Who is going to be the first to try NeverWet on their phone? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

There is a new product on the market, sold at Home Depot, called NeverWet that promises to make everything waterproof. Check out the video and towards the end they waterproof an iPhone. This looks like some pretty amazing stuff!
http://youtu.be/DZrjXSsfxMQ

Looks awesome. Just don't know if I'm willing to try it on my $800 Note II. Luckily I have a old E4GT that I don't care about. And its in stock and & only $20 at my local Home Depot. Will post back with my results.

Just got this amazing stuff today! Tried it with shirt first, its drying right now. I'm going to try my shirt first then my shoes and then a couple of old cellphones before my G2x and finally if i see enough i will attempt the Galaxy S4. This is soo much cheaper than liquipel.

Looks like some crazy stuff. I saw their video on the Chive a week or two ago.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium

I just tried this on my LG G2x and i can confirm it work. I dod not submerge my phone in water, i just splashed the circuit board with some water. You have to completly coat the parts you dont want water to get to. Best way is to create a seal so that water wont get to parts where you dont want water to get to and cat neverwet it.
I can confirm that NeverWet does NOT conduct electricity. I sprayed the battery contacts and i had to scratch the NeverWet off with a knife. My phone would not turn on with the NeverWet coating on the battery contacts.

The thing I want the most from next generation of phones is for them to just be tougher. I want them water proof (liquipel pretreated) , shatterproof (flexible displays) , and power strong (next gen lithium ion batteries).

This definitely looks awesome. I think I am going to test it on my back cover of my note 2. To make sure it doesn't affect the paint or anything. I can always get another back. Can't wait to try it. May post a review on here or probably a video. I will also try it on my seidio surface case. Too bad can't do it in the screen or front of phone. Probably no point in doing it to the back in that case. I guess we'll see
Sent from the Great Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2

I wouldn't... The stuff does not dry transparent from what I've read. If it isn't transparent enough for car windshields, color me a skeptic at it looking good on a smartphone
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2

want to try this so bad, just not a fan of dissecting my phone into pieces, wish we could just do the exterior and protect it from getting into the inside of the phone, going to buy this stuff tonight and use on my shoes and stuff, and maybe one daring day ill do it on an older phone i dont care too much about anymore.
plan on using it to protect my shoes during the warrior dash.

Interesting the video shows a phone but the instructions in the package state NOT to use on electronics.

Its probably due to what the other user stated that it doesnt conduct electricity.

I was thinking the same thing. I have an old 4G EVO as well and it should be put to good use.

After reading more info on this I will not be trying on my phone. I'll stick to using this on other items though. But if anyone uses it on their phone definitely post it here. It's still a cool product. This would be awesome on a tent or umbrella.

Just got this and some Duster spray. For 28.35 from the local home Depot.
Hope it works. I've been doubtful but now I got the supplies so I must complete this project.
I want water proof ness so I can play under water.
I took apart my gn2 once before to reassemble the power button
so I'm not too scared but I am a little nervous.
Pray for me guys.

Be careful, never wet is known not to be very permanent. It scratches off easily.

Tried this stuff on my shoes and a shirt and a plunger before id mess with on my device happy I did so.. didnt work on shirt like on the ads. Shoes only worked on one of them...plunger worked good. Not to everyone and else not sure if its said in any ads but I dont believe it protects against running water but it seems to work best in water thats standing still like puddles and what not.

I bought some from home depot last week put it on my work boots. I paint traffic controll markings and the neverwet doesnt even repel our water base paint we use, sticks right to it. Also it rubbed off in about a day or two. I tried putting it on my seidio active case and it dried frosted looking and almost white in some spots and it wore off in about 5 minutes, from taking it in and out of my pocket. I would definitely not try it on my phone it might work a little while but I wouldnt trust it. I would only buy it to mess around with it has almost no real practical use cause it rubs off so easy.

I have an old EVO 4G I could try it on. Will report back.

For all those times I talk underwater or in rain storms...oh wait

Dropped your unprotected Epic touch? How'd you make out?

My Epic just hit the concrete floor today. The plastic bezel took the grunt of the 2 foot fall and mushroomed. The screen now has a horrible scrape. On the brighter side, i got insurance to replace the phone at best buy(no deductible).

