Does anyone have the Google Maps .apk from BEFORE they updated the layout? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

The new Maps is very buggy and missing a lot of features i use. (not talkin about Latitude. i don't use that)

I dont have it off hand, but just download any rom older than a few weeks and extract it from system/app. Just make sure the play store isnt set to auto update your apps though

i've been running liquid smooth and it didn't come with maps apk in the rom, I had always downloaded it from the play store...
I would really like the apk for maps as well

Go to team blackout's website. They have an inverted version.

Or just Google "Google maps apk" I'm sure an older version will show up.

I've got a pretty recent one. I'll try to remember to post it when I get home.
A lot of people have had several issues with this latest update. Google was forced to revert at least one change within a couple days of its release.

Here you go. Google Maps 6.14.3. Pulled from the latest T999V update released a week or so ago. Extract it first!

So simple...

yeah. that option isn't available on my phone.
my sister hated the new update, but the "uninstall updates" WAS available on her phone. wonder why it's not avail on my phone.
but anyways, thank you SO MUCH for the link!
most roms don't come with google based apps, they all use the "gapps"

Edit: found a newer version. i think this was the most recent version before the new layout

oh how beautiful the UI looks. thank god i have it back.

Fyi guys, someone around here said google released another update that fixed a lot of issues people had. Cant remember who or where, but figured I'd mention it.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium

I uninstalled it completely ..and refused the update. The new update was very buggy and seem to constantly send data back . But just the fact that a force feed us this version pissed me off . One of there main things Google did was removing Latitude (as of Aug. 1st ) . Which I used a lot to keep track of my kids and family, the technology is still there but can only be used on Google Hangout (very buggy). But who really knows why it is they do this things like this...Just buggy.

I have just reverted it on the desktop as well, such a relieve to have the old stuff back.... at least while they let us.
I came looking here to revert the phone apk (blackout is the easy way and awesome). Google messed up sooo bad on this one. Like I search for a chain, and it shows me them one at a time with me having to swipe through them (in seemingly random order as some are up to 40mi away sandwiched in between others that are 2-4mi away, and the one that is only 0.7mi away is 10 swipes away). The old maps just shows you a map with YOU in the center and pins for the 10 results closest to you. When I am "on-the-go" why would I want to instead have the map of the first result you choose at random, which may or may not include my location, and then have to swipe through results while I mentally figure out where each one is in relation to me??? It is just ludicrous! The new maps may be great for casual browsing at home, but I use maps for location-based productivity, there are plenty of other apps for Where should I go / eat / buy. Make the new Maps for tablets and leave my phone and desktop Maps alone (or make them more productive, not less!!!)
Other examples of failure:
- I tell it to navigate somewhere and it shows me a full screen route-list, even if there is only one. Then, after I select that route I want, it shows me that route and I have to click Go before the navigation actually begins. The old version: I instantly get navigation and can choose alternate routes if I want. The new version is dangerous to use while driving. The old one is 100% hands free. WTF Google?
- You used to be able to use Google Now to say "Map of ..." or "Navigate to ..." which does not work correctly anymore.

Have you reported all of this to google?

Yes, through multiple different PCs/Apps. I just did a survey they sent to me for switching from New to Old on Desktop.

Cool, hopefully enough people will complain and they will fix it.

I'd like to see that, but I doubt it. Likely they'll look at us and ask why we havn't updated our phones.
Really wanted to thank the folks on here who pulled the APK, Maps 7 just doesn't work at all on my EVO 3D, it flickers, the prompts are scrambled, it can only function in landscape mode... this is on top of the, slower, feature hidden, beauty update nonsense. So thanks again.
Dogan
I've played beta games with less bugs than this ****e.

I have the old Maps, and I've tried multiple copies of Google Now, but still when I say "Navigate to Target" it shows me Google results for that search instead of opening Navigation and auto routing to the nearest Target.
I really, really miss "Map of [...]" and "Navigate to [...]". I want to be able to do this from google now which is always one button away, not have to open the map program first, click search, then click mic, then say "Target", then click the nearest one, then click navigate. (at least it is not 4 more steps anymore like it was with the new maps)
Please, can someone figure out how to get this simple command working as it used to?
-------------------
Edit: Nevermind I guess... mine just started working again. I complained here and in one other thread, then I tried "Navigate to Texas" as I was going to post a screen shot of how that same search that worked for another didn't work for me, and to my surprise it worked. Now it is working every time just how it used to. Very strange. I swear it was not working for me from like 2 months ago until 30min ago. I'm just glad it is back.

