Wow....overkill. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Anyone else not a fan of how Samsung is on overdrive with the different models, colors and variants of our S4 so quickly after the initial release? It's a little insulting. I know it happened with the S3, to an extent, but over a much longer timeframe... You buy the phone when it is released only to find out that now, less than 3 months after its release, there are multiple models and even talk of an advanced 4G LTE model with updated snapdragon 800 inside. I understand that it's essentially impossible to have the newest, bleeding-edge cell phone, but to release an "updated model" less than a few months after the initial release is a huge slap in the face.

The new colors and the active weren't a big shocker to me since I'd rather have a good screen and specs than a bit more durable device. The mega wasn't much to me either but the S4 Advanced is.. Even though tmobile barely just got lte now it wouldn't have too much function besides the new process but still.. Id like to have some safety in buying something new and not having buyers remorse for not waiting for the next best thing so soon.

I want a device that gives me a sense of security of having the top support. For Samsung to immediately dump us like this could be their weakest point. I just bought it a week ago and to hear something new may be coming just pisses me off. No wonder I was considering apple

*shudder* no, my friend, you still chose wisely. The S4 is an amazing phone, and I love it. I'm mostly just making a comment on how I don't like the direction Samsung is going... They're getting very greedy and flooding the market with S4 labeled everything....it's a sure-fire way to turn people off to the brand. And if this advanced version comes to light and is released shortly, then this will be my last Samsung branded phone. I bought an S4 because I thought it would be Samsung's flagship top-tier smartphone, but apparently it is already obsolete after two months. This would be welcome if a competitor released a phone that wiped the floor with the S4, but to have the same manufacturer do it....that's simply a greedy, consumer-alienating move.

It almost feels like they're punishing the early adopters.
"See all the cool **** we could've put in your phone but chose not to?"

im really pissed about the s4 advanced. its a huge screw you to those of us who bought the phone in may. its only been what, a month and a half? Not to mention that us 16 gig users got especially boned. Isnt this rapid release cycle one of the contributing factors of htc's slow suicide? this may very well be the last samsung phone i buy. ive been eyeing the sony experia line for a while. Time to do some research

I might go with the iPhone

Really? Am I missing something? It's just a S4 with LTE Advanced which no carrier to date in the US has announced plans of rolling out yet. We are arguably leading the LTE rollout and our two largest carriers aren't even done with it yet, much less the #3 and #4 carriers. T-Mobile is the one that's best poised to go to LTE Advanced but I'd say they have enough on their hands finishing their LTE rollout.
Samsung has recently showed that with the S3, they are supporting their older platforms with the leaked (and should be soon to be official) release of 4.2.2.
Other than that, how does the S4 Advanced make the regular S4 obsolete in any way? Exactly how much faster is browsing going to be at anything over 10, 15, 20 mbps? I'd bet most of you guys aren't getting that on your home broadband connections.
As for the S4 Active and the different colors, well, there were a lot of rumors of the S4 active before it was released and really, the new colors should have been expected by early adopters.
I'm not saying what Samsung is doing is perfect but, let's be honest here, the release of the S4 Advanced changes nothing about the S4 being the fastest phone you can buy today. What else did they change that you guys feel so left out about? They changed the modem and it supports a technology that to my knowledge there are 11 cell sites somewhere in Russia use as an experiment. Haha, I'm sorry but I just don't get the concern.

you obviously havent heard about the snapdragon 800 being put in it, which makes our phone seem dated by years. there have already been reviews on the processor. And there saying that unlike phones that have been released in the last year-year in a half, you can see a big improvement in real world performance and smoothness.
Most of us are pissed off because if they would of said something about putting the snapdragon 800 in it in about a month, most if not all of us would of waited.

exasperating
I can't keep up with samsung too, when s3 came out I just bought my s2 couple of months ago which is really irritating, I have yet to enjoy the features of this awesome smart phone and next thing I knew my friends are buying s3 like it's going out of style..

The issue isn't a slight increase in browsing speed. Or even that the new snapdragon is a faster processor (although that's upsetting) . It's the principle of it. You don't release a product and then release an updated version of the same product barely two months later. It doesn't speak well of the company's loyalty to their consumers. Do you think anyone is going to rush out and buy any future phones from Samsung? No, because they've proven that within a month or so they will push out another "updated" version of the same phone. This wasn't meant to start an argument between the readers of these forums, it was simply my opinion of what I consider poor business practices of Samsung.

