[Q] DHD Stuck on splash screen after trying two ROMs, S-ON, HTCDEV method used. - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I'm aware that this has probably been asked a few times before but I have done some reading and tried a few things but to no avail.
Here's what my phone says in hboot:
***UNLOCKED***
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT 2.00.0029
I followed the instructions on HTCDEV (with getting that token and stuff..), then I download Jellytime R11 and Android Revolution, dropped then onto my SD, opened Clockwork Recovery (version 2.5.1.2), wiped everything I should have, installed the zips and both times it hangs on the HTC splash screen.
I used EasyAceRootTool at one stage, where I did that flashing of a boot.img.
While installing in CWR I don't get any error messages, and with Revolution, I went through the GUI fine (where you choose which apps to install etc.)
It's just when I go to reboot, it hangs.
Not sure if it's relevant, but I'm on T-Mobile UK.
Thanks in advance for your help guys, I'd love to get this sorted, I've only just been given this phone.

Each time you flash a ROM, you need to flash the boot.img.

I think my problem is this.
When I wipe everything and install the ROM, I can't get back into HBOOT, I'm stuck in CWM, I go to Advanced -> Recovery Boot and it stays in CWM, I go to Go Back and it stays in CWM.. The only way I can get back to HBOOT (to get into fastboot) is to take the battery out, which I'm guessing then messes up the ROM I've just flashed.

I've just it in perfect order, so installed zip then flashed the boot.img and I'm still stuck on the splash screen. It's been ten minutes now.

What exact process are you using?

I've just done it!
I had an old version of CWM on my sdcard from a previous flash on a different phone. I thought it would have updated it (I'm sure it said it did..) but I just manually did so and then it had a different skin and I went through the process again and it worked.

Possibly Bricked Phone

I have been using a CM 7 RC0 nightly since it came out with no problems. I have been updating about once a week. I had a single nightly on for the last week and I hadn't updated it because everything was working fine. I had my phone charging at my desk and out of nowhere it rebooted. I wasn't using it when it rebooted. On reboot it got stuck on the HTC Incredible screen. It will not boot to recovery or boot to the OS. I can get to HBoot and flash various updates but the phone still won't load. What are my next steps? Is it bricked/broke?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Have you tried going into recovery from hboot?
Also, have you tried flashing the stock ROM from hboot?
I have. When I go to recovery from hboot it does the same thing. Hangs on the HTC Incredible screen.
Flashing the stock ROM went through the flashing process (showed a progress bar and went through the steps) and appeared to succeed but the phone still did the same thing: displayed the white HTC Incredible screen...indefinitely.
if the screen has anything on it, its not bricked. dont worry - there is a sticky on the forum that should be able to help you. just get into recovery (if you cant, then flash recovery file in hboot first) then flash a stock rom.
brick is when you damage the radio or cant even get anything on the screen. everything else (pretty much) can be solved.

try flashing hboot .92, then cwr 2.5.1.2 (i am sure that works for both slcd and amoled screens - not sure which screen you have), then flash the stock rom. if that does not work then it might be something hardware related that might require some other fix.
be careful about flashing new hboot. pls read the stickies at the top.
Okay, I can flash hboot .92, at least I think I can. It does some work and then prompts me to reboot. When I reboot it goes back to the white screen. How do I put Clockwork on there? Unrevoked won't connect to the phone and I can't get into recovery to flash anything. Is there instructions for installing Clockwork without Unrevoked?
Have you tried flashing an RUU?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I downloaded an RUU and it was an exe. How do I flash an RUU from hboot? I cannot get to recovery.
RUU
You actually run the RUU via your PC, it's installed like any other program. Hook your DINC up via usb and follow the on screen prompts.

