if this root and ginger bread and has set you want CM10.1 making corresponding step. but it and done the ROM manager but it stays flashing flashes 100% and does not advance d there ...

You should install CM10.1 through CWM, so basically you need to ROOT your phone first.

Please be careful. I have a rooted nitro and was on CM10.1 with Wind Kernel with a lot of apps installed. I had several nandroid backups made with CWM latest version.
Since wind over clocks, my nitro got so unstable (bootloop) that I had to go back to the backup.
However, CWM was not able to restore the backup image.
All of the backups did not work.

Something similar happened to me earlier.. when you where in the backup/restore menu did you select the "restore from external sd card" option? And if you did and it still didn't work I recommend starting over fresh.. go here and this should allow you to do so. Qbking's awesome :good:.. Follow his steps and he'll have back in action in no time.
Sounds like you didn't root and install a custom recovery. If you can get into download mode, you can flash one of the one-click stock rooms and then give it root access after.

[Q] Noob here. Is installing Cyanogenmod 10 on my SGH-i747M with Rogers safe?

Hello.
I have a GS3 SGH-I747M on rogers. The last one I was trying to get Cyanogenmod 10 on kept getting (Status 7) error. Nothing screwed up at all, until I attempted to unlock the boot loader with some stupid app that said it was safe wit my phone. I finally got a new one, found a solution to my issue (I have to use a different version of clockworkmod) and was wondering if it is safe to do. I mean no chance of risk if I follow instructions (no bricks, etc).
TL;DR: I have an SGH-i747M on rogers and want to out cyanogenmod 10 on with no chance of brick. Could you give me instructions on how to, or tell me if it is safe/unsafe?
Thanks a lot,
Edwin
Flash a newer recovery prior to flashing CM10.

I suggest that you take a look at these first before trying to root your phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1725839
Second, I have Cyanogenmod 10 and I can say that it's playing safe so far - the only disadvantages that you would have are: Samsung's gestures are not functional and CM10 is kinda unstable for games and apps. I also experienced the Status 7 error and from experience, it's caused by using an 'old' version of CWM Recovery. Download the latest one from here (Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T): http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager and download the Cyanogenmod 10 M2 from the CM site.
Assuming that you know how to setup the custom recovery for your phone, delete the current recovery.img on your phone and replace it with the new one that you downloaded. Then just do what you did to setup your custom recovery. I also suggest that you follow the ROM flashing guide on this page: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III:_Full_Update_Guide as it is what I followed to ensure that a brick wouldn't happen on my phone. Just a reminder, also wipe the Dalvik cache just to be sure.
TL;DR Flashing and rooting is safe as long as you're patient and you thoroughly follow guides on rooting/flashing your phone.

I don't really recommend that as that could cause unwanted trouble. From my experience, I just followed the rooting guide that I posted, flash a custom recovery, and flashed the Cyanogenmod 10. Another tip, if you don't want to lose your contacts, make a backup of it before flashing a ROM. Preferrably you write them in a paper so it would be easier. If you have important messages, use an SMS/MMS backup tool to save them. As for applications, make a list of applications that you consider are essential for you so you could just redownload them. Starting out in a custom ROM is really hard at first but you'll get used to it.
Its safety is directly proportional to your ability to follow directions.
Your first mistake was you used the app to unlock the VERIZON S3 bootloader.
All other versions of the GS 3 have unlocked bootloaders.
You should definitely do some more research before you attempt root and custom recovery.

Can you just use ROM Manager after rooting and flashing the stock ROM to download CWM, then CM10? And is the CM10 you're using on your Rogers phone compatible? I don't see a Rogers version on the CM site. Did you use the AT&T one?
Yes for the ROM manager, but the free version doesn't install latest touch recovery. The at&t version is compatible with all Canadian i747m. You can get the latest version here: http://get.cm/?device=d2att

What does touch recovery do? And do I have to use that link to flash it, or can I use ROM Manager? And if I were to use that link, I would DL the zip, boot my phone into download mode, plug in, open Odin, make sure auto reboot and F reset time are checked, load the .tar into the PDA, and click start? What happens to the previous ROM that was there?
And when I first root my phone, and load the stock rom, do all of my apps remain? I haven't rooted yet, for my Rogers phone.
A touch recovery lets you touch the screen as apposed to using the volume rocker.
You will keep all your data.