Do you really think it will be a big difference for real-world performance? So far the biggest factor in performance for the s4 seems to be software optimization.
Anyhow, I hear what you're saying. But, no matter what phone you buy these days, there is always a better one around the corner.

I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment.
People, we can spend our lives and money chasing the "next big shiny thing" if that's your deal...but let's be honest with ourselves - even with the S4 Advanced being a slightly more powerful model of our current GS4, the gap won't be enough to justify shelling out another 600+ bucks to buy the latest new phone IMO.
We can hate on Samsung all we want, but one thing I respect about the company is their willingness to continuously innovate - kinda like Google.
So long as the GS4 remains well supported (and T-Mobile finally releases the bloody update) - I've got no complaints. My GS4 is the tits, and I doubt I'll need a new phone for quite some time (want is another story entirely).

Say, what update referring to? Do you mean the US equivalent of the update they recently received in Europe? If so, yeah I want to check that out.
When I was on Sprint, we had a leak-God named Sextape. Sextape would very generously provide Odin files of new leaks, sometimes months before actual release. So far I haven't seen a Dev like that on the T-Mobile side of things.
But I'm still hoping to "meet"such a Dev.

You guys should already know this is going to happen. When you buy a new phone, there's always going to be a new one coming out. With the person saying they bought an s2 then s3 came out in few months. You should already know it was coming out, it happens every year. You don't buy a new phone after months of being released then complain about it when a new one came out

Yes, I'm referring to the International G4 update. There's a T-Mobile leak available, but from what I understand it's buggy.
I was on ET4G as well, and Sextape is awesome.

This argument seems moot. Do you even think T-Mobile would pick up the S4 Advance? I very highly doubt it. If what you really wanted was the "best", why not shell out the money for the international version with octa-core back in May? Because of the lack of LTE is my guess, but T-Mobile's LTE coverage is so sparse it seems pointless.
This variant will remain well supported into the future - as far as smartphone lifespans go. This is not the HTC One story. HTC kept releasing variants because there were crappy flaws and they couldn't get it right.
We all seem to be pretty well plugged into the rumor mill, so news and, based on history, the expectation of color variants should've been no surprise. And the Active has been known for quite some time. We are a "Want it now!" group which is why we couldn't even wait a month for the initial price drop.
If you really need the Snapdragon 800, you can still commanda premium for this phone on ebay to pay your way. But, I would think the development is going to be very sparse compared to this one - FAR fewer people will have that phone. Hell, right now we can run any rom from any carrier, plus the international 9505.

Would you rather not have the option? "Big improvement in real world performance and smoothness" - I just can't see how a 1.9Ghz quad core processor in a phone is holding you back.

Nothing has been released. There isn't even any talk about this phone being released in the US or even when it could be released. Exactly and korea is getting this first the u.s. will not see this until next year at the earliest. There are no advanced lte networks in place yet but guess who will be in the best shape for it....Tmobile because they have the newest lte equipment out there that there are using now across the country. So I am not mad at them it would have been a different story if it was coming now but it's still awhile before we see it. I am more pissed off about the lack of internal space and not being moving apps to sd card. Hope we get the same update to fix this soon like the intetnational model. That's my only beef right now.

I dont think the op is out to chase the next best thing but rather, the business aspect of samsung.
But hey, Lt advance, and w.e spec is being added to the phone doesn't really bother me if i dont have it. My phone is blazing fast. With AOSP/AOKP it runs faster than my finger can catch up because of the specs it currently have. Infamous manage to squeeze 5+ hours of battery life out of it and evil managed to make it as smooth as silk.
So I am not complaining , if i say I will be chasing the next best thing with my money as someone of you clearly have that mindset going on in here, I will be more broke than my two years old baby cousin. If not broke, will just walk around with that green envious eyes and no one got time for that, clearly im too lazy for that. It is differenty if you got the s2 than the s3 came out (the obvious difference in the phone is MINDBLOWING)
But from the s4 lt..to s4 lt advance, water proof s4, to w.e else s4 is out there...I'm good. I can still sleep at night knowing my phone is better than 7/8 of my whole block if it is about being satisfy with the next being thing.