[Q] Alpharev Recovery

I have recently S-Off my phone which after much reading was a 5 min job, simply upload a rooted stock and then run Alpharev; perfect. Once I rebooted I have also included the Alpharev recovery but I am not having great sucess with this and am worried about bricking.
When I flash a new ROM I clear the directories as usual and on one accasion Leedroid was flashed and once complete the only thing I could do was take the battery out, whilst on the old CWM it allowed me to reboot from the menu. Second time I tried to install insert coin and it simply said starting to flash and then nothing happened so after 5 minutes I took out the battery. Tried to flash ccwm 3.0.0.5 but CID is not recognised (Done via PB99zip or whatever the extension is). My question is can i flash roms by fake flashing cwm and then install the roms or will this brick the phone.
Any help from you chaps would be great, am I using Alphrev recovery incorrecty?
Thanks in advance
Here's an idea:
Since you went S-off, maybe you have changed your HBOOT aswell?
And are now trying to flash ROMs for the wrong HBOOT?
Also you could just flash another recovery, since you 're S-off now, it's easy, just one fastboot command needed. Look around on the forums for that.

[Q] my dhd only got bootloader menu

hello 2 all!
i´ve searched since 4 days but got no luck so far..
i was on IceColdSandwich 7.4 test7.1. i have had the latest radio and 4ext newest version as recovery..
then my phone freezed. i took out the battery and rebooted. the phone stucked at green htc logo. i rebooted again to restore my nandroid backup. full wipe, flash succesfull but no luck at boot. still the same.
now when i boot my phone and go to the bootloader menu, it shows this..
ace pvt eng s-off
hboot-0.85.2007 (pd9810000)
microp-0438
radio-26.14.04.28_m
emmc-boot
any try to flash a new recovery or something elase via fastboot goes wrong and my phone seems to be "dead"
someone here who can guide my through my problem?
if more info is needed, please post
You tried flashing a new recovery via adb? Your recovery is still working though right? I doubt you'll need to flash a new recovery then. Try running the superwipe function in 4ext and then restore the nandroid backup. Also, if you don't restore the backup and just flash a new ROM instead, does it boot?

i can´t do anything at all. only boot into bootloader and choose fastboot. but nothing happens if i choose recovery. then the phone reboots and stuck at htc logo. i guess my phone "is completely naked"..
even updating through original ruu stucked at 20% "waiting for bootloader" or "update booting"
you say you tried to flash recovery via fastboot. maybe pd98img would work...
Yes. There is a thread somewhere in the development forum which has a link to download the stock ROM in PD98IMG.zip form. Search in all threads with 'RUU' in their title. That's the only type of file you can flash in fastboot. Only stock ROMs and radios work that way. Download that file, put it in the root of your SD card, boot into bootloader and wait. It'll detect it itself and ask if you want to flash it. That should work. You'll be back to stock though and will have to root and s-off again.

Help me: cant boot to hboot

I tried to downgrade using the advaced hack it and now dhd is messed up.
It cant boot to hboot . When i tried to reboot it, it just stayed off for a few minutes and then it turned in and vibrate violently for 1-2 minute then it boots again to recovery or rom
What did you do to it? What version of Android did it ship with? What did AAHK say?
I think i pasted rom 1.32 to sdcard and it automatically flashed in hboot. At first boot it went like that.
I tried flashing eng hboot, radio s-off, and recovery in adb. Recovery works fine. I just tried to flash cm 10.1.
The reboot .... i am waiting

I have no idea what you're saying...you shouldn't need to flash any of that from adb yourself, AAHK does that. If recovery works fine just flash another ROM. If not, can you boot into hboot by rebooting holding volume down and power? If so what does it say? What file did you flash?

