Hi all,
Im an experienced WM developer and switching to Android as a user,
I Got I9003 and working very fine with me, my device is Arabic enabled,
I have flashed my mobile more than 10 times( using I9003JPKE1_OJPKC2_JXKA4 and Odin) because of trying to get Vanilla Unlock and the nice theme here

3. what to do exactly to get theme Ultimate-Bule-tripin in my version?

The Titanium free version hasn't mega-useful Batch operations. So if you have many apps to backup, it'll be incredible long story to backup them one-by-one on free version. So, get Full version, or try MyBackup Pro app, or use a nandroid backup using ClockWorkMod. Btw, CWM isn't a replacement for lockscreen, it's recovery mode mod allowing to do some useful operations (such as backup, wipe caches e.g. etc.)
Or you can use Google and get the full version, i'm not sure if i can give you any link, so i wont, but if you know how to use google you can find it without a problem

#2 question...download ROM manager and select flash clockwork recovery, then it should give you an option to choose your device. Download CWMod for your phone. You should now have latest clockwork.

Ans: I think Titanium Backup will do the work most. Recommend that only restore APK without data as you may face force close in some apps. Beware that it does not backup APN setting. Please use APN Back&Restore in case APN is total wipe out. U can use CWM backup through recovery mode and restore. Beware sometime CWM can get corrupted and data restore will have some force close after reboot

Ans: Glass lock has nothing to do with CWM. It is the laucher bug issue. Sometime is best to install 2 or more laucher in your rom. Just flash another laucher through ODIN will work.

Ans: Feedback the bug you are having to the theme developer. They should know how to fix it. Is thier duty to provide solution.
4. what else i should know
Ans: You may find that not all products suite you and not all product developed is perfect. Keep flashing for the right one, learn from mistake, pick-up the error and google your problem for solution. Standby your spare phone in case your phone is totally knock down and cannot be restart.

As a very good FREE backup tool I'm using My Backup Root (from the market). You need to have your phone rooted but it works very nice.
Thanks a lot guys, you helped me well, I mentioned the CWM because to install the update.zip which requires CWM to install because of the signature, I flashed the CWM several times with different versions but same results on startup I really like the Ultimate-Bule-tripin with the vanilla lock and i'll sell the phone if i couldnt get it

1) Did you meet the requirement??
Requirements:
-XXKB3 FW
-Deodexed framework is mandatory
2) Have you try install zip from sd card with CWM recovery? CWM provide install zip from sd card, you can explore where have you save the file and execute it. You does not need to rename the file to update.zip.
the problem is i cant install the CWM to my device, every time i install it via odin the device does not start and then i have to flash it, how can i find a version compatible with my device firmware ver?

Please provide the link to flash CWM for your I9003. I need to look at it.
Update: CWM only work for I9000, there are developer trying to get CWM working on the I9003 device.
I guess whithin 2-3 week time, CWM should be available for your device.

You are having the latest ASIAN Froyo Firmware. Your device should be compatible.

CWM does not work for your device for now. To solve your problem, try to download Root Explorer Pro version from market (Need to buy). Then you can copy the downloaded theme file into your system.
By the way, i'm from SGS I9000 device. Not from I9003. There might be some different to replace file directory.

hello, i just got my first android phone so I'm new to this sort of stuff, though I love being able to unlock hidden potential of different devices, so naturally I discovered the ability to root smart phones and all that good stuff.
The model I have is the Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660M. It's running 2.3.4. Gingerbread version.
I've been reading a lot of guides and for the most part rooting and adding additional utilities like flash, etc. seems pretty simple. However, I have not yet been able to find out how to create a back of up of my stock firmware when I bought the phone in case I end up bricking it, or decide I want to return to stock.
I've read many guides that claim to show how to create back ups and recovery points, but I'm still having trouble understanding it.
To be more specific, I would like to create as opposed to download, a back up of the phone in it's current state which is, as I said earlier, stock. I did a factory reset since I had some stuff installed while I was fiddling with it for the first time.

