Annoying Conversion of SMS to MMS for Long messages - Galaxy Grand Duos i9082 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hi Guys!
I have this issue in messaging app that whenever I am sending a message that is more than 3 pages/message it automatically turns to MMS that is somewhat annoying specially when you need to type a message more than the allowed characters.
The thing is I am on Sir Balliboxer's Odex AMF7 Rom
Can someone help me on this issue I tried the creation mode on the settings, set it on free or restricted still nothing works, Go SMS don't work, then I don't like the Big SMS app.
Can someone help me on this? I'm sure I'm not the only one. Thanks in advance for those who will help me!

Kabayan,
I do a lot of texting so I am familiar. However it is the first time I heard about this problem. I don't(well almost don't) monitor the number of characters anymore as after 160 the message count automatically updates. How it becomes MMS on yours I cannot understand. could you explain further how it converts by itself to MMS? Perhaps there is a setting on the messaging app that you have accidentally ticked?
UPDATE: Apparently there is a 480 character limit set for SMS so after 480 you get converted and there is no solution but to break up your sms so as not to exceed 480 or 160 x 3.....

oh there are a lot of us here. others are just lurking.
You can put an notification when the mms mode is triggered. other than that just watch out when txt count goes to 4.

Since you guys have a galaxy device maybe your secmms.apk is similar to the gs3. Check out the T-Mobile gs3 android dev forum. S we have a whole thread on secmms.apk tweaks.
Also maybe you have a feature.xml if you do them check out our feature.xml tweaks. Both should be able to stop the converting to mms. You only have to do one but can do both.

It may be called that for your phone, for us it's simply feature.xml. Also if you visit our forum there are a couple threads explaining various tweaks you may do to that file and the changes that will be made.

I cannot find anything pertaining to SMS to MMS conversion on that link.

Before switching to Grand I used Galaxy 3 (GT-I5801). In that section Kyrillos had modified the stock apk to prevent conversion of SMS into MMS. He also increased the number of recipients for a SMS. Maybe it will be of some help

Apparently this has been unconfirmed, I'm not entirely sure it works as well but it's such an easy mod that its worth a try. If not then you might wanna try the secmms.apk mod thread. The mods in that thread work 100% no doubt. You can also try just pushing a modded gs3 mms.apk to your phones and see if it works without problems. Who knows it's worth a shot.

I've worked on this to as mine is limited to 140 Characters only.
I found this code:
<CscFeature_Message_MaxSmsByte>140</CscFeature_Message_MaxSmsByte>
I changed it to 480 (3 x 160; 160 is the standard), I was able to type a message 480 characters long and the phone did not convert. I was able to send the message but the recipient was not able to receive it. It is because the phone sent the whole chunk of message as 1 message. The phone should have divided it into parts of messages consisting of 160 characters and the receiving phone should handle the "stitching".
having no luck, I just increased the 140 default setting to 160 and that's all I can do. We have to find a way to make the phone process a multi-part SMS.

Hello All,
I was having the same issue with my Galaxy Grand, so I hope this will help you all:
Go to"Messaging".
Open SMS, tap "Menu button"
Open "Settings"
Scroll down and go to "Text message SMS settings.
Select "Input Mode"
Change it to "GSM alphabet"
Then return to Messaging and test it
Then you`re done.
Hope I help you!

[Q] Broken SMS longer than 160 char

If someone's already answered this, please point me to that specific thread with a valid solution relating to my issue as I could not find it for the past week.
My recently replaced Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 won't send text messages longer then 160 characters when rooted. I am familiar with rooting Samsung devices, but I will admit this is my first time rooting my GS3. Regular messages and picture messages send just fine but anything longer than 160 = Fail. I've tried CM10 and AOKP and always end up with the same issue. I've looked on CyanogenMod's website and found something relating to SMSC so I gave it a try (can't post link due to post restricitons). I've tried all 3 methods listed, including entering it in a HEX PDU format still with no success. All I keep getting is update error. If I refresh the SMSC I get "+7",145 (including the quotations).
Upon searching Google and XDA Forums some more with regards to SMSC, I mostly came across solutions that led to switching out the SIM card temporarily to another phone and trying again. I can't do this for obvious reasons. Other solutions involved trying to enter it in PDU format. I tried this numerous times ranging from "07917140140000F0" to "07917140140000F011" and other sorts specifically for Sprint and still have had no success.
Other methods I've tried to remedy this problem was using 3rd party text messaging apps such as Handcent. This proved unfruitful as well.
Thank you to anyone who can help me in advance. If you need more info, just ask and I will try to respond promptly.

