[Q] Help with L35H - Sony Xperia ZL

Hello,
I recently tried to update my Xperia ZL L35H (purchased in China) to the latest 10.3.A.0.423 firmware. I chose the C6502 variant because it seemed that this was the same model with some regional variations. All worked well, until I tested the mobile data connection, which was non-existent. Considering that both L35H and C6502 both use HSPA, this incompatibility with the C6502 firmware was surprising. I even used the AOKP ROM for awhile and had no issues with data connectivity.
What's worse, I had my CWM backups on internal storage. My bad, I know. Updating to the 10.3.A.0.423 erased my internal storage, so, no more stock firmware backups.
I would be most grateful if some one could help me either:
*Help me find a L35H firmware, or
*Help me troubleshoot the data connection on the C6502 10.3.A.0.423 firmware.

L35h
Glad to see someone else has the L35h. I'm afraid I can't help you with your problem, but I was wondering if you were able to root it, and how?
I rooted mine with Bin4ry's script, but then made the mistake of upgrading, not knowing that it would remove the root. (I'm completely new to Android and had no idea that the phone would come with a bastardized version of Android that doesn't even allow a Google account to be on it, without rooting.) Now I'm on 10.1.1.A.1.253, but none of the rooting scripts will root it now.

I rooted the 253 using :
http://www.droidkube.com/how-to-root-sony-xperia-zl-and-install-cwm-recovery/
Then lost root after updating to 10.3.A.0.423. I rooted that using:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43288981

Thanks, I might have to do it this way ultimately. I'm afraid of destroying my phone completely, but maybe it's the only way I'll be able to do it.

Maybe you could help me out here. What 253 variant did you use? Does everything work on it? What shows for "Model Number" under "About Phone" in settings? Could you post a download link for me?

I got it to work. I'm currently using the C6503, but the C6502 might have worked as well.
The key in to go into Settings/Xperia and click on "Internet settings". Afetr a brief download, my 3G data was back!
Everything appears to be working fine! No more L35H!

Where did you get the 10.3.A.0.423 firmware? I've decided I'm going to use Flashtool and just go for it. Would be nice to say zaijian to L35h.

You have to register and log in to activate the download link on the xperiablog page. Both the C6503 and the C6502 worked for me. Supposedly, the C6503 adds LTE support, but I don't know if there's a hardware difference to reflect that. I've been using this firmmware for a week now, and it's been flawless.
Also, check out Doomlord's easy rooting toolkit (for root) and XZDualRecovery (for CWM and TWRP) here on XDA, both of which work flawlessly on this firmware as tested on my device.
Check out my post on this page if you're disappointed with the stock sound volume limitation.
And don't forget the "thanks" button if you appreciate my help

Thanks so much! Which country firmware did you use? I was wondering if I should go with Germany, Indonesia, or US.

I'd go with whichever one matches where you're at. I'd have to look it up to know for sure. Both the Indonesia and the MEA (Middle East?) ones worked on mine, and I'm in China. Some locations use the same bands, others don't. I'm no expert in how that works. I might be wrong here, but I think the Settings/Xperia/Internet Settings auto-patch takes care of that for you. My 3G (or any data connection) didn't work until I took care of that.

I'm in China as well, so I'll go with the Indonesia one too, especially since I know it worked for you. Thanks again for the help!

It worked! Took a while to figure out the drivers and stuff, but it flashed easily and now I have a non-bastardized, non-Chinese phone. Seems to run faster and smoother too. Great to say goodbye to the L35h and hello to the C6502!

Haven't noticed any problem like that. Or any real problems. Maybe the notification/SMS sounds are a bit wonky, but nothing that's really bothered me or is especially noticeable. Am still getting notices about how "this version of Android doesn't allow in-app payments" or something like that. I expected those to go away. But maybe it's just because I'm in China with a China Mobile SIM.

Hi Guys! I too brought sony xperia L35H from china....and would like to flash the MEA C6503 version. I installed the flash tool and made the FTF file ready. while just to make sure everything is alright i connected my phone and opened the flash tool. It says "device connected with USB debugging off", although i have enabled usb debugging in my phone. Do i have to install the adb as well or am i missing something. Any help is highly appreciated! Thanks

Chinese Galaxy Y, how do I change the operating system?

Hi everyone,
Have just purchased a new Galaxy Y here in China and restored to original factory settings however everything is in Chinese which isn't a problem as I can change the language to English however all the default Google Apps are missing and replaced with Chinese equivalents it seems so I'm unable to use them.
So... how can I restore it to a version of Android something functional for me? I'm on mac os x lion with vmware for any windows apps I need and am computer literate enough to attempt anything like flashing a device / updating a rom but have no idea where to start with this. Have read some docs on Odin but they made little sense at first because I don't quite know what steps I need to take in order to carry out this task. I've found various Roms but these are India, Netherlands, Greece versions, does anyone know of a UK version?
Any pointers would help greatly, thanks in advance!
Update: Just came across http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465800 so am reading through here however I'm not sure which ROM to go for, the European pack work with sim cards in Asia?
Rich
first thing that the initial setup offers after full reset, is to change the language. It's the button on the the right hand side of the screen. if you press the green android, it's too late. then you must navigate to language setup by memory.

