WiFi issues - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was wondering if anyone has ever had WiFi connectivity problems? Its not that it won't connect to WiFi, the problem is that if I walk more than five feet away from the router I lose all my WiFi bars. Its not the router I check every persons phone that comes to my house and they get full WiFi bars. I called sprint but they don't know jack about anything what so ever. Any fix or feedback would be great. Thanks.

Crappy wifi?

I'm running Damage Control 3.2.3 since I got the Evo about a month ago so I don't have too much time running the stock ROM.
I've noticed the wifi signal sucks! I can be using the wifi sitting on the couch a few from the router and my signal dropouts out every so often. I'm also running the latest radio (2.05.00.06.10).
Anyone have wifi issues?

Mine isn't THAT bad. But I have noticed the signal seems abnormally lower than other devices. And there are places where I can't even see a wifi signal that other devices can see and connect to.
Anyone have any insight as to why our Evo's arent good with Wifi Reception ?
problems with wifi, reset router.
I had problems with my wifi signal. thought that it was because of my flashing back and worth from rom to rom. Finally, decided to reset my router and voila! signal problems were gone.
this is totally non-specific to a router.
My laptop had full strength. My evo has one bar. Same thing at home, other people's homes, hot spots, etc. My friends iPhone picks up wifi signals i can't even see. It's pretty annoying. Probably just an inferior antenna inside the phone.

[Q] How do I get stronger WiFi signal

Heya, iv been having a problem with WiFi. Any Rom I use and kernel and any radio. I always get ****ty WiFi strength everywhere . Right now sitting in my room about 1.5 meters away from my router that's on my desk I get 2/4 or 3/4 bars of signal. It's really freakin annoying, even at mates places j can't get their WiFi to connect cause it doesn't like connecting to a WiFi network if its not below -90db.... anyone know a fix ?

Do you have the phone I'm a case? If so yet without and see what your signal strength is.
Shouldn't make too much difference if your right next to the router though.
Also power cycle the router, then phone. Check your router transmit Tx strength, increase it to max if option allows.
Try a changing router between g b n , save & power cycle router then.phone after each.

Nah phones not in a case, ill try the tx thing now and ill get back to ya.

It seems to be the obtaining ip address part that prevents it from connecting, if it hasnt got much signal strength say 1/4 bars it will sit on obtaining ip address then just cutout

Are you connecting to secured networks, if so, see what happens with security disabled?

as stupid as this may sound, make sure that the back covers are well clipped...since the antennas are on the back covers...happened to me once before...whilst the phone was in a case so did not realise until I pulled it out of the case to reclip properly back into its place.

Airave works great

Out of curiosity, who here has an airave? My mother got hers yesterday for free for being a loyal customer for 11 years and also because of her horrible coverage in her home. I actually called customer service to see if she was eligible and she was. She used to get 1 to 2 signal bars on her epic 4g touch and now she gets full bars. Her 3g speeds went up 1.5 mbps from .3mbps. She's pretty happy with her airave . I also find out that they are planning to build a sprint tower about 20 minutes away off the highway from where she lives. No reason to leave sprint anyone time soon . Hell if the Tmobile and AT&T merger happens and I hope it doesn't, I'm heading to Sprint.
I don't know about Sprints version but we've used an At&t microcell for over a year with little to no issues. Had to pay $150 for the damn thing but it's been great. They should work similarly.

Have had ours for some time now. Had a couple issues with it, but was always resolved within a timely manner. Without out ours here in the home, we'd see 1 bar if that. Got ours free from the problems that we've had signal wise.
Got an airave v2 from sprint for free since my basement drops calls, works great throughout the entire house, sometimes it doesn't switch properly to the sprint tower when I get out of range outside and drops though, but that's a rarity

I have a new version Airave in my home (got it for free from Sprint cuz of poor signal quality indoors), and it works very well.
That's great that some have it especially for free. One question, does anyone have the GPS blinking green. When I first set it up it stopped blinking green and noticed now that it's blinking. I don't have the airave near a window nor elevated because of how her computer is set up and located. Should I bother connecting the external GPS or just not worry about it. My mother won't use her GPS whatsoever. Thanks.
Gps has to get a signal before airave will recieve data. As well as in highest level of support every call was airave. They work for a while and stop. We had an airave dept, but the calls were in the 100's every hr. We had to take all the overflow airave calls. Hate those things!