But 3.1.5 has improved on speed.

Delete data and cache and all apps installed from the market will appear in the list. I also do the same when my apps list loads forever and hangs, after that it's faster for some time. This new market is kinda poorly optimized, hope they release a new version to be as fast as the old skool market.
In my opinion the android market app sucks in any of his versions and with any rom, stock or mod.
It's often slow, sometimes i see an update available for an app but when i click on it there is no update button. When perform a search 80% times it find only porno-nudegirls-related things, and also not so related...
I think google really should have to put a lot more attention and start developing an app that is fast and functional and not the crap we have now... And maybe have more respect for all the serious developers here who post their applications in the market and see theirs accounts gone for no reason as appened to Leo...

Seems to work perfectly for the majority of people. I suggest you may have issues with your device if you find it slow. Also, if you keep finding "porno-nudegirls-related things" then I suggest you stop searching for them
In summary, it works perfectly for me. My only beef would be that it just doesn't have a download button, rather than telling you an app is not compatible.
Also, the Honeycomb Market is sooooo much better, so ICS will clearly have a better version as well.
Wow amazing. It's blazing fast. Worth a shot.
I also got the problem that installed apps are missing in the market(Facebook too and about 20 others). Tried clearing data and cache + reboot didnt help.

Yes ... often there is an update available for an app but when i click on it there is no update button
And nearly every time there actually is an update button present ... update will hang due to some kind of connection error (never start downloading app)
Removing new Market update or (fast) rebooting phone solves this problem until new Market update re-install itself again.
My phone NOT faulty ... new Market or maybe something behind the walls of Goggle is buggy ...
Anybody found a prober solution working on not rooted phone
Hating the new search, If say, 5000 results are found, it'l only show about 200-300, wtf?

Installing purchased apps in Play store

I apologise if this is old news, but I just discovered it. I don't know about others, but installing all my old apps from the Play store is a major PITA. I scroll down, select the app to install, install, go back, and .. the list is back at the top and has to load every single item again and make me scroll down to find where I was in the list. The air is blue after doing this twenty times with a hundred to go! (where is my :grrr: smiley?)
Accidentally I turned the Nexus on its side, and found the landscape mode. The list does not go away when you select an item. Peace is restored. My meds cost goes down dramatically.
Like I said, sorry if this is old news, but if it prevents just one person going through what I was going through, it is worth me posting

I used a bit of a workround
I installed App Back Up & Restore on my TF101 and backed up the Apps. The programme creates a specifc folder on the device called (iirc) App_Backup_Restore
I then installed the App on the my N7 and ran a backup. That created the same folder on the N7 but without 'my' apps. I then used my PC as a go-between to transfer the TF101 apps to the relevant folder of the N7. I then 'restored' the Apps I wanted the program
Worked a treat and avoided the need to hunt round Play Store to find the ones I wanted

Appbrain Market app also allows you to install all previously installed apps (if you had to reset your device) or that you have on another device.
Titanium backup is the gold standard. The only use for the play store is to load TB.

Google Now working on T Mobile GS3

Full credit goes to author of the below thread. Got Google Now working 99% on my stock rooted Tmobile GS3. What is the 1% not working? Once you launch the app if you dont perform any search, back button does not exit the app. So need to close it from task manager. Also sometimes after you enter the search text, enter key does not initaite the search, so hit menu -> refresh. Other than that the cards, talk back, quick and accurate response, voice search etc works just fine.

Try to reinstall it beacuse on my device I am able to exit Google Now with the back button. I am rooted running FreeGSM R5, Faux Kernel and High Def In Color theme.

y sir, atleast with me it did.
Do the cards take a while to show up because I've had it installed for a few hours but still don't get the weather card. I'm using the mikey m6. Everything else works.
t-mobile sgs3 stock rom/rooted
Stupid question but have you asked for the weather ? Because that was the first thing I asked and started getting cards. Also when in the app hit menu and go into settings I beleive that there are more options.
I have been using it for the last 2 days and it's such a gimmick. It doesn't give me the cards that I am expecting and need and most of the time I do a voice search instead of a card I get thrown to Google even tho I have a card set up for let's say my favorite sport team. Kind of wack.