Exynos 1.2 4210 vs Exynos 1.5 4212?

So Samsung has announced a new processor in their Exynos line. Seems as though they are releasing this new processor by the end of this year. Here's the link. http://phandroid.com/2011/09/29/samsung-introduces-new-1-5ghz-exynos-4212-dual-core-processor/
The question is, will this be the processor which is will be in the Nexus Prime in relation to an OMAP processor and how powerful is this SOB gonna be given the 1.2 model in the E4GT is an absolute monster as it is? Second, how overclocked do you think this new processor is or will it have unlocked overclocking potential. This has been one of the most difficult decisions of my life because I am in absolute love with my E4GT but I've decided to return it and give it a month for the dust to settle. There is a heated spec war just over the horizon.
Nice find.
But what does this and all the other threads about "future phones" have to do with the E4GT? I know its comparing processors but there is an overall general forum for general talk like that.
SO sick of hearing about new stuff thats not even gonna be out for like half a year or later. I just want to enjoy the nice phone I just got. All this speculation and OOH and AHHs are just preventing people from wanting to get this phone and wait til the next big thing and makes us take a hit on development.
If you keep waiting til the next big thing you might as well wait forever because you can only have the baddest phone on the block for 4 months tops anyway and something better will be out.
Sorry for the rant.
Yea I didn't have this phone a week yet and Im already starting to feel obsolete reading about this lol

Good thing you ask, seems as though Samsung and Google announced the date they will be announcing the Nexus Prime today. That will be on October the 11th. Won't be long, less then 2 weeks from now before we can put all these rumors to rest. Don't get me wrong, trust me, I'm a more hardcore E4GT lover than you can imagine. Here's the link to the upcoming announcement within 2 weeks http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/0...-expected-on-on-october-11th-droid-prime-too/
It's basically a EG4T with NFC, possibly LTE with Sprints upcoming network expansion, a 720 p qHD specialty screen with about a third more pixels per square inch and the new model processor. Oh, and possibly at 4.65 inches. These are the rumors circulating and the more I watch the more evidence that's popping up about the screen and the processor. Samsung just happens to announce a their new 1.5 ghz Exynos processor 2 weeks before the Primes announcement? All this with rumors suggesting the OMAP processors have been behind in production?

If the Nexus line holds true to its trends, it will probably be a Verizon phone for some months before they release it to other carriers like they have done with T-mobile in the past. I would like to get my hands on a nexus phone for development sakes only. They always have a ton of support and constant updates. But whos to say that phone wont have a fluke bug in it either. every phone that comes out seems to have some bugs that can get ironed out and some that cant.
So far I have experienced zero major bugs with my device and has been the best release of a phone that I have gotten my hands on ever, and ive owned 5 in the last 2 years. I even switched from T-mobile to Sprint for coverage reasons in my area and dont see myself paying $$$ for Verizon and its LTE when it will never be in my area or get the 4G signal indoors. Especially if sprint is announcing the switch over to LTE. Boohoo if my phone wont be compatible, I will have a new upgrade by the time i see any of that in my area.

Here is my unrequest opinion.
It is a hardware race. Will the screen, processor, and battery life be better in the prime/galaxy s2 HD? Yes.
Will some of us go speed a large amount of money as a result? Yes, and I am not excluding myself.
But again, it is just a hardware race. Is there anything out there now, or in a year that will even challenge our phones? No, not a chance. This phone is truly a 2 year phone. I am sure of that.
Do we need a HD screen? No...the screen on this phone is awesome. Actually the hd screen on the prime and galaxy hd will have a pentil matrix...making the pixel density closer to that of our phones then one might think.
Overall...the new exynos will be better. But who the hell is going to notice. I am willing to bet, that besides benchmarks, our phone will do everything just as smooth as the new exynos. Honestly...the samsung created hardware in our phone is that good.
Hopefully, I am right...and not incorrect like I as with the evo3d. I thought the evo3d would be as smooth as any phone...but this phone just made me eat my words. I love it
I'm going to have to fight the urge to get the prime! Going from evo3d to photon to epic is less then two months is just too much already. I think I have a phone problem

Just an FYI, this SOC won't be in a Sprint phone till late spring, early summer of next year, so the only 1.5GHz phones we(Sprint) will see are going to be based on the Qualcomm chip for now, which I expect at least 1 or 2 to phones by Christmas(mostly HTC tho)