I used mine without the extra gps ant. For a few months with mixed results. After a while I noticed the gps light flashed often, so I hooked up the external Gps reciever. Night and day diffrence. The airave never skips a beat, and signal is 100 fold better.

I can't get my airave to work. I have it after the router and the GPS and Mobile lights are still blinking.
love my airvana
if your having issues put it before the router
Airave here. I like it and it works. Was free via sprint rep

I want it after the router. I dont want to use the Airave's routing capabilities since I already have it set up on my linksys router.
I've read that you that you can just plug it in and it should work. I have tried changing the IP, etc. So far nothing.

It needs to be close to a window or attach the GPS antenna to a window. Also first time plug in could take hours to go solid lights.

I want to have it after the router as well, and thats where mine is; however, in a situation like yours where your trying to fix a problem its time to troubleshoot. If you put it before the router and it works then you've identified where the problem lies...
I have 2 of them Since i have a large family on my account that live in 2 different cities they gave me a second one free.I love them while in house i get great download speed and calls are not a issue.
I got it more for the download speed then anything else plus helps with tether

Wait... Your tethering from your phone which gets its signal from the airave which gets its signal from your home Internet connection?
I see two middle men that can be cut out of this equation

I too have crappy signal at home. For those who have gotten unit from Sprint free do you still have to pay the monthly airwave fee? Seems to be unfair since you are using your own internet service provider to hook the airwave to.

By the way to all of you who want it after a Router, I have mine setup after a Router. The steps are easy just gotta port-forward. Google it =)
I did google. I also have the ports forwarded. The mobile and GPS leds are still blinking. It might come down to my charter service is not that great for VOIP (I even have OOMA too). I suspect it's that.
Shoulon, what steps did you do for after router setup?
Thank you.

Weak wifi Signal

For some reason my area inexplicably became a dead zone about a month ago and now I have to rely on wifi calling. Only problem is this phone seems to have a weak wifi radio. My ipod touch and my laptop always have more bars. I get about 1 or 2 bars in my office and it drops calls at that point.
I read somewhere that different kernels can help with this issue. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You HAVE to have cell service to make calls on wifi. If it can't at least register with the network it won't work.
What case are you using, my case weakens my WiFi signal

I go case free. And wifi calling works perfect when I am in the same room as the router. Go to another room and I constantly get call drop notifications.

i agree wifi is weak. at school i have a hard time connecting to their wifi. in settings it shows strength as very good but when i try to connect it takes along time and then doesnt connect after all because it says the signal is weak.
That's odd. I can't recall ever having an issue with wifi...
Is it supposedly a problem on all variants?

Yes i've noticed that the WiFi reception is a bit weak with this device....I noticed it because I rely heavily on it in my house for WiFi calling, and I compared it with previous devices I've used with WiFi calling in the past.
I'm just sayin!

+1 for me noticing really weak WiFi.

Are you guys sure it isn't the router? Or perhaps it just reads/reports signal stregnth different than your older phones. (As in, the signal is just as strong, but your old phone reported that signal as 4bars, while the gs3 reports it as 3)
I'm not saying everyone is wrong, I know you're probably right on for your situation, I'm just trying to toss out things you may not have considered.
Right now I'm in my garage, about 15 yards away from my router with 2 walls (one brick) between, and I'm showing full signal. I can double that distance, add more walls and sitting in my car I still pull a signal. Yes it is far weaker but still useable.

Just a quick question. When wifi calling is on, the signal bar for your cell reception should be blank correct?

sounds like one of these things:
you're connected to a crappy router (like an Amped branded router). i have an Asus (NT-N66U) and a Linksys (WRT54G) that doesn't have those wireless problems.
you MAY have a faulty phone. emphasize on MAY.
you're out of range.
the antennas on the router isn't putting out a strong signal anymore because it's dying.
my money is on the wireless router you're running. if its not the hardware of the router itself, then its the crappy firmware on it (which might be remedied by DDWRT or Tomato, which can also boost the signal output in exchange for more heat/shortened lifespan).
Are you using the 5G wireless band (if your router even has it)? I've have nothing but problems using my 5G band on my Galaxy S3 and now my Note II. Like you, it connects and disconnects often, sometimes multiple times a minute.
I switched to the standard wireless band and I no longer have any problems. Honestly don't know if it's my router (Netgear N600) or something with the Samsung phones. The only other device I have that sees the 5G connections is my laptop and I have no problems remaining connected to that.