You have to root it before you can back up stock rom so, firstly you root it (you can find guides here on xda)
Then install clockworkmod recovery: warning: DON'T EVER USE ROM MANAGER TO INSTALL CLOCKWORKMOD ON YOUR GIO, IT WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!! use one of the recoveries found in xda, you will also find guides to install them there.
Then third; backup in clockworkmod using "backup and restore"

so first of all, what I'm looking for is called a ROM right?
what I don't get though is how come I need to modify the device before creating the backup. Isn't the phone modified at that point? Or is the stock configuration being stored somewhere on the phone that I can't see without clockwork?
You cannot create a backup without the recovery mod CWM Clockwork Recovery Mod. But to install this you need your device rooted (modified so you can modify and view system files)

1 - you don't need to search for a rom to backup your stock rom
2 - you need to root your phone in order to be able to backup your rom
3 - you need to install a more advanced recovery (program "similar" to pc BIOS) in order to do a nandroid backup
4 - after you flash that more advanced recovery (aka CWM -> ClockWorkMod), you backup your rom in "backup and restore" menu, backup. It will then store your rom in a folder.
5 - you should strongly consider after that, to install a custom rom made by many of the devs here on XDA in order to have a better experience with your phone...

I've already uploaded a stock ROM backup last fall of the same Gingerbread ROM you're running, along with instructions on how to make one yourself or flash mine.
The best advice I can give you is: research, research, and more research.

I use px-cwm-v2.zip recovery.
You flash it using stock recovery.

Also, whats a good rom to consider upgrading to? Something that has the ability to play flash videos.
EDIT:
If I understand correctly, roms are basically whole operating systems that have been customized by the developer. So a rom can be already rooted and have clockwork as well as other custom stuff, and I just need to flash it. The alternative to this is to do everything manualy... root the current OS, add clockwork and whatever else. Correct?
Also, I'm not sure yet if a rooted phone has any extra options on it's own, or if it's only a set up that's sole purpose is to allow other applications to be installed who then will give the user better control over his device.

I've got Odin and the tar downloaded, but when I go into download mode with my phone and connect it to the PC, it says that the device driver was not successfuly installed, and I get no confirmation in Odin that a connection has been made between the phone and the program.
What am I missing?

Nevermind, I needed to install Kies. Don't even need to run it. Apparently it has the driver that's needed.
Okay, I've rooted my phone successfully. Now the next step is to install Clockwork and create a back up.
Now that I understand a little bit the way Odin and flashing ROM works, I think it would be better to just download a stock ROM and in case something goes wrong, I can just flash it the way I flashed the rooted one.
(I think I saw a completely stock ROM somewhere for my model but I don't remember where. A link would be appreciated if it exists.)
Correct me if I'm wrong pls.
Also, if I do that, then is there any reason to install Clockwork since I've read that many ppl have issues with installing it and it's riskier than rooting or installing other software.
Right now I think what I'm most interested in is installing Adobe Flash Player 11 or something of the sort that can play flash videos and streams.

I'm using Opera as my browser so from what I've learned, flash doesn't work with it period. Is skyfire a good alternative?
Also, like I said, I don't think I need the clockwork if I can get a clean stock ROM that I can just flash if something goes wrong. As I don't intend to download many apps or add many phone numbers (memorized instead), a backup isn't really needed.

its an older version, its 5.0.2.7, theres also 5.0.2.8 but these give some problems after installing/wiping, so some people still use the older version.

I'm new here. I have the same problem as anonxlg. It says can't mount system. I also used the version from the big thread for new users. Can anyone enlighten me on what to do? I've been searching the forum and google, but can't make it work. I feel like a compleet noob now, and I don't feel special about it.

Edit: I kept searching, and finally found a working 5.0.2.7 version. First I had another 5.0.2.7 version, but when I tried to install it didn't work. I finally found "signed_cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4+rfs.zip (Flash from Recovery)" on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421650 (through google actually. I have to get used to this site), and I'm making my backup now.

i used the cwm linked and backup worked, i tried installing cm9 beta8 (galaxyics), and it would get stuck after samsung bootscreen (it flashes a white pick or soemthing before full back screen)
i tried restoring backup i made, and it didnt work, some mount error again
i reverted back to 5.0.2.6 and did the restore backup again, and this time it goes up the the galaxy gio gt5660m screen and just stop..
note that i do not know what the rfs/ext4 is for for the gio if that is what is causing problems

Just choose the setup for The Photon Q let it do its thing.
It is just a "stepping stone" to flash the newest from the same recovery.
It is 6.0.1.3 & works a lot slower than the newest 6.0.4.5 or TWRP from my goodies.
For the doubters I will say that, except the keyboard & digitizer input, the Q & the M are the same phone.