Take a look through this forum. I think VZ would have to iron out all these issues before putting it up for sale. I doubt VZ is going to have thier tech support saying " oh you can just download this app to fix that issue". It's going to have to work 99%, or people will just bring it back in and swap phones. There really isn't anything so magnetic about this phone that will make a regular user say they can't part with it. Imagine 50,000 used phones, cases, screen protectors, cradles etc. I can understand a few issues with a new device, but it looks like there are quite a few.
So I guess we will just wait for the 9th and see.
this is what i know verizon has a **** load of iphone and razrs! wouldn't you try and get the most out of your inventory? i wouldn't want to price cut just to sell if i didn't have to, or at least prolong a long as possible
Verizon sucks. that's why I left them after 10+ years. They are like the Apple of cell carriers. Need to control every aspect.
So now they aren't releasing the Gnex cause their 4G LTE is crapping the bed... Seems their LTE service has all kinds of issues with each new phone that is released to it.

Have you used a droid bionic? The phone is total garbage, riddled with bugs, and had plenty of Verizon and Motorola "testing time."

Well I will agree on one thing. Their cell reception is the best.
But I can't deal with their arrogance, and pricing. At the time the OG Droid launched (I got mine on first day), they said they were changing their style... going to be more open with regard to their phones. After the OG Droid was a huge success for both Verizon and Android, they pretty much went back to their old ways.
Now they are releasing their 2nd pure google phone. And they are dragging their feet with the release. Probably making google changed certain aspects of it, making it more closed then the GSM version.

I'll agree that the pricing is outrageous, but until someone with an equal or better network (see: competition) comes along, Verizon will be the status quo as far as high quality networks are concerned.
I don't think the latest delay has anything to do with the Nexus as much as it has to do with the overall network from a QoS standpoint. As a network technician myself, I can tell you that the issues being described with LTE SIM Card Authentication warrant a "freeze" until the problem is rectified. Why introduce a large amount of new devices onto the network without resolving the problem first?
Was just in a Verizon store buying a case for my GSM nexus. Guy said they had the phones in store but got an email a couple hours ago that it was no longer being released on Friday. Didn't have any details but seems like the article posted was true.

Funny I went looking for release dates. Mondays and Thursdays seem pretty common for Verizon. Also funny is the original 11/21 release date (I'm sure it was even earlier then that).
You know I've been on both sides. Push the release date until it's ready and people complain. Release the phone before its ready and people complain. Coming from a LG G2x, I can honestly say releasing the phone before it was ready was good for me but not for the population as a whole. The negative feedback it received as a "faulty device" forever scarred its name.

Do you seriously think Verizon will iron out anything?
Have you used a droid bionic? The phone is total garbage, riddled with bugs, and had plenty of Verizon and Motorola "testing time."
They will release it eventually and it will be full of plenty of bugs they missed. Who knows what the hell they're doing.

Motorola isn't exactly known for making phones that aren't riddled with bugs.....
This sounds more like something with Verizon's LTE network and not something to do specifically with the phones themselves.

Sigh... its pointless waiting for this phone.

Talk Me Into the S3

Here is the situation:
I am a 23 year old CIS Grad who loves technology, computers, and my phone.
Current Phone - iPhone 4 (Needed trusty OS and previously had a Fascinate, Droid, iPhone 3G)
Carrier - Verizon
Upgrade Available? - Yes
Reasons I am on iOS
I steered clear of Android over the last few years because they release so many phones that I always feel that I will get the short end of the stick, see a newer, better phone, and want to kill myself.
Android Updates are just inconsistent (unless you have a Nexus, which is already outdated).
Reasons I Shouldn't Be on iOS
I love customizing my phone
I love rooting my phone
I love experimenting with the OS
So, should I get the Samsung Galaxy S III?
Wait for a newer, better phone this holiday season?
Other phones I am interested in -
HTC 8X
I'd wait for note 2 or next nexus. The next nexus is gonna be announced at tje end of this month

I would get the S3 over the new nexus any day. Only for one reason though LG is making it and I will never own something from LG again. I have had bad luck with LG everything and I mean everything I have ever bought that was LG was complete **** IMO. Even with it beaning a new nexus I feel the S3 still is far more superior. Good luck on your choice.