Thanks for the help! Another question, if I would like to unroot my phone, and decrease the flash counter, is there a thread I should see for the I747MVLLH1? I know about triangle away, but Rogers/my model isn't supported for that.
Triangle away does support Rogers gs3
Thanks! So should I flash CM10 through ROM Manager, or through the link that was posted? I'm not exactly clear on how to flash the ROM through the link though. Does flashing a new ROM erase the previous ROM? And 'wiping cache' doesn't wipe your data/apps right, only 'wipe Data and Cache'? And I don't really need to bother with kernels too right?
If you going from stock to cm10 wipe everything: cash, data, dalvik cash. Don't flash kernels unless you want to overclock and undervolt, cm10 comes with kernel and I get pretty good battery life with it. You can flash from ROM manager, and yes it will erase your previous ROM, so do a backup before flashing.

And when I flash it through ROM Manager, it would give me the option to wipe everything right?
The backup that I would do through ROM Manager, thats just incase anything goes wrong right? It's not to get back my apps once I flash from stock to CM10? Other than manually installing them after flash, is there any way to quickly get back my apps/files?
And does the CM10 flash from ROM Manager include the GAPPS file?
Yes it will ask you if you want to wipe, if you download cm10 ROM from ROM manager it will ask you if you want the latest gapps. You can get ROM toolbox or titanium backup to backup your apps and restore them after flashing rom. Backup is just in case but you can always flash stock ROM later if anything goes wrong.

You should probably flash through your cwm recovery instead of ROM Manager, but yea you can do a backup in recovery or ROM Manager, and I recommend Titanium backup it's easy to use and free.

[Q] Rom downgrade

Hello all,
I'm a new user to HTC phones. I just purchased a rooted Desire HD that currently has a flavour of Jellybean installed which is some kind of CM10.
I don't really like the rom, I prefer the stock feel with Sense.
I have root and flash experience with other phones, using cwm etc. However I appreciate there can be issues when flashing from Jellybean to Gingerbread for example. Some phones lock bootloaders, have different basebands etc.
So my question, would be an easy transition from my current CM10 to a gingerbread rom such as Android Revolution? Is there anything I should be aware of or is easy as flashing the new rom after a full wipe of course?
Thanks.

Would I be right in thinking, most DHD roms can be flashed with either cwm recovery or 4ext recovery, or any recovery image for the DHD?

You can install the recovery system with the installed cwm. There is an option in this app. Then simple save the rom zip e.g. for Android Revolution HD on you sd card and boot in the recovery system. Then you can select this zip on you sd card for installing rom after full wipe. For me this is the best way to install a new rom. Do not forget to make a backup with the installed recovery system. If your phone rooted you can use titanium backup to save all apps and data.

cwm using the recovery system too to flash custom roms. You can browse in cwm for various roms but it contains not all available and existing roms. Its the decision of the developers to integrate his rom in the rom manager. Here you can find the stuff which can download via cwm directly.
Thanks for that. I was meaning the cwm recovery not the cwm rom manager. Sorry for the confusion. I meant if my phone has cwm recovery (by Koush) I can use this recovery for flashing dhd roms or would I be better flashing a different recovery?
I have never flash a custom rom on a HTC phone before. I usually use cwm recovery on other android phones to flash a rom, create backups etc.

CWM recovery is just fine, thou 4EXT is a much better recovery. Of course that is up to you, but both recoveries will work in your DHD.