I've changed the language but it's a custom Chinese rom as China bans everything google so I need to get it on a normal UK Android setup or something, maybe the European pack from the aforementioned link?
Current versions as follows:
PDA: S5360ZCKK2
PHONE: S5360ZCKK2
CSC: S5360ZHKK2

Thank you for this, am just looking at Docky's stock roms now. Seems like the phone isn't locked to any specific network as accepts both Hong Kong and UK sim cards at the moment. I'm a little confused about setting the CSC and provider/region stuff after flashing it, basically I'm in Asia for the next 10 months and will have various sim cards from different countries and want them all to work. Possible do you think? Or will I have to flash to country specific firmware/csc relative to the sim card I'm inserting?

Well, Im in Asia country too. I tried Docky's Custom ROM which is based on XX which is European firmware and my phone works together with the SIM provider and network. So, the CSC is basically the language supported by your phone (based on my experience). Thus, Im sure you can use European firmware when you are in Asia country

I think the simpliest way to solve this is to update its firmware via samsung kies, besides its the official update you can get and you'll be sure it'll be safe. Ive updated mine through this method and havent tried the ODIN thing. Good luck though

Hi,
I really appreciate all the posting which is done on this site, and it has helped me many times (as I often act as the 'family' technician who can fix things).
But this time, I inherited a bricked Vietnamese Galaxy Young. The issue I have is that event though I installed ODIN in its most recent release, the phone in DOWNLOAD mode is not recognized on the 2 computers I usually use on other Samsung phones.
Is there an Asian-specific driver which needs to be used?
Alas, the phone was backed up using the CWM backup, but it refuses to boot into CWM (just hangs at logo). The only mode it boots into is Downlaod mode. But it need to be recognized correctly before Odin can do anything
Thanks for suggestions

make sure samsung usb drivers are installed - use rear usb ports not front ones and you can try a different usb cable (there is no specific regional driver just a generic samsung usb driver)
once in download mode connect usb cable to pc
push vol up on phone to start connection (wait a 30 secs in case drivers start installing)
open odin 3.07
if it is connected it will say com then a number in a coloured box under com:id on the left hand side

Xperia PRO - no network with any SIM, radio brick ? Any fix possible ?

Hi guys,
I had an Xperia Pro updated to ICS 4.0.4 stock, everything was working ok, one morning at work I couldn't get any signal in any part of the building, removed SIM and placed in a different phone, it was getting some signal, back to Xperia Pro, no signal again and when picking manually one of the networks was giving an error message ( like ... network unavailable or check if SIM inserted ), tried activating - deactivating plane mode, still no change, at a certain moment it rebooted by itself, but still no change.
Went home, tried a different SIM, same thing, did a factory reset of the phone, still same error and won't join any network.
Thought, OK it's time to try a different ROM, maybe more luck.
So unlocked bootloader, flashed Cyanogenmod 7.2, install went OK and all, but still the same problem, it won't join any network with any SIM I put in.
What can I try next ? Anyone has any idea ?
Thanks for any suggestion or advice

Hmmm ... it was in my pocket while going to work, I later noticed the lack of network signal, but there wasn't any shock or whatever, just regular commute from home to office.
Additional Info: I've remember something that might be relevant: after the reboot in CM7.2 it kept asking for the SIM unlock PIN I think, and it didn't work with the PIN that I knew the SIM had, after a couple tries I clicked "reject" to avoid locking the SIM.
Not sure if it means the phone become locked ?! should I try to unlock it ? It was normally already unlocked before, not sure if it makes any sense what I'm imagining here ...

I used the Central Europe because the file has a slightly newer date.
Had problems with using Flashtool under Windows, probably some driver wasn't correctly installed as my computer was freezing every time I connected in flashmode. Fortunately I have a dual boot and it worked under Ubuntu.
But no luck, still no service after back to ICS.
But I found some other thread on the net that pointed to check mend, and guess what ... doing a report resulted in "Currently blocked - CheckMEND has a record of this item having been blocked by one or more cell phone networks"
Now ... wtf can I do next ?!

Tried a couple of them, either they say they can't do anything ( if I don't have a contract with them ), or one operator told me have no blockage or record of this IMEI.
So ... more and more confused and clueless ...
getting into the SIM Lock menu of the phone ( using the *#*#-whatever-#*#* combination ), every digit is 0, I've read that it means it's "hardlock" but not sure what exactly this means and especially how can it be unlocked ?!

GT-s7562i - Chinese version help

Hello
I bought this phone in China and was stupid enought to try the firmware update with odim using the version for a s7562. As you can imagine the phone did not work and I had to go back to the original firmware.
The problem is that none of the versions I found on internet works.
Well, they work more or less. The phone starts and can even receive calls. Even Kies is able to reconize and update the firmaware.
Problem is that the buttons dont work and the touch screen is erratic, making it impossible to effectively use the phone.
Is there any idea what the problem could be? Wrong version of firmware or something else? If the problem is the firmware, is there any chance that I can find the right one?
Thank you very much for your help and attention. See you!

