8.0 S Pen differences? - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

I'm torn between the note 10.1 and 8.0,and have been playing with then a loy lately. However, all the stores around here only have the pen from the 10.1 on display, not anything else. I remember a while ago I played with a pen from the 8.0 and for some reason it's stuck in my head as being different. A google search turns up no discussion on the topic. Am I crazy?
Thanks

Specifically the pen tips and the button if I remember correctly

Can't tell you anything about the pen, but coming from a nexus10 the 8.0 has just the perfect size. 10 felt a bit unhandy from time to time. Plus lower weight, plus better hardware. Personally I wouldn't waste any time on this decision

Functionality is the same, form is slightly different.

The 10.1 has removable and replaceable tips. The tablet comes with two sizes(one thicker than ghe other) The 8.0 does have a removable tip. You would have to buy a new pen if the tip gets damaged. The 10.1 pen is slightly longer.

The s pen sensitivity has been reported with note 8 to be better than with that on note 10

samsung stylus pen c

bought this stylus to use on my sgs3 and gtab, but to my suprise it doesnt work on my tab.
anyone know why? its a capacitive stylus

For whatever reason it only works on the S3 and somewhat on the Note as I've seen in some videos. Get a better stylus, it sucks anyways.
I was planning on buying too... you cannot expect it to be like galaxy note quality. And I got myself a elago stylus.

I bought a three pack for like a $1.50 on Amazon for my Dad's ipad and it works great on the S3.
Currently not being productive on my S3.
Its something to do with the higher than usual refresh rate of the S3 screen. I wish it worked on my Xoom.

Is the refresh rate adjustable? I liked it because of it's small tip

Note 2 replace nexus 7?

Hey all I'm looking at replacing my s3 and N7 with a Note 2. I don't have a problem with the size for a phone but is it big enough to replace a N7? I know this is really opinion based so that's all I'm looking for. I pretty much just use my N7 for watching YouTube and I don't want to watch it and feel like I have to strain if that male sense. Any opinions welcome thanks!

Hi. I think the best way to answer your question is that you have to try it out for yourself. Go to a shop and try an actual note 2 out. Screen size and eye strain are relative factors depending on the person and I consider it as a personal preference. Though I think the note 2 screen is big enough not to cause eye strain.

I have both and I would say the You Tube and Netflix experience is better on the Nexus 7. Netflix is great on the Nexus 7 IMHO.
You could manage on the Note 2, but it is just not quite big enough for me.
After I have purchased my original note 1 about a year ago, I have never bothered with any 7 inch tabs

I'm currently using a Fire HD and Note 2. Perfect combo. HD replaced my N7.

I am actually doing the same thing OP. As soon as my Note 2 arrives I will be selling my S3 and N7.
I rather carry one device to do all that I need done on a mobile device.

OG Note made me sell the ipad 2 at the time. And I jumped on Note 2 on its release day. No need for tablet for me anymore.
Maybe swap my ageing MBA for a Surface later on if that's convincing enough though.
My 2 rupies =)

Personally I don't think its big enough to replace the N7, it certainly won't be replacing mine.

Note 2 Pen - Surface

Just got the microsoft Surface Pro today and my Note 2 pen works great with it! no need to lug around 2 pens is great :highfive:
How do you like it? Not trying to hijack your thread or anything. But for the sticker price that thing better be able to make me bacon and eggs every morning.

Yeah. My wife has a Samsung series 7 slate and her s pen works great with it.
Sent from a galaxy far^2 away.
Have had much time with it yet. But its a 2lb powerhouse! Can get any better multitasking.
Some problems might be the battery life(4hrs). I am carrying around an alienware m15x(15lbs) now I can do most everything with this 2lbs tab.

[Q] What made you choose the Note 2 over the S 3?

What decisively made you go Note 2 over S 3?
2Gb of RAM and usability
Spen, 2gb ram, bigger screen, software. Absolutly everything!

Battery for my concern, s3 battery simply not enough for me.
Only had the S3 for 6 months then decided to go bigger. Chose it for it's battery life, bigger screen and much better speaker sound.

+1 exactly the same for me, the Note 2 is best phone I have owned.

Missus has an S3. Apart from being lighter and slightly larger than my HTC DHD it didn't seem special. Still too small to comfortably use as a laptop replacement. It also looks cheaper and more like a toy, my grey note looks considerably smarter.

I liked the big screen and stylus which is handy being built in.
The ram is a big plus too

Because i really thought there would be less stupid threads over in here nah i joke this place is full of them lolol.. Erm because it was the best thing on the market and it's huge

Reasons I switched to the Note 2 from S3:
1. Stopped eyeing the RAM usage after closing every app.
2 . I barely use my laptop now thanks to the bigger screen for watching movies or editing documents on the go, the S3 could handle it but the screen just felt small and the Note2's S pen helps alot especially with lower DPI.
3. Newer than the S3 and felt like it would be a while before it goes outdated, again it's partly because of the additional RAM which makes it feel future proof for the next year or so.
4. My wife has an S3 and I felt like since I'm bigger than her I should have a bigger phone
5. Because of the wider screen, the keys are bigger and it's more comfortable to type on with both thumbs.
6 . because I think I deserve the best!

Me too. I decided today to get Note 2 after 10 months of owning S3 and S4 seems not to be really big step ahead. Note 2 battery, RAM and screen FTW!
Screen, battery, RAM, in this order!
REALLY???

Unless you don't want a big screen phone, there isn't anything better about the S3 compared to the Note II. The Note II is better in every way possible. If you are truly on the fence about the two devices, then let me tell you to stop wasting you time comparing the S3 vs the Note II and start comparing the S4 vs the Note II.

S-Pen compatibility (esp 8pi version) [solved]

Gday,
Pretty happy so far with this, but looking for a stylus that feels a bit better in the hand.
Been looking at the 8pi (non-embedded) stylus for the note 10.1 but nowhere that I've searched says that it works with other note devices. The replacement one seems to, but theres always a tag at the bottom of each description i find saying 10.1 only.
I cant see this really being the case, but I thought it would be easier to find information saying it works or not.
Thanks for the help!

I have the S-Pen with eraser and like it a lot. Eraser works great. And it feels great in the hand, just like a regular pen.

I have the 8pi from Amazon. It works well with the Note 8. But I had to adjust mine in Lecture Notes by 5 pixels, it was off by just a hair. I like it better than the built in pen. The one the Note 8 comes with is too skinny to be comfortable. I don't really use the eraser end. It's easier to use the regular button (in lecture notes).

Thanks for replies. Bought it and works a treat! I did notice just a slight offset especially using hover but I'll address that if i need to.
So despite Samsung's warnings etc.
The Galaxy Note 10.1 8pi S-pen works and is compatible with the Note 8.