I find it funny that one of your reasons for avoiding Android has been because of the wide variety of choices, fearing that as soon as you purchase a phone it'll already be outdated.....
So to remedy this you went ahead and chose a proprietary phone that was outdated 6 months before it was even available to purchase!
ICS is good on the S3. With the right custom TW ROM, you get good speed, a smooth UI, good battery life, and that it's easier to use than GB (my wife has the Conquer 4G).
I've used the JB leak though, and can confirm its faster, easier to use, provides better battery life, and seems to have enabled better data speeds (although, this could just be a placebo) than my current favorite TW ICS ROM. I believe KLP will see even more improvements, and that's due out towards the end of the month (rumor has it).
As far as phone hardware goes. This is technology. Of course it will be outshine shortly after release! The market is competitive, and that means the consumer wins. You can't go wrong in getting the SGS3 right now. Likewise, if you wanted to wait, nobody would blame you for holding out for the Note 2, or a new Nexus device, or HTC's answer to the SGS3, or the SGS4.....I could keep going because there'll always be something around the corner.
So break out of the pen, sell your wool, leave the apple where it fell and get yourself a phone that you've researched and are confident meets your needs - then come back here to XDA, do more research (use search please), and make your device unique, one-of-a-kind, and expect the best from your device.
Cause that's what XDA's all about...enabling probability in the natural pursuit of demanding excellence from the things we enjoy.

I'd wait for the fall/winter offerings
I have only owned 4 smartphones so my opinion may not be on great use. However I thoroughly enjoy the S3 and have to say it is my favorite phone..plus I haven't even rooted it yet. My first smartphone was an iPhone 3g so of course I loved it, but when I got my Inspire I never looked back. I rooted my Inspire and flashed the hell out of it. Every other week it felt like I had a new phone with new tips and tricks to learn. I never felt like my phone was outdated although it was.
After I was eligible to upgrade I picked up an Evo 4G Lte which I ended up returning. The only things I miss are the build quality and audio quality. I'm not saying the S3 doesn't have good sound because it does, and it is much louder than the Evo was. The build quality is fine as well, but I liked the kickstand and "metal" body. Regardless of those two factors I still love my S3. I have yet to root it and feel that if I do I will love it that much more. I also feel that with the internals, screen, and software this phone is packing, it is a definite winner. ICS/JB are both very good operating systems and feel much more fluid and closer to the level of "quality" someone who buys an iPhone might expect. The community here is also great which is another reason that I'm sticking with the droid.

Honestly, that's one of the things I like about android phones. With so many OEMs competing, you get slightly better phones every few months or so. Better processor, better screen, better camera, NFC, new design etc. So you get gradual progress over the year. With iPhone (at least starting with the 4s) you get slight progress once a year.
To paraphrase NWA, the SGS3's the motherf*cker that's built to last.
Don't buy lg

S3 is a great phone no doubt. But it should be easy to pick between it and the Note 2 because they are in different catagories. Do you want a phone that also doubles as a small tablet or just a phone? IMO the Note 2 is too big for someone that wants just a phone but I realize that is not always the case.
Other thing to consider is the sooner you upgrade the sooner you can upgrade next time. Also, the S3 is going to be cheaper on the upgrade since it has dropped in price while the Note 2 or any of the new phones are gonna cost more.
Not trying to sway either way just giving some things to consider.
New dock, and the headphone jack is on the bott..........oh damn never mind. In all seriousness I would just wait, you hit the nail on the head about all the different android phones that come out after the release of the newest thing. You will never have the latest android phone on contract unless you have money to burn.
The S3 is a fantastic phone and will hold me over for the time being and plus I bought the plan from bestbuy that gives me the most bang for my buck if I want to get something else before my two years is up. I would not recommend buying any lg phone even if it is a nexus device.
Do you plan on staying with Verizon and what type of plan do you have with them? Hell if you could spare the cash, find an s3 for sale locally and save that upgrade.