[Q] galaxy s3 i747m ROGERS to jelly bean cm10

hey guys
let me start off by saying i am a noob to this site and android in general , ive learnt a lot from my galaxy s2 .
now i got the s3 , ive rooted it .. however i tried to upgrade to 4.1 awhile back . kept getting error .
anyways i want to upgrade to jellybean im sick of waiting like everyone else.
cm10 seems like a good rom , ive read a lot on this forum, could some one tell me what the first step is do i flash cwm first on the rogers stock or do i have to put ATT stock on it
thanks
cheers
Hi!
Welcome to the site! You'll really love the community here!
Here are some simple instructions I found for you: http://www.androidauthority.com/gal...elly-bean-cyanogenmod-10-cm10-preview-104742/
Just make sure you download the latest CWM from here (6.0.1.2 currently): http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.2-d2att.img
And flash it to your device.
Then follow those steps, wipe/format data partition, as it says there. CAREFUL make sure you download the latest CyanogenMod version from here too, the top one on the list is always newest, latest version came out today actually: http://get.cm/?device=d2att
Let me know how it goes and if you're enjoying it! Tried leaked version of JB on my S3 with Telus in Canada and didn't like the bugs in there...so let me know if the 'CM Finishing Touch' on there is really better than stock!

Yup! Start off with CWM Recovery flash, when that's done, transfer file to device (internal sd card) and from the ROGERS stock rom you can do the apply update from zip option in CWM.

oh and for rom manager i cannot find my phone on the list , there isn't any galaxy s3 on it weird?

If you get the SGS3 All-in-one toolkit from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488 , you can install CWM from it just make sure you have drivers installed, it can help you with that if you don't have them, and enable USB Debugging.
If that doesn't work, which I think it should, try to use this link a bit. Download the version they have it should be pretty recent.

Oh so now you have CWM? Well as long as you have it, you'll only need it once or twice to erase all data, then install CM and GApps.
Ill try it with the cwm from the superuser one but I remember doing that it said error 9 or something

Quick question, I flashed CWM recovery using the terminal, and I see it when I boot into recovery, but when I go to ROM Manager to flash CM10, it says to flash CWM Recovery, and won't let me access the list. I would've flashed CWM from ROM Manager, but the S3 wasn't on the list of devices. Is there anyway to get around this?

Hi there!
Basically you must first but the CWM ZIP file on your internal sdcard then boot into CWM, from there go to install zip file or something like that, then select from SD Card, find the zip, you're done!
Don't forget to do a factory reset through CWM before the CM10 update and maybe after too.
Let me how it goes,
Michael
Never liked CWM, I personally love TWRP as a recovery. Go to the app store and download GooManager.

And I backed up a few apps using Titanium Backup, if I use factory reset, would all my backups get erased? Thanks for your help!

Hi,
CWM = CWM Recovery; same thing just shorter .
The ZIP file for your rogers phone can be found here: http://get.cm/?device=d2att
Click the one at the top of the list as it is the newest.
Don't worry about the ROM because worst case scenario if you want to downgrade to stock, you can re-download it online and re-root.
For the apps, it depends where your backups are, usually, in TitBak, the backups are stored in /sdcard/TitaniumBackup which will be safe as formatting to factory settings and data partition in CWM doesn't format the internal or external SD Card. But I am not responsable if it does so be careful!

You can update it, I don't see what could go wrong because an update will only help fix things if there were bugs you had.

That would be with Odin you would redownload the Stock ROM for Rogers and then flash it. To reset counter, you can download the app TriangleAway for free from the Play Store and with root, it resets the counter. Then you can unroot.

When you choose to to flash the recovery, I would suggest using TRWP Recovery.
Also have a Rom and Gapps ready to flash after you root and flash your recovery, just in case you boot loop.
Enjoy :highfive:

Use the root toolkit
http://www.galaxynexusforum.com/for...s-root-toolkit-v1-6-3-updated-02-24-13-a.html
Steps:
1) Install the drivers
2) Unlock bootloader
3) Root
Once rooted, there'll be an Supersu or superuser icon
Recoveries
There are 2 types of recoveries
1) Clockwork mod (CWM)
2) Teamwin recovery project (TWRP)
Flashing custom roms
1) Download a custom rom and place it in your phone's memory
2)Make a backup
3) Wipe your phone (Your apps wont actually get wiped, you'll need titanium backup to restore them)
4) Flash your rom and google apps (Gapps) some roms include them and some do not .
5) Wait since boot time will be long, if it does not boot in like 7 mins then there a problem.
How to use titanium backup
1) Backup all your apps
2) Restore them after wiping your phone