The sucky part about dealing with best buy is that they make you wait 1-4 weeks to get you phone back. I waited about a week on my original Epic.

I dropped mine on smooth concrete (had my hands full, and the thing is so damn light and a little slippery), landed on a corner. Luckily just scuffed the black off, didn't touch the screen or deform in anyway. A little work with a black sharpie and it isn't visible from more than a 6 inches away or so. Got a TPU case for it now, so hopefully that will help if it happens again.

There is a difference between a repair and rapid exchange.
Repair is self explanatory. If phone is unrepairable then you get a replacement. Takes 3-4 weeks.
Rapid exchange means that you get a loaner phone for a refundable deposit. Turnaround time is 2-3 business days as long as they have a stock of the phone at the rapid exchange center. If no phone is available then its repair only.
I just ended up buying sprints protective case. It doesn't add much thickness and also adds a pretty cool kickstand. The bezel on the case comes out a little though, I assume it is to help protect the screen should you drop it.

The solution they have dries really quickly, they added some substance it in, so even if the tiniest bit gets in there, you shouldn't worry too much, unless you spill the whole bottle in there lol

Does it go right to the edges of the screen?
I got one ordered this weekend hopefully arriving soon.
How difficult was the application? I'm not too keen on wet application (Zagg, ugh) but is it pretty much drench, lay it on the screen and shift to center ASAP? Past experience with Zaggs, I've usually had to lay it perfectly on the first try since I wouldn't be able to shift it around afterwards.
FYI, "byublue", as mentioned earlier, takes $3 off, which is slightly better than 20%.

I'm assuming all wet applications should be the same, which means that your experience with zagg will be similar with xo.
You wouldn't be able to shift it around after its applied. However, you can peel it upwards, apply some more liquid, then place it back down
Did that with my skinomi, had no problem with it, should work with all wet screen protectors
Got mine today and applied it tonight. It was my first wet application, and it was WAY easier than the (dry-apply) SGP Crystal I had on my Dinc.
It goes very close to the edge of the screen.
No orange peel
No rainbow effect
As I said before... highly recommended

So I've never done a wet install. Basically I get as much of the liquid out as possible and then wait overnight for it to settle?
I don't think people realize that, sure even though your device isn't damaged from the liquid solution that may or may have leaked into the phone. BUT it probably set off the water damage sticker inside voiding your warranty.
That's the biggest fear for most people including myself.

are you asking where to get a screen, or how to replace the screen?
As far as where, you'll have to do some searching around. Sprint techs like us have the luxury of harvesting screens off returned phones (normally used for repairs)...but epic screens are generally so far and few between i doubt you'd find a tech willing to sell one to you.
If you're asking how, that's easy. Unscrew the six screws underneath the battery cover. Then using a really thin piece of plastic or even your fingernails, begin to pry the area where the bezel meets the glass down both sides and the top (the bezel-back-frame almost fits like a cap on the screen). Then just lift the bezel-frame from the screen in an out then down motion (basically, the top separates first, then you'll have to go down and out to get the bottom part off; you don't want to pry the bottom part straight out so as not to damage the charging port). During this, you'll likely see your headset jack move with the frame, that's ok because it moves pretty freely inside.
Once inside, you'll see two flat Phillips head screws, unscrew those. You won't need to unscrew the third tiny one in the upper right hand corner. There are several cables (3 or 4) that are plugged into ports, just unplug them, nothing fancy. Just make sure you look closely so you don't miss one. Then, the motherboard (which is roughly shaped like an "L" ) just lifts up. Reverse directions to put in a new screen. Easy squeezy lemon Japanesey.