I have to stick with Verizon. My plan is through a company. I don't believe the Note 2 will ever come to Verizon.
I am not as petrified of LG as most of you, but I'm also not content with it either.
To those of you basically saying I am an Apple fanboy or iOS junkie, thats just simply false. I only bought the iPhone 4 because of how frustrated I was at Samsung with its Fascinate support and the speed at which Android released new firmwares that were incompatibile with almost every phone except the Nexus.
I cannot stand iOS, I just didn't feel like shelling out $600+ while under contract for a phone that saw less support (albeit with more features than the iPhone).
I am worried about spending my contract on the GS3 because Key Lime Pie is due out soon, and technically the S3 doesn't even have Jelly Bean yet.
I know a KLP rom will be out but I would prefer a KLP based rom.
If you're a tech enthusiast, I don't think you need us to talk you into it. Look at the stats, make up your own mind. Think for yourself.
Obviously you come into this forum you're going to get skewed results. Go into an iPhone forum and tell them you're thinking of switching to Android and see what their consensus is.
That being said, I have had zero problems with my SIII and I don't think I'll have any regrets about buying it until I'm eligible for a new phone.
The advancements that have been made in Android the past 1.5-2 years are incredible to say the least.

[Q]Will you switch from GS3 to GS4?

I'm just curious who will be switching from from the GS3, to the GS4? I just can't see where the minor improvements= spending more money. Besides I hear the GS3 will receive alot of the same software features that the GS4 will have.

The main thing they upgraded it camera Imo. But it's just as ****ty. Going from 8 megapixels to 13, that's idiotic.. Megapixels are just image size. Not quality what so ever. Ya to the average eye it looks good, but it's trash. In 5 years the stupid company's will be going around with 25 megapixel cameras built in.
Image quality is from the size of the camera lense and the physical quality and type of the lense. Taking a turd and making it billboard sized is still a turd.
Sorry about my stupid raging lol. Just stupid they are changing some software and increasing mega pixel size and some small hardware change and calling it a new phone.
Oh and if anyone wants an example of what I'm talking about, go take a picture of something that isn't up close (maybe something across the room), then go into gallery and look at the image. Fully zoomed out it looks darn near perfect, but go to its real size and it's garbage
Im most likely getting the Note3 or most likely the Note4. in the next year in a half
how is quad core and twice the camera a small upgrade... god people these days are so not happy with progress... altho the international version is way better as alwayss supposed to have a 8 core?
i remember when i had 222mhz computer 1 core that and not even a gig hd was 10 lbs toolol :good:
not to mention every galaxy and the g1 and mytouch im going to keep upgrading with them just cuz i couldnt stand it when i had the s2 and the s3 just looked way nicer
im just pissed theres still hardware buttons they need to ditch that **** and give us the option of the international set up but with lte theres no reason why we cant have that other than ****ing carriers here.and "hardware compat" which is bs said that bout the s3 also
I keep telling myself I dont need the S4....but i'm sure I will cave sooner than later. As long as the S3 isn't neglected like some of sprints devices tend to be at times to influence early upgrades, S3 may be just fine with me.
The main thing that ticks me off is when Samsung releases the next big thing RIGHT after the next big thing...if that makes any sense. I know they need to keep their profits up and stay competitive with apple, but they literally JUST released the galaxy S3 and Note 2. It just really ticks me off knowing that someone out there is going to get 3-4 times the performance and double the screen definition and vibrance for virtually the same price I paid for my galaxy s3.
Sprint needs to apply T Mobiles idea to their service. If someone wants to upgrade early just add 20-30 dollars onto their monthly bill until the device is paid off. Expensive? for some, but not that bad for a brand new galaxy S4.
I wouldn't even be thinking about the S4 if Samsung would of blessed the U.S. with the 1.4ghz quad core.....but they didn't. So basically i paid the same price as the international version for my U.S. version Galaxy S3 that has two less processors in it.
Ok, i'll stop complaining now. I love my S3, I just think these two year contracts can be easily replaced with something better. Sprint would more than likely gain more customers and customers would be able to upgrade at any time for 20 dollars a month. T Mobile is going to gain some stock over this, I really like their new direction.
If T-Mobile had decent service around Omaha, I probably would consider switching....but Sprint and Verizon run the show around here, T Mobile is not very settled in around here.
No need to switch for minor upgrades.. we getting all the same bells and whistles via software.. switching would make about as much sense as having a peeing section in the pool.
However, Maybe when GS5 Comes out.. or the Note 4 (the 10" version at the rate they are going) then it might be worth a swap.

