also you wont see the unplug and go from 100% to 83% in 15 minutes."
"Actually, to recalibrate, this is what I'd recommend.
Charge the phone to 100%
Turn it off. The LED will turn red again, wait for it to turn back to green.
Boot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
Reboot, then unplug."
That was the advice I was given for my thread. I haven't tried them yet myself, but they sound like good things to do.
Now that I've learned a thing our two about Lithium Ion batteries, I'm going back to the stock 1300mAh battery for a minute....at least until I can find a 1500 mah Evo
Battery to put in!

Thanks for the detailed response, POQbum. I think this gives us a good place to start out; that's pretty awesome that you can shove a 1900 mAh Evo battery in there.
Can you only boot into recovery mode if rooted?

Yes, if you're wanting to do something like wipe the battery stats. I could be wrong but I don't think there's a way to do that without being rooted.

HTC Desire CDMA w/ 3500 mAh Extended Battery...

Hello folks..
I have a HTC Desire CDMA and I bought a Extended battery (3500 mAh to be exact) and this battery lasts just about as long as my normal battery does. It is thick enough to be 3 of my regular batteries, and it is alot heavier, so i know it wasnt a scam, plus there was good reviews... but, The only difference that I get with this extended battery, is that it stays at 100% for about 3 hours, and then starts booming down the charts on battery level.. I mean, i normally have about 25% at the end of the day with this extended battery, but i figure that it should atleast last 2 days on a full charge.... with it being 3500 mAh.. I mean, wow... Can someone help me? Im using a trusted stable battery saving kernel and rom.. so I know that's not the problem..
bump.........?

Do you have a custom rom? Try to download SpareParts from the market and unplug the charger when it says "charged". For my Samsung i5500 and a cyanogen rom the phone says "charged" a lot of time before the real charge...i think that the batterystats file isn't calibrated on your new battery, and so it says charged before...if you have a custom rom i think it's useful (if not necessary) to do a battery ricalibration (i.e charge the phone until the 100% then wipe the battery stats via recovery and then let the phone discharge until the 0%)
I don't know if this will help you, i hope!
I think
When i go back home tomorrow and pick up my extended battery, i will try this. thanks.
edit: yes i have a custom rom. it's oxygen.

Just got my Anker 1800 mAh batteries. Now what?

I've read a few mixed opinions on draining the battery fully to ensure maximum charge potential or whatever. Can someone tell me what to do now that I have the dang things?
Also, I bought two, so if anyone wants to buy one send me a PM.
uhh full drain on a li-ion is BAD! just charge em and use em ..
I've read to get the best long term life out of your battery to try and keep it between 50% and 90%. No need to ever fully discharge or charge.

I have been running mine for about 4 months now and its great. I can actually get a full day of heavy usage without it being dead before I get home.
My stock battery usually die in middle of the day if I use it frequently with wifi on all the time
Have been wanting to buy a new one. Any suggestion?
I bought two also, and they came with a cool external charger [for the batteries only]
I recommend keeping the 2nd battery, and always have one charged and ready to go. Great for long trips, as the gps seems to be a huge battery pig.
I'm very pleased with these batteries.

I've seen good things about one on Amazon. Which ROM are you using? Also, which kernel?

My guess is a battery issue...not a bad battery tho.
Why not get gsam and post some screenshots after a good long drain?
Your setup, usage and apps have surely changed over time. Something is likely draining your battery.
Read the first 3 posts in the battery thread in my signature.... Its for the N5...but most info is universal.

Ok. I've seen some good things about Anker batteries (like this one:http://www.amazon.com/Replacement-T...H-I515/dp/B0078WL4YO/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top)
With a new battery, do a full charge, full discharge (until phone dies and will not turn back on), and another full charge.
+1 for the anker 2200mah replacement. It's cheaper than the oem battery. It lacks nfc though. And as for the whole "battery memory" thing, don't worry about it. Just pop the new battery in and use it however. I just bought the anker to replace the original battery in my wife's s2, her battery life has doubled.
I just bought the Anker 2200 mAh battery and its great. My phone does last a little longer on standby, but my screen-on time hasn't increased by very much (I typically get about 3-4 hrs screen time).
I'm running CarbonROM + Wildkernel and other various tweaks for battery life. My phone spends most of its time in deep sleep.
When you open your battery stats, what things are taking the most out of your battery? I've found the app Wakelock Detector to help a lot in tracking down battery drains.
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector&hl=en
GSAM gives a much easier to understand picture of battery usage. If you're rooted, get Gsam root companion as well to see held awake stats. ?