How do I remove it? Google Now is one of those products that's probably gonna follow Google listen etc after a few years...
See u guys are getting the wrong impression of google now it does not work right with stock roms and has a phony voice. It was awesome on my gnex and was super quick and cards showed up when i needed. It finally is working great on cm 10 ....p.s. the inverted google now looks sick
Google Now will keep me from flashing to JB if the only thing that I can do with the double tap home function brings up Voice Dialer instead of Voice Search. Only fix is deleting the entire Google Search apk, which nullifies any benefit Google Now brought to the table. Sad, I actually liked the app...
Anyone having issues?
Hey guys. I was able to put Google now on my rooted SGH-T999 and it works wonderfully. I'm running CM9 and I can't wait to see what this can do. I was experiencing one issue though. Sometimes, after I search, I will click on one of the websites it shows me and the link won't open. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Or any other issues with Google Now? Thanks guys!
The only issue i have is that if your launch Google now and don't search anything, pressing the back button won't exit the app. Need to use menu > refresh. Not a big annoyance since most times the app is used to search something. I wish location services would work just using gps, but you need to enable cellular triangulation too for that. I feel like triangulation will drain battery unnecessarily.

You're joking right? Something as small as this pushing people away from the only real option as far as mobile OSs go? There's almost no going over to iOS from android and WM is still a bit of a joke. It's not even that big of a deal. All it is is an option for developers to integrate into their apps for people to sign into other stuff using their G+ account/profile/whatever you want to call it.

While I agree for the most part I prefer these generic sign ins for things like forums or 9gag where there is no private info to be gained from getting into it and having a dozen logins and passwords for sights like these is bit unnecessary. In theory I can understand the idea for sights where purchases are made as well since you are logging on to the same account for everything there aren't dozens of places that have a credit card on file. However then you get into the one login problem and other security issues as well.

It's there now.
Word of advice, stop trying to live in the past, soon you won't have a choice as the Maps app is likely to update itself forcing you to accept it.

While that is true, we are all certainly allowed to enjoy the increased functionality of the old version for as long as possible without assault from the blindly allegiant...

At the moment Google + doesn't support location sharing on iOS and all my friends are using iPhones (so did I until 3 weeks ago)
so my only option is using old maps to see my friends.
New Google maps does stink.

Harsh but true.
I like the new Maps, does what I need it to as I have a sat nav (I do work for a sat nav company so no excuses not to have one!)

Personally I frigging LOVE it.
It's a huge improvement in my humble opinion.
Can you tell me what you hate about it?
Just curious.

Specifically?
It's not uncommon for app features to be deprecated over time. The functionality is usually replicated elsewhere.
some nice features are missing^^
scale bar, measure feature
so, in my opinion v6 beats v7

The problem is that 7.x is a piece of sh!t. When using the navigation function you can't get back to the destination if you take a call or do anything else.
Until they provide an updated version that works correct I will stick with 6.x...

What a refreshing view...... you have not considered what happens when 6.x automatically updates to 7.x without your consent? It will happen soon enough and it won't matter that you try to roll back to 6.x it will still update.
I am not saying that 7.x is perfect, it is far from it, I am just saying we need to stop living in the past because soon we won't have a choice but to use 7.x
When navigating I get force closes when I back out and go back into the app via drawer.
Also, it's kind of annoying I have to manually choose my From Location manually. Otherwise it is pretty and locks on faster than the last.

Mine auto updated the other day (because I had that setting on.) and was attempting to use it and only then do I find out that with billions of dollars and thousands of programers google is still capable of releasing an update to an app that doesn't work.
Please forgive the rant but when you get stuck and nearly get in an accident because your trying use the damn program that half the world uses for navigation only to find out that the maker screwed up its more than a little frustrating...

I'm finding trying to type in a destination is a frustrating and miserable experience. Sometimes after entering a destination, it takes me back to the same screen and I have to press the destination again before it actually goes to navigation mode. Sometimes if I say speak "Target" it will just direct me to Target 20 miles away without giving me an option to select from a list. Sometimes it fills in my current location, sometimes not.
It looks pretty, but any time Google updates their aesthetics, they go backwards in functionality. I'm sticking with Waze until it either gets absorbed into Google Maps, or Maps cleans up its act.