The reason I consider it a small upgrade is that I've researched it some and all 4 cores would never be in use at the same time only 2 would, and as ReapersDeath said, other than that the only "major" change is the camera which i dont personally see as a huge step up or as justifying me having to pay for a new phone
And the reason it wont have 8 cores is because Exynos and LTE arent compatible...so if you're thinking of getting the international version just cuz it has more cores, then be prepared to miss out on LTE
This is what i've read anyway, there are some more detailed discussions going on over there if you wanna check it out
I will wait, to me it's not "the next big thing", it's just not worth shelling out more $. I'll wait and see what the note3 or s5 has to offer.

Not sure what the site was as I read it on pulse but the chip set does work with lte. It won't make it to the states due to supply and demand.
I really see no point in upgrading. They will have everything out for the s3 and once the s3 is no longer supported their will still be roms. Only way I will upgrade before the note 3 or s5 is if I have to replace my phone and they are out of the s3.

Poll: Reason we as people buy a new phone and whats the motive/selling point

Wanted to start a unusual Poll thread about
Why we buy the latest and greatest phones and whats the motive or reasoning behind it?
Not just about the galaxys or s4..even any device...
Whats become the selling point for you as a "INDIVIDUAL" in your case for instance?
Like many of us phone junkies admit we have had to have it the day it drops.. whats the biggest reason and is it a sickness.
Do our old phones really not do what a phones meant to do at the end of a day? just because a new one has taken its place?
Maybe its cause of the new look
Maybe it's due to the rumored batt life
Maybe its a new design
And maybe its just a habit
For me its about the always improving batt life of upcoming devices. ..
Old phones were plagued with batt life issues i believe now we are overcoming that.
Also for me and the s4 it wasnt the cam that sold me I felt the ir blaster was a very unique feature.
What's your reason?

It's almost like a compulsion. I rarely impulse buy and I can take weeks to finally decide on my purchases. I read reviews, speculations, I memorize the specs of all my choices and compare them. The compulsion part comes in because once I get the idea in my head that I really want something I will find a way to get it; I'll make myself believe I need it... I actually almost hate when it comes time to buy a new toy because I put so much time into the pre-purchase. On the other hand, it's also a type of rush. As far as selling points go, it's usually something small and trivial that makes me decide which way to go. Buying my 1st droid I was torn between an LG Nitro and the GS2. I had my mind made up that I wanted the S2 and while in-store I played with both of them. I liked the LG's screen a little bit better and that was the one I bought. The whole reason I got the S4 is because around January I had decided I was going to buy the S3. I had already worked out a deal with a friend to buy his and everything; then I realized the S4's release was very near. In fact, the purchase of this device was the easiest one I've made in quite some time because I had already done the legwork and research on the S3, The hardest part was waiting for release... then deciding which carrier's version to buy, whether to switch carriers or buy outright, etc etc.
Its better to be addicted to new technology then crack. Haha really though it's a hobby for me. Something I enjoy. One can have the fastest and newest features. Plus I like to learn about new technology and development.

My current phone, a Galaxy S 1, has super slow NAND, and that affects performance quite alot with newer apps being larger than they were 3 years ago.
I use my phone more than any other device I own. I haven't played my PS3 in months and I barely use my tablet. I chose to buy this device because I wanted to get rid of my Galaxy Nexus before it became obsolete. I work and purchasing something like this does not have an effect on my finances because I can afford my gadgets. I know some people just have to have the latest even if it they have to change their lifestyle in order to do so.
I love customizing my phone, but now that I have this device I don't feel the need to. I wish I had bought the Nexus 4 instead. They have a very active community that is all about helping each other out and they are very loyal to their brand. Seems like most of the people who I have seen in the T-Mobile section are teenagers.

I'm buying a new phone when my old one breaks or becomes too old/slow/buggy for my needs. And I always buy the top of the line models just because I think they'll serve me longer. For example I don't really need a quad core cpu now, but in 2 years from now it might become a minimum requirement to run Google Maps.