Okay, so, after spending a bit too much time browsing this here forum I got the ridiculously terrible idea to paint my phone. Yeah, while it may have worked out for some of you, I guess I don't have the skills with a spray can as of yet, and my 600 dollar phone was a very bad place to try to learn. Anyhow, I really messed it up, and while everything still works, I would like to have my phone's sleek beauty returned as opposed to this sticky, peeling mess. So order a new housing, right? WRONG. Apparently the sprint housing literally doesn't exist online anywhere whatsoever. Yep. I've spent hours scouring the depths of the interwebs to absolutely no avail. I'm fairly sure the Verizon housing won't, in fact, work, due to the sim card slot it possesses that mine lacks. When I Google "sprint galaxy nexus replacement housing", it literally ****ing gives me links to chargers for sale. Which on its own is rather mind boggling. Anyways, what I'm hoping is that someone here happens to know where I can get my hands on a sprint gnex housing, or has one to sell. This phone is completely 100% functional, and I'd really rather not shell out 150 bucks to assurion to make it look pretty again. So, fellow nexus lovers, please hear my cries of desolation and offer some sort of advice. I miss how sexy this thing used to be... I'm never going to stop kicking myself for painting it. Anyways, hopefully some part of this wall of text made sense, because I am thoroughly desperate. Thanks.

You could try cleaning off the paint with acetone or paint thinner, tho im not sure what it will do to the finish on the nexus but it should remove some of it. other option is to sand it down gently and remove the paint the repaint. as far as the nexus housing it isnt available yet you could try finidng one online with a broken screen. otherwise at this time you may be SOL

Mostly, I'd just like to replace the middle housing because I screwed up the volume button/ the battery door doesn't sit nearly as nice as it used to. However, its completely functional otherwise, which is why it seems stupid to pay a significant amount of money for a whole new phone when all it needs to be good as new is a 10 dollar part. It seems odd to me that the GSM/Verizon housings are seemingly limitless, whereas the sprint one is nowhere to be found (without an accompanying LCD, lol).

Just strip the paint for the time being. Looks to me like you didn't sand quite good enough and didn't use an adhesion promoter and the pain didn't cure correctly.
not to troll or anything, but I kind of like the design it created. Personally I'd clear coat it and use it, makes for a unique pattern. or maybe use a thin layer of black over top and wet sand it down so the patterned lines come through as red.
Actually, I was planning on keeping this back cover, most likely big just need to somehow repair my volume button.

Could be a stress fracture. If you ever carry your phone in your jeans pocket and sit down, it could have stressed the bezel enough to crack.

Yeah that could be.. sucks still.. I hope the n4 is not like the GS5.. kind of want to stay away from plastic samsung but I love the note.. looks like they didnt beef up that spot.. I took the back cover out and I can see its a thin part...
Anoyone know if this can be replaced? As in just that bezel part? Im assuming its built in part of the screen.. going to check out youtube disassemble

It's part of the chassis, you'd have to literally remove every single part from the phone, including the screen/glass, to replace it.

The display/front glass assembly is glued to the chassis so if you try to remove it, you'll likely break it, or at the very least get tons of dust under the screen. Sucks, but you just gotta live with it.

Yeah I ordered a main frame... as for the screen its sealed in so no dust will be going under that as im not replacing the screen part.. replacing most of the part is easy just the screen part will have to take it easy.. I have the tools to do it.. I have taken phone my iphone apart so I have no fear lol
I would call TMo about it, there is no obvious sign of abuse, looks like a manufacturing defect to me. Whats the worse they can say?

Idk about that as I bought it full price no contract on tmo and using it on ATT network, but I will Be going back to t mobile this year. .
Yeah, but you did buy it from T-Mobile regardless of payment or where it's used. Call them. Again, worst they can say is no, but maybe they say yes.....
I have one on mine, same spot

There was a thread just like this one and a few people had the same crack and said it was never dropped. It looks like it may be a stress point and just a weak point.

I do. I use one of the strongest cases which are the UAG's. Ive only dropped the phone once without a case by falling off the bed onto a tile floor. No noticeable damage to the phone aesthetics other than the line near the spen. But I don't think that little fall caused this.

Doesn't bother me. When I first saw it I thought it was apart of the phone. But I will however trade my note 3 because my proximity sensor has been broken for a month now ?

Wish I saw this post yesterday when I went into my rant about build quality...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51464665
What I didn't mention is this happened in a t-mobile store as I was trying this case on during my lunch break. Went back to store and they said there is nothing they can do, even with the manager there I pleaded. So a hairline crack will not be taken care of unless you feel like paying your $175 deductible or whatever it is.
Samsung can't care less, and left another angry voice mail with incipio.

Not buying another Samsung until build quality improves

People really just need to stop sitting on their phones