The situation now is
1) When ever i reboot, it reboots but: it would stay dead for about 5 min, then vibrate for 2 min, then boots ok
2) I can flash rom (because I could flash recovery - 4ext touch recovery), and rom runs ok.
I have just tried to reboot to bootloader again to see how it goes....
=====================
When I used the hack kit (newest on the site), I followed everything, it downloaded downgraded rom, and it said succesfull. I ran the kit again, it proceeded with the hack, and it said successful, but I could not get to rom/recovery after that (the splash screen slowly disappear and the phone went black (buttons were lighted).
then I took the sdcard, pasted the PD98IMG.zip (version 1.32), to the root folder. Rebooted to hboot and it flashed the rom ok.
Then the above problem occurred.
Sorry for my bad English, hope you can see my situation well.
=====================
Edit: Finally it could go to hboot (fastboot)
but like I said, it was "like dead" for about 5 minutes.
Hboot screen says
ACE PVT ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.85.2007 (PD9810000)
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26-03.02.26_M
eMMC-boot
Oct 11 2010,12:44:14
but this is Fastboot, when I choose "Bootloader", it stop responding

That is because you messed the bootloader by flashing a froyo RUU. That is not in the Hack Kit. As you said you put that in the sdcard yourself. Hack Kit has not included froyo ruu's for at least a year now...
Before flashing anything at all you have to fix that. Use this to do it:
http://tau.shadowchild.nl/attn1/?p=188
The hack kit does all the job by itself and gives you instructions when it needs you to interact.

[Q] Getting stuck need some guidance flashing rom

Hi all
DHD 2.35 GB
3.13.351.4
Used HTC hboot unlock
Used ace tool to root and flash cwm
So phone is hboot unlock rooted and have cwm.
Tried using hack kit to s-off but when it pushes the PD98IMG phone re boots into cwm.
Tried manually booting to hboot and it loads the PD98IMG but after loading says failed or wrong version.
Read somewhere that hack kit has to have locked hboot to work so tried the ace tool to re-lock hboot and that fails.
When it says phone will restart it restarts to cwm
Tried flashing a few roms as is using cwm (cm10.1, slimbean, viper)
cwm says the roms installed but either phone boots as normal stock 2.35 or hangs at htc screen
Luckily i did a full cwm backup so easy to restore if it doesnt boot.
IS THERE A METHOD OF FLASHING ROMS THAT DOESN'T NEED S-OFF?
IS THERE ANOTHER METHOD TO S-OFF
Any help greatly appreciated

It does not boot because you need to flash the custom rom boot.img in fastboot after flashing the rom in CWM.
Ok so this is what I did
In CWM factory reset, wipe cash, wipe dalviQ, wipe battery stats
CWM installed zip from card
chose cm-10.1-20130311-UNOFFICIAL-ace.zip
This completed in a couple of minutes no errors
back in hboot / fastboot
flashed boot.img from cm-10.1.... zip but get sig verify fail......
fastboot flash boot boot.img
sending boot 3824k
okay
writing boot
(bootloader) signature checking.....
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
finished
What an i doing wrong?
Cheers
Stu
You need to re-unlock your bootloader. And AAHK is retired and the server hosting the files it needs has been pulled.

hboot already shows as unlocked
i never relocked it
In 1st post you're mentioning "either boots to 2.3.5"....in the 2nd again missing system and data wipe.
Not 100% but I guess you at least need radio s-off for flashing ROMs.
If I were you, I'd rather not try.

If I helped, please press Thanks...

This is false. You can flash ROMs with S-On if you have an unlocked bootloader.
My mistake.
Stuuk, "the Bible" says: "the other way of gaining root is flashing custom ROM after unlocking bootloader."
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2168500
So, did you wipe the system and data after nandroid backup, and before flashing custom ROM?

Bananagronola was right
Even though hboot showed as unlocked it didnt act like it was.
I ran the htdev unlocker again then I was able to fastboot flash recovery 4ext (over cwm)
In the same session i was also able to fastboot flash a boot.img (which was failing previously)
So booted into 4ext recovery and flashed cm-10.1-20130311-UNOFFICIAL-ace and gapps again after wiping everything.
For good measure I fastboot flashed the boot.img again and hey presto everything works!!!
Well i say everything works however for some reason the touch screen seems a little unresponsive in this rom.
But now I know the procedure I'll be trying a few more roms.
Thanks for all the help
Stu