Feel just like you man. I have had almost 40 different phones in the past few years. Any high end phone I have probably bought....drives the wife crazy. Funny thing is that I'm not an impulse shopper with anything else but phones. I can walk to the AT&T store right now and chances are I'm walking out with something new.....so I try to avoid them lol

I bought it for the prompt and timely updates from Samsung and T-Mobile.
I'm still in therapy trying to figure out what the cause of this 'have to buy new device sickness' is. I'll post back in a couple of years when I get off the couch
But seriously, I enjoy having a newer version of my current device because it's something new, even if the changes are subtle. But I've always gotten the newer version usually months later, mostly due to not being eligible for a subsidized device under contract for 22 months, for example, with Sprint. But with T-Mobile, I'll be able to get the newer device when available due to their 'No Contract' option with annual eligibility for a new device, and twice a year eligibility for newer devices with the 'Jump' program, although newer versions of the same device, S2-S3 and S3-S4 for example, drop once a year. My last few devices have been Samsung upgrades. But I can change manufactures if the model warrants it, and then it would be possible to upgrade maybe twice a year. But Samsung Galaxy series have been berry, berry good to me
With the above being said, you'll NEVER see me waiting on a line outside the store waiting to get a new device the day it comes out, and obviously you won't see me in a tent overnight or for days on end waiting to be one of the first to get a new device. Now that's a Sickness, imho :silly:
I'll wait a few days or weeks until the device is available without the lines, or when it's back in stock.
Now back to the 'couch' already in session lol!
I bought the phone because I am a huge fan of the newest technology. I skipped on the one simply because the button layout, HTC sense, and the screen being a tiny bit smaller. Having the latest technology intrigues me (and poor impulse control lol) to buy these new gadgets.
As of now I'm really only interested in Samsung and Nexus devices unless something else over shadows those. There's no real good reason for upgrading every time a new phone is available for me. A phone from a year or two ago would suffice but I just have to have the latest and greatest. Its definitely an American mentality.
It's easier to click "thanks" than type it.
I'm still using my Galaxy S1 and after 2.5 years the battery is almost gone.
The phone has become really slow and hangs a lot.
Thus, I just ordered a new S4
I had a LG G2X for over 2 years. Always hated the camera and screen size, but when it first came out it was good. Got slower and slower over the months. Got to the point where if I downloaded an app over 30mb it wouldnt run on the phone so I gave up on it. Looked up all kind of reviews of the S4 for about 2 months before I dished out the cash for it.
The things that one me over were:
Camera
IR Blaster
Performance specs
& Support I THOUGHT it was coming with.

I bought it for the prompt and timely updates from Samsung and T-Mobile.

Hahaha. Then you bought it for the wrong reasons. Lol
current phone g2x POS , dead pixel (so line on the screen), intermittent Bluetooth cut out when backlit buttons light up or go out. and general nvidia/lg crappy build support for drivers.
going to s4 on the 16th as soon am my contract is over. root remove bloat and be happy.
i replace a phone when it no longer dose what i need it to do. g2x issues gps / Bluetooth , forced to use stock roms if you want to be able to make calls and having working Bluetooth if you made the mistake of updating the base band to get gps working.....been waiting for my contract to be done for the last 2 months i can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel 8 more days and i can retire the g2x to become a backup mp3 alarm clock and gps nav device...
For me its a hobby to get new phones. I havent use any phone for more than 6 months.

I LOVE tinkering and twiddling with my devices. I generally keep a phone over a year or until a badly thought out mod kills it, but last phone had next to no development. I kinda splurged on this one. It's my first very high end one and I LOVE it. Made me realize that almost all the mods I've been doing on various phones were to get them closer to the level this one is.
wanna hear a story i work at a cellphone retail store my boss love iphones
the first time i got a phone was a blackberry slow as **** then i went to sprint and got 2 option the 4s or the galaxy s2
i went with the s2 of course i hate iphones

xda has the best customer service lol
since then i had the s2,s3,note 2 and now the note 3
why i buy samsung phone easy to customize root, removal battery and sd card
im a music junkie and no other phone has what Samsung phones offer,
i play with all new device since i work in a cellphone retail but in the end samsung for me
sorry for my bad english and bad grammar
Well I have always purchased Android phones, and I picked up the Galaxy S4 after my Galaxy Nexus bit the dust.. switched to T-Mobile to get the unlimited data and I've been incredibly happy with them so far
I like to have the it phone so people admire it, and ask me to customize theirs.
To make $ rooting and flashing it has to be a phone a lot of people have.
For me it's been g1, g2, Hercules, s3, s4. Samsung will likely have the next one: s5