Love TWRP? RM installs TWRP also. Just flash the zip from cwmr see housekeeping goodies.
The biggest news is that one can go from rooted stock to custom recovery with this. If you want TWRP OR Matt's CWMR just flash it from this recovery -see goodies below. Also the attached flash-able zip is a larger font CWM version from the Atrix HD forum.
This also allows you to take the OTA using 3 (or 4 if you have not unlocked yet ) phone "apps": Rom Manager, VooDoo rootkeeper, and the stockRECOVERY.zip (Motopocalypse.apk).

Steps to restore to the newest stock rom: I have a Mac and have to : ( using Parallels desktop & W7)
1. Data wipe from CWMR a must do or WiFi breaks. No more TWRP for me, I lost extSD cause of the box in normal selection.
2. Enter fast boot ...
3. Rsdlite & select the XML from Matts util...Reboots.
4. ByPass SETUP go settings/Dev. settings for USB debug.
5. Root w/ Matts.
6. Say no to logins & syncs.
7. VooDoo protect & unroot.
8. Check for update......yes yes...stock recovery... reboot
9. VooDoo restore root.
10. Login and DL RM.
11. RM with Photon Q recovery.
12. I keep ROM on extSD only... back home
CWMR is way faster and more space efficient than TWRP. Yet the blob folder can lead many to think otherwise.
Never use a space if you rename that date code label.
You never want to use internal SD for backup or anything else as it gets wiped in the often needed data wipe/reset. That is why a SD swap is so needed on our phone.
I keep RomMgr & VooDoo on my SD so I can skip all the logins and syncs If I have to restore w/ RSD.
Now I see why there are no supporters of RM on the Photon Q forum. ROM installations do not work well with the M (read Q also).

The Q and the M are identical hardware and use the same emulated storage0.
But their digitizer screen input is the mirror of each other.
That is why the cwmr hard button version works but their official twrp will work but the screen input is mirrored.

I never used it before. But it is very handy I think all the features work. I went and bought the premium app when I first got into android with the Dx2. Looking for a bluetooth ready cm based rom to install. Carbon is not yet ready.
while I can agree it "works". The screen resolution is not set-up properly for a Razr M so the text is like a font 8. Let's not forget that one can manually or even automatically install CWM recovery that is not only appropriate for their device, but also up-to-date ie (CWM 6.0.3.2 vs 6.0.1.3) AND can be manaually assigned to be recognized by ROM manager anyway.

arrrghhh's TWRP Q 2610 in my goodies.
Until Matt takes care of the 2.6 fix this is our best recovery for 4.3 roms. It is really not that hard to anticipate where to touch & you can touch & hold without activating a button to know where to touch.
Use with TWRP MANAGER is flawless!
Screen input requires the mirror of the buttons.
For normal use it only works if choosen from bootloader (abort to bootloader w/keys).
I am uploading the very zip from the twrp mounted SD while the phone is in recovery. BE CAREFULL....
Dim Screen perks up on after a time out.
Naming a BU in recovery-Impossible.
But twrp manager makes homescreen batch operation easy, SD usb mounting & 4.3 ready....

Its a lot easier to use cwm or cwm touch or ouds that are actually built for our phone. Not to mention a lot safer.

These phones are siblings & this is a work around to have a working recovery for cm 4.3. The xt907 ver will not work!
All of the newer cwm variants work with 4.3. And they all have full graphical functionality with our phone.
I can't understand why you wouldn't recommend a solution that offers a fully working user interface when several exist.