I hate to sound picky but I honestly hate 3rd party messaging apps. I was hoping to keep it native since I find its simplicity and features to be a lot more appealing and useful. I also hate advertisements and offers almost as much as the next person so I do my best to avoid the slightest hint for a handout as best as I possibly can.
Thank you for the suggestion though, it does work, I just want to keep it simple instead of looking for a workaround.
No prob go SMS is my favorite so I recommend it to anyone

Ouch, still no solution? Guess I may have no choice but to go with GoSMS until there's a stable release of 4.1.2 :crying:

DUDE! If I could hug you through the screen, I would, so instead I just slapped my screen a high 5 that you should get whenever you read this. THANK YOU!
Your instructions were fairly clear to follow all the way up to the point of creating a flashable zip (I might've overworked my brain reading all night) so instead, I originally just replaced the modified Mms.apk into the ROM and it seemed to work fine after installing it, but after some issues I list later in this post, I decided to figure it out and give it a try. Though I understand what I did, it doesn't explain why I get the errors to begin with. You have honestly helped me more then enough so no need to dwell on that if you don't know.
I do have two minor issues and one major:
When I was sending some test text messages to myself, I realized a 2-part text would send the 1st text almost instantly and the 2nd part minutes later.
When sending a 3-part text, it sends the 2nd part 1st, the 3rd part about a minute later and finally the 1st part about 2 minutes later
I can't send MMS messages anymore but could only receive it.
In regards to MMS, I downloaded the Example.zip you had on your page. I extracted it and created the "app" and "framework" sub folders within the system folder then added the apks to their respected destinations. With the exception of adding some outputs for the ui_print, I generally left the updater-script file alone. Finally, I selected all 3 root folders within the Example folder (data, META-INF and system) right-clicked, selected WINRAR then add to archive. I changed the name to texts and selected ZIP as my archive format. Finally, I added the zip to my sd card along with CM10.0.0 and its compatible gapps. Once in recovery, I did a factory reset and flashed CM10, gapps and texts.zip in that order. Upon testing my messages, I encounter the issues listed previously listed above.
Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Feature.xml file question

So I was reading freeza's thread on how to add apps to multiwindow and it involves the feature.xml file under /system/csc
I'm not an expert on androids by far but I was reading that file and I want to know if I understand some things correctly. I saw a line that states the limit on videos and pictures for sending. Could i change that to send as large of a video that I want? I also saw a line that checks the area code before sending a text could I set that to false and send texts to numbers in my area without putting in my area code? I was hoping to find a line that determines the 160 character per page limit but couldn't, but do I have the right idea here? Is this some magical file?

[Q] Disable MMS Slideshow

Hello,
Whenever I get a picture sent to me via MMS, it shows it as a slideshow. This drives me crazy and I wish it didn't.

I found this thread for a Note2:

But I'm not sure how to apply that to my SGH-i747M
Please help!!!
I've read that some people just get a different texting app, but I'd rather just fix the stock one. Unless there are some other benefits that I don't know about.
Thanks!!!
Most of the rooted stock roms found in the development section have this fixed.
Is there any way to fix it on the stock ROM though? I'm rooted but don't have time to look at changing Roms right now but would just like to fix this one issue.
The best solution I've found is to ask the sender to just send the picture and not include any text. If they do this, I will come through as just a picture that you can pinch and zoom. This is a hack, but works and is better than nothing.
I guess I just figured that the Note2 and S3 are similar so the fix would be easy to apply here, but I guess not.

Yup. Just add it in the "Message" section. Actually anywhere is fine, but if you add it as the last line in the message section you will be able to easily find it again.

Two things I thought I'd share -
1) The guy who posted the link you gave also has a rom in the TMo Android Dev section - might be worth taking a peek at it as I'm sure the SecMms in it includes everything in that post.
2) Unless I screwed it up somehow (something that is very possible), in my experience (using TMo service) forcing emoji to be treated as sms prevents them from being sent at all (messages including them still send, the places w/ emojis are just blank though). If folks have figured a way around this, or followed that guide and did not encounter that issue, I would be very interested in learning more as I may have mucked it up somehow and would be interested in learning how to resolve the issue.

In Cyanogenmod v10.1 in the stock Messaging app there is a setting "Request a read report for each message you send". I've never used it and have no idea how it works but I thought I would mention it.

So if you're still looking for this feature then you'll want to find an SMS/MMS app that will do this for MMS messages because it probably can't be done for SMS.
In order to ensure the text is sent as MMS you would have to send an attachment. MMS also require a solid data connection.