Roms for AT&T V495?

Are there any working ROMs or even recovery for the G Pad F 8 (V495)?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
Not at this moment. We need more people to be interested in such.
Fortunately, there's a recovery for the V496 (T-Mobile variant).
We need testing for the v495.
Look here.. Make sure to back up your exisiting recovery. Then flash this. If it works, make sure to reply here or at the other thread. If not, still let us know.
In the event we ever get roms, you wont be able to flash anything for a specific device that isn't v496. Atleast until someone rebuilds the recovery for your device.
In any event. I would like you to contact me so that I can walk you through a dump of all of your devices partitions, except the personal ones.

I have this device for US Cellular. I would really love to install CM rom on it. From my understanding the two problems are the locked bootloader that prevent us from installing a rom, and also there being no ROMs that support our version.

Specifically, a locked bootloader also makes it either impossible or extremely difficult to have root, too, which of course is a prerequisite for installing anything custom.
Also to mention that you can root it with Kingroot but there is a good chance it will also brick it. I have v495 sitting here waiting for a proper KDZ.
I keep searching everyday hoping I see a KDZ pop up. Nothing as of yet. I just bought an nVidia K1 Shield to use in place of this thing for now. Maybe one day I will get it back working.
King root 4.6.2 will give you root on marshmallow but only till you reboot.. Would be happy to help out in the cause.

Just bought a new G8 AT&T LM-G820UM, G820UM10m. Best way forward?

Hi, I need some support.
Last week I bought a 'new ' G8 AT&T, unlocked phone, that will replace my beloved G7.
The G8 seems to work ok with my operator, here in Sweden.
It has Android 9, and the software version is G820UM10m.
I would like to get a newer android version and get rid of everything AT&T.
I have just read the guide "[Tutorial] Crossflash, Bypass OPID Mismatched Error", but not all the 64 pages.
My questions, before I begin my adventure:
Is this guide the most suitable for me, or are there newer better ways?
Which version of firmware is the best option for me, considering where I live, and my phones current state ? (From what I have read so far, LM-G820QM should be a good option.)
Which Android version is the best option for my phone? Should/Can I go for the latest version straight away?
Is the best source of firmwares https://lg-firmwares.com or where do you find get your firmwares from?
Thanks!

Lots of questions. The best version would be the most current version that has the support for the carriers in your area. Only you can decide that, sometimes we change which rom to use when we switch carriers. So, it would be best to find an 'open' version (QM) that also supports the needed bands for carrier.
And of course, the open versions have much less carrier specific 'bloatware'.
That guide is not only the best, it's the only So yes, that's what you follow. That site for firmware is good, there may be others, it's been a while for me. I'd suggest to do a full phone firmware backup before proceeding with anything. There are quite a few partitions you want a copy of, so rather than risk a mistake of forgetting one, just backup the entire device, completely.
then you can proceed without fear of being able to 'get back to original'. Good luck.
Thank you for your reply!
Good that it was the "one and only" guide
Last night I spent some hours trying to get things right.
I took a tiny step (since I didn't know better) and tried to replace my G820UM10m (AT&T, Android 9) with a G820QM20f version (US open Android 10) that I found.
Now I have don't have the AT&T bloatware anymore, but my phone says it has software version G820UM20f , and NOT G820QM20f .
I was hoping it would be QM, with as many bands as possible unlocked.
As it is right now it seems to be a bit "so so" with internet connection when I'm not on Wifi, so I need to solve that somehow before I can start using the phone for real.
(When I tried to install, it did go to a "fastboot" menu before I got it to "download mode". Maybe that wasn't so good..)
On the pages here there is a lot of information.. and I need to read up a bit more about it. And I might ask silly questions again
Thanks again!

You're welcome, no worries. First I'd say just because it went to fastboot before download mode, don't worry, that's nothing.
2nd, it's not uncommon for the 'info' page to be a bit off, it gets that info from different sources, and some of them don't get updated during this process. It's not uncommon for that info to be 'off'.
The best way to determine if you have the bands needed for your carrier is to install and app from playstore that tells you which bands you're connected to, one I remember is called 'lte discovery', but there are many to choose from.
You might want to consider traveling around a bit to see which bands are available and where, bands like t-mo 71 are towards the outer parts of the town I was in.
good luck, it's fun.

Thank you for taking some of the stress off my shoulders .
I will try the app and see if I can find out which bands that are in use here.
My plan now is to crossflash "G820QM40a...." that I just downloaded.
I haven't reached the "fun" yet, but when I get the hang of it I guess I can enjoy it more

Hi,
Nah.. Right now my mobile has "T-mobile" firmware-
It has tried to update, but fails without any failure message.
It might be that I am in Sweden, using a Swedish sim/operator.
I wouldn't draw any conclusions based on my situation

It fails. It can't read my current version, according to the error message.
I have crossflashed my mobile multiple times now, so I am not surprised that LG Bridge is confused.