The same reason I use rom manager on our M.
It is very handy.
Xt897 stock recovery is way better than ours.
Handy.
I backed up from the home screen & then restored from home screen with the xt926 ver.
Some posters on rzr could not get our recovery to succeed w/ 907 versions.
I don't claim to be an expert. I have been playing with Android since 1.6, and have been using UNIX and Linux based systems for over 2 decades, so I do have a decent working knowledge.
In that time, most of the expensive devices that I have seen turned into paperweights were caused by either using incorrect tools or using the correct tools without fully understanding how to use them.
I'm not trying to get into an argument, but I would suggest any user that has an interest in modifying their device learn how to use the tools that are required to do so. A working knowledge of fastboot, adb, basic Linux commands, factory and aftermarket recoveries, and RSD(or the manufacturers flashing tool for your device is the bare minimum anyone should have before rooting.
As far as 4.3 recoveries, I highly recommend switching to CWM at this point before playing. Dhacker has some available to download or you can build the newest (regular and touch) at the cwm builder site.

Be careful. I forgot this was my recovery & started to do a 2 step from twrp mgr. Backup & flash the miui alpha! In a panic I used the keys to abort.

I'm not new to rooting, ROMS or Kernels but I'm no expert either. I've flashed all sorts of ROMS on my old EVO 4g. This Samsung is a little trickier, though. I've got it rooted. No problems there. I haven't permanently installed CWM recovery though. I've read where you need to rename certain files so the S3 won't re-load the factory recovery and though I've tried, my phone won't let me rename the files. So there is problem one (once these files are renamed, is there a way to go back if you so choose? CWM says it's permanent). That said, I've got ROM manager installed on the phone and can boot into CWM that way. I've pulled a full nandroid backup before I started any of this, so I should be able to go back no problem. But, how in the heck do I flash an AOSP rom? I have no external storage, so I'm trying to use the on board flash. But I can't access that through CWM, so I can't flash it. On top of that the instructions for the Carbon ROM I'm wanting to use say's to select the wipe data/factory reset selection in CWM. When I do that, of course it wipes everything on my internal SD card so there wouldn't be a .zip file to select anyways! This is freakin' frustrating, especially after coming from an older EVO. It was so much easier.
I keep reading about using adb sideload but after all of my reading, there is no (that I can find) repository for the "end all/be all" how-to on flashing the SPH-L710. No one explains it 100% or it's for a Nexus or something. A solid tutorial would be helpful!
So I guess this boils down to:
Can I go back to stock recovery?
How do I flash a ROM using the internal memory?
How do I do this with adb (assuming I have to).

Ive heard that there are issues with newer devices and their recoveries. You can read through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391616 maybe the solution is in there.
Look for the pre rooted Odin tar - it will give you root and a custom recovery in one step, and is currently one of the easiest root methods available.
As for the file renaming, using the Odin method will bypass any need for it - as long as you make sure "auto reboot" is NOT checked, you can safely disconnect the phone when the Odin flash completes, remove and replace the battery (I might have that detail mixed up from my OG Epic days, but the correct instructions will be found with the Odin file), then boot into custom recovery before anything else, you can flash your custom rom and reboot as normal.
Since you'll be flashing over a mostly factory-fresh stock rom (root is the only change), you shouldn't need to do the factory reset (I think some recoveries for our phone do correctly preserve the internal storage, but I can't remember which ones). And the part of the stock rom that replaces the recovery with stock will only run when the rom (not recovery) boots, so by flashing a custom rom without ever booting the stock one, you bypass that issue completely - that's why you don't want Odin to auto reboot your phone after the flash.

Can I go back to stock recovery?
- sure, but there is no good reason to unless you're returning to complete stock in order to sell the phone or to have it repaired or replaced... the easiest way for that is to Odin the non-rooted stock tar package
How do I flash a ROM using the internal memory?
- it should work, I did this yesterday using CWM Touch. The possibly confusing part is that the internal memory is considered an sd card, but if you see two options then one will be clearly labeled as external (I say if because I don't know whether any recoveries hide that one when no sd card is actually present).
How do I do this with adb (assuming I have to).
I actually don't know the answer to this one, but if you use the Odin method then it won't be necessary

I think you are over complicating yourself. You should have started by flashing custom recovery with odin and that's it then in custom recovery flash the Teamepic root zip. That's it voila your done. Easiest thing in the world.
You can either download your future rom to internal or external memory and using the custom recovery of choice flash it.
In actuality it's much much simpler than any HTC device.
